Don't Hate The Player, Hate The Game

Despite the use of "right wing extremist" (is there EVER a mention of a "left wing extremist??) and "queerphobic", this is kind of funny.

Male-Born German Extremist Officially Changes Gender to Serve Time in Women’s Prison

doof-german-legend.jpg

Taking advantage of Germany’s “gender self-determination” reforms, a male right-wing extremist officially changed his gender to female and will serve time in a women’s prison.

In July of 2023, Marla-Svenja Liebich was sentenced by the Halle District Court in Germany’s Saxon-Anhalt state to a year and six months without parole for incitement to hatred, defamation, and insult. Interestingly, at that time, she was known as Sven Liebich and identified as a man. He appealed the original sentence and lost, but that was only the beginning of a very bizarre situation. At the end of 2024, Liebich, allegedly a member of a far-right extremist group called Blood and Honour, took advantage of Germany’s new Self-Determination Act to legally change his name to Marla-Svenja Liebich and his gender to female.

“Whether the change is serious is doubtful. Liebich has been known for years for her right-wing extremist views and has also made queerphobic statements in the past,” German newspaper Der Spiegel wrote, alleging that he had “made the change of civil status in an abusive manner in order to provoke and embarrass the state”.

Europe is stupid. I said what I said.

Government In The US Can Be Stupid Too

Eminent domain is asshoe

Eminent domain taking pushes to uproot Cape Cod couple from brand new home

Marc and Joan Hendel spent decades of savings and two years waiting for their Cape Cod home to be built.

In February, they moved into the brand new Bourne house. After years far away in Iowa, they settled into the upper Cape, close to their New England roots, their families and the beach. A “perfect, ideal place.”

Just a month later, a letter arrived taking that home away.

“On March, 3, we were delivered an eminent domain letter by MassDOT, hand delivered at our door,” said Joan Hendel. “We were shocked. We were stunned. We had no idea that this was even in the plan, or in the works, or our home could be taken after just building it.”

The Hendels are one of 13 property owners whose homes are being taken under eminent domain proceedings for the Sagamore Bridge replacement project.

The Sagamore and Bourne bridges, which are both 90-year-old federally-owned structures stretching across Cape Cod Canal, are each slated for long-planned replacements through a partnership between the Army Corps of Engineers and the state.

Check out the whole thing.

Good News Story? Or Just A Guy Being An Idiot?

Hiker rescued after being trapped for 2 days behind Sequoia National Forest waterfall

Dramatic video shows the moment a hiker trapped behind a California waterfall for two days was rescued.

The 46-year-old man from Long Beach was hiking with friends who decided to turn back, but he did not.

Search and rescue teams in Central California are calling it a stunning survival story.

The Tulare County Sheriff's Office says 46-year-old Ryan Wardell went hiking last weekend in the Sequoia National Forest with plans to rappel to the waterfalls at Seven Teacups.

Officials say Wardwell was last seen at the top of the falls, but never made it back to his car that night.

Wardwell got trapped after coming off his rappel lines and got caught in the river's hydraulics.

Days later, on Tuesday morning, a drone used by the Tulare County Sheriff's Office search teams spotted Wardwell behind one of the waterfalls.

News clip at the link. I'm torn on this. Nice that he got rescued, but he's kinda stupid for staying behind after his friends left. What say you, Hordelings?

Didn't Prohibition take effect about that time? Maybe the black inventors' sources of inspiration dried up.

Or, more likely, there had been a pent-up demand for patents by a number of black inventors, and when that bump in numbers had been cleared, it reverted to the mean.

High Cost Rail here in Calif, after decades, is once again changing its plan, and will not go to Merced... even though they have used eminent domain both in court, and to threaten, Landowners into giving up land on that route.

75 Here's another little eminent domain story that you might find interesting.

You know that high speed rail project in California that has spent over $10 Billion (and acquired another $14 Billion)? Well, I did a little research last night and found out that there have been nearly 600 properties notified that eminent domain was being applied to acquire private properties (including no small amount of generational farms). This started in 2013 and continues to this day.

