Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | The Morning RantCharles Brown WNBA Product asked if I would fill in for him. Something about Bourbon, oysters & the end of times. So here goes....................... Unless you really are under the age of 29 you really don't know much about or remember the CBS Dan Rather hatchet job on George W. Bush on September 8, 2004. Rather lost his job. GW became POTUS. CBS spent some money defending Rather's lawsuit regarding termination and kept it's license. Fast forward 20 years and CBS's '60 Minutes' wanted to influence a presidential election again. Once again it was proven you cannot make a silk purse out of a CBS News parent company Paramount has agreed to settle President Donald Trump's lawsuit that accuses CBS's flagship news program, 60 Minutes, of editing an interview last year to benefit then-presidential candidate Kamala Harris. CBS and Paramount will pay a sum that could exceed $30 million in total, according to a source familiar. Paramount said it will pay $16 million upfront to cover Trump's legal expenses and donate to his future presidential library, according to multiple reports Wednesday. As part of the settlement, the company also agreed to release full written transcripts of future 60 Minutes interviews with presidential candidates. In addition to the lump sum payment, it is anticipated that CBS will air eight figures worth of advertisements, PSAs, or similar content promoting conservative causes for free, a source familiar with the negotiations and settlement deal told the Washington Free Beacon. While Paramount's current brass has disputed that provision, the incoming management team that is expected to take over after the company's merger with Skydance plans to honor it, the source said. Now fast forward and CBS once again (Aug. 9, 2025 / JNS) The big news yesterday was President Trump's taking over the Washington DC policing. If I were a real journalist instead of a measly COB I would have asked the following question. Washington DC crime stats show an interesting drop in reported crime. Is there any dispute about the current crime stats????? Washington DC police commander suspended regarding crime stats. A D.C. police commander is under investigation for allegedly making changes to crime statistics in his district. The Metropolitan Police Department confirmed Michael Pulliam was placed on paid administrative leave in mid-May. That happened just a week after Pulliam filed an equal employment opportunity complaint against an assistant chief and the police union accused the department of deliberately falsifying crime data, according to three law enforcement sources familiar with the complaint. The union claims police supervisors in the department manipulate crime data to make it appear violent crime has fallen considerably compared to last year. Pulliam — the former commander of the 3rd District that patrols Adams Morgan and Columbia Heights — was placed on leave with pay and told he was under investigation for questionable changes to crime data, five law enforcement sources familiar with the investigation told News4.This is how CBS reported the crime stats of DC. Hegseth said the Guard was formally mobilized Monday morning and would be "flowing into the streets of Washington in the coming week." In an accompanying executive order, Mr. Trump wrote that the deployment "shall remain in effect until I determine that conditions of law and order have been restored in the District of Columbia." Violent crime in D.C. has been declining for the last year and a half after spiking in 2023, according to local police data. So far this year, robberies have dropped by 28% and overall violent crime is down 26%, as of Aug. 11. Last year, violent crime in the capital city hit its lowest level in more than 30 years, the Justice Department said.WTF! How many free search engines do you have to ignore that a DC PD Commander was suspended for allegedly changing crime stats? Even if the crime rates did lower in Washington, DC, its crime rate still exceeds the national average by three to four percent. A 2-15 NFL team that improves by 28% is still a losing NFL team. CBS is a pathetic joke and should be relegated to the bowels of free streaming crap. Channel designation FAFO would be a fitting. Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

WaPo and CBS have managements that are attempting reform; but they're finding out the hard way that the only way to to do that successfully is to fire everyone who works there, and start from scratch.
and that's a Gary Oldman "Everyone!" The catch-22 means that the outlet also has to go to zero readership for a while, and hope to have enough financial durability to last until it builds up some credibility again. All told, it's probably easier to just fold the thing and start from scratch, with something that doesn't have baggage. Posted by: Tom Servo at August 12, 2025 11:03 AM (uWKK8) 7

IIRC anti-RKBA types generally mix and match suicide stats with murder stats. So if you see "guns are more likely to be used in a crime then to defend yourself" the numbers they use count suicide as homicide. Old scam got an upgrade with AI. Just a friendly warning. If you're like me, you've gotten telephone calls over the years where someone pretends to be a son or daughter that was arrested in another state, and needs you to send money for bail. I always looked forward to these calls, because they were so outlandishly amateurish. The caller sounds nothing like any of your kids. Maybe they even have an accent. It was hilarious, and I played along right up to the moment I didn't.
Well, the upgrade is that scammers are now sampling any voice put up on social media, researching their family and using AI to communicate with "unsuspecting" parents. They keep a library of phrases available to try and make it seem like a legit conversation. As AI gets better, so will this scam. So, heads up. I'm wary that a lot of people are dumb enough to fall for this. Posted by: Orson at August 12, 2025 11:14 AM (dIske) 50

