Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Howard Stern "Stunned" by News That Sirius Wants Done With HimBefore getting to that, some facts about Howard Stern's show. According to Maureen Callahan: 1. He has a staff of 95. What? 2. Sirius pays him $120 million per year to produce the show. I assume the lion's share of that goes into Stern's pocket. 3. The usual morning host works 250 days per year. Five days a week, fifty weeks per year. Stern, on the other hand, works 112 days per year. Three days a week, Monday through Wednesday, and for only 37 weeks per year. Fifteen weeks off per year. In addition, the days of four or five or even six hour shows are long, long gone. Apparently he now only does three hour shows. 4. Also, he no longer does the news. Which is fine, considering his cranky underbridge-troll wokeness. Apparently he's now picking up the guitar at age 71, which is fine -- I'm all for late in life learning -- but then he talks incessantly about his guitar lessons and has his guitar teacher on the air to talk about his Guitar Journey. Wow. A bitter old hippie pervert talking about having trouble nailing the chords to "Smoke on the Water." Sounds like appointment viewing. Callahan also discusses this leaked video. In 2013, Stern held a staff meeting in an auditorium called "Revolution 2013." It's so gay. Even then he realized his ratings and relevance were on the slide, because he spends the first 17 minutes demanding that his staff "blast" emails to publicists to let them know that Howard Stern still exists. Then he turns to demanding that the staff book guests who don't want to be on the show, claiming, absurdly, that Jerry Seinfeld and David Lettermen owe him big-time for making them stars, and so they are obligated to appear on the show again. I always thought that Stern's constant claims to have "innovated" everything in talk radio was a put-on. Sure, I figured that there was some truth to him feeling insufficiently acknowledged as a media star, but I thought that 90% of his constant complaining that he's never recognized for, say, the "innovation" of long interviews with guests was mostly exaggerated for comedic effect. This video shows that no, even when he's not doing a show and just berating his staff, he really believes he's owed huge credit for (checks notes) launching the careers of Jerry Seinfeld and David Letterman. It also shows that his staff hates him, because who else would leak this except for an enemy? I missed this Daily Mail article from last week. The reporters make it sound like Sirius is not engaging in aggressive bargaining with Stern just to reduce his demands for the new contract (the old one expires in Decemberbut really want to sever ties. There's a reason Howard Hughes was never a great radio personality. If you just sit in your house all day wearing a face-diaper because you're still afraid of covid -- what do you even have to talk about? No seriously let me know because I'm way more homebound than I should be and I need a list of topics that non-hermits find interesting. Seriously what the hell do normal people talk about? ... By 5.30pm, the group had split; some going bar hopping in Hell's Kitchen while others taking dinner at Japanese restaurant, Benihana. That's when the lifechanging the bombshell dropped: a news alert claimed Stern was on the verge of walking away from SiriusXM altogether because the station couldn't come close to meeting his financial demands for another contract. 'The mood changed quickly. No one knew this was coming... and we couldn't get any answers,' one stunned insider said. Repeated calls to executive producer Gary Dell'Abate went unanswered. What staff didn't know was the bombshell came as a shock to Stern himself, who received it via a Google Alert as he finished dinner after a walk on the beach. His famous friends were quick to call, with Stern allegedly avoiding calls from Ali Wentworth [George Stephanopolous's wife] and Jimmy Fallon. He did, however, pick up the phone when longtime friend Jimmy Kimmel rang. 'First I'm hearing of it,' was all a reportedly stunned Stern could manage. Multiple sources confirmed Stern decided to make an 'emergency show' on Wednesday morning to quell concerns he was finished. But apparently that show was just an interview with Lars from Metallica. All Stern said about his show was that he would be back from his nth hiatus on September 2nd. He claims he's ready to prove to the world he's still got it. And by "it" he means a spastic colon. A source exclusively tells the Daily Mail that a 'pumped up' Stern is ready to 'prove people wrong again' and is confident he is still 'the best' at his craft as he considers a future outside of SiriusXM. 'He is in a bring-it-on mind frame right now. Howard likes what he likes and though he could be bitter on how things are going, it isn't anything new to him', the insider said. 'He also isn't blaming things on his age; the world has changed. He has changed himself. If he didn't, he would have been gone a long time ago. 