The judge can hear the footsteps behind him.

A Washington, D.C., judge has ordered the two teens charged in the attack on a former Department of Government Efficiency staffer to remain in the city's juvenile detention center, rejecting requests for less restrictive detention.
The boy and girl, each 15, were charged in the Aug. 3 attack on Edward Coristine, a 19-year-old, as they were allegedly trying to carjack a vehicle in Northwest D.C. The attack was followed by President Trump announcing that he plans to take over the D.C. police and deploy the National Guard.

U.S. Attorney for D.C. Jeanine Pirro said Monday that the city protects violent youths from consequences.
"They go to family court, and they get to do yoga and arts and crafts," Pirro said. "Enough. It changes today."

The media and Democrats -- pardon the redundancy -- are taking their typical approach to the horrors they have created: Denying those horrors exist at all.

I'm sitting here stunned -- and I'm the most cynical guy in the universe -- that the Democrats have decided to dig in on the position that it is bad for Trump to stop crime in Washington DC because stopping crime as fascism and Washington DC doesn't have a crime problem anyway.
It's like the Democrats convened a council of renowned idiots to come up with the stupidest possible position, the one that's going to alienate the most normal people, and then the Democrats dig to defend it.

In one case, the vile media propagandists point to carjackings falling in 2024 as proof of improvement.

The problem is: They fell in 2024 after an absolute all-time high in 2023, and they are still far, far above the levels before the left decided that a drug-dealer's heart attack required nothing short of making Crime Legal for Black People.

That's a 547% increase.
But sure, let's entertain the idea 2023 was an outlier and compare to 2024, which Democrats love to point to:
497 carjackings in 2024 is still TRIPLE the number seen in 2018.

The Democrats and Media -- again I redundize myself -- cite the DC Metropolitan Police's own numbers to claim that crime has declined.

Except for murder, which is at a historic high. But is murder really a violent crime? I mean, it ends one person's suffering. Isn't that sort of a mercy killing?

But the DC MPD has been caught repeatedly faking their crime stats. For example, a home invasion will be categorized for their public reports as a simple trespass.

This is a lie, of course. The reason they do this is so they can classify most of their home invasions as "trespasses" and most of their carjackings as thefts. They keep downgrading the seriousness of their crimes so that in a few key areas they can "the numbers are down."

But they've actually been caught faking the stats:

CNN's fake fact checker and dweeby Regime propagandist Daniel Dale roused himself to "fact check" the proposition that crime is high in DC. He claims it's not, citing the cooked statistics of the MPD.

In order to claim that crime in DC is "down," you have to ignore a) The former police commissioner who was suspended for fudging crime stats b) most people never get charged and are released onto the streets c) a lot of crime never gets reported d) the murder rate has doubled in the last decade and e) no one in their right mind would say it's safe to walk in southwest or anacostia at 11 pm.

They just can't stop lying. As you might know, DC is facing a lot of crime by underaged thugs. The thugs who beat up Big Balls and tried to carjack a woman's car were all 12-15, for example.

But DC has made it almost impossible to prosecute these Youths.

When MSNBC did their "fact" check, they "forgot" to include the juvenile offenders immunized from prosecution in their figures, as if a carjacking perpetrated by six violent young psychopaths doesn't "count" as crime.

The crime reporting in this country is an actual serious problem. Something like 1/3 of police departments dont share their numbers with the feds or use the feds system and classifications and just decide how and what to report on their own.

Every major city in the US has been caught (multiple times) fudging their crime numbers that they release.

Most major cities (and Im sure less major cities) try to downplay crimes for political purposes. An example would be what ace pointed out - classifying burglaries / home invasions as trespassing or other property crimes.

And this has been going on for decades.

The truth is we have no "real" numbers on crimes in this country which is an absurd state of reality in 2025 and is yet another example of our government blatantly lying to our faces and being completely unaccountable to the voters.

Yes. The corruption of reality and real numbers starts at the partisan local level. Local county clerks, local county nurses, loan police stations, local motor vehicle departments, local city offices...all of them CORRUPTED by whichever side is ruling the roost in any given year and giving explicit instructions of *how* data is to be recorded, and *what* data isn't "relevant" to the current office holders. By the time you do a nation-wide rollup on any measurement, you have a nation-wide number that has almost no relevance because the data itself was corrupted from the moment it was collected.

COVID was the best example of intentionally corrupted data, but it started long before that.

Well depending on who you are. I feel disgusted but not scared in Harlem but im sure Id feel differently if I were a young attractive woman or an older person or even a tourist.

If youre not an easy victim and you dont make eye contact with anyone and act like you belong there youll most likely be fine anywhere in NYC (or probably the entire country.)

But thats not how we should be forced to live. It should not be the norm that people in the upper east side have to talk the metro north to grand central than the subway back up to go home when 125th street station is so much closer.

But many people I know do exactly that.

I felt safe in the Upper West Side near Harlem when we'd go there a few times a year. Became outraged when I saw the Lucerne, where we always stayed, given over to the sad migrants. The entire hotel. For months. Along with other hotels in the area. Ruined forever, a residential area.

