Good morning boys and girls and everything in between. Before we enter the Prayer Revival there are a few housekeeping matters to go over. (Rulz for those of you in Adams and/or Friendship.

1) This is an open thread. Feel free to lurk, opine and/or bloviate.

3) Running with sharp objects? No here Bucko. Take it somewhere else.
4) Have a great weekend!!

I have no proof that God has a sense of humor. I find the following very ***SNORT*** worthy. As a guy with 2 bionic knees. I believe that God will smile at this.

AoSHQ Weekly Prayer List

Please submit any prayer requests to me, “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo atsign hotmail dot com. Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks unless we receive an update.

Prayer Requests:

7/11 – Matthew Kant Cipher requested prayers for Layne, a family friend who is also his son’s FIL. He was diagnosed with bladder cancer and is awaiting further test results to determine whether they treat with chemo or remove his bladder. As of now, it appears to be contained. Please pray that he and his family are blessed with God’s love and grace through this time of trial.
8/13 Update – Layne has had some good news. His PET scan indicated that the cancer hasn’t spread beyond his bladder. Also, it seems to be a less aggressive form of cancer than originally diagnosed. The Horde prayers are blessing him greatly and are immensely appreciated. Please keep them coming!

7/23 – D sent an update on his wife Susan, as they deal with cancer. The last few weeks have been a roller coaster. They cannot operate on the cancer, because it has spread too much. They have started chemo and hope to get it to shrink. Susan’s gallbladder is inflamed, but they cannot remove it, due to the chemo, and her blood sugar is having issues. Thanks to everyone for their prayers; Susan has pulled through all of this and is looking great as they keep praying to the Lord.
8/28 Update – Susan is out of the hospital and is doing very well overall. Her pain levels are the lowest they have been since this started, and she is eating again. Thank you, everyone, for the prayers.

7/26 – Coelacanth sent his thanks for prayers for his son. He has come a _very_ long way but could still use more prayers as he deals with vax and black mold injuries. Also, Coelacanth cut his left hand pretty badly and severed two tendons. He will be on light duty at work for 6+ weeks. Prayers are appreciated.
8/16 Update – Surgery for the repair went very well. He had cut 3 tendons, and all were repaired. He has 6 weeks in a split and then limited use for a few months thereafter. Thank you all for all your support and prayers!

7/26 - Brother Tim was discharged from the cancer rehab facility and has returned to his routine of living out of hotel rooms, while working on better housing prospects. He is praising God for all the blessings and mercies!
8/16 Update – The latest scan confirms the cancer did not spread, so radiation therapy will likely start on 8/28. The other problems are not budging, but he is thankful for the news he gets that is good.

8/13 – MkY sent an update on his wife Judy’s battle with cancer. Her immunotherapy is scheduled for every 3 weeks. Six weeks ago, she had a cold and had to skip it, and it was the best she had felt in a year. So they skipped the last one, too. She is scheduled for it again on 8/14. She’s not hurting. She is sleeping. She’s not healthy, but she’s got stage 4 cancer! September is the next CT scan, and they will find out if the immunotherapy is making enough of an impact to continue. They are very grateful for the prayers.

8/13 – MkY would appreciate prayers for Butch and Harry, who have worked with him for 20 years. Both have recently been diagnosed with cancer. Butch has liver cancer and Harry has cancer in his larynx.

8/16 – Our Country is Screwed sent an update. He said he had his last chemo last week, and has a break before radiation begins. Everything looks good so far. He is easily fatigued and has to build strength.

8/16 – Hadrian asked for prayers for Her Majesty, who is away on the show circuit, with The Big Dummy until Labor Day. Prayers for health and safety (especially from hurricanes) for them are appreciated.

8/16 – naturalfake requested prayers for a quick and full recovery from a bilateral inguinal hernia. It will be 2-4 weeks before being able to move around without pain, and up to 12 weeks, depending on how it heals. Thank you for the prayers.

8/16 – From about That Time asked for prayers for a daughter whose baby is overdue. The daughter was scheduled to be induced on 8/17.

8/16 – GV requested prayers for his neighbors, Kathy and Nicola, a mother and daughter. Kathy has a tumor near the base of her brain. She has been in and out of hospice care, and is getting radiation at a hospital an hour away. She is very weak and can barely walk a few steps. Nicola has a heart of gold, and quit her job and moved in with her mother to care for her. They are now saddled with medical expenses that go along with a bedridden patient, plus the cost and difficulty of maintaining two homes.