'It is true, he doesn't like the uptick of podcasts, where everyone can be on the radio, he just thinks he is the best and there is a lot to learn from him rather than throwing him away.'LOL. Sad! BTW, Stern is incredibly egotistical while also having an eggshell-fragile ego -- a bad combination, which you see a lot -- and has for years been slagging off podcasters for being more relevant than he is. Now he's whining that the podcasters he attacks should "learn from him rather than throwing him away." For now, Stern has plans to potentially join huge streamers HBO or Netflix - in a bid to bring his career to an end 'on his own terms.' The source continued: 'All this unknown is music to Howard's ears. He thrives in this element of the unknown.'Obviously. The 71-year-old who's too afraid to come out of his basement and complains that his Southampton neighbors don't wear face-nappies when they're at the beach is very thrilled by chaos and the unknown. He certainly sees his impending firing and discarding as an opportunity. Absolutely I believe this. 'He needs to deal with a personal bad guy in the situation. In the past it was NBC, just watch his movie. 'Then it was Simon Cowell, look at the fallout of AGT and now the honeymoon might be over with Sirius after almost 20 years, but he still wants to figure something out to stay, especially for his team that would mostly be affected. So they mean that Howard Stern can't really flourish without an Enemy he can direct all of his stinky spleen at. That's been true before, but... No one cares any more. No one is going to pay money to hear Stern complain that his bosses at Sirius gave Andy F***ing Cohen more attention and respect than they gave him. 'And now if the fallout continues with Sirius, he has made roads elsewhere to potentially do something with HBO or Netflix. It is not all bad if this goes bad. His story isn't done. 'Because he wants it to all end on his own terms. He believes he deserves that for all that he has done in the medium.'I suppose it's possible they offer him some kind of a deal to do ten one-hour shows or something, like they gave Letterman. But he's a very damaged brand with a limited audience and falling ratings. How much money does Stern think he'll be able to command at this point? What kind of audience does he think he still has? I wish someone would ask Chuck Schumer what the Bailey's think about Stern. Or anything.
I have always felt Stern to be a gross shock jock scumbag (a word I learned from my NY husband that I love as much as the word, "douchebag." Another favorite word. Stern is a douchebag, which, I think, is worse than a scumbag. Unsure. I always thought that Stern's constant claims to have "innovated" everything in talk radio was a put-on.
Let's compare lasting impacts. Stern said some naughty things and pushed boundaries of decorum. Lefties tell me Rush Limbaugh single-handedly brainwashed multiple generations of Americans into becoming istaphobic monsters that have kept the Republicans competitive for over 30 years, and he so completely dominated AM radio that it overwhelmed all other forms of media combined. ++++ Even if true - and I doubt it, especially in Letterman's case, given his age - it doesn't mean dick. Stern knows that. Show business is cut throat. There are no friends, and there are no enemies. There are just money, power, influence and sex. That's it. End of list. So Stern did them a favor (real or imagined)? So what. It's a business of whores, liars and con men. It's the ultimate mercenary business outside of literal soldiers of fortune - and they could probably give the soldiers of fortune a run for their money. Posted by: Key Grip at August 12, 2025 05:02 PM (G5+As) ++++ Maybe. A TV show, in total? Yeah. A lot more. The staff of the *host*? Not necessarily. Writers, the producer, the guy who gives the star a handy on break, etc. That should be pretty similar. Nothing inherently "more" about TV in that respect. But I suspect all of the technical people are on Stern's payroll rather than SiriusXM's, though I am not sure about that. As opposed to, say, Kimmel. I was a big fan of Stern, from when he first showed up in Philly in 1986. I was 18, Stern's wacked-out brand of radio was right up my alley, especially compared to the idiotic "morning zoo" crap that dominated the airwaves. Whatever happened to, "At some point you've made enough money?"
Seems like Howie could stop broadcasting tomorrow and live comfortably the rest of his life, even if he spent it all on hookers and blow. Posted by: "Perfessor" Squirrel at August 12, 2025 05:04 PM (7fElN) ++++ Definitely. But I also think it actually *isn't* about the money. The money is a symbol, not a driving force. It's a symbol of his status. His influence. His importance. His relevance. His industrial and social power. Once you're up at that level, the money pales in comparison to that which it symbolizes. The pain of this kind of development isn't the fear of losing a paycheck or going broke, it's the inversion of those symbols. He no longer has the status. He no longer has the influence. He is no longer important. He is no longer relevant. He no longer wields tremendous industrial and social power. Those symbols vanish because they became unreal some time before. *That* is the trauma, and it's real. It doesn't mean he's undeserving of it, just don't get lost in the dollars and cents. They don't matter. Their importance is only in the downstream implications. Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at August 12, 2025 05:08 PM (6bTRc) 156

Now that I think about it, Howard and Gene Simmons seem to have a lot in common especially as they enter the twilight years. Posted by: Big Fat Meanie at August 12, 2025 05:09 PM (qwx/I) 158

All I have to add is this.
