Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | It’s Not Just the Logo - Cracker Barrel Has Been Chosen as the Latest Boycott Target to Send a Message to Woke Corporations![]() I have twice written about Cracker Barrel’s offensive activism. In June 2023 I wrote about a growing disgust with Cracker Barrel’s promotion of the LGBT agenda, stating that “When I want a catfish dinner and some old time candy, I could not possibly care less about the sexual behaviors of the restaurant’s staff or patrons. I’d be grossed out if Cracker Barrel was devoting a month to celebrating heterosexual sex.” In May of 2024, with Julie Masino plowing full speed ahead with the re-making of Cracker Barrel into a place where Seattle leftists would want to dine, I wrote:In June of 2023 Cracker Barrel went woke, deciding that it could bring in new customers and investors by sexualizing the front porch with rainbow-striped rocking chairs. As it turned out, that was not a good marketing strategy, and it had the effect of repulsing existing customers who don’t want country cooking to be sexualized, be it gay, straight, or otherwise.Cracker Barrel had implicitly smeared its existing customers, touting how it is becoming more “welcoming” by slathering rocking chairs with rainbows, and sponsoring pride events. About this I wrote: I have been to Cracker Barrel with gay relatives. They did not feel unwelcome. Sexualizing the place does not make it any more welcoming. I’m straight, but I don’t need cleavage or tight outfits on waitresses to make me feel welcome. I would be just as disgusted if Cracker Barrel had decided to become a Hee Haw Hooters in order to attract more straight men. With the recent brouhaha, in addition to the logo change removing any “country” imagery, Ms. Masino is also changing the restaurant’s interior design from the warmth and comfort of “Gramma’s parlor” to cold and austere. Seattle hipsters would love it. Cracker Barrel’s customers hate it. Cracker Barrel’s Board of Directors have a crisis on their hands. They can fire Masino, apologize for the woke activism, and return to a focus on excellent country cooking (which has also suffered.) If not, the company can expect to go the way of Bud Light and never recover. Imagine a candidate who refused to condemn lynchings. He’d be ostracized on the spot — and rightfully so. But Mamdani cannot bring himself to denounce the murder of Jewish women and children — and Democrat leaders can’t bring themselves to denounce him either. The piece is behind a paywall, but if you’re a Blaze subscriber, I’d be honored if you’d give it a read.

Robby Starbuck @robbystarbuck Cracker Barrel has been one of the most loved brands in America for decades... That changed this week with a logo redesign that infuriated the public but... the problem goes MUCH deeper than a logo. @CrackerBarrel has gone fully woke and now it’s time to expose everything. The new CB logo is ugly. It barely qualifies as a "logo." Just an ugly font spelling out the name on an ugly yellow-orange background. The background color looks like snot. How much did they spend on this?
Rebrands are popular for some reason. Bentley changed its flying "B" logo from a distinctive wingspan to a ... less distinctive wingspan. Why? Nobody knows. Lamborghini changed its logo a few years ago from a raging bull to a .. raging bull. Even fans had a hard time telling the difference. If you look very close, the bull now looks more like an icon than an actual bull. The change was supposedly done in part to communicate that the cars themselves were evolving in a new direction (which they were). Kia changed its logo a few years ago from a recognizable "KIA" roundel to a ... weird-looking modern-art interpretation of "KIA." Toyota changed it's logo years ago to a ... mess. Does any of this matter? I highly doubt it. While it certainly makes piles of money for marketing firms, I doubt actual customers care or even notice. People buy exotics in part because they want the logo on the hood of the car. They don't care what the logo looks like. Posted by: Elric The Blade at August 25, 2025 11:07 AM (iFTx/) 14

The thing about both the Budweiser and Cracker Barrel examples is that neither one is actually a boycott. Budweiser lost brand capital. Marketing execs wanted to expand the brand beyond just the frat boys and good ol' boys who were drinking the beer in volume because it was cheap. That's a fine enough goal, but they did it by making their brand look uncool to those key demographics. The frat guys and good ol' boys didn't want to be seen drinking the tranny beer, and there were plenty of cheap alternatives. That's not a boycott, it's just brand destruction.
Same with Cracker Barrel. Affluent White Female Liberals have decided that anything old-timey and southern equates to racism, because slavery is literally the only thing they know about the old south, like a word association game for the uncultured. But without the old-time country aesthetic, what's even the point of Cracker Barrel? You don't need a boycott when there's no reason for customers to even go there. Off-topic but for some reason I was thinking that I hope Trump's Presidential Medals of Freedom include people like Robbie Starbuck, Chris Rufo - and some of the prominent non-mainstream types who were the real "journalists" on things like RUSSIA! and COVID.
And one more - Rodney Smith, the guy who founded the "50 Lawn Challenge" project to get young people to mow lawns for disabled, elderly, vets, et al as a character-building thing. In other words, people who most have never heard of - but who have made real contributions to civic health in what has largely been a dark period for same. Cracker Barrel is also something of an symbol, and icon if you will for a certain demographic... white southerners. Mostly who lean right. They're pissed about the makeover. But they're equally (or more) pissed off about the symbology being taken from them.
It's not about the food, the décor or any of that stuff... not to the customers. It's about a symbol of their heritage being taken and made into something that bastardizes their very existence. The "pride porch" makeover... painting the ubiquitous white and black rocking chairs rainbow colors was a clue what was coming. Posted by: Martini Farmer at August 25, 2025 11:21 AM (Q4IgG) 80

