Saturday Night "Club ONT" September 13, 2025 [The 3 Ds]

Live Music 9-13.jpg

Blurry picture, but that's the charm of live music in small venue - one of life's perfections. You're there for the music, moment(s), and memories not the social media likes. Up front, easy peasy - if that's your thing. Smaller crowd - room energy. No Jumbotrons - well...there is that one bartender.

What are your all timers for listening to live music in small venues? Hit the comments.

Welcome to Club ONT! A collaboration the 3D's - The Disco, The Doggo, and The Dino. Don't worry, membership is free. All acting responsibly must relay their reasoning to the Horde through interpretive dance.

*****

More live music - The Disco was listening to cover bands on the high seas a week or so ago and saw the dandy Gibson guitar below which would be a fine addition to his or any collection.

Googly eyed Disco.jpg

[Disco says: This guitar really caught my eye in the way the light hit the blend of black and brown. This was at a small venue on an NCL ship called "Syd Norman's Pour House". Syd Norman is a made up name with a made up history. Kitschy but fun. The band that was playing was very talented. There was a bit of over-produced schtick between the songs, but that's expected on a cruise ship.
That particular guitar may be available for purchase somewhere, but the one that I really, really want is much harder to find. Read on.]

The Beato Blue Gibson

The YouTube guitar giant's new signature model sports a lightweight mahogany body (just 7.2 pounds), and a custom TV Blue Mist finish

Rick Beato has been linked on these pages many times. His page is a rabbit hole of music greatness that can keep you informed and entertained for countless hours. Check it out!

Saturday Night Jokes and Other Funnies

A guy goes on vacation to a tropical island. As soon as he gets off the plane, he hears drums. He thinks, "Wow, this is cool." He goes to the beach, hears drums. he eats lunch, hears drums. He tries to go to sleep, hears drums.

This goes on for several days and nights. It's driving him nuts!

He goes down to the front desk and asks, "Hey, what's with these drums? Do they ever stop? I cannot get any sleep.

The hotel staff replies, "No! Drums must never stop. Very, very bad if drums stop.

"Why?"

"When the drums stop, the bass solo begins."

*****
How do you catch a drummer? Lay down a snare. What’s the best way to confuse a drummer? Put sheet music in front of him.

Drink of the Night

Playing card drinks - continuing the theme

Keeping with the Theme of the Week

Not linking a big list - the Horde has their favorite haunts of live music. One person band in Florida, local watering hole, hard cores doing micro on macro level. What say you?

If you're into anarchy, off color hair, and youthful debauchery, Club Kafe 44 in Stockholm may be your bag.

AoSHQ Master Commenter Miklos recommended Caveau de la Huchette. And as typical, friend Miklos did not disappoint. Paris Jazz Club of awesomeness.

*****

Club ONT False Advertising

Yes! Beerometer. How many cases of beer per line, per shift. Line 3 is kicking ass.

Beerometer.jpg

I am disappoint. Closer look shows they are canning energy drinks, not beer.

*****

Club ONT History

Any ever tried pulque? No, morons...not pulling your pulque - the drink.

Drink fast. College flashbacks - sipping is discouraged.

One of the reasons pulque is relatively overlooked compared to other fermented beverages, such as kombucha (originating in ancient China) and kefir (hailing from the North Caucasus), is its exceedingly brief shelf life. Naturally fermented in an enclosed container over 12 to 24 hours, it reaches an alcohol concentration comparable to beer – roughly 4 percent to 6 percent – then rapidly spoils over the next 24 to 36 hours.

Been a tough week. Club ONT has a heavy heart but clear eyes. Great to have the Moron Horde virtually in one place to connect with each other. You are not alone. We're all collectively struggling but in our own ways. Prayers all around. Having said that, the table in the corner is still wobbly. The bartender has matchbooks if needed.

Question for the Horde: If an asshoe gets fired for posting a heartless, disgusting remark on their social media accounts, why do they then post another one crying that they were held accountable?

Piper's here. Great.

Since I watched a lot of Disney and Nick shows in the past when they wouldn't piss me off, I still occasionally check in on my favourite actresses once in a while.

