British Comedy Writer Graham Linehan, Creator of "The IT Crowd," Arrested at Heathrow Airport Over Anti-Trans Tweets

Father Ted co-creator Graham Linehan was arrested at Heathrow Airport on Monday after arriving on a flight from Arizona and faces an investigation over recent social media posts on X.
"On Monday, 1 September at 13:00 hours officers arrested a man at Heathrow Airport after he arrived on an inbound American Airlines flight. The man in his 50s was arrested on suspicion of inciting violence. This is in relation to posts on X," the Metropolitan Police told The Hollywood Reporter in a statement on Tuesday. Linehan was not named directly in the statement, but multiple outlets, including the BBC, reported that Linehan was the person arrested. And Linehan himself wrote about the arrest on Substack.
"After being taken to police custody, officers became concerned for his health and he was taken to hospital. His condition is neither life-threatening nor life-changing," the Metropolitan Police statement continued. Linehan was released on bail "pending further investigation" into three X posts in April 2025.
On Substack, Linehan said his bail condition ordered him "not to go on Twitter" and that his arrest and an initial interview with police officers over X posts related to trans people.
"Later, during the interview itself, the tone shifted. The officer conducting it asked about each of the terrible tweets in turn, with the sort of earnest intensity usually reserved for discussing something serious like ... oh, I dunno -- crime? I explained that the 'punch' tweet was a serious point made with a joke. Men who enter women's spaces ARE abusers and they need to be challenged every time," Linehan recounted.

His 'crime'? Three gender-critical tweets.
As Graham says in his Substack:
"In a country where paedophiles escape sentencing, where knife crime is out of control, where women are assaulted and harassed every time they gather to speak, the state had mobilised five armed officers to arrest a comedy writer".
Graham's single bail condition is that he does not go on X.
We do not believe Graham's arrest or the bail conditions imposed were lawful. We will be backing him all the way in his fight against these preposterous allegations and the disproportionate response from the police.

Now compare Vance with someone like DeSantis who has ran a large state very conservatively for years now plus has a stint in Congress.

Vance's profile is more like GHWB's profile than someone like Trump or DeSantis (or even Abbot for that matter). Brief stint in Congress, then VP with a favorable biography.

What is needed post Trump is a consolidator and this is where often the disruptor is followed by someone that actually steers the ship of state back onto the rocks either willingly (GHWB) or because they are too weak to steer against the prevailing currents (GWB).

Basically, their "Conservative" Party is if the Mitch McConnell/Jeb Bush wing won. She seemed to keenly understand US politics.

Their Tories don't really want to fix anything. She compared it to the US where Trump took over the GOP vs the UK where the Establishment wing is in charge.

They asked her why not join the Reform Party and she was saying she would prefer to fix the Tories. But clear that's never happening.

Even with Brexit, all the EU laws are still on the books over there.

That being said, given the fact that we have gone from a. 40 to one employee to retiree ration to damn near two to one means you SHOULD care. You don’t have a personal SS savings account. No one does. They are all current day transfer payments.

That being said, we should only have immigration on an as needed basis only, and only of this country benefits. If both sides aren’t benefiting from immigration, the society being immigrated to above all: fail.

Social Security is the easy fix simply by raising the retirement age to 65 for early and 70 for full just as they did in the 80s--increase the time needed by one month per year. Last calculations was this would stabilize Social Security until the 2070's or so.

But, the largest and fastest increasing drivers of our deficits have switched to Medicare and Medicaid. (Mandatory interest on the debt is also one of the fast growers). Medicare taxes are far too low comparatively with Social Security with total exhaustion of the alleged trust fund in a couple of years (even now the Fed General funds are making up the bulk of the difference). Medicaid is all welfare spending and much of it does little to anything to improve health of those covered.

Not so much. White Sands was the original proving ground for launching the V2 variants we grabbed from Germany. Ft Bliss was the closest US Army post of any size to service White Sands.

Dude had a history of statewide races in AL before that. He barely won them. He was already anything but a "generic republican". It just took one manufacture outrage to get him from 51% to 49% in a special election.

473 Same as it ever was. Most of these mergers-unmergers have less to do with any actual benefit to the company or its shareholders. Mostly, they are designed to benefit upper management, banks, private equity, and the armies of lawyers, accountants, and similar remoras.

My understanding is that a lot of times this kind of stupid stuff is because of consultants. One group of consultants advocates for the merger, and another, later on, recommends the split-up.