How long will it take for corporate execs to learn "go woke, go broke"?
Posted by: proudvastrightwingguy at August 25, 2025 11:08 AM I have long believed that these corporate execs over the past 10-15 years know exactly what they are doing. They are deliberately choosing conservative values American companies and changing them to radical left values companies. If it works, great. If it doesn't, they still have destroyed a conservative values American company. Win-win. As Formerly Virginian stated earlier: WHEREVER they are, they will use their position to promote their religion. They especially love to weasel into businesses, franchises, and nonprofits opposed to them. There, they will either turn the enterprise to promoting their religion or burn it to the ground. Either is a win for them. Posted by: Formerly Virginian at August 25, 2025 11:04 AM Posted by: Clyde Shelton at August 25, 2025 11:21 AM (P5BPp) 82
Although it's tempting to consider the CB rebrand as similar to the Butt Like rebrand, the two are actually very different. Yes, both were the result of leftwing AWFL idiots vomiting on the brands' core customers.
But Butt Like was still a strong, profitable brand at the time they brought in that twerp faggot. It was not in any financial or other danger. The rebrand wasn't done out of desperation. It was done as part of an insane plan to try to appeal to new, younger, more liberal drinkers. Of course it failed, but it wasn't a Hail Mary. CB is a Hail Mary. The company is in deep shit. I personally think the company is done, and this is an example of "Go Broke, Get Woke" as a last-ditch effort to try to gain some woke cred as the company sinks into the tar pits. Instead of disbursing it via the Dept. of Commerce, in individual grants, they set up a brand new NGO, stuffed it with Biden staffers and allies and tried to send $7.4 billion there. When a company insists on making it plain that they despise me or people I treasure like my dad or my conservative neighbors I simply stop buying from them if its at all feasible. I won't buy and PG products anymore (I used to buy Tide because its $$ but it works well) but I just added oxyclean to my laundry for years and then I stumbled on Purex which also works well. I don't buy Crest, I used to buy whatever toothpaste was on sale, but now they could have Crest at buy 1, get 2 free and I still won't buy it. I won't buy any InBev? Additionally, Cracker Barrel corporate is pushing the whole DEI mess. There are completely separate issues (the rebranding itself isn't "woke", it's just dumb). Pretty sure I'd read that at least one of the CB board of directors already was woke-aligned and that's how they got that CEO in the first place.
And I'm sure that at a few of these other companies, that's where it started. From Chick-fil-A to Disney, sometimes the woke takeover is bottom-up, sometimes top-down. And this is a very interesting contrast with Buck Throckmorton's piece at Blaze media about how modern day C-Suite private equity driven M&A practices are also gutting the value and quality of America's products. And both of these on the for-profit AND non-profit side. America's really burning the candle at both ends. Thank goodness we have DJT back in the White House and I pray MAGA continues to overwhelm the other wings of the party, and keeps Congress and the White House the next few elections. For decades, America's corrupt political class was able to stay in power without being the cause of too much sh*t outside of a few urban cores. Then the Obama/Biden Admins came along. Hey RINOs you want back in power? First you gotta help MAGA fix what Obama, Biden and Pelosi broke in the last two decades. Posted by: geewhiz at August 25, 2025 11:31 AM (wn50e) 127

Sadly, you can add Chip and Joanna Gaines to the Gay Boycott Brigade. After launching a new frontier reality show with a gay couple and their two boys, and -- more importantly -- offering a tone-deaf defense to Christians who questioned their motives, the Gainses have now backed a hyper-gay roller skating contest show on their network. The show features none other than the supremely queer Jonny Weir as a judge.

