Just reading on what Bolton apparently did. Before Trump fired him during the first term, he was apparently emailing classified material to his family member's private email accounts. There was an investigation of this that started then, but the Biden admin shut it down. Bondi and Kash revived it, and this is the result. rare earth (also rare earth element or rare earth metal) noun Chemistry any of a group of chemically similar metallic elements comprising the lanthanide series and (usually) scandium and yttrium. I wandered down to Best buy to check out the new Samsung Fold 7. They finally figured out how to make a brilliant well executed folding phone. Each half are thin enough that it's barely thicker than a typical slab phone and when folded. When folded it has the same overall size has a slab phone. When unfolded, it's an 8"x8" tablet. Just fussing with what I could the software seems to be well executed.
Samsung claims It can last 500,000 folds. On the other hand some of a guy had it fail after opening and closing it 200,000 times by hand. The real problem is dust and dirt getting into the hinge and causing it to croak. That is, unless you scratch the screen too hard with your thumbnail and blitz the screen. Did I mention it is $2,000 US? That is like $3,000 AUD. Little known fact, Australian dollars are thinner than American dollars and it takes 3 of them to equal 2 us once in weight which is why everything costs more in Australia. Another reason to go on living: Stacey Abrams has joined the ranks of Cast-off Liberals Now Doing Podcasts. And I don't know what the difference is between a podcast and a YouTube channel anymore. I'm watching one where she's got her finger on her mouse obviously scrolling through her intro as she delivers it. The insufferable Ezra Klein is her guest. I can't see paying lots of money for a phone that could literally be destroyed any day.
Posted by: Skip That's my thinking in addition to the cost. Still, it's a very interesting piece of technology and the progress being made with these folding phones is remarkable. If they can solve the soft inner screen problem and still get it to fold without shattering, well that would be remarkable. The new Google Pixel 10 fold seems to be on par with the Samsung fold 7 with the additional bonus that it is rated IP68. That is the first time a folding phone has had water and dust rating. Well sort of, the fine says it very likely will not last the life of the phone. The degree of difficulty is Google will not tell you how long it they expect the ip68 to last. If these designs ever get these problems solved and get the cost down by at least half, which is unlikely because of the additional complexity and extra bits, I'd be interested in one. A phone costing $2000 --!!!???
If it doesn't change the oil in my car, feed the cats, and clean my apartment for me, it's not even on my radar. Come to think of it, it would be off my radar even if it did those things. I can do the cleaning for free, a can of cat food runs .78, and two oil changes a year cost me $100. I'm quite pleased with the $35 Galaxy I bought last year or in '23. I'm not tethered to the thing; I leave it in the car when I go to the library, and only bring it along so I'll have it in an emergency. Recognizing that Govt grants are a form of picking corporate winners, the same can hold true for Govt purchases of corporate stock. Similarly, since a grant is a cash infusion, it's less likely that the Govt will dictate corporate policy going forward than if it held a large on-going investment position. Of course, a good investment can handsomely reward the American people.

Bolton is a solid neo-conservative, and has been since W.
He’s a warmonger, and I don’t say that lightly. So when Trump picked him as NSA during his first term, I scratched my head on why the peace seeker chose him. Bolton, at that time, was regularly on-air on cable news defending Trump so maybe Trump picked him for that reason and to make North Korean & Iranian leaders a little more nervous at having a cannon advising a loose-cannon. It was about a year or so in when Bolton was drumming up a war in Venezuela to remove Maduro and replace him with the guy who really won the election. Trump fired him within a few months after that. @36/IRONGRAMPA: "I have issues with flat phones that have functions built into the sides in that I cannot pick up and hold one without changing a screen or some function. I realize that I'm doing something, but just can't stop squeezing the stupid things."
I have this problem also. Mine has a button called the "custom key" which you can set to do different things based on the type of press (single click, double click, press-and-hold.) I set mine to "none" for all three, and now when I accidentally press this button, the phone brings up the configuration for the button again. There needs to be a "Do nothing" option, which is what I really wanted. I eventually set it load the calculator program because at least that's an occasionally desired program to run that has some use, and it's easy to close and get out of the way. It also inspires less rage in me about poorly designed user interfaces. The number of times I press this button accidentally is kinda ridiculous. "When Tesla first released the refreshed “Highland” Model 3 in China in 2023, and later globally in 2024, the electric sedan featured several design tweaks and an additional touchscreen for rear passengers. However, the most controversial change was the removal of the turn signal and drive stalks. Instead, Tesla opted to move these controls to steering wheel buttons and the center touchscreen, a decision seemingly inspired by the company’s vision of a future dominated by autonomous vehicles."

Posted by: Skip at August 23, 2025 07:23 AM (+qU29) Nah, you hit the turn signal button on the touchscreen in the car. Stupid idea but apparently it saved Tesla $348 per car. And it looks “clean & futuristic”. If you wanted that, Elon, you should have put gull-wing doors on it and made flight an optional add-on. One of the very nice things about the Agricultural 4-H Fair is all the parents with their cute kids, and also that some people wear shirts with religious or patriotic sayings. Overwhelmed does t begin to describe the way I’m feeling right now, Fen & the rest of you.
My father’s lung cancer has returned and because he’s basically willed it to happen anyway due to missing my mother, he’s decided on no treatment and he’s now in hospice at home. They just brought him home from the hospital yesterday. This will be some of the most difficult months in my life, and I’ve had some doozies in the past. I feel like a nervous wreck and a lost kid at the same time. Worried and fearful and heartbroken is a spirit crusher. Prayers are nice, maybe God will have some mercy on what’s left of my family and I can come out stronger on the other side. @111/NaCly Dog: "Going to resign. Best this way. I need to focus on my health."
I'd ask that you keep your cards close to your chest until after November's medical evaluation and hopefully clearance to have your DL re-activated and re-issued to you. You might change your mind. If you're having problems with that supervisor, other drivers might be as well. Supervisors that are the source of internal company strife tend to only last so long before they're fired. Also, you could request a different supervisor as a condition of coming back. Remember, your company is (as pretty much all bus companies are) desperate for drivers even if they're not letting on that they are. If your request (and presentation thereof) is calm, polite, and reasonable, they'll be more likely to agree to it. Just some thoughts. At the end of the day though, if you honestly think that bus driving is bad for your health overall, then let it go and take care of yourself. I'm glad you indicated you'll be okay. :-) Posted by: Grumpy and Recalcitrant at August 23, 2025 07:44 AM (O7YUW) 138

@141/NaCly Dog: "I can return to work after I retire, the need is so great."
Indeed. In that case, leave on a high note with your resignation letter talking about the good times you had driving, and that you enjoyed your work, and thank them for the opportunities they gave you. So few think to thank their employer for the work they provided that it will make a seriously positive impression on them. It will also soften them up quite a bit if you, during the "possibly returning" talks in the future, ask for a different supervisor. Now, many would say that this is an unacceptable entanglement of business and government.
I would point out that, unlike the current situation, if the Chinese or other entities tried to take control of the company, the only remedy the president would have is to pass a bill - which, if Dems control even ONE of the houses, or have enough influence to block it - would not work. By owning a significant part of a vital component of our economy, the government would have a DIRECT way of stopping foreign interference.
