THE MORNING RANT: Perhaps the Populist Left is Finally Turning Against the “Philanthropaths”

Philanthropist - Outlaw Country.JPG

A subject I return to periodically is the problem of “philanthropaths.” These are mega-rich sociopaths who are seeking to impose an anti-freedom, global tyranny on the rest of us, deploying their wealth toward their evil agenda in the name of “philanthropy.”

Left-wing political parties across the globe have generally embraced these Bond villains, since their causes tend to align. However, the growing working-class revolt in the western world may finally be causing some people who default to the left to re-think their tribes’ peculiar allegiance to the world’s richest people.

First, a little background. In a 2024 article in The Pipeline I wrote:

So who is funding Just Stop Oil and the Climate Emergency Fund? Its wealthy, left-wing benefactors include Rory Kennedy (daughter of the late Robert Kennedy), Abigail Disney, and co-founder oil heiress Aileen Getty, among others.

A few months ago in a Blaze article titled “Meet the Philanthropaths” I discussed the societal problem of having people with unfathomable wealth seeking to use their fortunes to upend western civilization.

Many of us on the political right once held a principled aversion to telling the ultra-wealthy how to spend their money. If billionaires wanted to build libraries, fund symphonies, or throw lavish parties, fine — they were reinvesting in society, directly or indirectly.

But that was before the rise of the modern “philanthropath,” a new breed of sociopathic billionaire using inherited or self-made fortunes to re-engineer civilization from the top down. These aren’t benevolent stewards. They’re ideological crusaders waging war on tradition, prosperity, and truth.

By their actions, it seems clear to me that Bill Gates, George Soros, the Walton family heirs, and plenty of others are working toward a one-world government that sees everyday people as a pestilence. World Economic Forum guru Yuval Noah Harari stated the ugly truth when he said, “We just don’t need the vast majority of the population.” He’s not referring to himself. He’s referring to you and me. Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker and his brother sister sibling Jennifer Pritzker have turned Illinois into a sanctuary state for mutilating children in service to the transgender agenda, stating that it’s “a continuation of my family’s tradition of putting personal philanthropy into service for the public good.”

With all that as a lead in, I was intrigued while driving recently and listening to Sirius’ Outlaw Country station when a song with the title “Philanthropist” by Jesse Welles popped up. Although I had never heard of Mr. Welles, I am a fan of Billy Strings, who contributes instrumentally to the song, which made me even more interested. The song is a blistering condemnation of the people I call “philanthropaths,” with lyrics including:

“If if I got bored or money-weary, I'd try my hand in dabbling in social engineering.”

“I'm gonna be a billionaire, with a big foundation. We used to rule in shadows but I'd come right out, and I'd rule the nation.”

“I'm gonna do all my own laundry in a third-world nation state. Experiment with the locals, like some philanthropic saint.”

This song is not conservative by any means, nor is Mr. Welles. He is politically unaffiliated, but he writes in the tradition of populist, left-wing protest singers like Woody Guthrie and Butch Hancock. The music press likens him to Oliver Anthony, who was made famous with his protest song, “Rich Men North of Richmond.” Many conservatives thought a singer mocking the Washington power structure must be Republican, but Mr. Anthony is not.

The good news is that the populist left may be turning on their billionaire benefactors. But much of MAGA’s strength comes from disaffected “deplorables” who have found a champion in Donald Trump. If the RINOs and Republican establishment eventually succeed in purging the GOP of Donald Trump’s blue-collar base, the populist left might be singing a welcoming tune to them.

Anyhow, here is Jesse Welles with “Philanthropist”

*****

My latest piece at The Blaze has been published. “Buc-ee’s Gets Rich by Doing Everything Wall Street Hates” discusses the amazing success story of Buc-ees, which is still owned by its founders. Buc-ees has developed a cult following by employing management practices that repudiate the cost-cutting, poorly staffed, poor-quality ethos that has consumed corporate C-suites and private equity.

Buc-ee's has enormous restrooms that are immaculately clean, cheap gas with often more than 100 pumps, a kitschy-fun shopping experience, and exceptional food — including Texas barbecue and an in-house bakery. In addition, it’s heavily staffed with low-turnover, career employees.