I think of you because one trend I've seen is the girls going to prom or red carpet ceremonies in very pretty dresses and wearing running shoes.

LOL. That always makes me think of you.

I'm a fan of rap music. Run DMC and Aerosmith's Walk This Way is a fantastic song - Run DMC made it even better than it already was. Biggie's Ready To Die is one of the greatest albums ever made, period. Run DMC's debut album is groundbreaking and amazing. Same with Beastie Boys. I liked disco when every one of my friends hated it back when I was in HS at its heyday, and I have no regrets about that either. Every music era has its classics.

That is awesome.

Back in about 1982, 1983, my boss at college said, hey, my church is about to toss a set of Leslie speakers into the trash. Can you help me take it away before they do?

Absolutely. But he has to find a truck first, and can’t get one until the next night. By then the church has decided it’s no longer available for trashing.

I did snag a Terak from the computer department a few months later. Basically a minicomputer in the form of a desktop. Probably cost them tens of thousands of dollars each when they bought them. They really were pretty much worthless at that point, but a friend of mine wanted one.

179 David Bromberg at the Top Hat in Missoula. Either that or maybe it was at Luke’s. Also Buddy Guy and Junior Wells.

The Central. I remember the name but little else. Drank a lot of beer there. Nurse, I was the ruggedly handsome GI, you probably remember me. You always looked great. I recall $7 got cover to a whole bunch of bars around it. It was a cool time to be in Seattle. A little part of me died when Rainier Beer went bye-bye.

I thought it was cool a corner of the brewery sort of stuck right along the I5. The Army actually took us on a sponsored tour as part of our inprocessing. Still scratching my head on that. They had a tasting room for samples.

It was a great rant. He's 100% correct, and the knuckleheads at the PBS NewsHour (Brooks and Capehart) should see every second of what Sean had to say. One of his finest moments.

That said, I do like Mark and Dan quite a bit. Dan is a Dem through and through, but he's not afraid to call his own side out on a lot of their stupid stuff - which is better than every single Dem that shows up on TV. Mark was in the hierarchy of news programs before he got unceremoniously defenestrated, and he was steeped in the insider network (Heilemann was his writing partner) during that time. You can see him working all this stuff out in real-time on 2-Way. They're a must-watch.

That's generally true. The theory of libel/defamation is that it causes harm to a person's reputation, etc, which has a cost. Once the person is dead, well, there can be no such damage -- he's dead, Jim.

However, the trick there is if the defamation does extend harm to living people or business entities associated with the deceased. That's a subtle, tricky thing, but it can apply.

It was pushed during the lead-up to the Spanish American war as part of the Hearst papers' drive to either liberate Cuba through revolution or by involving the US military directly in conflict with the Spanish Empire.

Remember, the Maine was an initiating incident because the US sentiment was looking for an inciting incident.

265 Rum, bourbon, rye - all on the menu.

I find FdC 12-year good though a bit woody and sharp, but an excellent example of a Spanish-style column still rum. I'd like to try the 18-yr. Usually I tend towards English-style, mostly Barbados, often a mix of pot and column still. Jamaican generally too funky for me, Guyana can have a bit of funk but not too much.

Only time I mix is with so-darker rums, with ginger beer and a bit of lime. Only when it's hot. Hamilton 86 is perfect for this - also sippable actually (to me a Guyana-type profile to it).

Have a Haitian rum I need to open. Wild stuff from there. Usually wild yeast fermentation, out in sheds in the cane fields.

267 200 There is more to the trans thing, possibly an Antifa plot, a conspiracy. From the NY Post: "A neighbor claimed two weeks ago several people, driving cars with out of state plates, were seen going in and out. “They did not give off a good vibe,” the neighbor said." So many to hang.

Posted by: runner at September 13, 2025 11:07 PM (g47mK)

Most of the neighbors interviewed are as clueless as we are. "They were quiet" except for one "who played music loud." The only one I trusted was an 11yr old kid looking for odd jobs. Bucky (how I refer to the killer as I never give their names fame) answered the door..."Kept looking behind him. Nervous."

