I broke rule 1- attacking vulnerable or marginalized people. I appealed by saying legal immigrants from any nation can stay, and I'm not targeting any race or ethnicity because all illegals need to go.

I spoke reality and common sense, though, so I don't like my odds.

This got the Woko Haram member upset... "Evil White Man Colonist Poopyhead point of view, not the way the peace-loving shiny rainbow aborigines viewed their sacred land, blah-blah-blah", you know the drill.

Some Aussies pointed out that the aborigines also avoided the areas marked as "worthless", only crossing them when forced, and then crossing as quickly as possible. They didn't live there.

As everyone here knows I live in an area full of 29 year olds. One of the Eucharistic Ministers at my Parish has Parkinson's (no giggles please) and she fumbled the Host once for me. The other EM executed a diving catch more violent and quick than Franco Harris during his Immaculate Reception to catch the Host before it touched the floor.

She caught it too!

Severe drought here in SW Wyoming. Strict water restrictions, the town has removed all the hanging baskets along Main Street and any other plants requiring water.

I'm up most of the night and I sit out on the patio during the night. It's interesting hearing the neighbors sneaking out around 1 am so they can water their grass.

We might not have drinking water soon, it's that dire, but they will have green grass.

What you have to understand about this place is that since meet-ups started happening, some people are considered full members and the rest are less than. There's a whole hierarchy of importance that some of the long-term COBs (one in particular) love enforcing. It's petty and stupid. But in the end ace is the one on the masthead, and he's responsible for deferring to this kind of pettiness.

125 One thing I learned about turfgrass, bluegrass especially. Either water it, constantly, or don’t.

It will go dormant in summer, in drought. Want to keep traffic off of it, but it will be just fine. This has the added bonus - you don’t have to mow it in the hottest part of the year ;

Now the windup is, you can’t bring a lawn out of dormancy by irrigation and then change your mind. That will shock it enough to kill the roots and everything. Just let it go in the summer. When rains return in the fall it will green back up.

183 91 For Catholics, even the tiniest particle contains the whole of the Body and Blood of Christ. Which is why the Eucharist must be treated with such care.
Posted by: Hadrian the Seventh

As everyone here knows I live in an area full of 29 year olds. One of the Eucharistic Ministers at my Parish has Parkinson's (no giggles please) and she fumbled the Host once for me. The other EM executed a diving catch more violent and quick than Franco Harris during his Immaculate Reception to catch the Host before it touched the floor.

She caught it too!

Posted by: Tonypete at August 22, 2025 10:52 PM (cYBz/)

I deeply appreciate the Catholic defense of the faith: I think it's an area we Protestants need to improve in. I think one of the commenters linked an article about members of the Church who went to the satanic mass abomination and were ready - one man knocked the Host out of the hand of the evil priest while another caught it and ate it before it hit the ground. That kind of seriousness of Christ's church is inspiring.

Do customers make decisions on how the business is run? Obviously if the CEO is a woketard and shits all over those customers by changing everything they like about that business starting with the logo, enough of them may decide to go elsewhere and thereby *influence* future decisions. But what does that have to do with someone whining about meetups? and more to the point, do you think anyone but Ace should be the final decision maker on who is on a list?

Hawaii's Kilauea volcano resumed erupting Friday by shooting an arc of lava 100 feet (30 meters) into the air and across a section of its summit crater floor.

It was Kilauea's 31st display of molten rock since December, an appropriately high frequency for one of the world's most active volcanoes.

The north vent at the summit crater began continuously spattering in the morning, and then lava overflowed a few hours later. The vent started shooting lava fountains in the afternoon.

I have about 3/4 maybe 1 acre of grass. The dude before me was a friend of mine, and never did shit with it, just cut it. No seed, no fertilizer, nothing. Just cut it. I asked him if he ever did anything. He says nah, country yard. I figured ok, lets get a lawn service to do all the chemicals. Poof, 3/4 of what "looked" like lawn vanished and I was left with dirt. It took about 2 years of seeding, along with all the rain we had to finally turn into something nicer than what I started with. Never doing that again though. Hell no. Like my friend did, it just gets cut.