Rebrands are popular for some reason.
--- It appeals to the middle-management class that inevitably captures any corporation. Those mediocrities that never worked the floor, producing the core product of the entity. The very risk averse that have spent their whole career doing ... nothing. But promotions put them at the top. They know nothing of the product, nothing of the customer--only numbers and risk. A logo redesign is a low-risk move to generate "buzz." Perfect for do-nothings. Another example is Apple. Which went from caring about new, innovative products to caring about shareholder value. Billions for stock buybacks; nothing for R&D. And now they are losing both. Posted by: People's Hippo Voice at August 25, 2025 11:37 AM (HuNM+) 162

They replace most of upper management with people they already know, with no loyalty or history with the new company, and they try to remake the company in their own image. The New York Times, August 19, 2025 - 'At Hamptons Fund-Raiser, Cuomo Predicts Help From Trump Is on the Way' Andrew M. Cuomo, who trails in the polls for New York City mayor, is said to have told a crowd of donors that he believed President Trump would help smooth his path to victory.
---- Cuomo should be forgiven - just in example - for the C19 debacles, how many deaths, how much wasted time & money, his all in 'game' participation and so much more? Yeah, a devil and the deep blue sea choice for the city. It's theirs. And, no, I'm calling complete and total bullshIt that Cuomo is now a full blown Trumpist. Speaking of the vegan restaurant, apparently there was a successful one in New York called "Pure." The chef/owner produced a cookbook that I'm curious about. The restaurant went down in flames because of weird financial and other scandalous stuff that got made into one of our current documentaries available for streaming.

The Order directs the Attorney General to submit a list of States and local jurisdictions with cashless bail policies. The Order instructs the Administration to identify Federal funds currently provided to cashless bail jurisdictions that may be suspended or terminated. The CEO's response was to increase the number of Board members to 11 people, and the new Board Members brought in after the CEO's arrival were almost all women and minorities.

Making logos simple and "flat" is designed to make them easier to see and recognize on phone apps and small screens.
Which is funny because phone screens got high-DPI faster than most of these rebrands happened. Posted by: Ian S. at August 25, 2025 12:26 PM (2ocoG) 363

The days of starting in the mailroom and working your way up to CEO are over, now they're all 'contract' CEOs that jump from company to company getting small short term gains and leaving trails of long-term insolvency behind them.
It's the latest crap in corporations hiring contract CEOs that have not previously worked for the company, have zero loyalty to the company, and have zero idea what the company's customers want. They just regurgitate the shit that they learned at their far-left business schools: 'Hire consultants' (because you're too stupid and disconnected to have any idea what the brand's customers want, and you don't consume the product your company makes) 'Rebrand to simplicity' (eliminate any actual uniqueness and make it generic modernslop) 'Expand your customer base' (by pushing DEI crap that has never expanded anything anywhere ever) 'Objections are just a vocal minority' (who cares if the customers object by the time the business craters your contract is over anyway) Posted by: DudeAbiding at August 25, 2025 12:27 PM (setIA) 365
The destruction of CB is deliberate. Most of those restaurants are on highly visible and accessible locations and somebody wants them. Destroy the company and get those valuable assets at fire-sale prices and Bob's your uncle.

Edwards gave me my favorite political quote when he said, in response to a reporter's question at a live news conference if the allegations against him would get him out of the governors office, "The only way they will get me out of office is to catch me in bed with a young man or a dead woman, next question." Only in Louisiana.

...and they had carnitas which are pork, so I guess #2 is also gone, or did they have another pork item?
Posted by: Nova Local at August 25, 2025 12:06 PM Grok: Chipotle did not discontinue pork due to global warming. They temporarily suspended serving carnitas (pork) in about 600 stores in 2015 after a routine audit found a major supplier failed to meet their animal welfare standards, specifically regarding antibiotics and humane treatment. This caused a shortfall in responsibly raised pork, leading to the temporary removal. Carnitas have since been reinstated in most locations. There’s no evidence linking the decision directly to global warming, though Chipotle has noted in SEC filings that climate change could impact ingredient availability and prices, like avocados, beef, and pork, due to weather volatility. I think he made an odiously creepy advertisement that had white people (including white cops) washing the feet of filthy criminals. It made me retch.
Posted by: Elric The Blade at August 25, 2025 12:11 PM Via Grok: In June 2020, during a roundtable discussion at Passion City Church in Atlanta, Chick-fil-A CEO Dan Cathy spoke about addressing racial injustice. He referenced a story about a young man shining an older Black man's shoes as an act of humility and conviction against racism. Cathy then shined the shoes of Lecrae, a Black Christian rapper, during the event, framing it as a symbolic gesture of contrition for racial injustices. He said, “I invite folks to put some words to action here, and if we need to find somebody who needs to have their shoes shined, we need to just go right on over and shine their shoes,” emphasizing humility and action. Some interpreted this as Cathy suggesting all white people should shine Black people’s shoes to atone for racism, leading to backlash, particularly among conservative commentators in 2023 when the video resurfaced amid criticism of Chick-fil-A’s DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) initiatives. even before the changing logo fiasco my last trip to Cracker Barrel was to celebrate my pastor's birthday around 20 July. we had to wait 45 minutes for a table for 5 on a Sunday afternoon at 3:30 after the church families went home
then as we sat down we were talking for another 30 minutes before the excellent service began from a kind lady who got us our food quickly. this terrible experience had soured me from wanting to return. they should work on THAT and not spitting in the face of the public Posted by: paulnjax at August 25, 2025 01:30 PM (yuHnF) 377
