Pam Bondi Apponts DEA Commissioner to be Emergency Chief of Police; the Pro-Crime DC City Government Sues
Headline: Pam Bondi deprives obese lesbian of DEI job.
Attorney General Pam Bondi on Thursday night issued a directive that places the head of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Terry Cole, as Washington, D.C.'s "emergency police commissioner." The position will give Cole the same authority as Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela Smith, who reports directly to Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser. It is not clear what Smith will be doing while the Trump administration takes over the city's law enforcement. President Donald Trump on Monday federalized the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) and deployed 800 National Guard troops in the capital city to help curb the district's high crime rate. Cole, who previously worked as Virginia's Secretary of Public Safety and Homeland Security before leading the DEA, will assume the "powers and duties vested in the District of Columbia Chief of Police," and the MPD must "receive approval from Commissioner Cole" before issuing any orders, according to the Associated Press.DC is suing to stop this. We can't have an outsider seeing the real crime figures! We'll all go to jail!
The suit appeared inevitable since Bondi made the announcement Thursday afternoon, as part of President Trump's initiative to send federal agents to the nation's capitol to curb violent crime, and top D.C. officials challenged Bondi's move last night. DC Attorney General Brian Schwalb said in the lawsuit that Trump is overreaching with his authority, The according to the Associated Press. Schwalb asked a judge to find that control of the Metropolitan Police Department remains under DC's authority and sought an emergency restraining order. "The administration's unlawful actions are an affront to the dignity and autonomy of the 700,000 Americans who call D.C. home. This is the gravest threat to Home Rule that the District has ever faced, and we are fighting to stop it," Schwalb said. DC Mayor Muriel Bowser and Schwalb late Thursday, calling the move "unlawful."Bondi also revoked DC's sanctuary city policies.
[Bondi] has ordered an END to dangerous sanctuary policies in Washington, DC", wrote the Department of Justice's Chad Gilmartin. In the order, Bondi lamented the state of crime in the city, saying "[t]hese dangers are multiplied by the District's sanctuary city policies, which actively shield criminal aliens from the consequences required by federal law." "The proliferation of illegal aliens into our country during the prior Administration, including into our Nation's capital, presents extreme public safety and national security risks to our country," she continued.

I am wondering if a lot of these things are also working from the... Nazi aura.

1) You see this in a lot of evaluations of the Germans in WWII. They have this... deadly mystique thing going on. Wonder weapons and razor edged men. This is not reality, Some of their guys were good, but they also had a lot of psychos. Additionally they had some great innovations in equipment- that were usually overengineered and complicated. But the reputation colors people's perceptions of reality. This also meant that people reacted to the perceived abilities of the germans as much as their actual abilities. (There are more historical examples of this Robert E Lee, Romans especially, British Navy, our own Marines now, etc.)
2) The press and left have spent the past 5 years saying that Trump and his henches are BRUTAL, DEADLY enemies who would just as soon flay you alive as look at you.
I wonder if this is having the benefit of making people (wrongly) scared shitless of his goons showing up?

The district as created by the Constitution is part of Article I, a Congressional concern.
The 1978 (?) law that allowed for it to have its own government includes this provision that allows the president to exert control over it for 30 days in an emergency.

I gotta say, the petty viciousness and gobsmacking lack of decorum by which these judges are attacking Trump is getting more brazen.
They would never, ever write orders like they are writing toward an ordinary defendant.
And would never, ever berate a criminal defendant's attorney with such dismissive tones as they are using against Trump.
It's complete arrogance, an aristocracy that thinks they are above the Executive Branch, above everyone, not equal.

On a totally different topic: my husband told me he dreamed last night he somehow bit off the end of his tongue and I bossily said, "Well, you just bought yourself a trip to the ED, buster." The kids knew this from childhood, and knew about neutrophils fighting viruses from an early age...I called them Pac Men so they'd understand. They are amazed they survived as am I.
I dreamed we were in the Navy or something, in a long room of cots (some people were former classmates of mine; laundry was discussed). I dreamed my boyfriend/husband put our cots together and were kissing.
Apparently I bit off his tongue as our dreams crossed during the morning. This is the price to pay for being together for decades. You cannot escape even in your sleep! Which is good! It is more than finishing sentences, I guess. We may be starting to look alike.

I've been happy to be called a Trump-cultist, but it's been very clear to me for a long time that Trump surpassed Ronaldus Magnus. I've also been brutal in looking back at the things that Reagan either did (Amnesty) or didn't do (hit Iran after the Beirut bombing) that we've had to live with since.
That said, Reagan was exactly the man we and the world needed when he was POTUS, and no one else here could have filled his shoes. He was a great president - full stop. However, I couldn't help but notice that Reagan was born in 1911, Nixon in 1913 and JFK in 1917. They are all men from a certain period, and they all lived in the shadow of FDR. That gives a certain perspective to their actions as POTUS.

I've been happy to be called a Trump-cultist, but it's been very clear to me for a long time that Trump surpassed Ronaldus Magnus. I've also been brutal in looking back at the things that Reagan either did (Amnesty) or didn't do (hit Iran after the Beirut bombing) that we've had to live with since.
That said, Reagan was exactly the man we and the world needed when he was POTUS, and no one else here could have filled his shoes. He was a great president - full stop. However, I couldn't help but notice that Reagan was born in 1911, Nixon in 1913 and JFK in 1917. They are all men from a certain period, and they all lived in the shadow of FDR. That gives a certain perspective to their actions as POTUS.

Yeah, I can see Bondi's appointment as unlawful. She can (at the direction of Trump) take on the duties of law enforcement, but I doubt that she or Trump have any authority to take over staffing.

There are approximately 1,700 Federal Judges active on the bench. The total appointed by Obama, Clinton and Biden that are still active is about 500 Judges (give or take a few...the number is fluid).
That means Federal Judges appointed by Republicans is about 71% of all Federal Judges.
AND YET, in almost all these challenge TRO cases it seems to be assigned to a Democrat appointed Judge an unlikely percentage of the time (probably over 80% or higher).
Considering case assignment is supposed to be random...it does not appear to be the case. I'd like to see the DOJ bring this issue to light and highlight it...and go so far as to suggest that perhaps that the selection process should be more visible. (Lottery process that can be attended by plaintiff and defense)

Yes, but it is a bit strange. Congress critters are exempt. People who work there and live in MD, VA, WVA and other states do not pay DC income tax.
That leaves the local residents, and people who rent property, or own a DC business and may live in other states (only on the DC income), stuck with the bill.
