US Population Could Shrink for First Time Ever Due to Reverse Migration, "Alarming Data" Shows

The NY Post, everyone. It's "alarming" that illegal aliens are leaving the country.

This "alarming" data comes from the American Enterprise Institute, a left-libertarian propaganda outfit for trillion-dollar corporations which hoodwinks conservatives into thinking it serves anyone but its wealthy plutocrat patrons.

The United States could see its population shrink for the first time ever in 2025 as immigration numbers and birth rates have plummeted, according to a report.
Net international migration to the US in 2025 could drop to as low as negative-525,000 this year, according to an analysis by the American Enterprise Institute. With a net of 519,000 births reported by the US Census last year, the US could possibly lose 6,000 people -- the first population decline in nearly 250 years of American history.
AEI predicts that the net immigration into the US will fall off from about 2.8 million to between 115,000 and negative-525,000, which, even at the lower end, is still a 96 percent fall in international immigration, the Telegraph reported.
Even during the American Civil War -- when some 700,000 Americans were killed -- and during the COVID-19 pandemic, the US population has always increased every year, even if not significantly.
The population decrease has also been compounded by an apparent national "sex recession" -- with America's fertility rate projected to average just 1.6 births over the next 30 years, which is below the replacement rate of 2.1 children per woman, according to the Institute for Family Studies.
The IFS survey found that just 37 percent of men and women were having sex weekly, compared to 55 percent in 1990.

Okay, that part is indeed alarming.

The number of immigrants in the US had already dropped for the first time in 50 years, declining by 1.4 million people in the first six months of 2025 after President Trump kicked off his second term with a major crackdown on illegal border crossings and mass deportation efforts, according to the nonpartisan Pew Research Center.

The Department of Homeland Security has said that 1.6 million illegal migrants have voluntarily left the US since Trump came back to office -- contributing to the massive decline in the immigrant population.

So alarming for AEI's donors! Imagine if they have to pay their workers more! Quelle catastrophe!

Regarding the "sex recess" or baby bust: It's progressives, of course, who are the main drivers of human extinction, as you'd imagine.

Burn-Murdoch wrote extensively about the data at the Financial Times, but his essay sits behind the paywall. He did offer quite a bit of commentary on Twitter this morning about the data and implications of a November 2024 study published by Biodemography and Social Biology. Titled "Demography leads to more conservative European societies," authors Martin Fiedler and Susanne Huber conclude that self-selection may well push Western societies farther to the Right:

Using the Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe (a total of 66,188 participants from 15 European countries) and the European Gender and Generation Survey (a total of 121,248 participants from 12 countries), we investigated i) whether differences in political attitudes and attitudes toward family values (i.e. attitudes toward homosexual couples, attitudes toward female reproduction) are associated with differences in the average number of children, and ii) whether such an association between fertility and attitudes affects the population share of these attitudes in subsequent generations. We found that in most of the countries analyzed, right-wing (conservative) individuals have, on average, more children and grandchildren than left-wing (liberal) individuals. We also found that the proportion of right-wing individuals increases from generation to generation. Since political attitudes are presumably evolved traits that are socially and genetically transmitted from one generation to the next, these findings may suggest that demographic differences can lead to shifts in prevailing political attitudes. Thus, to some extent, demography may explain longer-term political trends.

I think a big part of the discrepancy is that this is all self-reporting. Sex was hot and fun in 1990 and thus a poll asking "how often do you have sex" was likely to generate polling exaggerated in the "more sex" direction.

Sex is not considered hot and fun in 2025. Thus the same polling questions are likely to generate polling exaggerated in the "less sex" direction.

While it may be true there is less sex overall, I find it hard to believe it cratered almost 33%.

But nations don't...die because of it. National death is a policy choice about culture and government, not a reflection of decreased birth rates.

It'll hurt a lot in some sectors, and there could be outright depression because of it, but America will survive it, if it chooses.

The wise ones are sending their kids to private or charter schools or home schooling them. And some public schools still do good work. The problem is that school board elections, bond issues, etc. are always held in low turnout elections where less than 10 percent of the public votes. Thus, leftists gubmint employees vote, the general public less so unless wakened by some horrible outcome forcing them to pay attention.

