THE MORNING RANT: Canada Has Recognized the Nation of Palestine, Trump Should Recognize the Independence of Alberta & Quebec
The Canadian government has announced that it will be recognizing “Palestine” as an independent nation next month. Donald Trump should respond by recognizing the independence of Alberta and Quebec, and offering whatever US security and aid is necessary for those provinces to liberate themselves from the Canadian federation, if requested.
Under Hamas, Palestinians have rejected self-rule under a two-state solution that would include a safe and free Israel living in peace next to Gaza. With the October 7, 2023 invasion and mass murder of Israeli civilians, the Palestinians have made it clear that they will only settle for a one-state solution, in which Israelis are killed en masse. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has now let it be known that he sides with the Palestinians in their murderous zeal to have a Jew-free Palestine “from the river to the sea” where Israel now exists. “Canada says it plans to recognize Palestine as a state, joining the U.K. and France” [CBS – 7/31/2025]Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said Canada will recognize Palestine as a state in September at the United Nations General Assembly, following similar announcements from the United Kingdom and France. I genuinely believe that President Trump’s “Canada as a 51st state” posturing has actually been an “art of the deal” play to make annexing Alberta the compromise position. Once Alberta has safely found refuge under the Stars and Stripes, we should also rescue and annex Saskatchewan too. Canada ultimately is powerless to stop breakaway provinces. Recognition from the United States that Alberta and Quebec are free and independent, and that we will provide all resources and aid necessary to ensure their independence, may be all that is needed to break up the terror-supporting nation of Canada.

Why would we want them? I know it's tempting to characterize Abertans as right-leaning independent cowboy types, but I don't think that's reality. Or at least I've seen little that proves it is.
The current Premier of Alberta (and her political party) seems to be a finger-in-the-air politician -- and former media personality -- who seems to have fairly standard left-wing views, although she breaks from leftwing dogma on issues like Covid19.
I think adding Alberta as a 51st state would just give us another Colorado at best.

That area was thinly populated anyway and since the long running Syrian Civil War, was basically ignored. Think the Druze populating there also have little in common with the Sunni Muslims in Damascus and elsewhere.
Syrian Druze have more in common with kinfolk in Lebanon and Israel and are also viewed as apostates by Sunni Muslim fundamentalists.
Plus Israeli troops occupy the commanding heights of the Golan so it would be disadvantageous for the shaky Syrian regime to go up against that.

Sometime in our past, our so-called leaders thought we should be a competing empire. Since most of the competition has receded and no longer can even take care of themselves, it seems high time we dropped the idea.
I sincerely do not know what the value of holding territory outside the nation is, nor do I know why we have to be in the middle of everyone else's business.

Quebec uses the _threat_ of secession to extort concessions and favourable treatment from the rest of Canada. They understand full well that they wouldn't survive for two weeks as an independent state. Secession referenda are negotiating tactics the same way Trump's tariffs are.
Case in point: they've only had two votes in all of Canadian history, the last one was thirty years ago and they over played their hand so badly the Secede side came dangerously close to winning (probably did, infact). The province had to massage the vote totals down to 50.5% vs 49.5% in favour of staying. There hasn't been any secession sentiment since.

Guess again. The Clarity Law (written for just such a potential) does NOT indicate what the margin needs to be. It only states it would have to be a clear majority. It, also, states that it must demonstrate the clear will of the people.
Purposefully vague so it can be manipulated on the Federal level, and THEN decided by the overwhelmingly Liberal Courts.
No one is leaving. Carney's strategy seems clear. He will make promises to Alberta and Sask. that cannot be fulfilled immediately...draw them out, and never deliver. He only needs to take away the momentum from the secession contingency at the next election, which I believe is February.

We were in one a month or two ago and the decor was different. Not the old-timey stuff they're known for, but I'll be darned if I can remember what it was. I just knew it looked different. CB has been going steadily downhill for a long time now. Dirty restaurants, smaller portions, food just not good anymore. So then they introduced beer and other alcoholic beverages hoping to, I guess, reimagine themselves.

Of course it's a threat: we don't like your foreign policy, so we'll try to dismember your country. "Wishing to be independent" and being granted independence are two very different things. A declaration of support for independence would mean that Trump would oppose Ottawa's attempts to keep Alberta in Confederation if, say, Alberta's provincial parliament were to pass a bill declaring independence. Do we really want to go down that road?
