There have been four mass shootings in Tim Walz's Somalia suburb of Minnesota in the past 24 hours.

"The level of gun violence across the city within the last day is deeply unsettling," the Minneapolis Police Department said in a news release. "Across three separate multiple-victim shootings, eight people have been injured by gunfire and three have lost their lives."
The attack at Annunciation Church would be the fourth deadly shooting in Minneapolis in less than 24 hours. In the most recent shooting, one man was killed and another injured at 2:08 a.m. in downtown Minneapolis.

ok catholic schools operate generally as part of the parish, adjacent or nearby the Church itself. there are Church Masses every day, so likely she just thought "Imma shoot up morning Mass" and sadly the school Mass was that morning. She probably didn't know that.

that said, we (at our parish school) had First Friday schoolwide Masses so odds are decent you'll get kids. At my daughter's school they had weekly Masses (and my sons' high school did as well).

so the kids use the Church/chapel quite a bit for their Masses

My Catholic Church, a small campus to the largest church in America but out in the boonies instead of closer to the major metro center like the main campus, always has an armed police officer at the entrance of every mass, along with his car parked out front.

As a contrast, when I went to St. John the Baptist in downtown Charleston, I don't think I ever saw an armed police officer nearby.

Our Church has security cameras on all doors (but not the windows, but this does include the side doors), and ushers who hang in the back watching them. I'm pretty sure they carry something intended to stop perps, plus a rapid response to the police (b/c here, police are well funded and yet not very busy)...this was put in after we were robbed, b/c that also happens at Churches...

We are a Christian Church with connections to other sister churches in our area as well as local and state law enforcement where we periodically (quarterly or when an incident like this occurs) to review the security, communication, and emergency operations plans and cover lessons learned.

We have security team members posted at each entrance with an LEO posted in the lobby. Two more security team members and an LEO with the pastor.

Add in that at least 50% of the congregation packs.

Not saying that this will prevent anything tragic from happening but preparation for such events will help decrease the likelihood of it happening... my two cents.

Most states have not made these types of submissions a priority. In most states, it does. One has to be an IMMINENT danger to themselves or others with clear and convincing evidence this is true. In fact, since the 70's, the overwhelming default is NOT to compel involuntary treatment and much of the treatment facilities that existed back then no longer do. Thus, mentally ill stack up in prison and jails.

Want a history lesson, read Clayton Cramer's book about his brother Ron. "My Brother Ron : a Personal and Social History of the Deinstitutionalization of the Mentally Ill"

You will find few less ardent 2A advocates than Clayton and his historical research was widely cited in courts as justification for pro 2A rulings.