I doubt antifa or consipiracy.

There was a group of gamers from HS. They became liberal trans wackos online. Covid enters the chatroom of demonic liberals.

Bucky started his grand scholarship and lasted one semester. That tells me he did not fit in. It scared him. Hell, I don't know. But it is rather pathetic if you made a 34 out of 36 on an ACT score and can't fit in.

So he left and roomed with one guy (one left a year ago). Furry remained, his "parntner"is male wanting to be female. I am not sure how far in the process of transmutation.

276 In keeping to one of the ONT themes of music in small venues:

1) Kenny Loggins in a small university venue. Very nice.

2) Aerosmith in a very small venue of a small college. Blew out eardrums and my brother and I heard Tyler screaming from the parking lot.

The other concerts I went to in my supermodel days were in huge concert venues and totally worth it if you were on the 5th row and standing on chairs (Jethro Tull and ZZ Top).

I had a blast. One concert I was apparently pretty wasted for Eric Clapton. My husband said it was not that great and I don't remember but I had fun.

He is an engineer by profession and a very good guitarist (blues) by hobby. He loves Steve Beato.

The most recent concert we attended on a date was to see the lovely and ethereal Alison Krauss and Union Station in an open concert of 3k people. We had a fantastic picnic and a night to remember always. Her voice is the same voice my brother introduced me to 20yrs ago. Wonderful time.

284 The greatest "small" venue in the world: the Village Vanguard. 285 Best band I ever saw in small venues it's highly unlikely you ever heard of them. The Wigs out of Milwaukee in the early 80s. Hard power pop, sort of punkish 1965 Beatles with a Cheap Trick vibe. There's an album out there of their original songs but they were hoping for commercial success so it's not recorded as hard as they played live. A few years ago they released a CD of a live radio broadcast and I immediately bought it and yes, they were as good live as I remembered.

Posted by: azjaeger at September 13, 2025 11:47 PM (3/XaG)

286 Best live music in a small venue. Hmmm. There was a place on the wharf, kind of a dive but not raunchy. They offered live music and it could be anything from small combo jazz, traditional folk music, and sea shanties. Good place to hear all the voices and instruments and to sing along. One time they had Buddy Rich and his band. He was in town for the Jazz Festival. Yeah, it was loud in that small space but it was awesome to be able to sit ten feet from Buddy.

The other was listening to the Minstrels of Mayhem in a small, maybe 100 seat, auditorium. They did Renaissance music and traditional ballads but with some comedy thrown in. On one ballad they turned it into blues and Rap. Funny as hell. Sadly they disbanded a while back. I have the CDs but you can find them on YT.

The benefit of small venues, for my taste, is being able to distinguish and appreciate each instrument or voice. It doesn't need volume to be an effective performance, just intimacy.

It was a mid-week concert, with a huge Med/Surg II exam in college the next day. My nursing friends were horrified and tried to talk me out of it. I made index cards and studied while getting tickets in addition to just doing well with tests in general. I made the highest A in the class! HA!

334 THey need to execute this POS publically for the world to see :

"The man who allegedly killed conservative activist Charlie Kirk joked that his 'doppelganger' pulled the trigger while discussing the tragedy in a private Discord chat just hours after the shooting.

Tyler Robinson, 22, mocked the manhunt for the gunman and taunted the FBI's investigation while joking about obtaining reward money before eventually surrendering to police, according to messages obtained by The New York Times.

Robinson has since been arrested and identified as the prime suspect in Kirk's killing.

He showed no sign of remorse in screenshots of the Discord chat shared by a former high school classmate.

In fact, Robinson appeared to revel in the attention, exchanging meme-laced jabs with acquaintances while authorities scrambled to find the person responsible.

'Tyler killed Charlie!!!!' one user wrote in a group chat on Thursday afternoon, jokingly tagging Robinson.

Robinson fired back almost instantly: 'My doppelganger's trying to get me in trouble,' he wrote."

In case you have not yet reached the age of twenty-nine, he was quite famous in the fifties.

