From Hudson, Minnesota comes the story of the team at the heart of Urban Olive & Vine, and their dedication to a woman they’d come to know and love, Carol Trainer. Along with husband Chad, Carol founded the restaurant and recruited from the 14-18 year-old-age bracket, enjoying the opportunity to pass on critical work experience, and life experience besides, to the “sponge”-like minds of the eager recruits. But the tables were turned when Carol had a seizure, and entered a comatose state at the hospital that lasted for months. Chad, dutifully at her bedside, says he never asked one favor of his staff: they did it all themselves. What exactly did they do? “Without them the restaurant would not exist,” Chad tells Boyd Huppert’s Land of 10,000 Stories at KARE 11. “These kids became adults and ran our business, and took care of me.”Check out the whole story. Includes a video of the story from Boyd Huppert Turns out, America is putting down the wine glass. Gallup’s latest survey shows only 54% of U.S. adults say they drink alcohol — the lowest number since the poll started way back in 1939. It’s not just a tiny dip, either. For decades, at least 60% of Americans said they drank. But in the past three years, those numbers have slid fast: 62% in 2023, 58% in early 2024, and now… 54%. Gallup says this kind of year-after-year drop has never happened before. *** And no, it’s not because everyone’s suddenly swapped wine for marijuana. Recreational marijuana use has stayed about the same for the past four years, so this is more about people rethinking alcohol altogether.Read it for yourself and let us know your thoughts. ![]() In what might be one of the most Florida arrests ever, a man accused of stealing Smokey Bear signs from state forests and selling them online for $1,900 each got a surprise he didn’t see coming: Smokey Bear himself showed up for the takedown.Duuuuuude! Labeled Moschino, it’s paired with starfish earrings and sunglasses clutch. It’s definitely campy! Real or Fake? Moschino loves pop-art playfulness, but is this pool float dress a Jeremy Scott masterpiece? ![]() *** Outfit #3: The Inflatable Unicorn Jumpsuit A puffy, pastel jumpsuit that imagines a unicorn shape, complete with a horned hood and rainbow tail. Labeled Jean Paul Gaultier, it’s accessorized with cloud-shaped platforms and a sparkly bag. It’s whimsical and wildly impractical. Real or Fake? Gaultier loves theatrical flair, but is this unicorn jumpsuit a couture creation or a fantasy? ![]() *** Outfit #4: The Chandelier Tuxedo A black tuxedo draped in hundreds of tiny, jingling crystals that sparkle like a chandelier. Labeled Givenchy, it’s styled with mirrored sunglasses. It’s dazzling, disorienting, and far from subtle. Real or Fake? Givenchy’s couture is dramatic, but does this crystal tux align with their vibe? Guess away! ![]() *** Outfit #5: The Taxidermy Bird Dress A dress made of hawk feathers, escorted by a taxidermy bird headpiece, making it appear as though they are circling and clawing at the model's hair. The birds, whose feathers make up the skirt, appear to move menacingly as the model they're attached to quivers and shakes nervously beneath them. Labeled Alexander McQueen, it is macabre, striking, and undeniably bold. Real or Fake? McQueen was famous for his dark, nature-inspired drama, but is this bird-covered dress a true couture piece or a ghoulish imitation? ![]() *** Got your guesses locked in? Let’s see if you aced the runway or fell for the fakes! Here’s the truth behind these wild looks: 1. Sideways Tulle Gown: Real! Viktor & Rolf’s Spring / Summer 2023 couture collection featured gravity-defying, sideways tulle gowns. 2. Pool Float Dress: Real! Moschino’s spring/summer 2023 collection included the campy pink flamingo pool float dress by Jeremy Scott. 3. Inflatable Unicorn Jumpsuit: Fake! Gaultier loves drama, but this jumpsuit leans too far into tacky. 4. Chandelier Tuxedo: Fake! Givenchy’s elegance doesn’t jingle. 5. Taxidermy Bird Dress: Real! Alexander McQueen’s Spring 2001 VOSS collection featured the dress adorned with taxidermy birds, showcasing his signature dark romanticism, as documented in fashion archives like the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. It’s not uncommon to feel nostalgic for a time in your life when you were happy, had few responsibilities, and had your entire future ahead of you. Some folks feel nostalgic for eras that they have never lived in, but they love the idea and aesthetics. This is called anemoia. One Instagram account—‘June Cleavers Vintage Closet’—successfully taps into that feeling. The curator of this social media project shares photos of all things of vintage design, from retro recipes and fashion to furniture, tech, architecture, and toys. We’ve collected some of the most interesting pics that embody days long gone, to give you a taste of nostalgia tinged with a dash of wistfulness.A few photos from the link: ![]() ![]() ![]() ------ One for the yutes ![]() ------ Not gonna lie - I still do this ![]() ------ This one might cause some dust to get in your eyes