8/16 – Madmike requests prayers for his friend Jim. In less than a month, Jim went from being a fit, healthy, 70+ runner to bedridden, needing both open heart and brain surgery.

8/20 – rickb223 sent an update. His wife, Stacy, was diagnosed with Stage 4 endometrial cancer on 3/5/23. She had been seeing an oncologist in Plano, TX, but after two years, the chemotherapy was no longer working, and was doing more harm than good. They wanted to try and let her body heal for a couple of weeks. She went on hospice 8/1/25. They thought they would have more time, but God had other plans. She went Home at 10:20 am, to be with her father, brother, granddaughter, and our Lord.

8/22 – NR Pax requests prayers for his father, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s on 8/20.
8/30 Update – Dad was in the ER all Tuesday night after taking a tumble. He is on medication for Parkinson’s so now it’s a matter of seeing how much that helps.

8/23 – SpeakingOf could use prayers. SpeakingOf’s father’s lung cancer has returned, and due to dad missing SpeakingOf’s mom, dad does not want any treatment and is in hospice. SpeakingOf is worried and fearful and heartbroken and would appreciate God’s mercy at this time.

8/23 – Tecumseh Tea gave a status. She is steadily improving from her heart attack. She said she feels mostly like herself again. She is looking for a new cardiologist, since the one she saw had zero interest in her or her heart.
8/28 Update – Tecumseh Tea is in the hospital again with heart issues. Please pray that they can figure out what is going on and how to treat it.

8/25 – Grammie Winger posted that Rev is doing well, but she was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer last week.

8/25 – BurtTC is dealing with a family matter and could use some prayers.

8/26 – Axeman would appreciate prayers. He just gave the verbal approval to move his mom to hospice.

8/27 – Ben Had sent an update on JT. He is doing well and sends a “Hiya” to the Horde.

8/28 - Grumpy and Recalcitrant asks for prayers for Pixy Misa, who runs the morning tech thread. Pixy has been suffering from edema (water retention and swelling of the extremities). In addition to the swelling, there has been significant pain in both feet, and now one hand. Please pray that the doctors and nurses take this problem seriously. Pray that God guides their minds and hands in the diagnostic and treatment processes, so that Pixy may be restored to full health. Pray that He sustains Pixy through this health trial.

8/30 – Accomack requested prayers for his wife, who is hospitalized with babesiosis that advanced to hemolysis. She is anemic to begin with and won’t be discharged until her red blood count returns to normal.
9/1 Update Mrs. Accomack should be discharged on 9/2. Thank you for your prayers.

8/30 – The Walking Dude requested prayers for his mother, who fell and broke her hip. She is in the hospital, and will be in rehab for weeks/months? She is 90 years old. Please pray for her recovery. Thank you very much; he really appreciates the prayers.

For submission guidelines and other relevant info, please contact Annie's Stew, who is managing the prayer list. You can contact her at apaslo at-sign hotmail dot com. If you see a prayer request posted in a thread comment, feel free to copy and paste it and e-mail it to Annie's Stew. She tries to keep up with the requests in the threads, but she's not here all of the time, so she may not see it unless you e-mail it to her. Please note: Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks or so unless we receive an update.

16 Pixy Misa update:

Pixy has been on medication to reduce the water retention, and has shed many pounds in a short time, and has a creme to apply to the feet to help with the pain.

Both are helping a lot in short order. Things aren't fully back to normal yet, but there's been big progress, and a lot of relief from how bad it's gotten.

Thank you for your prayers, Horde. (I can't imagine this place without Pixy and the Tech Thread.)

I don't set an alarm except for Sunday morning at 4:20, but I'm a naturally early riser. The time between finishing morning chores (getting dressed, saying morning prayers, letting dogs in the house and kennel out, making coffee) and the sun coming up is my time. 28 Morning, Horde...How goes it?

I want to thank the Horde for your prayers for me over the past few weeks as I've been going through a difficult time at work.

I can now announce that I will be moving to a NEW JOB starting on Monday, September 22.

Basically doing the same work for less pay, but I'll have a different boss and that makes all the difference.

Since I'll still be working at the same university, I get to keep all my benefits, so that's also a plus.

My biological alarm clock has a range between 530 and 700. Getting up at 430 is just a tad outside the range but it's manageable, the rare times I've gotten up after 700, I have this unshakable feeling that I've wasted the entire day.

35 A warning related to last night’s recommended children’s book list:
The 2015 animated movie of the Little Prince story starts out with a stressed out little girl sneaking out of the house without her overbearing mother knowing. She hangs out with the elderly eccentric man next door who represents the pilot in the classic story.