It's harder to do so for murder because there's an actual body. Anything less than a murder, it can be much more easily ignored. Violent beating? Sure, it happened, but if I put it down as "misdemeanor assault", then it's not violent crime. Robbery, mugging, etc... can all be similarly manipulated without outright forgery. (WE REPORTED IT! Some tips: - Keep the windows rolled up at all times. (A short discussion on what to do in summer if you don't have A/C was to roll the windows up "half way.") - Drive in the center lane to avoid carjacking. - Don't travel alone. - At lights or stop signs leave enough room to get around other vehicles in the event of violence. 24 11 Can you fake homicide crime stats? I mean, there's a dead body and all.
Serious question. I guess anything is possible. Posted by: Elric The Blade ===== Yes. Coroners report deaths as accidental, indeterminate, etc. British have a grand term for it--death by misadventure. Another trick is simply not to report all of them using some internal bullshit filter to lessen the impact. And murders are the MOST honest crime statistic, as you go down the scale, the problem becomes much worse. One of the reasons cops and prosecutors loved illegal possession of drug or felons in possession of firearms is that mere possession was enough to get violent criminals off the street for awhile. Much easier to process than the actual crimes that they were investigating the felon for. Same as Al Capone went to prison for tax evasion--not his multiple murders, etc. Posted by: whig at August 12, 2025 11:17 AM (ctrM5) Posted by: Archimedes at August 12, 2025 11:17 AM (Riz8t) 64

And every time they say Trump has evil intentions when he is trying to accomplish something good or "he doesn't care about people" when he is moved to correct a situation causing suffering. Posted by: Emmie at August 12, 2025 11:20 AM (FMtrg) 77

Posted by: Formerly Virginian ====== As someone who worked with crime stats back in the day, you would be wrong. Any statistic can and will be manipulated if it can cause discomfort and trouble for those in higher office. For example, often badly decomposed bodies (often women) are found around urban areas so often these are written off as indeterminate causes of death if no obvious signs of foul play can be determined. Because it COULD be drug OD or some other natural cause and because no one gives a shit about street people--their deaths frequently go unreported or reported as simply missing. Euroland, btw, is particularly bad about this sort of reporting so their actual murder rates are higher than reported. FBI crime reports got so bad even in the 90's by various police departments hiding and manipulating stats that NCVS (National Crime Victimization Survey) data was used to cross check for uncharged prevalence of crimes committed but not reported. They lie about everything. Crime statistics are no different. In fact they are probably massaged more than most.
There’s also a well known phenomenon that occurs if you look at crime maps or “hot spots”. The urban core or city centers will have notably lower crime rates (except for murders and homicides) than suburban outer rings. City dwellers gave up long ago reporting petty or property crimes. There’s no point. Suburban folks aren’t quite so jaded, and have this weird notion that their tax dollars going to the cop shop ought to show some sort of return. And they have insurance still, and a report is needed to file claims. So on paper, it will look like the suburbs are worse. Keep in mind (again) they lie about everything. AND - the “expert” pseudo-intellectual twinks in the ivory towers of Academe assure us that wanting to live free of crime is “white supremacy”. Posted by: Dr. Pork Chops & Bacons ====== Want to be disillusioned of if I see it, it is real--go to any magic show by a competent magician. It is relatively easy to manipulate people using images--harder to do with print. The classic image of one of Stalin's apparatchiks disappearing works for someone who saw the original photo and then the revision. But the person who never saw the original will NEVER see the missing person or even know they existed using photos. Same for videos. Then there is always willful and accidental misinterpretation. St. George of Floyd is an example of that one. To sum up, your eyes can lie. So can print but because it is relatively permanent versus ephemeral impressions of the senses, one can always take printed information and cross check it with other printed information. One that, given the fact that DC is full of the kind of Leftists who twice tried killing him and also so many other violent criminals, it's no longer safe for Your Favorite President, so he's now going to execute his duties from Mar-a-Lago. Secondly that, since DC is a now officially a garbage city for garbage people, and good G-d fearing people in red States don't like garbage people, he's making an outlay from his discretionary budget for them to ship their vagrants and recidivist criminals to DC, where they're welcome. 151 The coroner gets 'persuaded' to report the deaths as accidents, muggings, or suicide by aspirin.
My favorite was Bill Clinton's state medical examiner who ruled a headless body to be death by natural causes; and that the decedent's miniature dog had eaten the head. It’s worse than that. Much.
By affording anonymity to minors, it became quickly apparent they have de facto a license to commit crimes. So guess what? That’s what they do! Worse, adults recruit them, felons, in order to stay out of jail. Leftists don’t do cause and effect. Either that, or perhaps their intentions are malevolent. Stupid or Evil, take yer pick. Or “AND”. I want to know who the juvenile criminals are. I want to know these people so I can avoid them, including future employment. Also, explain to me how a government can claim ownership of the electromagnetic spectrum
——- Broadcast Radio spectrum is limited. “DC to Daylight” is broad, but radio is not. By the 1920s there were dozens of stations broadcasting on the same frequencies, it was a mess. That was why the government stepped in to issue licenses, authorizing a station a specific frequency and power output. Before WWII there were some powerhouses. I think Crosley and 1020 KDKA had an experimental 500,000 watt station, it was something else. People in Europe could hear it. Getting back to the orig question, I still don't understand that a broadcaster pays an ongoing fee to the FCC, as claimed.
Posted by: Receive gp's Free No-Information Obligation Packet The original fees were nominal just to specifically allocate frequencies (same as amateur radio for example). Later, these became a source for governments to make private networks subject to government social control and to make revenue for government. At least in the US, they went along with that because in turn, they got a monopoly on a certain frequency and could exploit it if they followed government rules. But, they also pressured government to make sure that potential competitors had a tough go to break into the market. UHF/VHF tv for example. Posted by: whig at August 12, 2025 11:54 AM (ctrM5) 196