And the left side of the damned engine is still an inch low. The mounting boss for the T-case shift motor is kissing the crossmember. Bottom line: new motor mounts did jack shit to get the engine sitting level.

I think I am going to go nuclear on this thing. Shitcan the damfool lawyer-designed motor mounts, and install a pair of the old-style Chebby mounts that were used for decades under
SBC's. I have two NOS ones in a box. Bolt them to the engine block, and make up a pair of pedestals to bolt to the frame. Make the driver's side pedestal so it can telescope, set it in there, jack the engine level, and tack-weld the sucker, then take it out and weld securely. I can even put in a length of chain to keep the engine from rolling over if the driver's side mount should fail in tension.

The thing the climate scientologists don't want people to remember is that if it's abnormally hot one place it's abnormally cold someplace else. The overall temperature of the Earth actually stays pretty steady.

248 I have about 3/4 maybe 1 acre of grass.
Posted by: Berserker-Dragonheads Division

1 acre I cut, 1 acre doesn't get touched and 10 more that the cows mow. The one acre I do cut?
It's still pretty much pasture land. If we need to drive the truck & trailer, atv or the tractor on it, no big deal. It was all pasture before they built our house.

THis year was funny here. We went from setting/tying a few hot summer records to breaking cool summer records in about 2 days at the beginning of August. GSP set the 90F+ consecutive days record at 42 compared to the old record of 38 in 1993. But we'll come nowhere near the total 90F+ number of days in year. GSP set a couple of daily highest lows, and set a high.

Then, thanks to a strong cold air damming system, they then set a few lowest highs for 2 or 3 days straight, breaking records set in 1908.

Speaking of registering complaints. The NWS forecast office websites all look the same. At first. There's some national template they uses. But get to clicking on the details, and each office does things very differently.

That SF office was nothing like GSP. But then, I figured out a little more of what was what, and I like their layout better than GSP's. They did hide the airport observation list, but I found it. But I actually like their main observations page better than GSP. It's a map where you click on the stations which pops up a little box with a summary.

I could well be mistaking *this* commenter for another, but I don't have a way to *know* if it's a sock or a brand-new nic. The original comment included "... some of the long-term COBs (one in particular) love enforcing. It's petty and stupid. But in the end ace is the one on the masthead, and he's responsible for deferring to this kind of pettiness." That seems rather direct, and then later "CBD apparently is the one really behind these decisions (he certainly is the one who urged Vic be kept off the departed list)." Maybe I missed some comments on the blog to this effect? It's the first time I've heard this claim.

312 My local Sam's Club got rid of the "food" court cash registers. To buy a hot dog you have to use the Sam's Club app and use a debit/credit card. To order a $1.50 hot dog, I had to download their stupid app, login into the app, spend 20 minutes trying to figure how to order the hotdog, add it to my shopping cart, check out (heaven forbid you have to enter CC number), wait for the confirmation email/text message, go stand in line for another 20 minutes listening to everybody bitch and moan about this, and if your unlucky you will hear they ran out of hot dogs and it will be another 20 minutes until they are ready.

For Christmas I'm asking Santa Claus for a Costco in Las Cruces to open up.

318 267 Son drives a lot for his kob and his car is getting on a bit, so he is debating alternatives.

Trade in his car and buy a newish car and just accept it will hit 200K miles before the loan can be paid off.

Keep his current car, and pay cash for a 10-12 year old work car he can run up miles on.

Thoughts?
Posted by: Victor Tango Kilo at August 23, 2025 12:13 AM (DIweC)

If financially feasible I'd buy a newish car and keep the current car as the work car provided it's still reliable. When it gets too old, replace it with the now not-so-newish car and buy a new newish car.