There is not enough pest control to ever have me return to NYC. It would take Giuliani on steroids to clean that scum out now.

The only time I felt a bit jittery was on a subway (with my husband) to see the Brooklyn Botanical Garden, which was safe. The areas near not so great.

His parents were from Queens. It's all bad from the little I read. Glad we saw it during prime, again thanks to Mayor Giuliani. Our first trip was in 1999. Last in 2010.

Where the hospital is? That area is fine. I drive through there all the time. I think you're thinking of some place else. I personally wouldn't want to live there, but in terms of safety that area is probably 10x better than South Bronx.

Stop paying them tax dollars to pop out fatherless kids and you'll get fewer fatherless kids. Reform family law especially as to child support and alimony and you'll get fewer still.

It is well known in criminology circles, yet not really voiced much, that urban area murderers and their victims share a key similarity--they both have criminal records. Often very serious offenses and this represents the majority of murders in urban areas sometimes up to 70-90 percent depending on the city. Also true for family violence perps--majority have criminal records and even the victims do over 20 percent of the time.

Chicago, New Orleans, Baltimore, St. Louis, etc

Most crime fiction and movie/tv ignore that normal people don't normally just 'snap'--most people find it very difficult to kill even in war.

But if you are socialized in the wrong way, violence and criminal action simply becomes a tool to get what you want and sometimes it gets you killed.

Varies wildly and depends what youre looking for. No doorman in the "quiet" upper east side in a building built in the 1940s? You can find a place for say $3500 if you look long and hard enough and are willing to not have a washer dryer in building or potentially be on a fourth floor walk up.

Modern building in FiDi or Hells Kitchen / Chelsea area with amenities? Easy to spend twice that on a good day.

The original VA side of DC across the Potomac was already ceded back to VA before the Civil War (IIRC 1840's). This only requires a simple law rather than an amendment. Voila, DC residents become residents of Maryland no two D senators, etc. Maryland would get another congressional seat and that would be about it.

There is some argument about the "warrior gene" (controls impulsivity) and all of that. But I think its overwhelmingly cultural.

Which is why im so anti immigration. I think culture is by far the most important variable. And thats something that starts with socialization at birth.

People dont easily change their core values / beliefs / views on the world past the age of say 10 or so.

I got interested in how "DC works" last night as far as what we think of as local/state law level. D.C. is a federal enclave and is not a state. The federal govt has to play the role of local and state level law within.

The history there is long and convoluted. The Home Rule thing around 1970 allowed D.C. to have a locally elected local govt type thing, but still the "sovereignty" as we think of it as a state level is entirely Congress and the federal govt.

The US Attorney for D.C. plays a dual role there as a normal federal law US attorney, but also as local DA for what would be state and local crimes in a normal state.

I lived in DC during the early 80's during the Marion Berry era of misrule. Some poor guy got murdered a couple of doors down where I lived on Capitol Hill and I remember coming home about 11 and seeing the cop cars and outline on the pavement where he was shot.

Step grandfather came to DC in the thirties with his father (worked for an AL congress critter). He later worked as a clerk for Hoover's FBI before going to work for the US Administrative Office of the Courts. He moved out to Maryland during the 60's due to deterioration of DC crime wise but still went to church in the old neighborhood (PA Avenue SE DC). I lived behind Scotus off of A Street SE and can remember Sen John Stennis getting beat up and mugged a few blocks away near his apartment building.

Civil rights era rioting pretty much put the city into a doom loop for awhile.

Part of it is a combination of low iq (which is accurate enough to classify people not necessarily that 135 is much greater than 130 but subnormal, normal, upper normal, and genius. The other part is time horizons--those with short time preferences which appears to be genetic in origin are much more likely to resort to amoral actions to get what they want if they can.

Combine subnormal iq and short time preferences--you get the muggers, robbers, and other violent street criminals. As the iq increases and the very short becomes the moderately short time preference, you get a higher sort of crime that requires planning, etc. in order to get away with it.

There is a reason that very few inmates can play the long con--they simply do not have the time preferences needed to pull it off nor the iq to fool people for long periods of time. So long con artists are the geniuses of their criminal trade.

Their may be some genetic component in both whites and blacks for this sort of bad behavior, but I lean toward bad upbringing as most of the problem.

To be fair, there is a lot of insights buried in welfare policy. For example, Sen Patrick Moynihan who worked for HEW during the Nixon years as a pracademic, had a quite excellent study of the problems in the early 70's with welfare policy and blacks. It was ignored by policymakers because it mentioned unpalatable and unpleasant realities to what they had done and planned to do.

Sowell got that from a certain generation of sociologists using historical analysis. Most of that analysis turned out to be bullshit when closely scrutinized (derived from genealogical studies of where in England that settlers originated).

Typical issue was widespread drunkenness leading to crimes which is still a big factor today. You take away reason from a person by substances and they are quite likely to do unreasonable things.

If you want some fun with that--look up the supporting studies in Oklahoma's brief in the Scotus case of Craig v. Boren. Oklahoma had a 21 requirement for males to drink, 18 for women.