36 First week of driving was... stressful. Things are starting to settle down now that we're past the first couple of days.

According to other drivers, the constant drip of changes to my route coming from up-stream won't settle down until the end of the month.

It'll get better. It'll get better. (Keep tellin' yourself that, Grumpy.) I'm worried that I'll never NEVER learn all the kids' names... There's so many of them on this new double-route I have this year.

Ah, the Sergeant Major voice. *pointing and yelling* "THAT MAN!!" (and at that moment, you couldn't have fit an American Express card between the cheeks of any man's arse on that parade square.)

I wasn't military, but I had a lot of friends who were, and wow did they have stories.

In one retelling, there was someone who was such a constant screwup, and managed to so horrifically cock things up, that the Sergeant Major sent the man to face the RSM (Regimental Sergeant Major) who apparently greeted the soldier by saying, "I gather the Sergeant Major couldn't think of a nasty enough punishment for you, so he sent you to me." And then the RSM let out the most disturbing, loud, and sudden bark of a laugh that the soldier must have felt the full weight of doom upon him.

62 Good morning, y'all

GOOD NEWS!

Nationwide Childrens Hooospital in Columbus, OH has announced it will be ending all gender treatments on children as of Sept 26.

https://is.gd/cFKjsz

OH legislature passed bill in 2023 banning all so-called "gender affirming care" in minors. Gov. DeWine vetoed the bill. The legislature overrode the veto. An appeals court ruled the bill unconstitutional (under the Ohio constitution) on the grounds that it infringed oon parental rights to choose and guide the healthcare of their children. In July, the Ohio supreme court allowed the ban to remain in effect while they consider the case. A final ruling has not been made but the C-bus children's hospital has stuck their finger in the wind decided to phase out its pediatric gender program. Begrudgingly, it seems, but they ARE shutting it down, and I'll take that as a good thing

"Gender-affirming care" = Delusion validating abuse

My last boss was so bad I was almost relieved to be fired. Every day I was told I had no idea how to read, how to write, how to talk, how to listen and how to think. That wouldn't have been so bad if he was actually interested in improving me, but he said he had no time for that.

65 Because for whatever reason the office seems determined to bounce me around ... and many drivers that had had routes for years got switched around this year. There is ... much unhappiness about this.

This happens in other industries too. For example, in the assisted living space. No one, even the paying patients like this.

Management is probably full of people without one bit of empathy. Ironically, without understanding or caring about other people, the advantage over having AI replace that manager's role is gone.

So true. I did in July of last year. Dude was a mess and would not shut the hell up. Would talk over you, around you, while you were on the phone, behind the bathroom door as you were taking a piss. Nutjob.

In my exit interview I told them to fire his ass and I'd come back. He walked off the job and here I am, just started back 2 weeks ago. Doesn't hurt they offered me a 12% increase.

The mark of rot and decay of a society is the amount of people who rely on Medicaid. That is why I'm behind mass deportation and MAHA - treats the causes, not the symptoms.

Medicare is evil in that it is mandatory, regardless of income at 65 or older. They want to reduce the cost of Medicare, then quit making it mandatory.

I had one at a dysfunctional company who never gave me even that much criticism. One Monday morning he marched me upstairs -- and then didn't even have the guts to fire me himself, but had the company owner's secretary do it. I told her, in his presence, "Don't trust this man." As we were going out, I swerved into the conference room where the regular Monday morning meeting was gathering, announced he'd just fired me, added, "Don't trust him," and strode out. With a strong sense of freedom!

I found another job within a month. Later I heard that my sneaky supervisor had been fired . . . by his own replacement.

Thanks, G & R. I figured I had nothing to lose. I would not be surprised to hear that many other staffers found new jobs quickly after I left.

The place was already dysfunctional, as I said. The owner, for instance, set up a rule that nothing was to show above the top of your cubicle -- not even your hat while it dried from the snow. One day one of the programmers went ballistic and had to be walked out by Security.

The company appears to still be in business; at least it has a presence on the Web. Maybe the original founder/owner has retired and sanity has crept in.

He didn't tell them.

114 A lot of awful people end up as supervisors simply because they want it more. Much of life is just about showing up, and people who push their way into stuff become an easy choice because a lot of folks just want to do their job and do it well, and don't enjoy bossing others around.

I figured this out in the military, where I realized that the people focus solely on checking boxes and advancing their career whizz past the actual workers, and so I made a deliberate effort to indulge in shameless self-promotion and as a result, made rank quite quickly. I would have risen higher but for physical disqualifications (imperfect vision and hearing), and then Covid happened and that was it.

