26 Pixy, 4GB ($190) or 8GB ($230)? 4GB seems a bit light to me. My use case is the web surfing, usual media suspects, email stuff, OneDrive stuff (the SD card is bonus for that). Toss on top of everything the Microsoft Launcher.

I have been using my Surface Go 2 for years and it has been flat out great (it lives in the glove box of the car) for stuff but the battery is getting suspect hence my looking around for another glove box box.

8GB is a good idea if you're expecting to use it regularly. I went for the 4GB model because I already have a small (8") tablet for anything demanding - and also because only the 4GB model is currently discounted here in Australia.

4GB will probably work fine but you'll find tabs needing to reload themselves, things like that.

32 Speaking of Africans, the Minnesota Somalis have been looting the place for years via the scamtastic Feeding Our Future non-profit. This NP was supposed to provide meals to kids and such. Instead the Somalis put together a kickback and fake invoice fraud that ran into millions of dollars. This fraud included shipping money out of the country and for extra credit fraudulent immigration schemes using the one weird Omar Ilhan "I married my brother" trick.

48 Tech adjacent topic. For years I only used full-frame sensor cameras instead of the smaller APS-C sensor cameras because the lens support was excellent. Over the last 5 to 10 years the APS-C lens support has grown dramatically at prices points that are rock bottom for remarkably good to flat out world class quality.

So I took the plunge and picked up a Sony a6400 and a few prime lenses and a telephoto. Yeah, they are a thing. The camera body is about the size of a post card in area and the lenses are about 2.50" dia x 3.00" len and weigh nothing.

The primes are a Samyang 12mm f2.0 ($250), Viltrox 23mm f1.4 ($210), and a Sigma 53mm f1.4 ($460). They are ridiculously excellent; my comparison here is my Canon L glass which are world class. Multiply the focal length by 1.5 to get what these are in full frame terms.

Using my examples these become 18mm, 35mm, 85mm. I use a 2x multiplier between lenses, anything less tends to be a bit granular though I will eventually pick up a 33mm (50mm) at some point.

Summary: If you want a compact camera kit these Sony boxes and E-mount lenses have hit prime time. The support for Nikon and Canon decidedly less robust.

What some perhaps didn’t know was that on the Missouri, everyone not in the audience or participating was ready to go right back to war. All the guns were manned and everything was set to go right back into action had the Japanese instead did some funny business aboard ship.

I learned that touring the Big Mo. There’s something about standing at the spot where the surrender took place, and looking ahead to the Arizona Memorial…

58 Evening y morning to all the AoSHQ satellites on this Sunday, the first of September. Everybody sleep enough? Mostly, not much, not at all? Check one.

I'm awake (for certain values of "awake"), having some coffee, and about to feed the furry thuglets. Both slept on the bed with me at least part of the night; when I awoke about 2:30, they were sprawled near me.

Wild dreams last night, including one about trying to drive in the dark the wrong way up a wide street divided by an open drainage canal, and another about nurses in a hospital or clinic asking continually if they could test me for things I'd never heard of. One woman, who was more of a pharma company rep than a nurse, was willing to pay me $500 to take a vaccine. I refused, saying, "If they are willing to shell out that much, how much are they making on the deal???"

I'm considering converting my older (2020) PC laptop to Linux. Maybe leave Windows in a partition of its own, and install Linux in the other. I know I need to download the "distro" of Linux to a flash drive. How long does the entire process take? And does the installation process give you the option to install Linux in its own partition?

A few observations on anti-Israel ferment in the West: ...
4. Anti-Israel activities absolutely reflect an erosion of Western values. A small democracy is waging a just defensive war against a literal terror army with eliminationist aims, and it is the democracy that is reviled among Western youth and "liberal" elites. Indeed, of all the "causes" on earth, this is the one that has coalesced into a transnational mass movement, replete with its own religious like doctrine, iconography, and catechisms. All of this is less a reflection of Israel's behavior than a mirror evidencing a very deep societal malaise, indeed, a kind of self-hatred. This explains how not 25 years after 9/11, an Israel hating socialist would be the leading mayoral candidate in a metropolis that is the global center of capitalism and the jewel of the crown of the Jewish diaspora.

157 Charles Gasparino has a good column in the NY Post about people realizing that it looks like Mamdani will win. Getting into a scuffle would not have gotten them anything. Instead the entire human species got to see that they're normal and she's a cow, and they got loaded up with swag from both teams. I’d go the TN route, especially if you’re not found of the heat in Tejas.

East Tennessee near the mountains has pretty decent weather, rarely hurricanes reach that far inland, occasional tornadoes but those are as rare as earthquakes. And snow in the winter is a good possibility.

But its lbeauty can make up for any drawbacks.