June Cleaver's Vintage Closet is kind of misleading. The stuff depicted may be "vintage" but a lot of it is very exceptional high-end stuff that Ward and June would never see.
I saw a gorgeous vintage car today, a 1929 Stutz boat-tail speedster, with a straight-eight engine. But a '29 Model A Ford is a lot more representative of what the average guy could strive for. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at August 17, 2025 10:19 PM (JcBxc) 52

We (hubs and I) regularly watched Siskel and Ebert back in the day, and after we saw the review of Raiders, we HAD to go! Being College students at the time, we could go just about any time to see a movie, so I don't remember any lines to get in.
Fast forward a couple more years, and we actually had the luxury of time to go to the local mall in College Station and park our hineys on the floor by the theater to watch "Return of the Jedi" on the first day that it came out. We were 1st in line! By the time the movie started, the theater was packed. Unfortunately, at the climactic scene where Emperor Palpatine is zapping Luke Skywalker, the sound cut out and didn't come back on for several crucial minutes. The poor theater owner had to take it in the shorts and issue everybody there passes to come see it again another day. Everyone was disappointed, but understanding. And we got to see it again a few days later, so all was well 😊❤️ Posted by: Teresa in Fort Worth, Texas - Ace of Spades Ladies Brigade, plucky comic relief at August 17, 2025 10:50 PM (SRRAx) 147

Sigh...classical gas. One of my great triumphs and failures. I spent a week learning the song by ear, because I didn't have any music or tabs for it, and then spent a few weeks perfecting it. I was out of my frigging mind for even attempting something like that. Learning classical with no music is rough. I had it down to about 99% good, a triumph, because I always swore to learn it if I ever picked up classical. Well going to do my part to fight the decline in alcohol consumption. What'll it be tonight? Probably some Barbados rum. I've been finishing off my cheap (but good) rum, bourbon, and rye lately. Almost time for another shopping trip. Have better stuff but touch it less often.
What does CBD say about bourbon prices and quality? I agree, but I set the bar for perfectly good everyday booze a bit lower than he does. For around $30 I have found very satisfactory stuff. Elijah Craig rye (finished this week) was quite nice with a cube or two - $22? The rum I might finish tonight (Doorly's XO) is about the same price, very nice. I found it rather amusing and I was pleased that their organist was playing " O God, our help in ages past" which was written in 1708 by a non conformist ( non Anglican) Congregationalist minister and logician, Issac Watts in 1708, but I guess even certain hymn tunes have come over to the RCC .

Making an AI full length movie is still expensive, but within a few years it will be much cheaper then making a big budget Hollywood one and will likely be able to produce reasonable quality, especially in comparison to modern Hollywood's production level.

From what I'm reading, they are going to go on a strict enforcement campaign. For the first 180 days, only warning will be given. After that, it's fines and points. The story of the 70s Trans Am is much like the story of the just deceased Dodge Challenger. The TA almost got dropped cause of low sales. Then all the other makers dropped their muscle cars. Turned out there were this many sales in the market for those and instead of splitting them 4 or 5 ways the TA got all of them and it became profitable. The last gen Challenger also ended up with the entire large sporty coupe market so then sold profitability for a very long time by auto standards.

Physical writing as on a notepad or reading notes isn't banned, nor is eating and drinking. When I was in South Carolina public schools, every student could take 30 days off without any kind of doctor's or other excuse. It was a legacy of the time when children were needed on the farm, especially at harvest time.
Some days I did not want to go to school. I knew I had my 30. The nosy busybody school secretary would call and ask why I wasn't in school, was I sick, etc and Young Mama would respond in variations of "none of your damn bidnis" and "Do I have to over there right now and Have a Talk" and "Who are you again?" Awww shucks.... thanks. There's another kinda sorta planetary parade forming on the early morning side of the sky now in late August. Venus, Jupiter, Saturn will be all visible. Uranus and Neptune will be up there as well, so technically 6 planets "parading" in the morning, but you can't see Uranus and Neptune. The Moon will be in there as well. I believe this morning and the morning of the 19th will be the best window. Yep, just checked, Mercury's max western elongation is the 19th. 426 420: I remember dropping a subscription to a golf magazine when they put a GlObauL waRmERinG edition out. It kept warning that all these famous golf courses will be under water in 10-15 years. St Andrews, Pebble Beach, Florida, etc
This was 20 years ago and exactly none of that happened. The magazine went out of business, got bought, and resurfaced as the same magazine minus the pagan druids preaching the gospel of #kwimatechange. It's a much better mag now. I can name all my elementary school teachers. I mostly hated them or loved them, so they all made an impression. Posted by: Blonde Morticia at August 18, 2025 02:00 AM (ny95y) Same. I loved my fourth grade teacher. I can break the server as to why. My fifth grade teacher (second half) was a bitch. “You’ll never get past sixth grade with your handwriting”, she assured me. The next time I was at that school I had a bachelor’s in hand. Posted by: Cow Demon at August 18, 2025 04:42 AM (k2LUN) Processing 0.07, elapsed 0.0812 seconds. |