Buc-ee's still understands the power of the previous business model that Las Vegas abandoned: Provide a high-quality “loss leader” or two to get the customers in the door, and then provide high-margin products that entice them to open their wallets.

The piece is behind a paywall, but if you’re a Blaze subscriber, I’d be honored if you’d give it a read.

18 I was just reading a thread on a left leaning forum complaining about how the very wealthy can minimize their tax liability and while the initial post and many comments have no understanding of taxes, high finance, or well, the mere basics of how an economy works every now and then one of them stumbles along the truth with something like;

"Well of course the tax system is going to benefit the people who the politicians and bureaucrats that write the tax code"

and...then they go off and rant about Trump or Musk but...so so close...

We have a similar grocery store chain around here, Dave's. Always running specials on staples but once you get into the place it's almost impossible to pass by their meat, produce, seafood or other fresh food areas without indulging.

Old strategy. It's the sections on the outside of the grocery store that make you money.

46 I think the USAID scandal exposed the fact that these mega-rich urticaria are very stingy when it comes to donating their own money.

Just like we found out with that Soros ghast, the vast majority of this "donated" money was really our money laundered through USAID and the rest.

Shutting down USAID was a major stab at the very (black) heart of the entire Democrap machine. I don't think we can really predict how this will all shape out.

50 Buc-ee's business model is spreading. I stopped for gas outside Victoria, TX two weeks ago, heading to Houston. It was a place called The Texan. I hadn't seen highway signs for it; first gas station outside Victoria and I needed gas. The restroom was spotless, about a third the size of a Buc-ee's. I was amazed. I didn't buy anything inside but it had a huge assortment of cold drinks, snack food, and pre-made sammiches. Much smaller interior than a Buc-ee's. At least 40 gas pumps. 50 state regulation of AI is exactly what the commerce clause is for. What it does is also prevent oligarchs from creating their own home cooked donation funded hindrances via funding state legislators to their competitors.

They need to build one in SC. That stretch of 85 miles from the GA border to 26 is just...devoid of anything.

71 50 state regulation of AI is exactly what the commerce clause is for. What it does is also prevent oligarchs from creating their own home cooked donation funded hindrances via funding state legislators to their competitors.

Some things have to be regulated at the national level and AI is probably one of those things because borders mean little to electrons.

85 62 I *hope* that Trump's engagement of Bill Gates is more along the lines of "Keep your enemies closer".
Posted by: Axeman
=====
Trump is a natural triangulator--no permanent enemies normally and no permanent allies. Aka the Dealmaker. This was one of the most feared things by the Right before and after he became president. And he still gets criticism from true believers in this or that (see the Tranny ban on firearms for example). But he has deeper principles governing that he sees an objective in the distance such as disentangling foreign power and influence over the US and then adapts tactical approaches like a sailor sailing into the wind using tacking back and forth. Same with being a intl peacemaker and getting us out of permanent wars, trying to solve the debt bomb by killing regulations, spurring growth, and full employment rather than austerity per se.

True believers in any cause hate this approach because it seems to be sacrificing principles constantly but they ignore the fact that massive disruptions in policy only come about from a calamity usually and Trump is trying to avoid that circumstance while fixing the ship of state.

A lot of that is a function of his age. Up until the 90sish someone like Gates or Zuck would have been an industrialist who built an empire , provided good paying jobs for employees and contributed positively to society. He still sees those traits in Zuck when in fact Zuck has done all he can to destroy society.

Sooo.... 1000 member World Council is divided into six Continental Councils. Continental Councils are made up of "representatives" for each country. Every country gets the same number of representatives as all other countries.
Each Continental Council " elects" a chairman. Those six chairmen are known as the Brethren.

——-

Keep in mind attitudes are contagious. These beliefs spread through propaganda in the media, entertainment and education. Relentless repetition and censorship of any opposing views.

So it should not be surprising when we ALSO hear “everyday people” (apologies to Sly and the Family Stone) parroting the same view point. They hate themselves first, but they have offloaded their self-loathing, externalized it to hate humanity generally and are supportive of policies, laws, rules that are inherently anti-human.