An October 2024 DailyMail article (https://tinyurl.com/mppwx9wj) discusses a male pancreatic cancer patient (age early 50s) previously given 6-12 months to live but is now in remission, thanks to traditional chemotherapy followed by experimental treatments. The experimental treatments -- performed at the Williams Cancer Institute in California – involved "cryoablation" whereby a small metal probe was inserted through the skin and into the tumor, after which extremely cold gasses were released directly into the mass to kill its cells. The second step involved using "intratumoral immunotherapy" in which drugs were injected directly into a tumor to trigger an immune response. Two drugs were used in this treatment: YERVOY, which stimulates white blood cells to attack the cancer; and OPDIVO, which helps immune cells to recognize and destroy cancer cells. [continued]

144 PANCREATIC CANCER (post #2 of 2) ... The Oct.2024 DailyMail article discusses just one patient. However, a June 2025 update includes results of a study on SEVERAL people who had positive results from this experimental treatment. Unfortunately, the updated article is behind a paywall for me because I've reached my limit of freebies. But you might be able to track down and read the updated DailyMail article using the info below:

How is OC these days? When I lived in MD we used to go there about every other weekend during the summer, spend the night in some dump or sleep in our cars until roused by the cops. Then move somewhere else.

Food was pretty good... cheap, so was the beer.

Later in life my parents bought a house there and used it as a summer rental. We'd go and use it when out of season... the weather was still pretty nice in Sept - Oct.

175 Ah, Herr Lloyd. You made a good point last week about going to Confession. I do not deny that people can have great spiritual difficulties and may need to take more time.

On the other hand, the time period set for Confessions is usually limited and a lot of people are waiting. Perhaps a difficult or complicated situation could be handled by special appointment.

Posted by: Hadrian the Seventh at September 06, 2025 09:13 AM (kkTda)
---
Circumstances worked out that I ended up fasting for 18 hours yesterday, breaking my fast with the Host at the 12:15 pm Mass. Prior to that I received Reconciliation and there was something of a crowd, but it moved pretty quickly.

Confession is like anything else - the more you do it, the better you get at it. By that I mean you are better able to analyze your actions and discern the good from the bad.

Paradoxically, you will go to Confession less often, because you become more aware of sin, and therefore better at avoiding it. You can also discern mortal from venial sins, which do not need to be confessed, saving everyone's time.

179 In my experience, a "good confession" is one where you have already admitted your guilt, taken actions to remedy the harm you have caused, and then seek confirmation from the priest that you are doing the right thing.

Obviously, there are situation where things are not so clear, and I think that is when things run long. I have had several situations over the years where I needed not just reconciliation but spiritual guidance on how to proceed.

Finally, I have set up specific appointments for me and my family to do in-depth reconciliation, sometimes combined with the Anointing of the Sick. I have found this to be a very powerful way to break the bonds of sin.

My mother has had a pacemaker for decades, and it's amazing how much better they are, and how less intrusive. Her first one (installed after I was born) had a battery a "pouch" in her abdomen, with wires running up to her heart muscle. Those wires are still there, and she's had other ones over the years. In the 80s they became capable of sensing action, and increasing the pulse, which was a game-changer.

Obviously a gray box on the internet is not going to convince her, but it is crazy how convenient they are now.

What she wants to do is important also. Without knowing your mom's history, in my family many of the oldster's have just 'given up' and faded rapidly, seemingly by conscious decision, after long and valiant fights with various maladies. Both my parents and two of my grandparents died within a few weeks after leaving home care, and my mother in law checked out within the 100 days medicaid covered.
Easier on the family financially and emotionally.

I don't know if my mother would have done better or lived longer if she'd stayed with me. But I thought she did better than anyone expected in assisted living. It was very hard to do. But it gave her some opportunities that I couldn't - playing the piano for weekly prayer meeting, for example, where she was greatly appreciated. I say this not to give advice but just to share that I had always assumed it was better not to put her in a home, but in her case, I think it was the best of the available options (none of which were great or ideal).

225 Wenda, that made me laugh because I was really glad he didn't ask me that because I really hate driving. Not needing the opioids was key though. I am actually more mobile now with the cane than I was before the surgery. But not letting my sons off the hook for at least a couple more weeks. How I fare at PT will be determinant. Don't want to risk driving home from a session if it is exhausting.

