Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition![]() Special U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff said Sunday that Russian leader Vladimir Putin agreed at his summit with President Donald Trump to allow the U.S. and European allies to offer Ukraine a security guarantee resembling NATO’s collective defense mandate as part of an eventual deal to end the 3 1/2-year war. “We were able to win the following concession: That the United States could offer Article 5-like protection, which is one of the real reasons why Ukraine wants to be in NATO," he said on CNN's “State of the Union.” He added that it "was the first time we had ever heard the Russians agree to that.” If "security guarantee" means selling American arms to Europe and Ukraine, then I'm all for it. But if it means some sort of informal membership in NATO for Ukraine, which is EXACTLY what "Article 5-like protection" means, then no. No. NO! Let Europe protect Ukraine. Let them risk their soldiers. Let them risk their cities. Let them risk a charming little tactical nuke exchange with Russia. But keep America out of it. We have done enough for the security of Europe, and it is time for them to put their big-boy pants on and defend themselves, and whatever shared culture they have left (aside from Pakistani rape gangs). Trump doesn't rule out sending US troops to Ukraine as part of peacekeeping efforts: 'We'll be involved' Speaking during a brief media availability alongside Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the Oval Office, Trump told reporters that both Europe and the United States would be involved in securing a post-war peace for Ukraine, but he refused to say outright that American troops would not be put on the ground to maintain that peace.Et Tu Donald? No American boots on the ground. Let some hapless Belgian battalion be the tripwire for another European war. Or even better, make it some pathetic United Nations blue-helmeted rapist battalion, so they get their balls shot off by the Russians if and when they decide to take a bigger chunk of Ukraine. But I don't care... as long as it isn't American blood and treasure being expended for the miserable post-modern cowards of Europe. I can tell you exactly what this "security guarantee" is worth: that white roll of paper usually found perched next to toilet bowls. Why do you think the Russians would agree to it? Because they know it's as phony as Dylan Mulvaney's coochie. NATO is dead. Everyone knows it. Russia could invade half the NATO countries and the rest of them would do ... nothing. The USA is gonna go to war with Russia (or China) over Albania? Estonia? Montenegro? Latvia? Greece? Fucking Turkey? Turkey is likely to invade Greece more than be invaded itself. So what's another worthless wipe-your-ass-with-it security "guarantee"? Posted by: Elric The Blade at August 19, 2025 11:08 AM (iFTx/) 19

Yep. Are we willing to level bomb the enemy's cities? Are we willing to destroy their ports? Are we willing to end their electrical grid? No? Then why the hell are we willing to send even one US soldier? If it isn't important enough to cause real pain to our enemy it isn't worth the death on one American soldier. I think it should be made very clear (Nixon was great on that, ha)
Non-Intervention is not the same as “Isolationist”; a word coined specifically for strawman arguments. It is true that America wanted nothing to do with another European civil war in the 1930s. And who can blame them? America was founded, in part, specifically to get away from those clowns. The people who always talk publicly about “American Values” don’t seem to like any of the enumerated rights in our constitution. They talk in vague, anodyne terms about “freedom” and “democracy” but always come down on the side of authoritarian ass-hats. Censorship and criticism of government especially, ist Verboten. Until they gain a modicum of trust and credibility, I’ll never believe anything they say. Posted by: Common Tater at August 19, 2025 11:09 AM (yKoRs) 22

The next shoe may be about to drop. For weeks now, a bunch of motley radicals have been besieging the Portland ICE office late into the night, using amplified sound to harass the Federal cops guarding the building. There are apartment buildings nearby, and an enraged resident sued the city over its failure to enforce noise codes. The city had senior police officers testify that enforcing the noise codes is optional, and a judge ruled in favor of the city. Last night, a stolen car was driven next to the ICE building, was stopped, and the driver fled. The car was searched, and nothing was found, but that sure looks like a dry run for a car bombing. ---------- I commented on this yesterday. The video I saw showed it was *extremely* dangerous for law enforcement--there were literally a hundred or so "protestors", most wearing masks and/or filtration masks, it was damn near too dark to see, its just a recipe for disaster that law enforcement has to face them night after night. Graysexuality exists in what many describe as a “gray area” between being allosexual – experiencing regular sexual attraction — and asexual — experiencing none. Those who identify as graysexual may feel sexual attraction rarely, inconsistently or only under specific circumstances.
Much like "demi-sexual" they've realized coming up with more pervy sexualities isn't helping them so now they are going to try and give a category to normal people. "Demi-sexual" for example is most women and a significant portion of men. Posted by: 18-1 at August 19, 2025 11:24 AM (t0Rmr) 78