From a practical psychological standpoint it makes for a misanthropic type of cynic. You can’t reason with people who get that far off the beam.

They were with cut and paste plagiarism back in the day as well. Part of the issue though is universities are going to have to roll back to an older understanding of academe (and cheaper) instead of our current massive institutions that are wasteful imitations of bad urban school districts. Most people are seeking a credential from universities and colleges, not to learn how to think nor how to educate themselves.

And that is perfectly reasonable approach--people gotta eat. But we can no longer afford the expense of credentialism--it will be much more affordable to use gateway exams with job apprenticeships where AI usage can be strictly controlled for many jobs that simply require ability to do a specific task and the apprenticeships serve to indicate to suitability for the task.

We need to spend substantial amount of money to improve technical education as well--the old Vo Tech approach has been destroyed by shoveling money and effort instead toward the cheaper grievance and lecture in soft subject focuses.

The world is not systematic enough to not have to make judgment calls here and there.

To me, faith has the highest ceiling of any human cognition, but the history of men using the authority of the divine authority for their own self-aggrandizement is abundant.

So, I even need to make judgment calls in the pursuit of the Highest.

I can see that the inevitability of making judgment calls is God familiarizing us with what judgment calls are. And how better outcomes require judgment calls, and the living out the consequences of our judgments.

This path ultimately describes what has been called the "Problem of Evil". Why does Evil exist? It's in keeping with a judgment call the Almighty made. In this way, we shall truly learn Good from Evil.

140 I don't know if it's still true, but at one point essentially all of the gasoline sold in Alaska, regardless of brand, came from a single Tesoro refinery down on the Kenai Peninsula.

I've also heard that essentially all of the aspirin sold in the United States, again regardless of brand, comes from the same chemical plant.

That was a number of years ago, though. Nowadays it probably comes from Chy-na.

147 I have changed my viewpoint on the matter of the super wealthy in a way that I would never have imagined 40 years ago. I now think that there is a limit, in a Republic, to how rich someone can be, even if legitimately earned. When you are as wealthy as a quarter of the countries on Earth, you are going to corrupt the Republic, if only in self defense. I can't tell you where that point is but I am willing to entertain limits.

Common enough in the fast food industry--often the trick is the roll out the new stores so fast that you maximize grabbing market share and bucks for the franchisor while the franchisees begin to fail to maintain the original's success.

Lots of failed concepts for chain restaurants (and the same for retail). So the emphasis is on strip mining for the maximum revenue to get investors on board and then you walk away from the coming dumpster fire. Larger version of pump and dump.

153 Trump is a natural triangulator--no permanent enemies normally and no permanent allies.

Good. It is necessary to destroy the mystique of the federal judiciary as nothing more than unelected politicians in robes. They are not particularly wise, nor are they particularly learned as a group though some may be. But ultimately, policy control in our government has to be through the political branches because otherwise you get minority rule by veto, not persuasion. EU is already suffering because their Court system is thoroughly destructive to good governance and combined with the unelected EU Bureaucracy, is strangling representative democracy in Euroland in order to rule.

Have to break the filibuster to do that either by holding up all business by doing it via a talking filibuster (exhaust the speakers list and it proceeds to cloture automatically as Senate rules limit speaking on a subject under debate) or you do it via the nuclear option.

Always enjoy our exchanges, Whig.

I just start wandering. My faith is central to me, so saying as a sort of absolute that I'm not a purist could make it sound like I'm a cultural Christian. So, the next step was clarifying that since rejoining the faith, I have been mindful that the endeavors that God's engagement with Man from Creation, the Flood, Babel, Israel, the Incarnation, and the Church, Man clouds the perfect judgment of the Lord with the venial judgments of men. Or just the fleshly need to say "I am right."

At the risk of turning around the last sentence of Judges: we all tend to be "right" in our own eyes.

201 188 Have to break the filibuster to do that either by holding up all business by doing it via a talking filibuster (exhaust the speakers list and it proceeds to cloture automatically as Senate rules limit speaking on a subject under debate) or you do it via the nuclear option.

