Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Trump Prepares to Sign EO Forbidding Political De-Banking and Imposing Penalties on Banks Who Corruptly De-Banked CitizensTrump told CNBC that JP Morgan and Bank of America had debanked him for no reason. Here's how terrorist propaganda organization Reuters reported it: U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday said he believes that banks discriminate against him and his supporters, adding that Bank of America and JPMorgan Chase had previously refused to accept his deposits. "They totally discriminate against, I think, me maybe even more, but they discriminate against many conservatives," he told CNBC in an interview. "I think the word might be Trump supporters more than conservatives." Trump made the comments when asked about a report by the Wall Street Journal that said he planned to punish banks that discriminated against conservatives, but did not address the order specifically. The order instructs regulators to review banks for "politicized or unlawful debanking" practices, according to a draft reviewed by Reuters. "Well, they did discriminate," Trump said of actions taken by JPMorgan Chase after his first term in office. "I had hundreds of millions, I had many, many accounts loaded up with cash ... and they told me, 'I'm sorry sir, we can't have you. You have 20 days to get out.'" Trump said, without providing evidence, that he believed that the banks' refusal to take his deposits indicated that the administration of former President Joe Biden had encouraged banking regulators to "destroy Trump."
Unrelated: Trump took a tour of the White House roof -- I assume, to plot future additions and modifications -- and answered questions while he was up there.

threats from Biden's bank regulators that banking the former president's money put them at in danger of falling afoul of rule that prohibit financial institution from doing business with individuals and companies that present a "reputational risk."
Remember Trump is a King or a Dictator or something because he enforces the laws on the books, whereas Biden was a Good Guy because he tried to imprison, cancel, and debank his domestic political opposition. Posted by: 18-1 at August 05, 2025 05:39 PM (t0Rmr) 3
"Then he was denied services by Bank Of America. During the interview, he named both JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon and Brian Moynihan of Bank of America, stating both refused to come to his defense."
Moynihan was asked about Trump's statement in an interview with Becky Quick on CNBC, maybe 1 'clock hour. Moynihan dodged and didn't contradict Trump. Posted by: Bilwis Devourer of Innocent Souls, I'm starvin' over here at August 05, 2025 05:39 PM (pIfcn) 4

CA and several other states have affirmative right to free speech in their constitution -- this has been interpreted so far as to mean that Malls and other public spaces can not censor free speech among the general public (Ref the famous Pruneyard v. Robbins case). So how has this been allowed for so long? Not just the first, but the 2nd amendment and their debanking of gun businesses as well. I have been the victim today of a terrible food crime. I admit to some missteps that led to this outcome but let me say, no man deserves the misery I've endured.
Today I didn't bring a lunch so I thought I'd head to the cafeteria at work, (I know, I know), and when I get there they still had calzones, this almost never happens, with a sign: PEPPARONI CALZONE Calzones are very dear to me, I feel they serve as a reminder of a food preparer's everlasting covenant with the food eater, everything will be fine, here's a calzone. So I joyfully place the calzone in a styrofoam receptacle, pay for it, and hike back the half mile to my lonely cubical. I sit down and start digging in with my plastic knife & fork. A piece of broccoli falls out, and in my naiveté I think, "oh no! a piece of broccoli fell onto my calzone somehow!". No. That mfer was a broccoli fing calzone. Why? WHY?? I'm still asking myself this question. Posted by: banana Dread Pirate Summer Long Balls Dream at August 05, 2025 05:53 PM (cduTK) 106

Banks are not your friends. I once opened an account at Lloyd's of London, in the Pall Mall branch, no less ,as I was about to work in the UK for a year or two coming out from the Antipodes. As I was used to a modern NZ banking system, with ATMs, computers, debit cards, cash overdrafts, etc it was stepping back into Dicksonia. The sub -bank manager interviewing me was an upper class twat, who clearly had never met a genuine Colonial before. He couldn't understand my accent and I didnt want to understand his. I had to resort to a combination of charm, common sense, and a subtle veiled threat of immediate violence to get the approval to open an account. The fact that I was carrying 10's of 1000's of cash and wanted it to go into his fucking bank was the tipping factor for approval. The twat. Just to annoy them, I still have a Lloyds' account open. I believe I left it open with 50p in credit and is now worth about 20 pounds. They still mail me paper annual account statements. I would have cost them a fortune to do this. I win.

