And the jist was because anxiety triggers a mental state akin to survival and all you care about is resolving whatever is triggering that anxiety.

Your body is designed to do this so you focus on the hungry animal about to attack you or the risk of drowning as the river rises or whatever, but it can trigger for way less significant and even trivial things

In the old days society tried to teach people to overcome anxiety but our modern society embraces is and tells people that not only should you not overcome it...you should be able to force others to make sure you don't feel it...even if your anxiety is something stupid.

Yep. I never talked about my personal politics on the job and taught objectively because I could always be a devil's advocate quite convincingly. Ironically, the conservative students figured out that I was one of them simply because I wasn't like the other profs and did not talk down to them while answering their comments and questions in class.

Plus, I taught 2A constitutional cases in my Con Law classes and self defense law in my Criminal law classes. I suspect that both of those facts were a dog whistle.

I started wearing glasses in 6th grade. It was the seventies and glasses were big. I hated them. My glasses have gotten smaller every time I could possibly find smaller frames. I want my glasses to be as small as possible. Unfortunately, needing bifocals means I can't wear the smallest glasses frames. Oddly enough, I wear a big watch. Not because it's easier to see, just because I like the way big watches look. I have worn mens watches for years and always get the bigger ones. Hubbymayhem wears smaller watches than I do. At one time I had a wristwatch that was about the same size as the standard pocket watch my dad carried. My dentist walked in to the exam, said hello, and then said wow that watch is huge.
Small glasses/big wristwatch is my style!

She saved my ass getting into the Army as my shitty # of credits made it look like I didn't graduate but I did, in Adult ed. Lower # required. I was very myopic for years. Wore soft contacts, or very thick glasses. Finally developed cataracts, and had the cataract surgery, and the artificial lens implants, the fixed-focus type. Now I only need glasses for very close work. I'm about 18" from the computer screen right now, and can read it with zero difficulty, even the Minx notice at the bottom.

Find an eye surgeon who can find cataracts, or consider medical tourism?