The old Bernie looking guy or the pony tail guy who stood up and cheered with fist pump? Both were either arrested or questioned. The Bernie guy, it turns out, is well known to police in Salt Lake. He got arrested in 2013 asking marathon people if he could help with a bomb (after the Boston Marathon). At this arrest he was yapping about his right to remain silent and a lawyuh.

The other guy was named. Did either a X diatribe or someone saw his questioning. He claimed bullshite and did not seem honest. So I think fist pump is still under investigation. I saw his real name so he's probably screwed for life for jobs. I hope he's connected, as I am pretty mean. I hope the poster on X, Omar, is also connected. He's who I turned in and was questioned.

Basically I want the entire gaming "followers" of their "new social paradigm" to be arrested. Fist bump guy had 75 followers.

One day a friend of mine asked if I wanted to go to the club. He’d heard this guy Pat Benatar was going to be playing and he was supposed to be pretty good. Sure.

Imagine our surprise when a VERY female Benatar came on “stage” (which was just the bar floor) and started bringing the house down. It also helped that this “guy” was wearing a leotard that looked to be sprayed on! She was on tour promoting her first album.

I figure that we were maybe 20 feet from her and the rest of the band.

New Orleans Jazzfest used to be a place to see big names/great musicians in small/nearly empty venues. The tents, on a weekday. Harry Connick Jr., just a few of us in the tent. And San Diego used to have a music thing called Street Scene, which like most such great things got much too big and then went away. Very first year, just 3/4 stages, nobody there. 383 To be read in a emphatic Trump PO'd voice

This kind of rhetoric is directly responsible for the terrorism that we're seeing in our country today, and it must stop right now.

"My administration will find each and every one of those who contributed to this atrocity and to other political violence, including the organizations that fund it and support it, as well as those who go after our judges, law enforcement officials, and everyone else who brings order to our country.

From the attack on my life in Butler, Pennsylvania last year, which killed a husband and father, to the attacks on ICE agents, to the vicious murder of a health care executive in the streets of New York, to the shooting of House Majority Leader Steve Scalice and three others. Radical left political violence has hurt too many innocent people and taken too many lives. Tonight, I ask all Americans to commit themselves to the American values for which Charlie Kirk and the monster who attacked him was attacking our whole country. An assassin tried to silence him with a bullet, but he failed. Because together we will ensure that his voice, his message, and his legacy will live on for countless
generations to come.

420 I am jumping in really late here, being on the West Coast and all, but talking of live music in small venues, I have experience both in the audience and on the stage.

Without a doubt, the band I have seen most in small venues is Tower of Power, almost always either at the Roxy or the Golden Bear. I saw them virtually every time they were at either place throughout the Eighties and Nineties. Those guys always had it nailed, every note in time, place and tune. The best horn section ever, back in the Greg Adams days.

I saw Marilyn Scott a lot during those years as well, usually at At My Place. She did a Christmas show every year with the Tower horns, which was always the highlight of my musical year.

On the stage, my friends and I had a pretty good band going for a while, and we had two epic shows. One was at Club 88. That was a scary show, because the first thing we saw when we got on the stage to set up was the sign facing the stage saying "NO COVERS." Now, that was early in our existence, and most of what we were doing then was covers. Our set with only originals would have been very short!

So we decided to do the only thing we could do, and ignore the sign. (continued)

434 As JackStraw and AOP mentioned, Flor de Cana 12. Clean column-still style with a fair amount of wood.

Rum has an interesting history. "Invented" (like many things, discovered by accident) in the New World, mostly likely Barbados, as a distillate of molasses, side product of sugar refining.

Rum was the primary hard liquor of America for most of its history, and played a role in Revolutionary War finances and doings (as did tobacco). Of course the US grew little sugar cane, but distilled lots of rum from imported cane/molasses. Rum dominated until Prohibition, from which it didn't really come back well. Bourbon and rye, already major players, took over in that lane following Prohibition.

Rum is enjoying it's latest rebirth in recent years, as Americans discover better rums meant for more than mixing. Europe and the UK have never lost their taste for fine rum. They have rum cruises in the Baltic. I'd love to wander a good liquor store in the UK or Netherlands, likely an amazing rum selection.