Now she's in hospice, and he sees here daily, feeds her dinner and while it was tough at first, and he seemed to think she might revive, he's now used to the new routine, even bought a motorbike to save gas (guy is 82).

The big difference is he now has his life back, and can go out an do things rather than just stay home with her. He drove up to see us, went to the family reunion this summer for the first time since the pandemic, so there is an upside.

False dilemma. Consider it this way, the garbageman comes to take trash away--I am not required to worry about whether I like the trash man (or policeman, etc.) or even what they say--all I should care about a public servant doing is their job. What he does is no reflection on you and whatever you hold dear unless you believe he is doing evil. Then oppose him but be prepared to defend why you claim that.

But to be also to be fair, idolatry has very specific meaning in religious terms and I see none of that here--more like desperation for deliverance from a long string of evil leaders we have put in high places.

I also see Trump as an example that the Lord has a sense of humor as he often picks people to do his will that you would least expect. They are often flawed, not polished, can be weak in voice or even morals at time (see David as example).

Having been around politicians and politics for a long time, you realize soon that there are no saints--but the best of them take seriously into account their constituents.

And yet we have tremendous residual resources even in our decline. Trump knows this. We need to build things, grow things, become more self-sufficent and embrace our ancient values.

That also includes clearing out the deadweight, aliens and no-show no-work federal jobs.

It's interesting to see all these losers shilling for Russia and China, predicting their rise, when China in particular has feet of clay. If Chairman Xi has a stroke, China could collapse into civil war. It's teetering on the brink, and like North Korea, is using big parades to cover up its weakness.

Politics within parties is more nasty in invective than outside with the putative rivals. But DeSantis has his warts as well.

The wise pols and their followers live to fight another day on another battlefield to their choosing instead of worrying about the past.

Thus, you get someone like Marco Rubio reinventing himself to our benefit as we watch. That takes guts when a person sets aside their own grudges in order to do the public well. You can stew in grudges like Kasich for example which eventually leads one to lose whatever virtues they had or you can decide that every day brings a new challenge and that the work for the people of the US is much more important than hurt feelings.

I’ve never understood the Christian Laettner hate. There was even a 30 for 30 documentary on ESPN all about the phenomenon of Laettner hate. He was never anywhere close to the most arrogant or annoying sports personality so the only reason I can think of is the 2 championships in a row Duke won while he was on the team. Of course lots of players had similar success (just one example Bill Walton) and weren’t hated at that level so who knows

It is easy to dislike people in the abstract labels--but a simple reminder "There but for the grace of the Lord goeth I" and that we do not know their stories, struggles, and problems of those we see in public can produce a more charitable view.

Some of those people you see might drive you to get gas when your car is empty, help you in the parking lot when you fall, fix your flat on the side of the road, etc.

The parable of the Good Samaritan indicates that help will often come from those who aren't in our social group or status. We are all the Lord's children made in his own image.

324 Unbelievable - the Trump Administration has been establishing the Great Lakes Naval Station north of Chicago as a base for immigration operations in Chicago, and the rumor is that the Feds will be deployed in Chicago this weekend.

And now there is this -

Chicago's Mayor ordered all city salt trucks to form a mobile roadblock to hinder ICE operations. IDOT deployed state plows and salt trucks early on 9/6/2025, moving slowly side-by-side on I-294, I-94, and the Edens Expressway, occupying all lanes into Chicago.

I spent much of last evening talking to my three brothers and two sisters on the phone. She lives with brother J and his wife, and they said that she just kind of shuffles around, not doing much. Brother K said much the same thing when she visited him and his wife for a few weeks.

I grew up in farm country around a lot of people that had 'rough' appearances but hearts of gold. Later, I worked at Sears back in the day and would notice other salesmen treating those customers who weren't dressed well badly.

I tried my best to be as courteous and as kind to those customers as the ones that were dressed to the nines. And, you soon learned what was on the outside was far less important than what you could discover by simple conversation and interaction with the customer.

Long story made short--don't judge a book by its cover and our discomfort may come in part because we expect others to conform with our own self image.

I lived in the ATL for 5 years and rode MARTA (train, not bus) every weekday for 3 of those years. One thing I noticed - the people who offered me their seats were invariably young black men who looked somewhat sketchy - saggy pants, dreads, etc. I never minded standing, since I'd been sitting on my carcass all day at the library and would not expect a man to give up his seat for an ambulatory, healthy middle aged female (me). So I don't judge the well dressed guys. But I'm a little less judgmental of young guys with a "hood" appearance. Hopefully, without giving up any situational awareness.