I think there is a lot of leverage for a near-daily show with a lot of listeners to make people tune in regular. This market is highly sensitive to habit (social media is the same.) I think a guy like Rogan got past that, and people tune in irregularly when he has a good guest. He knows how to keep on top of things people are talking about, or are going to talk about. So Rogan could get away with irregular shows and still be a draw. Stern-- when was the last time his name came up in anything you all have seen? Besides his lunacy over covid, and now being fired, he is a non-issue. He thought he was big and could get away with 117 shows a year. But disappear for two weeks and people lose the habit. Do that for 10 years and your audience is gone. So I see that as his main failing. Posted by: Reverend Al Sharpton (before he got AIDS) at August 12, 2025 05:22 PM (vjkEj) 223

If tariffs increase on, say, a BMW, and I and others buy fewer BMW's as a result, How INTHEFUCK does that tariff "increase inflation?"
Answer: It doesn't. The idiotic fake bullshit notion that tariffs = inflation is fuckingdumb. Posted by: Soothsayer knows his Star Wars lore at August 12, 2025 05:27 PM (SDRTK) According to Modern Monetary Theory which is all the rage these days you control inflation via taxes. Government can spend all it wants and if things get inflationary they just raise taxes and remove some of the money from circulation. So how can we square that circle with the idea that tariffs cause inflation? The answer is we cant and the media / deep state is just glomming on to the word "inflation" because they think everyone is a retard and that the word "inflation" is why Trump won in 2024. So theyre trying to turn that around on him. Its literal retard level of public discourse at this point. Posted by: Harry Paratestes at August 12, 2025 05:34 PM (zF/pB) 280
Fuck. ace is right, the furry ankle fucker.
According to Bloodrock guitarist Lee Pickens, the origin of the song is about an airplane incident he encountered when he was a teenager. When I was 17, I wanted to be an airline pilot. I had just gotten out of this airplane with a friend of mine, at this little airport, and I watched him take off. He went about 200 feet in the air, rolled and crashed. The band decided to write a song about the incident and it was featured on their sophomore album. The song peaked at #36 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1971, but many radio stations and high schools in the United States banned the song due to its content. 1) Movies about pets making a trek to reunite with their owners. 2) Weather- when weather really starts to weather, you don't know whether it will be stormy weather. Good topic to broach with fair-weather friends, as it is not likely to veer into the controversial, (just don't mention anthropomorphic global warming.) 3) Baseball, huh. 4) High Plains Drifter is just an uncredited remake of Shane. 5) When did white cake become synonymous with birthday cake? 6) Etymology. 7) You have to trade one of the Seven Dwarfs for one of the Ninja Turtles. Who do you trade? Think of the question from both the pov of Snow White and Shredder. ![]() 9) Did I remember to unplug the toaster? 10) Woodrow Wilson or Barack Obama- who's legacy is more damaging? Posted by: Crusader at August 12, 2025 05:30 PM (TN0g+) Probably the same one. Heaven knows what is growing on those masks. I knew FROM THE START that masks did mostly nothing. But I had N95's and dispensed them to people I wanted to live (not my sister-in-laws). Paper masks don't do squat! I wanted to yell. But I did not want to call attention to myself and stayed in my castle, protecting my toilet paper and dried foods. This being sleep deprived is almost as good as how I felt in college parties for sarcasm. But without the energy, nor the reasons behind living it up. The reason is our DIL is having a new baby anytime now. She could sneeze and hello! So we had the siblings who had to be out the door at 0715 for school. Our granddaughter looked feral as I don't know how to do her hair. We then went back to bed. And we will have to do this again at some point in the next week or so as it was apparently a trial run. Not that anyone could possibly care about this in 2025, but one of Stern's dirtiest secrets is that he stole his entire shtick from Steve Dahl who popularized shock jockey in Chicago shortly before Stern tried it.
The story was that Stern would get tapes of Dahl and study them. That's fine. That's fair, but then Stern went out of his way to disparage Dahl over the years. Like, why be so pointlessly petty?