I think the time has come to break the Senate ratchet possibly starting with the next reconciliation bill on financial matters. Byrd rule has to go.

======

The long-running issue of the circuit court being overstretched could make it feel less outrightly partisan if leadership handles it right.

People don't care about judges, so maybe the Senate could get 7 Democrats to sign onto a 12th and 13th Circuit while kind of ignoring the elimination of the DC Circuit.

I think it would be worth a try, at least.

Yes. Scotus has the power of civil contempt which they have used once where a sheriff in Chattanooga did not protect a prisoner from being lynched. Civil contempt is the exception to a jury trial requirement for incarceration up to one year and fines for non compliance can also be levied.

The argument made for the exception is that the keys to the jail and fines are in your pocket--if you agree to comply, both stop immediately.

The SCOTUS was an experiment, as one of the Federalist Papers indicates. It's the only branch in which one of the authors says that if it turns out to be something it wasn't intended to be, maybe it should never have been.

Because the founders, and in particular Madison, had never seen a separated Judicial branch in action, the novelty of the invention appears to have precluded knowing what abuses the Court could fall into.

There doesn't seem to be any structure for quality assurance other than judicial review.

Congress has the role to impeach--of course, Congress was *never* supposed to create branch hybrids, either. But various "independent agencies" *are* just that.

Anything that is not tied to researching, making and adjudicating laws is an *executive* function, if the US government is going to perform that function, that power is VESTED in the single person of the President.

"Independence" of government power from elected representatives is a mind-virus the media is spreading.

Brookings has had a Lawfare section headed by Norm Eisen among others for a long while. And Brookings accepts foreign money (Qatar among others) to peddle influence in DC. So what has become is a loose network tied to law school profs, former clerks to SC justices and federal judges working for political Big Law, and idealistic junior lawyers as grunt workers along with the DNC galaxy of special interest groups and activists. The special interest groups and activists are those claiming standing, the lawfare apparatus provides the lawyers, and foreign/domestic donors fund the lawsuits.

Same as the pattern litigation against Trump and his officials like Navarro. All of this is plotted in advance to target people, freeze them by investigations, punish them with impoverishment by legal fees, and ultimately drive them out of the public square and power in government.

Sarah Palin was such a case in Alaska and this mode of Democrat lawfare has spread since then.

The reason that between 1942 and 1991 we had "police actions" and not wars--even though they looked a lot like wars--is the collective cowardice of the Congress to not want that word attached to military actions.

When Trump unexpectedly won, they had to cover-up SpyGate by creating RussiaGate. Here's a link to the episode "The Deep Rig" for those interested (1 hour and 45 minutes):

Security= military personnel who act as police force to keep the "others" from getting too uppity. Mostly Caucasian.

Top Tier is mostly a marketing exercise, but all name-brand gas comes from the same refinery in the area. It's all quality stuff.

What actually goes into your tank is more a function of how well the individual gas stations maintain their pumps and tanks than what gas gets to the stations in tanker trucks.

309 Gasoline is gasoline, the difference in top tier brands is the proprietary detergents added, which do make a slight difference in performance and engine durability.

Given that the detergents are to keep carbon build up off the valves, and direct injection bypasses the valves, do detergent enhanced fuels even make sense for newer cars (that don't have hybrid injection)?

Injectors foul over time and detergent gas lengthens the time on replacing them. Injectors are a wear item by essentially clogging up over time and replacing them early is very expensive.

If you lease and return cars in a couple of years or drive fleet, not worth worrying about fouled injectors--but those of us keeping vehicles for a long time, it is a factor. Pay now or pay later. Plus, a vehicle with fouled injectors drives like crap.

It should help the valves even then, as they are subject to ignition heat, and theoretically, it also reduces carbon in the exhaust manifold, and you would be surprised at how performance can suffer with reduced exhaust flow.

