I blew up a paper wasp nest once. About the size of a football, on the back fence. I rolled up black powder in many, many layers of newspaper, tucking the ends in as I rolled, until I had nice big cannon cracker. Had a length of underwater fuse in it. Waited until dusk, stuffed the cracker into the hole in the base of the nest, and lit the fuse. A furious buzzing ensued, followed by an earth-shattering Kaboom! And the air was filled by a flurry of shredded newsprint, shredded wasp nest, and shredded wasp wings. Like a confetti storm, it was.

Went to the dentist as a walk-in because two molars hurt whenever I drink something hot. I thought some fillings had disintegrated.

Following an internets search, we have this headline from The Maine Wire:
"Maine Man Arrested After Trying to Run Over Border Patrol Agents Taking Illegals Into Custody"
Olivia Wilkins aka Stevie Wilkins cursed BP agents detaining two illegals, one of whom had crossed the border illegally multiple times since 2013. "She" then drove her vehicle directly towards the Border Patrol agents with the intent to harm. Following a chase by sheriff's deputies, "she" wrapped her vehicle around a tree.

Craziest place ever.

I hate yellow jackets and am allergic. One chased me inside today. Or it might have been a bee, but it got all weird with me on the deck for no reason. I am sending my faithful husband out tomorrow to see what that is about.It is my deck.
I will always remember the day Princess Diana died because I was up with icepacks, on a yellow jacket sting on my thigh. Gorked out on Benadryl and Advil.
It flew up my maxi dress and stung me on my thigh. I got it back, however, running down the hall screaming for ice, etc to my husband.
He found it concussed on the floor of our bedroom and killed it for me. I had him sleep in the guestroom in the event I died during the night and needed 911 (demonstrated stridor breathing of anaphalaxis).
I did not die but, well, Princess Di did. I woke him to tell him and he had the nerve to tell me that was really sad but he did not care.
Obviously I did not die, either.

I was on a 25 foot sailboat with my husband and son #1 in the San Juan Islands when we tuned on the radio to listen to the weather report and head Diana had died. I was sad. Consider both "yellow jackets ". The smaller, less aggressive ones that build open faced honeycomb nests are P.dominulus, the European paper wasp. The larger, more aggressive ones that make their nests in the ground are P.aurifer, the Golden paper wasp. The Golden is also a prime predator of the Anobiidae beetle family which can devastate stands of Douglas Fir. Multiple times over the last 20 years Boise Cascade and Washington DNR have dumped several million of those nasty bastards in our area. They don't announce it. We have them every year but the years when they've been dumped they were every where. Propane weed burner is a good weapon of mass destruction.

I was happy the ants killed the yellowjackets to marching music story. I also don't like fireants, when I am in the South, but have a fighting chance with them.
It could have been a bee on the deck and thirsty for my wine vs a yellow jacket. I could not tell as it got very friendly and I fled inside. It was acting peculiar and I have not been out there in a week. There could be a nest. All I wanted to do was look at my mountain and have a glass of wine. But NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Had a yellow jacket nest outside my home, and I didn't know how to get rid of them. Then one day, there was a large hole where the nest used to be, with several confused YJs stumbling around the crater. Turns out that skunks love digging into those nests at night and getting at the grubs, destroying the nest in the process. YJs that are left go someplace else.
I love skunks now.

On this current leg of the Milankovich obliquity cycle, Erf's axial tilt is decreasing, about 48 arcseconds per century now. The tilt varies from 24.5 to 22.1 degrees over a 41,000 year period. You can thank the Moon for stabilizing that. Without the Moon it would vary much greater, and chaotically.
That change in tilt has cost me 3 seconds of daylight at the summer solstice since I was born. Gain it back on the winter side though.

Without the Moon, earth's tilt would likely vary from 85 degrees to 0 over millions of years. Imagine the effect that would have on seasons.
The calculations are tricky, and chaotic, and recently that range has been dispute, it might be as low as 10 to 35 degrees. But that would still heap big mess up the seasons.

Sunset is still direct West here close to Lake George (Adirondacks), the hints are you can hear the geese getting ready to feed--they go for the corn--and the birds are just starting to flock. All is still green except the foliage does show heat stress in the maples and a bit in the oaks. Been hella hot & humid Summer thus far.

Family strife and disagreements were/are common, and presented a means of learning problem resolution and diplomacy.
Having multiple siblings taught people how to deal with peers, IMO.
Those challenges have been removed and people can't get along anymore. (simplistic, but...)

- Power up my Kindle Paperwhite to check the clock on it.
- Kindle's showing the main screen.
- Sigh. They've updated it again.
- Got to library, try to open a book.
- "The Item you were reading has been removed and is no longer available on your Kindle."
- Try another book I've already finished reading.
- "The Item you were reading has been removed and is no longer available on your Kindle."
- Grumble a bunch, throw on clothes, go downstairs to diagnose this.
- Read a bunch of help forums where way too many of the help posts are either AI generated, or idjits all following the same help script.
- Finally settle on a full factory reset of the Kindle and do that.
Spend 5 minutes getting it re-registered.
ALL downloaded books are gone (of course, it was a factory reset.)
- Download the one I was reading.
- Open it and realize all my font settings also are gone and spend a few minutes getting that back into shape.
It's now half an hour later, and I'm both completely awake and exhausted.
Could I have left this till later? Nope. Seeing your Kindle tell you your entire library has been removed is like smelling the smoke from the Great Library of Alexandria.
