Disclaimer: Under this busy shopping street in Japan there's more than 80 hidden restaurants and I'm trying every one of them. Out of my comfort zone I go in completely blind. I order what they recommend, and based on taste alone, I rank them on a tier list. Some are incredible, and some are inedible.

8 Feeling lousy. Knee painful. Hardly slept last night. Bought a knee brace which is relieving 85% of the pain but I'm super headachy and I've got work to do.

Mrs. BD's x-ray yesterday confirmed pneumonia. She's on 2 antibiotics, one stronger than the other.

And we have more pups and grandpups arriving tonight in addition to the ones that are already here.

And then there's the extreme heatwave. Record breaker since the time they started recording temperatures in Israel.

Air conditioning and the fridge's icemaker are G-dsends!

26 So on the recommendation of another Moron, I found a thread on the SwedeSpeed Volvo forum that looked very promising on how to change out a trailing arm bushing.

5 hours later, I finally get just the center of the old bushing removed.

This looks like a good way to do it, but it isn't easy.

46 "Does it involve a torch and sledgehammer?"

No, but at one point a sawz-all is considered to be necessary.

And that didn't work.

And using a drill to drill out the rubber part of the bushing in such a tight location did work. But not quickly, nor easily.

And now I have the outer shell of the bushing still in the sub-frame. So I need to cut through that in at least one spot, then drive the shell in toward the center of the opening and break it free from the subframe.

I'll have to look at that in more detail when I get home.

What makes me laugh about the TeaOnHer app is this: I get the notion of wanting to pay women back for stuff like this but how could they think that the same vulnerabilities wouldn't be used on this app?

Of course working in the tech field for as long as I have has made me distrustful of technology to the point of thinking an isolated cabin ain't necessarily a bad thing.

Larry Correia once talked about how the LDS church has separate services for young adults only which is a pretty smart approach as well.

My annoyance is that women are getting taught that the solution to a bad date is filing rape charges and ruining his life and men are getting taught that women simply aren't worth the trouble any more.

No real room for any of those. Probable a dremel with a grinding or carbide bit, and slowly grind out a groove axially, then try to collapse the outer shell.

I am continually astonished at the obsession our "betters" seem to have now with "street food." Didn't their mothers tell them not to touch, much less *eat*, anything they found on the street???

My DNA includes sitting at an indoor table, with plates and utensils, and food prepared in a clean indoor kitchen. Frequently my own.

65 Pulling the thread on the Puerto Rico comment, it's kind of puzzling, Spirit Airlines is going broke due to lack of demand but international travel is booming. Other carriers are somewhat reducing domestic routes also. But planes are jammed and summer weather delays and cancellations are a daily occurrence with takeoff and landing slots maxed out.

74 Glen Campbell was a wonder when he burst onto the scene in '67 or so with "By the Time I Get to Phoenix." Then he continued that streak with many more hits, esp. "Gentle on My Mind," an amazing poem set to music. "Lineman" is one of his classics.

Then he reinvented himself in '70s country and pop with "Rhinestone Cowboy," "Southern Nights," and more.

He was not an actor to burn up the silver screen. I've come to appreciate his Texas Ranger in True Grit, but his performance as the title character in Norwood (which I went to see because Kim Darby) is nothing special. He deserves to be remembered because of his music and his incredible skills on the guitar. There is a clip on YooToob of him doing, get this, the William Tell Overture on the guitar backed by an orchestra. Amazing.

Senator Van Hollen last seen checking for nearby restaurants that have good margaritas.

Posted by: NR Pax at August 14, 2025 06:49 AM (NR6c1)

101 The sandwich contained grilled sausages and an Italian summer vegetable called 'cime di rapa' or turnip tops, similar to broccoli.

Nine people are being investigated by the authorities, including the owner of the food truck on the seafront in the province of Cosenza whose vehicle as been seized.

Three employers of the company who allegedly made the sandwich are also being investigated, as well as five doctors who treated victims near the city of Cosenza.

It was botulism.

The sandwich in the picture doesn’t really look like broccoli but it does look downright disgusting.

There’s no way I’d eat something like that off of a food truck.

125 Kinda makes you want to do an on-site pre-inspection of the food truck before you take a risk.

I suppose if it looks clean, they have a working fridge and they cook the meat in front of you, you could take a chance.

People have been eating hot dogs and sausage dogs out of carts (and gas stations) for multiple decades, so there’s at least one group of vendors who have this thing figured out.
