“Watching the Biden thing really said something about the necessity for generational change in the party, and I think I want to respect that,” Nadler, 78, said, adding that a younger successor “can maybe do better, can maybe help us more.” Nadler refused to comment on who should be his successor or whether he believes anyone else in Congress should follow his example and retire due to his advanced age. “I’m not saying we should change over the entire party,” he said. “But I think a certain amount of change is very helpful, especially when we face the challenge of Trump and his incipient fascism.” That fat fvck couldn't run even if there was free ice cream in front of him. Guar gum is widely used in home kitchens for making various baking products, like non-gluten bread.
Carrageen "moss" is a perfectly nice Irish seaweed. There's all kinds of old-fashioned Irish puddings that use carrageen itself as a thickener. 7 g/¼ oz (approx. 1 semi-closed fistful) cleaned, well-dried carrageen moss 900 ml/30 floz (3¾ cups) milk 1 vanilla pod or 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract 1 large egg 2 tablespoons caster (superfine) sugar Soak the carrageen moss in a bowl of tepid water for 10 minutes. It will swell and increase in size. Strain off and discard the water and then put the carrageen into a saucepan with the milk and the vanilla pod, if using. (If using vanilla extract, it will be added later.) Bring the milk slowly to the boil, watching that it doesn’t heat too fast: if the milk heats too quickly, it might suddenly expand in volume and overflow. Reduce the temperature to maintain a very gentle simmer for about 15 minutes, until the carrageen moss has softened and somewhat dissolved into the milk. Remove the saucepan from the heat. Ideally the mixture should have a soft set; if it is too firm a little more milk can be added to adjust it. If it does not test for a set, cook for a few more minutes.
At that point and not before, separate the egg. Put the white in a spotlessly clean bowl and set to one side. Put the yolk into a separate bowl with the sugar and vanilla extract, if using, and whisk together for a few seconds. Pour the hot milk and carrageen moss through a fine mesh sieve into the egg yolk mixture, whisking all the time. By now the carrageen in the strainer will be swollen and exuding jelly and you will need to press as much of this as possible through the sieve. Use a rubber spatula, scraping any pulp stuck to the outside of the sieve into the egg and milk mixture and whisk to combine. Discard the vanilla pod, if using. Whisk the egg white to a stiff peak and gently fold it into the top of the milk mixture, allowing it to remain as slightly uneven fluffy peaks. Do not be tempted to over mix, as the egg white should create a distinct layer on top. Transfer to the serving dish, or divide between the individual serving glasses, and place in the fridge to set for at least 3 hours or overnight. We decided that if a food had an ingredient that we don’t use
Well, that's a pretty stupid criteria. I have sodium citrate specifically because it's used to emulsify cheese. Unless you cook your own Chinese food at home, I'll bet there's lots of ingredients you never use at home - and can't ever eat Chinese out because of it. And you NEVER buy anything preserved, then, either? Because sodium benzoate is the main preservative out there, and I almost guarantee you never use it at home. How about curing meat? Do you eat bacon? If you don't cure it yourself then I will guarantee you never use the things that are used to do exactly that. Posted by: GWB at September 02, 2025 10:53 PM (RTQn+) 157

I'm not bothered by Chelsea's previous jobs as a qualification for Congress. We've been plagued by "highly qualified" lawyers filling up much of Congress for decades and look where that's got us. I'd rather see more normal people from all walks of life represent average people. What bothers me is she is a corrupt dunce from a family of criminals. Still, she can hardly be worse than Omar, Talib or the rest of the leftist scumbags and we aren't likely to get a Constitutional conservative from Manhattan any time soon. Kase (Yoko's uncle) actually was a pretty important member of the delegation. He "staffed" the foreign minister as the latter signed the instrument of surrender, and generally managed the situation at the table, with guidance from an Allied officer.

_______________________ Unfortunately, I've seen it happen. The electricity takes the path of least resistance...and if you are standing on a metal ladder, that means it travels from your upper appendages down through the body and out the lower appendages (both sets of appendages touching the ladder) Electricity in that capacity isn't exactly subtle when arriving and leaving. Kase also was involved in fixing the glitch during the surrender signing. The Canadian representative, Colonel Cosgrove, mistakenly signed on the line for France (he was blind in one eye, a WW I injury). Gen. Sutherland fixed things by crossing out the printed country names and handwriting in Dominion of Canada for France, and vice versa. Japanese perfection in small things for the win (even in signing a surrender!).