Posted by: Archimedes at August 19, 2025 11:13 AM (Riz8t) == The NATO talk was just a pretense. Russia's actions have been to expand their footprint whenever possible to achieve a desired security parameter. A couple of things have happened. One, he realizes, as well as we do, that his armed forces are no longer elite. As much as drone technology has changed the US tank planning, it also impacts mass artillery formations, which is Russia's favorite mode of fighting. He realizes that it is most likely that the democrats will not sit in the WH for the next 10 years, meaning any additional advancement might be an issue. He saw what we did to Iran's nuke program. If Trump's treatment of Putin and Ukraine is his first complaint about Trump, then he's still way deep into the Trump Humper camp. Increase in military budget since 2020 Sweden: Sweden's military budget has significantly increased since 2020, doubling to SEK 120 billion ($11 billion USD) by 2024 Norway: In 2024, Norway spent an estimated 2.2% of its GDP on defense, and aims to spend 3.3% in 2025. If Trump agrees to a US guarantee of Ukrainian security, it's not 4D chess. It's not wheels within wheels. It's just a disastrous mistake. In combination, two things have kept us out of the war. Public opinion, and the lack of any clear casus belli. If he establishes this guarantee, the #ForeverWar faction of the Deep State will have their casus belli, and won't be hampered by public opinion when the time comes to hammer a wedge into that crack and open up a battlefront. Even if they have to shoot a bunch of prisoners, dress them in Russian uniforms, and scatter their bodies around a Uke radio station, they'll have their war. Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) has decided to SUSPEND two boys at Stone Bridge High School, not because they misbehaved, not because they broke the law, but because they dared to ask why a girl was in the boys’ locker room. 7News reported earlier this year that LCPS launched a Title IX investigation against the boys after they were caught on video asking the obvious question: Why is there a girl in the boys’ locker room? That video, however, wasn’t recorded by the boys; it was recorded by the female student who identifies as male. A direct violation of LCPS policy, according to the news outlet. My 2 cents: NATO should have been abolished when the USSR and Warsaw Pact fell apart. It's whole reason for existence was protecting western Europe from the Soviets and their proxies.
US military presence should have been drawn down to essentially zero in Europe by the mid-1990s. If a NATO-like union was later required in Europe the EU should have been the organization to start it, with funding, troops and equipment from EU nations. I tend to agree, because once Ukraine was invaded Poland went to work upgrading their defense posture. They gave up old cruddy Warsaw Pact weapons to Ukraine, and got nice new shiny US ones. With what we have seen from Russia, I think Poland would beat them in a straight up fight.
None of this precludes the reality that if Russia thought she could take them - say after in some alternate reality they took over Ukraine - Russia would try. But Poland is not a hardened target. Everyone is concerned with Ukrainian security. Russia also has security concerns. This somehow gets lost in all the pro-Uke noise. Just because Russia has 8(?) timezones, does not mean their borders are safe. They are threatened by Islamists in Asia, and by NATO and NATO expansions in Europe. Ah, so when it was revealed that the USSR's plans included storming the Fulda Gap and charging through Western Europe, that must mean there's an equivalent plan for a sneak attack on the USSR in the Pentagon. Russia is not the Soviet Union yet some people keep pretending it is. The best way to prevent a war is to stop forcing conditions that might start one. Posted by: JackStraw at August 19, 2025 11:38 AM (viF8m) If there was ever a time for the Russians to roll into Western Europe when they were at the peak of military strength, it would have been during the Jimmy Carter term. I never imagined our military being so weak that we couldn't even start the engines on tanks and other armor because there was so little money allocated for fuel. And that was just a small part of the shortages we experienced in Europe at the time. So if Russia didn't attack then, I guess they really didn't want to in the first place.
