10 Ha! My first top 5 in months!

Evening and morning, folken. I woke unaccountably early, two hours before I planned, and could not drift back off. So, here I is.

I loved the video whee the fat leftist calls to the cop, "You could choose to be something else!" and the cop calls back, 'You could choose to eat a salad!" I couldn't actually make those lines out within the sound on the video; I'm going by the caption the poster provided. Still, it's funny and refreshing to see. Perhaps the zeitgeist really is changing.

14 tech question:

Years ago, a friend who was teaching at a college was authorized to put a thingie in an email sent to a student to see if that student (or someone using the student's email) opened it. The authorization came from campus higher-ups or law enforcement or whatever, I don't recall. What is that called; I'd like the lingo to know how to google it. (The student did, in fact, open and reopen and reopen the email.) Tx.

Posted by: m at August 19, 2025 04:47 AM (aURVT)

15 I'm having coffee, of course, and trying to decide if I want to go work out in a while. Yes, I've already done my walk the last two mornings, so I'm entitled to a day off . . . but here I am up early, and there is nothing entertaining on TV, so why not?

I did the channel scan thing this weekend and found I can get the StartTV channel, and it has Gilmore Girls on at 4 pm my time on weekdays. Unfortunately the channel doesn't present closed-captioning, and if there was ever a TV series that *needed* CC with its rapid-fire dialog, it's GG. Still, it's cool to see Lauren Graham again. Somehow she managed to combine "cute" and "hot" in the same package.

Lorelai (Lauren), likening her battles with her mother to whales fighting: "She'll beat us with her tail and hose us with her blowhole."

18 Banning 4chan from the internet is like banning the trash can from your kitchen.

Oh, sure, nobody likes garbage. No one wants to have garbage in their house. Ew, that's gross. But then when you're just getting in to making a cake and you got a handful of eggshells and you're dribbling salmonella all over the nice new tile floor bumbling around looking for something to do with them, you'll hopefully figure it out.

I am fine. However, a doctor more interested in a future trend line than current health gave me strict instructions and drugs that dehydrated me. I fainted in his office during a BP measurement. Instead of taking me to IHOP, he sent me to the ER.

An IV bag and I was good to go. However, I have to get a new doctor's certificate to drive. That is today.

And from my shoddy treatment by my Superintendent, I want to not drive. I have a hard choice today.

And that's low for comparable apartments in the area.

45 My real bet (belgians in trenchcoats aside) is that there's a clear bloody path to be found from the US and UK Taxpayer through Kiev and straight into Starmer's pocket. Wow. Good for you though.

These are just studio apartments though. Apparently less than 1000 square feet. Our town population is very low....two sets of stoplights. I was just curious and looked them up.

Clarence is right. The government is shovelling money into "affordable housing" so I'm sure people are cleaning up. But that amount of money for a tiny apartment in a rural town shocked me. I don't see how young families can survive here.

Everyone have a happy day. I'd really like to finish going through the house this week and focus on earning a living.

If you view it through how much a mortgage on the apartment would cost, it's probably in line.

That's how I priced the rent on my house.

If someone wanted to buy my house at the current market value with all factors considered, the mortgage would be 2700 per month.

So that's what I charge for rent.

58 2 bed room apartments in Las Cruces, NM range between $800 to $1700 with more common rent running $1500. 3 bed single family homes range from $1200 to $3000 with more common rent running $2500.

When I moved here in 2019 I picked off a very nice 3 bedroom, 2 bath house for $160k and structured the mortgage so my PITA runs me $540. I will have it paid off by 2029, maybe sooner. At that time I knew those prices would not last and I was right. If I hadn't done that my retirement would be a nightmare. This perspective was informed by what I saw house prices and rent prices do in Seattle. My life is pretty great here. I really feel sorry for people on fixed incomes and people starting out trying to afford current housing prices.

I believe Accomack is right. That apartment complex is now the tallest building in town. There's not a ton of units but I still believe the cops will be there a lot.

Lauper arrived at just about the same time as Madonna. She was cute and her songs were fun. I really thought she was going to be the bigger star. Not that I gave much of a darn.

"Boys Will Be Boys": Co-written with Rob Hyman and Eric Bazilian for The Hooters' 1993 single, with Lauper as guest vocalist.
"Hold Me In Your Heart": Composed for the 2013 musical Kinky Boots, performed by Billy Porter.

Yeah, true. But I don't know. Bongino's no stranger to how the justice system works, he used to do investigations with the SS, right? And he's spent years doing his own yeoman sleuthing for his podcast on the same handful of federal three-letter cretins. (Actual quote: "No country which has gone socialist has ever gone back." My reply: "Because they *can't*.")

Anyway, he's doing okay. He left the group because he couldn't stand the fellow who annoyed me into leaving: the guy who thought he knew it all, but let "Creases" for "Croesus" get into his "published" book. Also his girlfriend's pitbull mix, Rusty, snapped the other day and carved up my colleague's arm for absolutely no reason. The dog hasn't been euthanized, but sent to a no-kill shelter which will try to "rehabilitate" him. Sounds like a good idea to me. Though I doubt a dog like that can ever be trusted.

Probably one could breed that trait out of them but it would require a great deal of care and many generations to do so. Unfortunately, not only is there an innate tendency to rip arms off, but assholes breed them for viciousness so that they'll rip arms off.

Stories like that are the reason I distrust *most* dogs. I suppose breeds like the Labrador or the Newfoundland are really goodnatured, and small dogs like the Pomeranian can probably not do much damage. But they are all so vigorous and so determined to jump on you. Cats are more reserved, and they usually will run instead of attacking you. (Usually. I've heard stories about them too.)

Maybe so. But whether it's fright or fight, I don't consider it a breed to have around -- even if I were inclined to adopt a dog. I grew up watching Rin-Tin-Tin and Lassie. Both breeds are beautiful. But they are so big.

Miniature collies, Shelties, are lovely and a good size, but they're pretty darn energetic too. Near my work I used to see a woman, a dog-sitter I think, walking four of the little shaggy creatures. She had to work hard to keep them in line.

161 Is there a betting site doing anything with the 4Chan/English war?
I will take 4Chan in 3 months or less.

162 I don't associate with pit bulls at all. Untrustworthy breed. Give me my beloved Labs or any Golden any time. My girls had a huge part in raising our kids, they were/are natural baby sitters. I never saw either so much as raise a lip even with some atrocious provocation. They would simply get up and move away.

At my advanced age, I have just now discovered the name to one of those melodies you live with all your life without knowing where it came from. "La Paloma", made popular by Sebastian Iradier.

164 Yeah, they all say that, and then you read the story every so often where a pitbull has mauled a toddler that was its best friend five minutes ago.

It also seems a requirement out here in ETX that if you are stupid, irresponsible and don't know the first thing about raising dogs, is to have at least one pitbull, feral, and kept mostly outdoors without restraint to the road and neighborhood.

165 I liked Bob Hope until he made some disparaging remark about Cyndi Lauper and her looks.

He was all about physical beauty, like Morgan Fairchild and Brooke Shields.

Putting up English flags generally isn't a bad thing.

Putting up English flags to make people feel uncomfortable IS a bad thing.

Learn the difference.

167 157 I saw the clip of Cyndi Lauper on the Tonight Show singing "Time after time."

Wow. Just. Wow.

I'm Interested in what you will do if your time table is not met. What are your options?

169 Every company should follow Linktr.ee's example and cut off India from the rest of the internet.
