Biden, Inc. Scores Its Last Major Grift: Biden Inks Deal to "Write" "His" "Memoirs" For Ten Million Dollars

Endless, fathomless corruption.

They're paying $10 million to an autopen.

I have repeatedly urged a law barring any politician or ex-politician (within five years of serving in a federal office) from accepting any "advance" for a book. They should be paid just by actual royalties-- a percentage of each book actually sold.

If you don't know, an advance is just literally an advance against future expected royalties. If you get an advance of $50,000, you don't get your first $50,000 in royalty payments, because you were already paid them, in advance. After you hit $50,000 in royalties, you'd start collecting royalty checks for royalties in excess of your advance.

For fifty years, hard-left publishing companies, all of which are part of gigantic media conglomerates with business constantly in front of the US government, have been bribing (Democrat) politicians with absurdly high "advances" that are nothing of the sort. The ten million dollar payment to Biden is a straight-up bribe, like so many other bribes he's collected. There is no way to characterize this as a reasonable guess as to what his projected future royalties will be. He will not make ten million in royalties. He will not even make one million in royalties.

He will make maybe $100,000-200,000 in royalties. Who would be the audience? Conservatives despise this child-sniffing criminal and Democrats want him to disappear.

A law requiring royalties paid to politicians to be actual royalties would stop media companies from engaging in barely-disguised bribery to Democrats, while still making sure that authors receive the real, actual royalties that "their" books earn.

Oh, when I asked "Who is the audience for this?"

The answer was Paid Democrat Party Shills and Twinkfluencers.

I think this goes beyond the publishing companies. Someone is ordering that these pols be "taken care of," and I doubt book publishers are paying for the entire pay off themselves.

I assume it's just money laundering, since "book advance" is a plausible way to launder millions of dollars to someone.

U.S. Grant's was pretty good. It had some humorous bits in it to relieve the grimness of the Civil War.

For example, when his dad pulled strings to get him appointed to West Point. "I'm not going to West Point!" "Oh, I think you are."

Or the whole comical saga of being put in charge of the supposedly "trained" mules, who were being driven by men who *claimed* to be teamsters (teamsters got to ride on a wagon rather than humping a pack on foot). There was one particular four-footed spawn of Satan that gave him hell. He wanted to get rid of it, but discovered that exchanging the mules was not allowed. However, if a mule got lost, you could get a new one. Some good humor about trying hard to "lose" the mule, but it kept coming back.

Before I read the book, I had no idea that Grant's ambition in life was to become a math teacher.

We still have Twain's contemporaneous account of the Gilded Age. Often, at least, during an era of private letters exchanged, historians can deduce what was going on at any particular time. Once we transitioned to ephemeral phones conversations, online chats, emails etc., a lot of history is being lost.

Grant is an example where his Memoirs recount an interesting life outside of politics. To some degree the absence of one from Washington, Lincoln, etc. though has served to make them more protean than the pols that got their own say in autobiographies.

I think probably most colleges that are not Ivy League don't have famous alumni, and "famous" usually turns out to be people who are either movie stars or politicians. I have no idea where say, Bill Gates, went to school but I am glad I am not a graduate of that institution. Many people who go to college, or at least who did 30 or more years ago didn't become famous. They just got a job, got married and hopefully lived a decent life.

422 Oh my foolish friends.

The publishing company was approached by an..ahem...private party. That private party said that "I think a Joe Biden memoir would be a HUUUGE bestseller. In fact, I'm so sure of it, I'll front the $10 million for the advance and agree to take only 10% of the royalties. The publishing house gets the rest up to the $10 million advance."

So, for the publishing company, this is a can't lose deal. THEY get a share of the royalties, and suffer zero risk with the advance, since someone else took on that risk.

Only sells 20,000 copies? Boo-hoo, well I guess the investor lost his $10 million. Biden gets to keep his $10 million, and the publisher got the profits from whatever was sold. Oh, and the "investor" writes the loss of on his taxes.

And who is this mystery person you ask? Could be anyone - this is a private contract, so we have no idea.

This is a big part of HOW politicians get rich. All perfectly legal.