326 I never heard of TOP TIER gas (caps in trademark) until I bought my wife's new used car and double checked the manual (I didn't want to find out it needed more than 87 octane gas). Both AAA and Consumer Reports have done studies showing it is better for the engine. It has added detergents (electrolytes?) that reduce carbon deposits more than simple API standard gas. Plus nearly all the recognized brands sell TOP TIER. So that's why when I found out Sheetz doesn't, I was disappointed.

Remember to hydrate, don't drink straight water. Mix in some trace minerals, or magnesium and potassium. Salt is good to retain water in your body, but magnesium and potassium sucks water into your cells, which *is* hydration.

Your body reads un-mixed water as *excess* water, it goes right to your kidneys and you pee it right out.

A lot of people walk around with nearly-transparent pee and take that as they must be really *hydrated* because they've seen the shade charts. But if you're are drinking un-mixed water, it's probably just your body ridding itself of "excess water".

A fair number of engines aren't direct injection and thus prone to carbon buildup.

Also, modern engines often run at an order of magnitude more compression than your bitchin' 68 GTO so good quality gas does run better.

I was surprised by the number of direct injection engines - mostly on the down-trim cars because DI is a trick to squeeze more performance and efficiency out of an undersized engine.

I have a funny story about the MAF (Mass Airflow Sensor) -- a part I was unfamiliar with beforehand.

After an oil change, I start to drive my car out of the parking lot and it loses all power for some reason. Had it towed to the Dealer.

Service Advisor calls and says they "found a bug in my Mass Airflow Sensor." When I pick the car up, I ask: "So what, did you have to upgrade some firmware or something?"

Guy looks at me like I have two heads; turns out it was an actual physical bug body that was blocking the airflow (causing the fuel injection to cease). I suspect they checked my air filter and a dead bug body fell inside ...

My dad was partners with a guy (who used to work for him) hauling fuel out of the refinery in Memphis. The major difference in the gas loads are still the detergent packages--those are added per the fuel retailer just like the pump dispensers do while being fed into the tanker. That was directly at the refinery. Dunno how the gasoline pipeline loading facilities work but I'd imagine something similar.

So yes, same gas base, but additive packages vary among the retailer's load of gas heading out.

369 >The MD state flag has been approved for draperies in all our fine hotels and motels.

as a native Marylander, I object to this calumny!

It's a tablecloth
also suitable as a tapestry

371 If you go to Shell, Sunoco, Marathon or the other top 40 or so recongizable brands, that's what is coming out of the pump anyway no matter which octane level. You may save a couple of cents a gallon at Sheetz or the few other companies that aren't with the program.

I usually buy the least expensive fuel I can find. It's a commodity, after all. The marginal improvement in mileage or performance to be had from more expensive fuel rarely justifies the premium in price.

373 364 I give my little KIA a treat of no ethanol every few months when I run the tank down and add a bottle of injector cleaner. After that it runs fine on 87 octane.

Where higher octane can actually help is long trips at high speed which also helps to burn out crap from stop and go city traffic and with older worn engines that have lost some compression affecting acceleration. Plus, some, not all, hi test may not have alcohol in it allowing for slightly better gas mileage on long trips.

374 A nice place to rest while battling insane trucks on I-81...

No shit. They should just call I-81 Amazon Highway.

375 My wife and I a year ago walked around Las Vegas in one of the hottest periods there in years. It was like 120 F near the pavement.

We drank a lot of water and rarely had to pee, because we put electrolytes in every bottle of water we drank.

376 Buc-ees does something else Wall Street hates, it pays its employees, and pays them well.

Here is Tennessee, where money goes a little further, $125,000 is pretty good grease for managing a gas station.

377 United Air is the antithesis of the Buc-ee method. After being stuffed into a seat that barely would fit a child, and charged extra because it was close to an actually good seat, and after enjoying the bathroom which was like out of a bus station, I checked to see what the CEO was making after all this cost cutting due to the pandemic.

$33 million a year.

378 We stopped at the one off of 81 nearish 66 going into DC. Totally packed and amazing how every employee we encountered was friendly and offered assistance. So far Buc’s is reliable. On frequently driven routes, have a list of stops to make or move along. There are some on 81 that are truly horrifying and disgusting.