I don't think an EO is good enough, Republicans should pass a law that forbids debanking on political grounds. A law is much harder to get rid of than an EO and congress members should be on record for either being for or against it.
Posted by: Decaf at August 05, 2025 05:56 PM (unUNN) ++++ Not sure. I don't know if political discrimination is illegal, but such a law would almost certainly be a disaster. A regulatory agency is firmly in the executive's territory within the boundaries laid down by Congress when the agency was formed. If it is out of bounds for a regulatory agency to weaponize itself for political purposes - and I suspect that it is - then no new law is needed. Resurfacing from last thread's rabbit hole:
... As the people might note, the FBI is good at killing 75-year-old woodworkers and women such as Vicki Weaver, who was not charged with any crime. The FBI proved adept at mounting covert operations against candidate and President Trump, and exploiting FISA to spy on Americans. On the other hand, when it comes to protecting the American people, the FBI is a bust. The FBI failed to prevent the terrorist attacks of February 26, 1993, September 11, 2001, Fort Hood (2009), the Boston Marathon (2013), San Bernardino (2015), and Orlando in 2016.
This is among the most outrageous and dangerous of the totalitarian abuses of the vile cretins making up much of the country and its institutions.
And the banking "industry" is hardly an industry at all, it's a regulated utility (actually even more state-run in some ways than actual utilities). So this should go far beyond an EO. Congress should - if it's not already in the law, which is hard to believe - make it clear that political discrimination in financial activities is absolutely verboten and will be policed viciously. These aren't actual normal companies (includes credit card giants). They're essentially state-run oligopolies now. There should not be one micron of wiggle room for them. Isn't there a basis for private action (legal) against this outrageous behavior? Hard to believe there isn't. Anyway DOJ should terrorize these idiots into fearing criminal charges more than "regulators". Posted by: rhomboid at August 05, 2025 06:28 PM (U/Byj) 287

I'm a little confused. There's a government regulation that requires banks to refrain from doing business with someone that might be a reputational risk? That's a pretty Orwellian regulation, especially if the government gets to decide which people pose such a risk.
One thing I hope comes out of all this is strict new laws that recognize banks are a cartel and already so regulated they're effectively a regulated monopoly. As such we need consumer protections like every other monopoly, namely that people who are engaged in legal commerce have a right to access the banking system no matter how unliked they are by those in power. 305 I find it really amusing that my current bank has a Daily limit on my Debit card of $2500 per day...
But, if I use a credit card, there is no limit except the Credit Limit on the card itself. Posted by: Romeo13 at August 05, 2025 06:33 PM (mP0Kj) That's because they don't pay the merchant for credit transactions right away. They effectively have a month to figure out a transaction is fraudulent and refuse to pay. But they're on the hook for fraudulent debit card transactions, which get posted the same day. 'If we can harass a religious baker into making gay wedding cakes, we can force public banks to store money for everyone or go out of business and go to jail.' This is the right idea. None of the people who debank or torment observant Christians are my countrymen. They can be dealt with as harshly as needed. Posted by: Dr. Claw at August 05, 2025 07:20 PM (3wi/L) 362

The Texas, being a WWI battleship was smaller and only had 14 inch guns.
actually Karen...the Texas had 12 inch guns with four 14 inch torpedo tubes above the water. It was the last of the Dreadnaughts. The ship was retired after WWII and was bought by the state of Texas mostly through donations made by kids in elementary school who were asked to donate nickels. I think there might be a second facet to this EO that is kind of questionable depending upon your position. My understanding is that it protects crypto companies for de-banking as well.
I don't pretend to understand the nuances of the crypto market, but I know they have less protection in place to counter laundering, fraud and monetary risks in general. Additionally, you're asking a bank to provide services to what could be perceived as a diametrically opposed competitor. Whether you are a supporter of crypto or not, you have to admit that it is not in the best interest of the bank to provide them services. Posted by: Orson at August 05, 2025 07:30 PM (dIske) 368