385 Speaking of hotdogs, we're actually going for hotdogs tomorrow. There is a place in the jersey pine barrens pretty much in the center of all the motorcycle routes and usual stops. What a goldmine they have. They built an entire business in their backyard of a town that looks like mayberry. Dirt parking lot across the street, and the service counters are literally up against the fence around the property. A lot of different style hot dogs. Its a landmark. 50 mile ride through nice roads. The dudes I ride with I call the retarded lawyers, because they can't seem to pass a frigging bar, so I'm sure we're going to hit a couple road side semi dive bars along the route where there are always other biker types. 20 miles past that there is a great marina bar right on the water, kind of upscale, lots of motorcycles. Of course they're going to want to go there too, and it all revolves around these frigging hot dogs.

This cinches it, Jim Cramer weighed in on the Cracker Barrel rebrand:

That dude's voice sounds exactly like my son's dumb as fuck and annoying as fuck father-in-law.

During my Mom's last months when my sister and I were taking care of her, one morning I heard his voice in the other room and I blurted out, "loudly, Why the fuck is that asshole here?"

Earned me a rebuke from my dear Mum about my hsving used bad language, it did.

One of the ads I'm seeing here is two men kissing, ugh. Click here to see actors who you didn't know are gay.

No thanks, lol

392 I’m thinking they are tanking the Cracker Barrel on purpose. A - they don’t want all those people driving in their RVs from CB to CB all around the country and B - they want the real estate which has gotten a lot more valuable over the years.

Posted by: SnailRacer at August 23, 2025 01:40 AM (11mhd)

393 Of course they're going to want to go there too, and it all revolves around these frigging hot dogs.

Las Cruces has Lalo's Sonoran Dogs. They have a food cart in gravel parking lot. They had a ghost pepper dog for a while. Not anymore, I think must have killed everybody that tried them. Sonoran Dogs are delish.

Have fun on your ride, sounds like a hoot.

Its about a 150 mile day by the time we get done. Weather is supposed be perfect. I lived here all my life and I never knew about these great roads and areas to ride until a year ago. It seems like there is no population down there. Motorcycles everywhere, like being in sturgis.

I'll run it by them. They love us. 7 -10 dudes every time we go. probably 30-40 hot dogs for us alone. Some of our guys have been going there for years.

Posted by: Berserker-Dragonheads Division at August 23, 2025 01:49 AM (snZF9)

402 Several years ago, the Boise area briefly had a Sam's Club. It was nearly empty every time I went there. You could roll a bowling ball down some of the aisles and not worry about hitting somebody.

Costco had already been in Boise for several years before Sam's got around to opening a store there.

Plus, apparently as a cost cutting measure, they built it concurrently with a Super Wal-Mart on the same lot. Instant competition for Sam's.

I think insiders are making a killing by shorting the stock. Don't know if there is much value in the commercial real estate right now. Lots of shuttered businesses, and it's not like Cracker Barrels can be readily made into residential properties.

405 Back in day, I'll call the mid 70's living in SoCal in the foothills above LA, we used to get raked by 100 + degree temps for a couple of weeks at a time in August. This was the day before central air. Our house just had a basement fan that would pump some air that was cooler than outside but not by much.

Some years, we did have the "Monsoon Pump" charging up from Baja Mexico which brought up some epic Thunderstorms to my city along with a good amount of rain which cooled down everything by 30 degrees. I slept with my windows open on those nights and after the storms were over, the air smelled of pungent Chaparral bushes and pine and the sound of the crickets was almost deafening but I slept the sleep of Kings.

The old man sitting next to the barrel in the logo was Herschel C. McCartney, "Uncle Herschel", the uncle of Cracker Barrel founder Dan Evins.

He worked for the Martha White Flour Co. salesman for 32 years, and went old timey general stores all over the south during that time. And of course, he loved to sit on the front porches next to a barrel.

Teresa, I was thinking of you tonight, I hope that you had a wonderful time.

Wow Bers, those hot dogs and that place look incredible. The only thing I know about the Pine Barrens I learned from various crime novels set in New York and New Jersey and watching The Sopranos.
