I don't dispute that, nor do I think Schiff's crimes are meaningless. I was just hoping for some juicy fraud collaboration between the banks and politicians like we saw with Angelo Mozilo and Countrywide.

• SC Driver’s License or SC Identification card(s) with current address
• Copies of South Carolina motor vehicle registrations for ALL motor vehicles with current address
• Utility Bill(s) from electric AND water/sewer company with the current service address
• Tax Returns – most recently filed Federal 1040 w/ (Schedules 1, C and/or E, or Form 8829 if applicable) AND SC1040 w/ (Schedule NR if applicable)
If you have filed an extension, provide a copy of Form 4868. Your completed returns will be required once you file.

I guess they just take your word for it in California and Maryland.

I remember being shocked about credit cards while I was in college. I had a credit card. It had a $750 limit. I had acquaintances with cards that had had $10k+ limits. I asked one of them how the hell she managed that given that we shared the same situation - she had basically no income and was saddled student loan debt - but her credit limit was several multiples of mine.

She looked at me like I was stupid and said, "whoa, you told the *truth* on those forms? I lied my ass off."

177 I currently have 3 mortgages. Two in KY and one in WV. The paperwork on each was pretty detailed and since we declared our primary residence many years ago only one of the other two could be "secondary."

And only the mortgage interest on the second home can be taken off at tax time. Nothing else. It's not a "rental" property or otherwise commercial.

Furthermore, we provided all sorts of financial info and resident status proofs for every one of those loans.

Schiff makes millions a year and still feels the need to stick it to "the man." Fucking loser.

Even if the passport control doesn't stamp anymore, there is usually a place to get a stamp. I found one for my kids to get a stamp in Belize last year.

The rule, as I understand it:
Lie, cheat, fudge and smudge like crazy on deductions. Take the ones that are even vaguely plausible. Make them up. Double dip.
Just be sure to report all your income exactly.
If you get audited, you'll owe the tax you would have had to pay anyway plus a little penalty and interest.

But, if you don't report income--whoo-boy--that's where the SHTF if you get audited.

Almost no one stamps anymore. I was recently in Asia and did get stamps there, but nada elsewhere. It's a shame.

And what Trump did wasn't even technically a violation. He ascribed an estimate of property value, which the bank then checked with their own assessors and then made the loan.

In this case, Schiff willfully misrepresented the very nature of his property. A knowing fraudulent act. In doing so he gained a mortgage on more favorable terms than he should have.

I don't know what the penalties for that are - because he essentially stole money from the mortgage company.

So they won't take any deductions unless you are absolutely, 100% permitted under every interpretation of the regs.

Audits mean nothing. Not joking. I had one. They basically say "hey, you owe us $X." If you pay it, they go away. You have to be a real asshole and basically dare them to charge you for them to take any real action. Or be truly egregious like Wesley Snipes. In fact, the year I got audited, even after paying what they said I owed, and the interest, I was still ahead of the game for that year. Even their audit didn't capture all the money I actually owed.

I was audited three years in a row... right after my divorce. Why? Full time single DAD... she was paying me child support...

Funny part? I was Active Navy then. Didn't own a House, no real deductions except the kids... REALLY simple Tax return.