Serious question. I guess anything is possible. Posted by: Elric The Blade at August 12, 2025 11:04 AM (iFTx/) Can you fake climate data? CO2 measurments? Graduation and competency rates? Rape statistics? Payout rates? Vaccine acceptance rates? Bird flu statistics? Traning statistics? Anything that can be hidden, concealed, falsified, or fudged will be if there is enough reason to do so, and they are hard enough to search or unimportant enough to play with. I used to deal with multiple databases while living in a cubical in a room without windows I could see from my dusty desk. I mused quite a bit about the nature of reality, data, and what it would take to falsify things so completely that I would be unable to tell the difference from the databases and reality. I tried to teach others how to check to see if the data held up across supposedly independent databases, and how to determine if databases relied to heavily on each other to be trusted as independent sources, as well. everything is fake and gay, and the chicks often weigh more than you do, so it is a failure that way as well. Oh look at how silly all those who claimed the "Epstein Coverup" was going to be the biggest scandal of all time, by which all scandals forever and ever would be measured, look now.
"What's up? It's your boy, Bennyyyy!" LOL. I ain't always right but dang: Told you not to ride that hobby horse. Anyone could see from 1,000 miles away that: 1) the media was only ever going to focus on Trump and never the 100s of Dems involved 2) the media was only ever pushing it to hurt Trump 3) even, best case, everything comes out, the media was ever only going to focus on Trump 4) and, no matter what came out, none of the victims will ever get justice and none of the Dems involved will ever suffer. Nomination for quote of the week:
everything is fake and gay, and the chicks often weigh more than you do, so it is a failure that way as well. Posted by: Kindltot at August 12, 2025 12:08 PM (rbvCR) Posted by: Comrade Flounder, Disinformation Demon at August 12, 2025 12:13 PM (i24o9) 239

Commissar of Plenty, that's fascinating about your dad's war-time gig. Was not aware we had Japanese-language broadcasts to Japan. Tokyo Rose in reverse.
For some reason I know nothing about Japanese ownership of personal radios and ability to listen to foreign broadcasts, but gonna guess it was minimal. Ironic in a way, when one considers one of post-war Japan's first consumer electronics mainstays and precursor to world dominance (small transistor radios). In any case the kempetai was as vigilant or more so than the German equivalent (Gestapo and SD), lifestyle and culture were not conducive to privacy and secrets. So listening to forbidden broadcasts was probably minimal. Posted by: rhomboid at August 12, 2025 12:20 PM (U/Byj) 241
Worth noting for those in the Horde that are RPG fans that 60 Minutes really kicked off the Satanic Panic over D&D by selectively editing interviews with Gary Gygax and outright misrepresenting facts. They've ALWAYS been horrible.
