Here would be a partial answer (New Oxford American Dictionary):
adjective (woker, wokest) often derogatory - alert to and concerned about social injustice and discrimination: he's an activist and very woke | woke culture has moved into mainstream journalism | my neighborhood is a very woke area | we need to stay angry, and stay woke. USAGE As an adjective woke was first recorded in African American usage in the late 19th century, meaning awake, not asleep. The contemporary meaning arose in the US during the 1960s, with the idea of being well informed and aware of what was going on in society. In the 21st century woke was popularized by association with the Black Lives Matter movement and by the lyrics of the 2008 song “Master Teacher” by Erykah Badu, in which the words “I stay woke” serve as a refrain. More recently the word has been used in a more derogatory way, by people who oppose progressive reforms or feel that their advocates are unrealistic or interfering Posted by: m at July 24, 2025 04:45 AM (aURVT) 16

The US government has ordered that all AIs competing for government contracts must be viewpoint neutral - that is, abandoning the DEI bullshit that infests all AI models.
And that misses the point entirely. Which isn't a simple criticism of Trump alone - the entire American public has missed the point since a least WW II. And that point is simple human nature. Asking - or demanding - that people leave their biases at the door is a fantasy. People just can not do that even if they try. The biases are baked in. They make us who we are individually and collectively. This idea that groups and agencies can be constrained by rules or oaths against their biases has been disproven time and again. Yet here we go once more. Posted by: Long Memory at July 24, 2025 06:27 AM (iviLe) 48

Yesterday afternoon I sat down and wrote out the things I want in a house: the must-haves (MHs) and the nice-to-haves (NTHs), and the conditions I call a plus. Filled most of a notebook page, double-spaced. Looking, for example, at Evansville and vicinity, and Duncan, OK (as someone here suggested I do), I see my MHs are quite possible to find at my price range, and a lot of the NTHs and pluses are there too. No one house has all of them, but many of the NTHs (wall paint, laminate floors) are things I can add myself.
So, despite having a longish list, I am encouraged that I am not being unreasonable. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at July 24, 2025 06:52 AM (omVj0) 76

---- right They've been starving since the 70s and Arafat. Yet they never look any leaner. Posted by: Don Black at July 24, 2025 07:06 AM (AOsQT) 101
Wolfus, I admire how organized your search is. In my case I was informed what house I was buying and I said "uhhhhh, ok"
Posted by: Huck Follywood at July 24, 2025 *** I may only get one shot at this, and in any case I want to settle down and actually *live in* the house, so I'd like to get it right. There are first-time homebuyer programs all over the place, but they all have restrictions such as "so much income" and the price of the house relative to the area. Probably, too, you have to stay in the house for x years before selling. I'll put in for any down payment assistance that seems reasonable -- but for the right house and the right price I won't need it. Also: the latest epstein Hoax now is that AG Bondi "told" President Trump "his name is in the files." Sure. The Biden Administration, virtuous and scrupulous as it was, never, but never would have suggested or implied that a man they publicly called an existential threat to the nation was diddling underaged girls, a revelation that would, at the very least, have scuppered his campaign and more likely led to an indictment. I also think it might be a good idea to talk to a local tax pro in mid-year, to see if my estimation of what I'll owe next April is close to the mark. And what I might have to do the year after that. Jackson Hewitt sent me an email that started me thinking about it. I've used H & R Block before too. Any ideas if those two are good for advice?

Hi, my name's Don, and I'm a grammar-holic. I first started correcting people online 28 years ago in an AOL chatroom. Hi, Don. I was in the habit of correcting Her Majesty's grammar in full flow of her discourse, adding, "I'll teach you to speak your native language yet." This did not turn out well for me. I live in a city plus county area of about 200,000 combined population. City has IMO a problem with the “must have, could use, would be nice” categories. Decades ago, city declined participation in a new water reservoir for the region. Then a drought occurred. City demanded water purchase without paying debt service on the new reservoir. But I am a racist for voting against merger of city and county. Now city is whining about loss of federal funding for antique performance venue.

Last week a study commission in Portland, OR had 4 ideas on to fix the drug problem. Number 1 was just give the druggies what they want. Either administered in a clinic or on the street. The commission seemed to be worried about finding jobs for drug pushers since they won't be needed. With budget problems the city is having, what to do to keep them from criminal things. Oh, the problems on the west coast cities never end. (and other cities also)

My wife loves Michael Bubbles, as Joe Morris (bowling ball-like retired NFL running back) named him. Joe went to a Bubbles concert because his ex-wife (who was basically still his wife even after divorce) was enamored with Buble. Can you imagine tough Joe Morris at a Michael Buble concert, along with his wife and daughters? Must have been hilarious.

I told my agent "I don't care if you find the perfect house that's below what we want to pay. If there is an HOA, we're not interested." We got very lucky. Posted by: NR Pax at July 24, 2025 07:27 AM (+4yJ5) 123

Mark Lemley, a law professor at Stanford University, told TechCrunch the executive order is "clearly intended as viewpoint discrimination, since [the government] just signed a contract with Grok, aka 'MechaHitler.'"

I'm almost as worried about them being "viewpoint neutral"* as I am about them hallucinating and not really being intelligent at all.
(* Remember that Progressivism is a religion. They don't think wokeism is a viewpoint - they think it's merely the truth. And they're blind to other viewpoints as maybe being 'truth.' Hence, the reality denial in which they so often engage.) Posted by: GWB at July 24, 2025 07:34 AM (mdVyk) 130
"As Rumman Chowdhury, a data scientist, CEO of the tech nonprofit Humane Intelligence, and former U.S. science envoy for AI, put it, "Anything [the Trump administration doesn't] like is immediately tossed into this pejorative pile of woke."
This is the sort of thing that just makes me laugh. Ol' Rummie Chowderhead hates the correct use of his and other progtards like him descriptive adjective of "woke". Woke is not a word that conservatives or Trump would come up with to describe your beliefs, Rumdumb. Insane would come closest to it. Woke is your descriptor and supposed to mean that you are awake to all that is fair and equitable, unlike the rest of the horrible American populous who are but sleeping sheep. I love that they hate their own creation being turned back on them like some grammatical Frankenstein monster. BONUS!: I also love that Rummie Chowderhead's phony baloney business of festooning other people's software with woke garbage is most likely DOA. Hahaha. Posted by: naturalfake at July 24, 2025 07:44 AM (iJfKG) 131
Given how suddenly Grok went reich, I'm wondering if it was a case of poisoning the AI by some far-left employee who flew under the radar. Possibly as a F.U. for a lay-off/firing they knew was coming.
And if that can be done, what can be done to protect against it? Especially since there's so much bullshit on the Internet one could unleash to be hoovered up, some more concentrated than others. Posted by: Another Anon at July 24, 2025 09:08 AM (4h45B) 132
