Bud / Bud Light's "Real Men of Genius" and "Real American Heroes" ad campaigns were awesome. A few examples. Here's a compilation of 50 of these ads ----- And who could forget the "Dilly Dilly" / "Pit of Misery" campaign? The Entire Dilly Dilly saga Clever. Funny. Memorable. Maybe even make you want to buy the product. Everything a good ad should be.
Lots of reaction to this "rebranding". Here's just a bit.
These are some good examples of what Cracker Barrel did to itself ![]() ![]() What say you, Hordelings? Good move, bad move, or don't care? ![]() Popping pimples in the ‘Triangle of Death, a triangular area of your face between the bridge of the nose and the corners of your mouth, can cause serious medical complications and even death. Lish Marie, a young mother of three, recently went viral on TikTok after posting a video about how popping a pimple below her face caused extreme inflammation and facial paralysis that required medical attention. Lish tried to pop a pimple just below her left nostril using her nails, but within hours, she knew something was wrong. The left side of her face became so swollen that when she tried to smile, it hurt, and only the other corner of her mouth raised into a grin. After about four hours, she went to the emergency room, where doctors immediately put her on four medications – including antibiotics and steroids – to treat the infections that had allegedly entered the bloodstream through the pimple. *** Basically, when you pop a pimple in the Triangle of Death, you create an open wound through which dangerous bacteria can enter the bloodstream and cause an infection that can reach your brain. Cases as the ones mentioned above are rare, otherwise, millions of teenagers would wind up in the hospital every year, but doctors warn that, however small, the risks need to be considered.TikTok video at the link. from thisdayinmusic.com Born on this date in 1952: Turkish-born English musician, singer, actor and songwriter Joe Strummer who was the co-founder of The Clash Born on this date in 1954: Steve Smith, drums, Journey On this date in 2005: Robert Moog, inventor of the synthesiser died aged 71, four months after being diagnosed with brain cancer. In keeping with the sartorial ledes:
El Salvador’s President @nayibbukele has banned the “Edgar” haircut from public schools. The haircut is considered to have been brought to El Salvador by deported criminals inspired by Chicano culture in the U.S. The Ministry of Education has announces that students of public schools must attend school with "proper haircuts," clean uniforms and correct personal presentation from now on. GO WOKE, GO BROKE: Cracker Barrel CEO Julie Felss Masino's decision to 'decolonize' the company starting by removing the old-fashioned country gentleman meant to evoke nostalgia and Americana from the logo is hammering the stock wiping out $250 million in value. As a guy in the marketing business, I can tell you this: most of marketing, from the logos you see, to the ads you see, to the coupons you see, is all aimed at women.
There are a few specific products that are just for men, but they're exceptional. And, we might get some men to buy some not-specifically-male products with our ads, but that's just a bonus. Women buy everything. That's the market. That's why advertising is so bemusing to men. Posted by: Yudhishthira's Dice at August 21, 2025 10:29 PM (BI5O2) 116

Why were they asked to leave? Too loud/profane? Disturbing the other diners? Hogging the salad bar? What I find particularly grating is the way the A. door slam kept pointing with her finger to emphasize how important she was, like a scold. The Cracker Barrel CEO is a perfect Leftist.
She used all true sentences, yet completely changed the conclusion. After talking about the "new decor", she said the number #1 question she gets is, "When can you come do our renovation?". None of franchisees said it was BECAUSE of the new decor. I bet almost every restaurant would love corporate to do a renovation on their dime, if it didn't too radically change the ambiance. One of the things that got me to stop getting fast food was the always uncooked fries.
Ymm...its still squishy inside...like if I ate a shredded piece of raw potato... Posted by: 18-1 at August 21, 2025 10:33 PM (sKqQm) Well, I hate fries that are cooked so crisp they snap like twigs. I like fries that are chipped on-site from fresh potatoes, and cooked golden on the outside, with a crumbly baked-potato texture inside. Of the chains, Five Guys has the best fries by my standards. Good breaded potato wedges may edge out Five Guys fries, though. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at August 21, 2025 10:47 PM (+jGmf) 183

Back when I was younger, we knew which dive bars had the best hamburgers.
Posted by: nerdygirl ----- The rules have been seriously relaxed now, but the OLCC guarenteed that cheapest best food in Oregon was served in bars, rather than restaurants. To have a hard liquor license, a certain, significant percentage of your income had to come from hot food, from a separate kitchen which was required to be in operation for, again, a significant portion of operating hours. The intent was obvious- to minimize bars serving whisky etc. But, creative accounting to the rescue. The loophole was income, not profits. So, put a sirloin steak with a baker and salad on the menu at $15. Then put up a special on the chalkboard behind the bar "Sirloin special- $5." Of course the special only went away about 2 days a month. Cost of special- about 5 bucks. They break even, or even lose a little on the food, but they can sell a ton of high margin liquor while keeping their license. Portland strip clubs were great for this. A steak dinner that cost $25 anywhere else was $5 at The Acropolis. DAMHIK Posted by: buddhaha at August 21, 2025 10:54 PM (e16Yw) 215

I always ask the Navy guys what their ship or unit is when I can. Today the group up on Range 1 was from an LCS (forget the name).
Whenever they say LCS, I say "oh, I'm sorry" - and without exception, they have laughed, rolled their eyes, and said "yeah". Today I softened the blow by noting that unlike the amphibious fleet, LCSs had not been burning at regular intervals. But when their medical gal called me over to ask about local first-responder situation, I noticed that about 20% of the group was clearly unfit, overweight. This does not make me happy. Don't follow every development, but pretty sure Hegseth was picked above all to fix all the accumulated personnel issues in uniform. Hope that PT requirements up to/including general officers get re-introduced and strictly enforced. Posted by: rhomboid at August 21, 2025 11:09 PM (U/Byj) 262

