Yeah thanks. It was bad. His parents had a 5 acre spread with a barn. Somehow he manage to park his car behind the barn without them knowing. He must have overdosed, and the landscaper found him about 5 days later laying outside in july during a nasty heatwave. Almost a week in that heat. Jesus, what a way to go.

Nephew's filly was in her first cutting horse futurity over the weekend and came in second. She made the cut for the big Fort Worth futurity in September- he's beside himself. One of his in-laws (whole nother story) killed his foundation stud, so this eased that loss a lot.

I knew a guy, not a close friend, but I liked him, Kelly Jay, leader of the Canadian blues/boogie band Crowbar, and he spent the last years of his life in Calgary as a hoarder. As a teenager, she was determined to qualify for MENSA. She was programming computers when they were enormous things, she knows three languages, she is a math genius, etc. But she can't manage to bathe.
She's also mean as shit, and I have nothing whatsoever to do with her. There was a time I considered trying to help, but she made it perfectly clear that there was nothing wrong with her. The world was crooked, but she was not. So be it.
Her husband finally left her. He was a complete self-centered jerk. Never forced her to get help. Two of her kids escaped and became sort of normal. The other two are not salvageable.

But that was because of a lot of beach time in San Diego then Oahu... and was playing Paintball most weekends... body surfing and snorkeling... Beach volleyball...

There's some particular weird language in the speech many people notice, about "world events not having developed to Japan's advantage". Ya think?
But there's a reason for it, and it's that this rescript (an imperial pronouncement) had to be approved by the cabinet. And in the cabinet sat the army and navy ministers. Neither were exactly thrilled with the whole idea anyway, having been two of the 3 hardliners opposing acceptance of the Potsdam Declaration in the key imperial conference just days before.
To avoid offending them, particularly Army hardass Anami, the hilariously understated phrase above was used to describe "having our navy sunk, much of our army destroyed, every major city burnt to a cinder and two of them nuked, while starving under a blockade". The peace party was taking no chances, rightly unsure the military wasn't still going to derail things somehow.

DH's brother was a professional beach volleyball player. We used to drive down from WI to Chicago to watch the AVP when he played. He went to three Olympics, two as an indoor volleyballer and one on the beach.

Hoarding is often triggered by trauma. Sometimes unexpected deaths of loved ones, with women it is often sexual abuse at a young age. I think the tendency is probably already there...as children, they often had various collections..but there is usually some sort of trauma involved.

Did a resurvey of an Indian reservation boundary once. Those old timers did amazing work. All of their points were within a couple hundredths of an inch of point. It was easy to locate the old markers, because when they set their points, they would break an whiskey bottle over it.

No stars to be gazed upon. Cloudy and rainy. Haven't had a clear sky in days. It's pea soup with the humidity. The high here today was only 93F, and briefly, but dew point hit 79F. The heat index hit 107 because of that humidity. Temp is now 74 and dew point 73.

This year was something. GSP NWS station set the all time record for consecutive 90F+ days, at 42 beating the old record of 38 set in '93. That ended Aug 1.
The a polar high pressure system kicked in some cold air damming, and two days later, they set two lowest high records for Aug. So we went from hot summer records to cool summer records in 2 days.

I would let him go to work in a violet tie and grass green socks. Because if he dressed in either I would have given up and questioned why I was with him at all, much less if he wore them together. I guess throw this crap out and shop for the poor man!
I did once, before children, greet him at the door after his job with nothing on but a coat and a beer (for him). I think this counts for something, but apparently not in 1913.
I have never followed rules and am thankful we have none in this house that we discussed or wrote down. Wut?
There may be some rules but I have gone along with them for so long I can't remember.
I think he, on his own, lowers the toilet seat. He does not whine if I don't make him dinner every night, as we have stuff in the freezer.
Basically I have trained him well, life is good and I still make him laugh.

Chain, transit, compass and a mule. Until the 90's that is what they taught in forest surveying, and that is what the instructors learned. Add in a diameter tape, a clinometer and a prism for determining basal area of a stand, and you had all the tools you needed in your vest.
There were GPS based "speak and spells" that would do half the measuring and siting for you, but they wouldn't let students touch them. We had to use trig, and be happy we had TI calculators and didn't have to use the tables.

Not our problem, at all. Both DH and I know we are soul mates. Neither would ever leave. Can't. We are two halves of the whole. To leave would mean certain death of the soul.
We've been through some perfectly awful things together but we've always landed on our feet. Things that really should have torn us apart have never done so.