Now, I'm willing to make a bet. When the high speed rail project is finally put to rest, and California is sitting there holding all this prime real estate, I'll bet that the names of the parties they sell it to will match up with the same names that come in and buy up all the Palisade properties.

I really do think someone needs to require politicians to be 100% transparent on finances. I have a hard time believing that kickbacks aren't the primary motivators for most of their projects.

120 Dire Straits taught my son a valuable lesson: given the chance and the means, people cheat. "Fair" is intellectual concept, but rare in reality.
He and a buddy stood in line for 30 hours for front row tickets to a Dire Straits concert. IIRC, he was 15. They get the tickets, close to center, front row. Concert day, they get there an hour early, get seated in the front row seats. 15 minutes before the concert starts, out comes a crew with folding seats, lines up 2 rows in front of them, which are then occupied by "VIPs" with backstage passes around their necks. The clowns in those seats were up and down all night, loud conversations, etc. Son said he would have been better off 5 or 10 rows back.

Saw Amy Winehouse at Joe's Pub in 2007. One of the best shows I'd ever seen. You just knew she was going to be big from the moment she belted out her first song. I was a Joss Stone fan at the time, but Amy left her in the dust. Still like Stone, however.

The first two Greatest Hits albums I ever purchased were Steely Dan's and Elvis Costello's. Both were amazing. Declan has terrible politics, but he's a great musician. He won the jackpot in marrying Diana Krall as well. Lucky duck.

156 The mystery click... what can be said? One of the greatest albums of all time.

I first started really listening to this album in the spring of 84. I was away at school. My roommate and I both discovered this album and played it nonstop (funnily enough, i graduated with Chris Wray that spring... My roommate went on to be a big lib, as did most of my classmates)

I recently bought all of Dire Straits' studio albums on CD. They are absolutely sublime.

The dems and the mainstream media, because of their constant drumming of "Trump is worse than Hitler!!!" has turned half of the entire populace against the other half. In days past the differences may have been negligible, but today they are worth ending a lifetime relationship over.

It occurred to me that Zevon was a punk rocker... VERY counter-culture. His overarching themes would have fit in with The Clash or The Ramones effortlessly, even though his sound is not the classic "punk" sound.

The highlight was one of the YouTube comments which simply said "End the Fed"

Warren spoke to spirits very kindred to our own.

229 On the vehicle front, I am finally done with the motor mount sag on the Suburban. New mounts are all installed, cinched down, and snubber chains rigged to restrain the engine from thrashing around if the rubber delaminates. And will supply enough restraint, hopefully, that the rubber mounts won't get stressed enough in tension to begin the delaminate.

And...I figured out why I needed to do this. The left side inboard frame outrigger which supports the engine mount on its top side, and the front differential on its bottom side, is bent down about a half inch. The differential is sitting canted a little, too. I never really noticed it before, because I really had no expectation of seeing it level. Now that I see it, I can't unsee it. I have no clue how it came to be bent in such a way. I do know that to straighten it would take a big frame machine. Given that it drove just fine in any case, my home-made mounts are as good a fix as any I can do. The engine/transmission/transfer case assembly is in, and solidly secured, and that's where it's going to stay. I have moved on to the rest of install tasks.

Much of what the Fed did during the Crisis of '08 was clear-cut violations of the Federal Reserve Act. Main one was buying up the MBS dogshit. The swaplines with the other major central banks were quite questionable legally as well.

The federal courts pretty much defer to the Fed. "This monetary policy stuff is way outside of our wheelhouse, so we let them do whatever the fuck they want."

256 And...I figured out why I needed to do this.

I am happy with my solution for this problem. I expect the truck will drive fine, as it did before the engine and transmission crapped out.

What would be really cool is to have a probe make a close flyby and see this thing up close. Even better would be to get a sample of it and bring it back. This thing is likely far older than the solar system by billions of years. It could be as old as the Milky Way itself, some relic of the very earliest stars that formed. Having of piece of that material to analyze completely would be amazing.

However, catching that thing now would require more delta-v than any rocket we have.

There are some mission proposals to have some probes in sort of a ring in heliocentric orbit, ready to maneuver for flyby for the next such wanderer that comes in.

