From Ace's "my forever boyfriend is AI" thread of this past Friday: By now, all practicing attorneys should know that Gen AI tools sometimes "hallucinate" (a kinder, gentler way of saying fabricate or make up) non-existent opinions. Not taking the time to confirm whether cases spat out by Gen AI tools are genuine is like a law firm partner failing to check the work of a first-year associate who just passed the bar exam. How soon can we expect to hear Janet Cook blaming her two mortgage applications for residences in two different states having been declared as "primary" because they were filled out using AI? Seems we lurch from one Volvo wagon project to another..
Front end clunk has lead to new control arms and lower ball joints, with one ball joint really badly worn and slopping around. And the Volvo remanufactured left axle has slop in the inboard CV joint. AND, might as well replace the springs and struts on both front sides. So the wagon will sit in the garage while we hit the road for ten days on Wednesday morning, and parts should all be here to basically rebuild the front suspension when we return. Still, getting close to time for the timing belt, water pump and serpentine belt replacement. And the PCV system maintenance. >>Doesn't SpaceX have a contract to deorbit the iss? Would a higher orbit make it harder or easier to deorbit later?
Due to drag, they have to re-boost the thing every so often to maintain the orbit. Besides drag, there's other perturbations that come in as well. Anyway, without boosting every so often, the orbit would decay and burn up eventually. Deorbit is supposed to happen at the end of 2030. They may extend the mission. Damn thing has been up there since 1998. Well, that's when the first module was there, I think it wasn't fully complete until 2010 or so. So I may not be around for most of the Book Thread today. I celebrated by sending my oldest friend an 11" Samsung Galaxy tablet from Amazon. >> And what gives that that Atlas object. Science, but not as we know it?
It's something very different than any solar system body. It's interstellar, and likely from a very old star system, "Population II" stars which are in the thick disc of the Milky Way. According to theory of course. It's trajectory shows it coming in steep, indicating a higher z-axis (north pole of the Galaxy) range. The thing is blowing off a lot of CO2 and little water vapor. Also, lots of nickel, but no iron seen. That makes it really different. It's likely at least 7 billion years, far older than the solar system, a relic of an ancient star system of the Population II family. I have to admit ("admit," as I'm a car aficionado) that I never learned stick and never had the impulse to. Driving in a city all my life, I've never wanted the distraction of shift changes while trying to dodge people who think speed limits and lane changes are just suggestions -- if not something to be actively ignored.
My Buick Regal and the current LaCrosse have a manual shift mode, and I used them on occasion. The Regal was underpowered and I had to downshift often for more grunt on the steep-ish bridge over the river. And in '21, there were some rolling hills in the Birmingham suburbs, with beautifully smooth roads, so I did try shifting to get braking on the downslopes and acceleration on the uphill parts. Fun, but I wouldn't want to do it all the time. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at August 31, 2025 06:41 AM (omVj0) 68

Using copyrighted music in other works is a bit of a conundrum because it really only takes about 15 or so seconds to get a complete chorus out which is usually the most popular part of any song.
And since royalties are involved, which must be paid out for each play, every label and artist wants an accurate count for that check each month. Going digital and online has made it a lot easier to keep track of music. YouTube and the audio streaming services get hit the hardest because that’s where all the music is. YouTube also has a real big “Reaction” community where creators will listen to songs for the first time so their audience can watch their reactions to the music, often done by request. The labels and artists have had to crack down on it because the reactors are supposed to listen for a few seconds, then comment, then listen, then comment, rinse repeat. But the lazy ones will turn an entire album on and listen to the whole thing and barely comment. Now the bots go after every piece of music they can find and file the copyright strikes. It was bound to happen because once something's working well and starts becoming popular other people will jump in and abuse it for $. Posted by: SpeakingOf at August 31, 2025 06:49 AM (6ydKt) 73

Those are so dumb, like " A classical violinist reacts to Zappa's "Echidna's Arf" and explains the use of Mixolydian mode 7/15 time and how it compares to Schoenberg's discordant harmony in pedal depressed pan-chromatic resonance."
Posted by: fd at August 31, 2025 06:56 AM (vFG9F) Some are good though. There are quite a few voice coaches who listen and comment/critique a singers voice. Others are just cute girls or couples who have amusing reactions and charisma. I really like Aaliyah Capili who’s an opera singer in training, around 20 years old and cute as can be. Here she is reacting to Too Much Heaven by The Bee Gees: https://youtu.be/P_LQrvASUSI I’ve seen a few more of reaction videos and she’s so cute about it. Pixy, finding a good combo of bp meds can be challenging for drs and exhausting for patt.
I hope this combo works well for you. My experience is that the choice of medication within a class can also makes a difference. For example, when I was switched from an ACE (because of cough side effect) to an ARB, the first, cheaper kind of ARB didn't seem to work well. A newer ARB is working better for me. (But still also need a diuretic, and a low dose CCB, and a low dose beta blocker) Posted by: vmom deport deport deport at August 31, 2025 07:20 AM (eZ5tL) 108

Another thing that I loathe, and this is not confined to You Tube, is some jackass stating that they are about to "break down" something to explain it for you. More often than not, the "something" wasn't neither difficult nor complicated to warrant listening to your banal and trite breakdown, bub. I blame sportscasting replays for this plague. One truly low "breakdown" was some schlub whining that he lacked perspective to understand Elizabeth Berridge (playing Mozart's wife), saying to Salieri that even though their household was poor, she had no need for his proffered help in the theatrical release of "Mozart". It turned out that his beef was that Salieri had attempted to sleep with her and that scene, in which she bared her breasts, had been left on the cutting room floor. Yeah, pal, the "no titty, no likey" excuse was a pretty well worn one by then. Posted by: Krebs v Carnot: Epic Battle of the Cycling Stars(TM) - Point&Laugh! Point&Laugh! Point&Laugh! (Wikipedia) Bradley Edward Delp (June 12, 1951 – March 9, 2007) was an American musician who was the original lead singer and frontman of the rock band Boston. ...
Sometime between 11:00 pm on March 8 and 1:20 pm on March 9, 2007, Delp died by suicide from carbon monoxide poisoning in his home at 55 Academy Avenue, in Atkinson, New Hampshire. He had been having suicidal thoughts since he was a teenager. The Atkinson police discovered his body on the floor of his master bathroom. Two charcoal grills were found to have been placed in the bathtub and lit, causing the room to fill with smoke. The following day, Boston's website was replaced with a simple black background and white text message: "We've just lost the nicest guy in rock and roll."