Beef tallow is pretty damned good (despite being "trendy" at the moment) but the absolute best french fry medium is bacon grease. OMG that's good. When the late Mrs. Borgia and I got a craving to harden our arteries, we'd put some corn oil in the deep fryer to get things started, then deep fry a package of bacon. Then came the chicken, fries and/or tots. OMG that was good. Hardly worth the effort as a single dude, though. Never been in a Cracker Barrel. Just in a Waffle House once, last November, Ft. Lauderdale. Around 8PM, not 3AM. Perfectly fine, just what I was looking for - breakfast for dinner, emphasis on hash browns. Don't remember it being as ridiculously expensive as all restaurants are now.
Last year we went to Denny's nearby for breakfast, just for the hell of it (we were up early for something, can't recall). It was good, as remembered. $50. Fifty US dollars. For breakfast (no steak and eggs, no "dessert" - just breakfast plates and coffee). Stunning. Some of that may well be the Khmer Rouge idiocy degrading CA, making everything needlessly expensive. But yowzah. Posted by: rhomboid at August 21, 2025 11:17 PM (U/Byj) 285

What say you, Hordelings? Good move, bad move, or don't care?
We used to go there a lot. It was an upgrade from IHOP but a downgrade from the Pancake House (in Dallas and Austin). When I made the morning trek from Austin to Dallas would stop at the one in Temple. Then we discovered First Watch and said "Good Bye" to the HFCS pancake syrup and the way too salty ham. There are some in ETX, but never has been worth the drive. We grew out of it. But still enjoy the memories. The Bud Lighting of Crackhead Barrel is just a reminder you can never really go back home. I'm 100% sure I'll never darken the doorway again of the place, its just another clone of Denny's, Waffle House and IHOP now. I've never been to a Cracker Barrel restaurant, but I did go to a Bob Evans in Powell, OH. The modernized CB looks very much like the BE restaurant. If I didn't know the chain any better (see above: I don't), I'd probably stop inside one and try it out. The food at Bob Evans was great, so I'd expect at least as much from The Cracker. That's where it lives or dies in my book. The store itself is much bigger and more extensive than the Bob Evans' so I'd probably have The Wife check that out. I'd try it. I have read and agree with the description that "Waffle House is Southern hibachi." I loved it in my 20s. You knew what you were getting and the hash browns and raisin toast were always good.
When I see the Cracker Barrel logo change and the woman that goes along with it, I think of Bud Light and how these big companies keep bringing in people who don't actually like the company or its products. I don't know if they don't have other options (or are sourpuss Yale females all that are on tap for these C-suite positions?), but my understanding is that part of Philip Morris' renaissance started with really bringing in people who liked their products at the time, e.g., cigarettes and junk food. I didn't go to Cracker Barrel to eat like an upwardly-mobile yuppie Yale undergrad- I went for decent food where my whole family could get something they liked. If I wanted a side of condescension there are plenty of expensive restaurants with mediocre food that I could go visit. Posted by: Nerd Herd at August 21, 2025 11:46 PM (6nQni) 350

That Cracker Barrel CEO is a stereotypical AWFL. Just put her picture in the dictionary for AWFL. Cracker Barrel was in the rotation of "Sunday dinner" places here for many years, going back to my teens. They started small in the early 70s, and through the 80s were mostly a SE and mid-West operation. In the mid-90s they started expanding nation wide. There's one in Simpsonville here, and we've been going there regularly. The food was good, I thought. Not spectacular, but good. This one here so went down a little after Covid and then Biden-flation. It recovered a bit, food wise, but still isn't up to where it was. Cracker Barrel, pre Covid, used to have a damned good broiled catfish item. Some other good fish as well. After Covid and inflation they dropped a lot of that. I think they brought the catfish back, but I'm not sure. I think they tried to keep from raising their prices too much during Biden-flation, and quality suffered. Another regular restaurant around here, a local favorite around here, a local concern did just the opposite. They maintained quality, but raised prices. They're still doing fairly well. The Suburban motor mount saga goes on without resolution. New mounts in place, and the engine is resting on them. And still low on the driver's side. And the left mount is not aligned with the holes in the cross-member to bolt it down. Right one is. I think the shims I made will have to come out. Fortunately, it is not too big of a chore to do that.
Did have one unalloyed win today, though. Took the blades off the Dixon mower to sharpen them, and, as expected, they were loose on the spindles. Sharpened and balanced, and then welded washers, on center, to their bottom faces, and put them back on the spindles with a plastic washer between the blade and the hub face. No more slippage. Mower runs 100% quieter, and is cutting way better. Mowed the ditches, and they look awesome. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at August 22, 2025 12:17 AM (PXoV/) 381

Well, hitting the Reset button on the dead DualAv stereo did nothing. Tuner appears to work. USB reader appears to work. Controls all appear to work. just no audio. At. all. Looks like there might be a cold-soldered joint or two on the amp chip. I am too tired right now to delve further into it. I should set up my binocular microscope, and have a REAL close look at the solder joints. I could also probably set up a signal tracer, and see if I can pick up the audio upstream of the amp chip. The amp chip has no markings at all on it, but appears similar to those from some other car stereos I have parted out. Odds are it's a knockoff of a common part.

Back in the 90's Jonathan Turley, representing some former defense workers at the vaunted Area 51 in a lawsuit, forced Bubba to do just that. He had to a) acknowledge that Area 51 existed, and then b) exempt it from environmental laws. It was a clever trick to make the US govt admit. So maybe several posters her ( one regular, one drive by" could put to bed the idea that I have disrespect for either the Mass or the RCC?