It’s so sad to see what happened to the formerly Great Britain.
All started with Tony Blair in the late 90s. You could say the Brits got what they voted for good and hard. But in a parliamentary system with multiple parties labor won majorities of seats with well under 50% of the vote, each time. The destruction of their country was created with a minority of votes. Two incidents around here over my life of poor guys riding 7200V to ground distribution lines. Killed both of them, but very different behavior. One guy was moving a grain auger manually. If you've ever done it, you're grabbing the tube with your arms lifting it up. Unfortunately a guy was doing that in a grain bin "farm". 7200V 3-phase line coming in to a pole x-former, feeding a service for the motors. He swung it right into the outer phase. His wife missed him for supper. Got a neighbor to help look for him. Neighbor was a Vietnam vet and knew the smell of burning human flesh. Coroner put his remains in buckets. He stood there grabbed onto that energized auger, pulling a pretty good current. He burned alive in that spot. Incident #2. Guys were working with some aluminum irrigation pipe, 25' sections I think off a truck, laying it down. Again, not paying attention, got under a power line. One of them on the ground next to the truck grabbed the pipe, and stood it up (they wanted to bang it to get any dirt and crap out). It hit a phase. This time, earth resistance was high, not enough current flowed to make anything obvious, but it was enough to drop him right there. The others had no idea what happened. It was only after investigation they discovered slight arc marks on the pipe, and then had the power co confirm arc marks on the phase line as well. No, that’s per Troy oz.
A US silver dollar is 0.77 oz Troy. The subsidiary coinage - dimes, quarters, and halves, are even less - 0.723 oz Troy. Use these figures to determine the “melt” value of so called junk silver, that has no numismatic value. Posted by: Common Tater at September 02, 2025 11:49 PM (HpBvd) 206

Or I should say 10 silver dimes, or 4 quarters, etc a dollar face value do not make a Troy ounce, rather .723 this is an example of seignorage I suppose.
This meant when the spot price of silver hit approx $1.23 the government had a problem. This started in the 1950s and never looked back. Coins were worth more than their face value. >> How does one demonitize a coin?
The problem is mostly with pennies and nickels, where the value of the metal content can exceed the face value. For dimes and quarters, that wouldn't be the case, and you'd lose money trying to do that. For pennies, you could make money, which would cost the govt. the difference. Demonetizing is basically a money supply balance operation (it's done as matter of course within the Fed and banking system). It will seem a bit odd maybe at first. But suppose I wanted to melt pennies down, legally. I'd need the approval of the US govt. I would "sell" the pennies back to the govt. who would pay me the face value in other currency. At that point, the pennies would be demonetized, back in the hands of the source, the US Treasury. Then, I'd buy the pennies back from the govt for their metal content value. That would cost me net money. I'd have to pay more money that I got back when they first "bought it back". Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (w6EFb) at September 03, 2025 12:31 AM (w6EFb) 227

The funny thing about coin money is it's very different from federal reserve notes and the digital equivalent. That is created and destroyed by the Fed itself. It's central bank money. However, coin is still "direct" Treasury currency. The Treasury creates it and spends into circulation. For coin, however, the metal content means it's not free money the govt is creating. Seigniorage was traditionally the difference between metal content value and the face value. The govt. gets the difference. That is turned on its head when the metal content is less than face value. Anyway, the way new coin is generally put into circulation is through the Fed and banking system. The Treasury creates the coin and sells it to the Fed. Fed considers it an asset, and creates FRN in digital form against it, which it then puts in the US Treasury's "checking account" at the Fed. When banks need new coin, it's basically a swap. They give the Fed dollars or old coin back in return for the new coin, which balances the money supply operation. If the Fed is just exchanging old coin for new coin, the it will pay the US Treasury back in the old, worn coin, which operation demonetizes it. 'Reasoning' is different. Most people would immediately question the reasoning of a machine. Posted by: Mike Hammer, etc., etc. at September 03, 2025 01:07 AM (XeU6L) 242

A very nice lady I met in July just before Dad passed was murdered by her husband on Monday night. We had met on our city's local Facebook page when I asked for nursing/rehab homes for Dad.
She was a nurse for 18 years and was hoping we could hire her for in-home care. She was battling her own health issues as well. So sad for her kids and grandkids. She had just married this guy in April. https://tinyurl.com/FinneyMurder Posted by: Joyenz at September 03, 2025 02:22 AM (2F0/Y) 264