Government policy and knowing what is going on takes work. I did it in practical politics and later the professional study of the field and it is still taxing for me. I can generally dig out the truth if I have to, but it takes time and attention to do so. I cannot blame parents for not knowing much if anything that their school boards, let alone schools for their kids are doing day to day and across every teacher. Parents operate on the fire alarm system rather than police patrols due to time constraints (money and willingness to be punished by schools for standing up for their kid also come into play here).

Looked up some numbers recently; there are now 3.7 million children being home schooled, mostly conservative Christian. Probably 10 times that in religious or charter schools, although I haven't looked up those numbers.

Cuz we're busy and have kids, so it's harder to get that post-graduate degree or whatever schools require in order to teach these days. Three of the four families on my block that I know well have the mom working as a teacher's aide at the Christian school (one just started this year). All of them don't have time to get a "proper" degree because they've got school-age kids. My caregiver job is 24/7, so I don't have time either.

Here in Texas I've gotten to know some, yes, had some work for me on various projects. And many of them don't come here to stay full time; they will stay a few weeks here, get some money, go back to Mexico til they're really broke, then come back. The lax border enforcement previously meant that going back and forth was a trivial concern.

Now those who go back are starting to find it's not so easy to get back in.

It really is worse for a lot of younger people.

Younger females, especially, report higher levels of depression than ever, mostly attributed to social media addiction and feelings of worthlessness.

It’s one thing when your parents make you feel unwanted, but it’s a big deal when their own brains are making them feel that way due to constantly comparing themselves to others online.

Most of us Gen X and Boomers could go home and decompress from school, etc. But so much of their lives are in their phones 24/7 that they can’t get away from it.

A few years ago, research endocrinologists did a completely valid well-designed double-blind study in which they gave on cohort of college-age women a droplet of water infused with testosterone dabbed with a Q-tip on their upper lips, and the other cohort a placebo droplet of just plain water. After 20 minutes they then filled out questionnaires about their moods, outlook on life, etc. (having already filled out the same form prior to the test). Those who got the placebo showed no change in mood and outlook, but those who got the testosterone said they were happier, more optimistic, etc.

After the study was published, many folks noted that this was a scientific argument for "facials."

We unfortunately live in a time of limited resources of money, personnel, and political capital. One of the necessary things to carry out a massive seashift in policy is that you must persuade people that you are a) serious about it, b) publicize the successes, c) freeze and immobilize the opposition to support the asinine alternative, and d) not affect the normies too much when carrying it out.

The question is what to do first and I think Trump and Homan are doing that correctly, you may disagree, but the anti deportation types are correct that if you try to rip out roughly 30-40 million at once, enough bad things are going to happen that probably scuttle the consensus to do so. That is what the left was trying to do--create facts on the ground too massive to counteract. It won't be fixed overnight.

Administration has had pretty obvious suggestions for approaches that minimize economic disruption while maximizing impact in hand (since the first term). Absolutely zero action on them.

Every segment of the illegal problem can be addressed, there's no triage situation. Leverage is a key factor in all of this, and by far the greatest/cheapest/easiest leverage is perp walking employers. Or, finally, adopting some of the approaches that have been suggested for years, that achieve the same thing with less economic disruption.

Instead, publicly, so far, all we have are a few jaw-dropping ridiculous hints by the boss about amnesty for ag and hospitality sectors.

And some non-criminal illegals are *are* being dealt with, from car washes to meat packers. But it's small, episodic, and with far less intimidation/motivation value than employers getting prosecuted.

345 No. Probably the worst place you could go and get one. Former communist states have basically left their mark by destroying morality in those places. Some, like Poland or Hungary, are far better bets as they preserved their faith as much as possible. Other places, not so good.

Ukraine and Moldova are basically bereft of what we call morality in favor of survival ethics. Russia too as far that goes.

Eagles wrote a song about it--Lying Eyes basically.

They have lower birth rates than we do. Poland criminalized abortion - not for religious reasons - but because they are bleeding people. All of Eastern Europe is still paying for their former Soviet masters. As is Russia, whose demographics absolutely suck.