If I answered you last time, my answer was, and remains: Linux Mint. The project is headed by Clement "Clem" Lefebvre, who has remained focused on stability and new features that make sense. There's been a very careful avoidance of nonsense both in the software, and in the guidance of the project.

Linux Mint 22.2 ("Zara") just came out. It's a long term support version.

Features Page:

See the end about the LTS (Long Term Support). It will give you a good feel for how this group does things.

Myself, I've been using Linux Mint for years in Virtualbox for all of my web browsing (Firefox) and email (Thunderbird) and it's been very solid. I have several other machines running Linux Mint as the native OS for various tasks. (I always go for the Cinnamon desktop and turn effects 'off'.)

Just asked one of the two family members I converted their 'daily driver' (at home) machine solely to Linux Mint about how they feel about it versus Windows:

- Linux Mint is way faster to boot and to update.
- Linux Mint doesn't get in my way (Stop 'helping' me Microsoft!)

246 @61/Wolfus Aurelius: (1 of 2) "I'm considering converting my older (2020) PC laptop to Linux. Maybe leave Windows in a partition of its own, and install Linux in the other. I know I need to download the "distro" of Linux to a flash drive. How long does the entire process take? And does the installation process give you the option to install Linux in its own partition?

For that matter, how much disk space does Linux need?
"

1. Disk space: I recommend 30 Gb for the operating system (the / partition). Whatever you need for all your files in a separate partition mounted at /home. The 30 Gb gives you enough head room to keep two or three versions of the kernel installed (so you have a fallback if a new kernel install does something really unexpected, which is extremely rare.)

2. Separate Partitions: Yes, Linux installs in its own partition(s).

I strongly encourage / and /home be kept as separate partitions.

3. Time: More required if you're doing dual boot as there's several things you want/need to do to.
Here, watch this, I bookmarked this and kept it for people asking about how to set up a dual boot machine. This guy is thorough:

----------
I'm not convinced NYC "voters" are making the choice here. Given how corrupt NYC elections are I assume if the Democrats want the Muslim commie to be mayor, he'll be mayor. If they don't, he will not prevail.

The hype seems.... manufactured. Other than AOC who's retarded, are there any politicos from NYC behind this guy? Or politicos from NY? I know a few from other states have endorsed, but they're retarded too.

Who do you think is pushing it in NYC? Mandami is getting a lot of national support for his run.

Whatever the hard left wants to call themselves these days their ultimate goal is communism. Mandami isn't the first to push for government run grocery stores in the US. And you don't have to look beyond Karen Bass in LA or Brandon Johnson in Chicago. Hell, Bass was an open supporter of Castro in Cuba and was an evangelist for communism in the US.

Further to time required: Most of it will be reading/watching that video, and doing the prepatory and planning. The downloads and flashing of the stick should be easily done in 10 minutes if you have a fast connection.

The prep work on windows, I'd devote 30 minutes to it. Take your time, don't miss anything.

The installation itself of Linux Mint? About 30 minutes, maybe less.

Oh, there is one thing that will take significant time and you absolutely should do it the night before you decide to actually do the upgrade:

Back up your existing windows drive (all of it) to an external hard drive. You're looking for something that can image the entire drive, and restore it exactly as it was. Ensure you turn on the "Compare the backup to the original" option. It takes longer. You absolutely want to do this!

"He who laughs last usually had a backup."
"Better to have and not need, than need and not have."

My advice on this is to take your time, plan well, cover your backside with a backup, and then patiently and carefully follow the steps as shown in that video I linked in the previous comment (1 of 2).

Those are two very different questions.

Red Hat Enterprise, Debian and Ubuntu LTS are rock solid for enterprise and server environment, but for different reasons:

Red Hat has best support, Debian is most stable with longer release cycles, Ubuntu has much wider hardware support so works great for developers and mixed use.

For useability, get a Mac.

Colorado Parks & Wildlife personnel shot a wolf following a series of brutal livestock attacks from mid-July through mid-August. One attack left three sheep dead, suggesting the wolf was not killing merely for food. CPW was unable to locate the elusive wolf or its body after shooting it, so it has not been confirmed dead.
This particular wolf was born in the wild to the infamous Copper Creek gang but had never been fitted with a GPS collar.

But he is revisiting it. He is demanding that the drug companies produce all of their testing data. I think Kennedy and his team are in that camp because they were all saying so during the lockdowns and forced vaccinations.

281 Re: that baseball

The rule is clear: a ball hit into the stands is literally up for grabs. The person who manages to secure it, gets to keep it. There are no claims as to who was sitting where when the ball landed. Possession is everything, as in 'I am holding the ball, ergo, it is my ball.'

It's like Shotgun. The 1st person to call Shotgun while in sight of the car, is the Shotgun. There can be no debate.

Finally, let us not ignore the role that 'Finders keepers losers weepers' plays in these type situations.
