Daily Pixy News 27 August 2025

Short Form

  • Ow my feets.
  • Have a plumber here today because things don't happen when it's convenient for you.
  • Already done a battery of tests for Mystery Medical Condition because see above.
  • If you have kids or niblings, the trades are where it's at.
  • Medtech might be a more reliable job than doctor, too.
  • I have two plumbers here now. That's either good news or someone's kids are getting braces.
  • That sounded interesting. Interesting to be inside the house above when it cut loose anyway.
  • Venimus, vidimus, cloacas reseravimus.

Musical Interlude

The ending credits to the incomparable Buckaroo Banzai, of course. The entire gang shows up, even the one who died during the movie, because otherwise it wouldn't be awesome.

Disclaimer: Less worse, shall we say.

8 Sorry for the stressful situations, Pixy. Your feet hurt because of "mystery medical condition" or because you've had to go here the there to have all kinds of tests for MMC? May rough places be made smooth.

I have never seen Buckaroo Banzai. I'll have to look for that.

53 Last evening I heard by phone from my oldest friend, who lives in FL and has undergone yet another surgery. This one is for a shoulder after a neck surgery earlier this year. He's doing well, very positive about things. We talked about movies and even Trump and DeSantis (he's big on both!) for an hour.

He mentioned that he finds it tiring and painful to be on the computer for very long, sitting at a table, that is. He said he could bring the computer into the living room with a long extension cord. It occurred to me that a tablet might be a good compromise for him. Amazon has a Samsung Galaxy one with an 11" screen with multiple displays, 64 GB of storage and 8 of RAM, for about $150. I could buy one and send it to him as an "early Xmas gift." Whaddaya think?

60 Grumpy and Recalcitrant,

No, not sure what triggered it. I've been reducing but not stopping, stuff that may cause it. This is my second go around with gout this year. Had it in January. I've had it a few times over the last 10 years (2-3, maybe). So, not chronic, yet. I've added tart cherry juice to my daily routine (sugarless). It popped up as useful when I was looking at treatment options.

61 @60/Puddleglum: I keep a couple of 1kg bags of frozen cherries in the freezer for those "uhoh" moments. It's amazing how well that can stop an attack in its tracks in the "early on" phase.

66 Aside from working out, today I need to check the bank for my SS payment, get out some cash, then visit Walmart and Aldi. There are some things each one has that the other doesn't. Fortunately they are close to each other, and to where I live. A visit to a post office, to buy stamps and weigh some things I plan to sell on eBay, is also on the schedule for this week.

Friday, maybe, I'll visit the local Boot Barn and shop for a second pair of cowboy boots. The Dan Posts I have are great; perhaps a second pair in a lighter brown color? Though, if I send that tablet to my old friend, I'd be well advised to hold off on that, I think.

83 Hey you have plumbing issues? I too have plumbing issues, though fairly minor. Kitchen sink drain has started leaking. Not an emergency but I guess I'll call the plumber today. Couldn't do it yesterday, too busy with work, and like I said, not an emergency. The box of garbage bags directly below the drain was completely soaked. Also someone put paper towels on the bottom of the cabinet, which soaked up the water enough that it never leaked out of the cabinet. Probably my mom the last time she visited me.

Yeah, my doc poked at my feets to see - it was the one easily visible symptom - but her first priority that day was to get my BP down before I exploded. As of the initial prescriptions this week I'm now on a diuretic and a calcium channel blocker.

But the edema already existed - it was the reason I checked my BP in the first place.

My older brother has moderate BP issues. Not aware of anything in the previous generations of the family, which include living members over 100.

No, not sure what triggered it. I've been reducing but not stopping, stuff that may cause it. This is my second go around with gout this year. Had it in January.