5 degrees is close enough for Avi Loeb. His other points, are in came in from the backside of the "Sol's Way", the direction the Sun is moving through the Galaxy, the close approach to Jupiter and Mars, and Venus.

The big suspicious thing to Avi is that perihelion will be behind the Sun relative to us, so we can't see it. The perfect time to execute a sneaky orbital insertion maneuver. Slow down and whip around and put yourself on a course toward earth. That would be retrograde, coming right toward us very fast, giving us little time to react. :-)

Ooooh. There's the Juno probe around Jupiter. It still has enough fuel. There's a proposal to repurpose it for a flyby of 3I/Atlas. That would men abandoning the current Jupiter mission for this sole purpose of getting close to 3I/Atlas.

They may do it.

I have tried mightily to keep track of the Mariners this season, in deference to my location and my sister's predilection for them, but honestly, they list AK as "in market" and won't show the damned games. Like I'm gonna just fly three hours down to see a game and fly back that evening. Yeah. That's the ticket.

If they want to sell the merch, they need to be available to the folks.

I guess I'll stick with the Brewers this year. It appears Ueck is looking down and orchestrating a fine run a the World Series. At long last. God Bless him.

Hell, just reading, Juno's official end of mission is in September, and, unless it got a mission extension (and funding), they were planning on crashing it into Jupiter at the end of Sept anyway.

So hell yeah, use it to intercept the damn thing. There's some question if the old engine could still relight and make the maneuver (perfectly timed slingshot out of Jovian orbit, after plane adjustments), but it should have enough fuel.

The big political thing is Avi Loeb himself is proposing doing this, and they may oppose it just to spite him due to the "I'm not saying it's aliens, but it's aliens" stuff.

Juno's main engine hasn't been fired since 2016, over 9 years ago. But it should have just enough fuel. About 2.4 km/s delta-v is needed. Maneuver would have to be precise. Adjust the orbital plane, then lower perijove at just the right time. At perijove, fire that main engine wide open and burn all the fuel left.

If it works, you get Juno on a trajectory to pass right by 3I/Atlas at its closest approach to Jupiter. Relative velocity would be high, but you'd get close.

This is a once in a no-telling how many lifetimes opportunity to probe an ancient relic of the galaxy.

322 You know, had I realized 3 or 4 days ago, that the frame inrigger on the 'burb was bent, I could have just assembled the new stock-type motor mount to the left side of the engine, and left it unfastened to the frame. Jack the engine up until it was level, and find a suitable shim to fill the gap. Maybe a slab of aluminum or steel a half-inch thick would have done it. Drill and tap holes for bolts coming up through frame from below, and down through the mount clamshell from the top, and Bob's your uncle.

Oh well. It would have been just my luck that the bolt holes top and bottom would overlap a little, anyway. Not going to rethink it now. What I have built should work, and even looks good.

And it's past midnight, and I need to sleep. Night, Horde.

326 I saw Rob Halford do a set with Black Sabbath in 2004. Ozzy was unable to perform for whatever reason (ha). Sharon Osbourne called Halford, who had already done a set earlier that day with Judas Priest (this was the Ozzfest tour). Halford came back to the venue from his hotel and did a truncated Sabbath set. I was disappointed not to see Ozzy, but I admired Halford for his effort.

I saw a reference to Iron Maiden up above. I liked them until they began to turn into the metal version of Rush. I moved on to Metallica and Slayer, lol.

The Moon's orbit is a complex, many splendored thing. Due to tidal interaction, the Moon's long term semi-major axis is slowly receding, somewhere around 3.2 cm/yr or something like that. And gradually slowly the earth's rotation down.

However, that's a long term average. Over shorter time scales, due to all the perturbations, the Moon's semi-major axis varies, bouncing up and down.

Over 6000 years, from 3000BC to 3000AD, there's a plot of the range of perigee and apogee variation, showing the extremes.

From Meeus, using a time range of 1500BC to 8000AD, we have the following extremes. Closest perigee was 356 352.93 km on November 13, 1054 BC (Julian) and the farthest apogee will be 406 719.97 km on January 7, 2266 AD (Gregorian). That's over 9500 years.
