The 3D's back channel will be sprinkled throughout the Ozzy content this evening - all ONT music (both visible and mystery clicks) are in memory of Ozzy. His last concert (wiki link) was a few weeks ago - reunited with Black Sabbath and a number of other artists. The event concluded with the final live performances of both the band and lead singer Ozzy Osbourne; it also marked the first time since 2005 that the original line-up of the band (Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward) had performed together live. Osbourne, no longer able to walk due to advanced Parkinson's disease, sang while seated on a throne. Seventeen days after the show, Osbourne died from complications of his condition.Impressive how long Ozzy was able to remain in the spotlight. He had an undeniable body of music, success, and excess. After being turned down by executives of other production studios, it was in early April 1964 presented to Desilu executives Oscar Katz and Herb Solow, who picked up the proposition on behalf of their employer. Route 66 ![]() Brits let ALL the murdery, rapey, rapists in (permanently) that don't want to assimilate. This guy? A hard no on a two-week work-related visit. Not dismissing his past transgressions. Pointing at the Brits high horse dumbassery and mocking their lack of self-preservation tactics and priorities. Caddie denied entry. It's golf. Not explosive vests. They do use the word "shooting" in golf. It must be that. The troubles that Harris’ caddie of nine years, Eric Larson, faced in being denied entry into the U.K. because of a drug conviction 30 years ago made headlines when the American player arrived for last week’s Scottish Open. And the chatter may have died down except for this: English fired a four-under 67 late on Thursday in the opening round at Royal Portrush to get into a five-way tie for the lead with a close and golf savvy cohort on the bag. This cannot be true. Wait...InBev, Anheuser-Busch owns the Corona brand.
Canoe. Water. Accidents. Looking at this and thinking about the broader concept vs. this specific lawsuit. '"Overton Window" gets tossed out a lot by pundit blowhards, but it is pretty applicable currently. We have a president willing to kick anyone and everyone in the swimsuit - via words and policy, then explain why they deserved it. The sails are pretty full, our side is stacking up wins, and momentum is building. Now is the time to go at every policy objective - aggressively and expansively (like the left has done ad nauseum). All in on the conservative agenda while the conditions and mood of the country are favorable. Leave very little on the table - only what is necessary for future gain / leverage. You've Got Mail? The lawsuit challenges a 1927 law that prohibits those who do not possess a federal firearms license (FFL) from sending handguns to other people through the mail. If the plaintiffs are successful, it could be a significant victory for gun rights. The plaintiffs include Gun Owners of America (GOA), the Gun Owners Foundation (GOF), and Bonita Shreve, a woman who sought to send a handgun to her father. The lawsuit argues that the restriction criminalizes ordinary, lawful behavior, and violates the Second Amendment. The law states that "Pistols, revolvers, and other firearms capable of being concealed on the person are nonmailable and shall not be deposited in or carried by the mails or delivered by any officer or employee of the Postal Service." Threats. Untrustworthy governments and dark operators. China has threatened to block a deal for dozens of global ports - including two near the Panama Canal - if its own shipping giant doesn't get a sizable stake, according to a report Thursday. The deal, valued at around $20 billion, hands over more than 40 global ports owned by Hong Kong business magnate Li Ka-Shing to US asset manager BlackRock and Mediterranean Shipping Company. Cosco containers...don't buy one - pick any other. China is demanding that Cosco, its largest shipping firm, be an equal partner to BlackRock and MSC in the deal, sources familiar with the matter told the Wall Street Journal.Nothing to do with this article, but my contact with Med Shipping (MSC) is kind of easy on the eyes. My Blackrock contact is not. Insider industry tip: If buying a shipping container, don't buy a Cosco. More China. Missed this in the news cycle - it is about a month old. Chinese agroterrorism (ok, that's a word I suppose - it is descriptive). They sent one of them home? No extradition treaty with China, Liu will never be back. Two Chinese nationals have been charged with trying to smuggle a fungus, Fusarium graminearum, into the United States. Yunqing Jian, 33, and Zunyong Liu, 34, citizens of the People’s Republic of China, were charged in a criminal complaint with conspiracy, smuggling goods into the U.S., false statements and visa fraud. Fusarium graminearum causes significant diseases in a number of U.S.-grown food crops, including corn, wheat, barley, soybeans and rice. Diseases caused include Fusarium head blight (scab) in wheat, and two corn diseases Gibberella ear rot and Gibberella stalk rot, which can lower yield and feed quality of silage corn, according to the Crop Protection Network, a partnership of land grant universities. Toxins the fungus produces can cause vomiting, liver damage, reproductive defects and mycotoxin-induced immunosuppression in humans and livestock, including cattle, hogs, horses and poultry.Good summary of Chinese theft and anti-American actions. Far too much to quote - it is an older article but worth a look. “They don’t just come here to spy … they come here to study and a lot of it is legitimate,” Augustyn said. “But there is no question in my mind, depending on where they are and what they are doing, that they have a role to play for their government.” Considering 360,000 Chinese nationals enrolled in U.S. universities (many of those land grant universities with heavy agriculture research concentrations), if the CCP taps merely 1% of its student exports as direct intelligence sources—the math translates to 3,600 information sources on U.S. soil. And if the CCP taps far greater numbers of students in U.S. universities, as many analysts believe, the level of CCP surveillance jumps exponentially. Yeah, I can relate to this guy. Who is a hugger? Who is not? Messaging through head nods, handshakes, and facial expressions is the path.

Co-market it with those Reef flip-flops with the bottle opener on the sole. Posted by: mikeski at July 22, 2025 10:02 PM (DgGvY) This is kind of a dumb idea. What if you are not at the beach? That pointy-bottomed bottle won't sit on a table, or a bar, or on solid ground at all. It might work in some cup holders, if they are deep enough. And ordinary flat-bottomed bottles will set upright in sand if you use a little care. Furthermore, glass bottles are often discouraged on beaches and trails because they become a source of harmful broken glass. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at July 22, 2025 10:12 PM (0sq2f) 36

The best tribute I could give to Ozzy came from Mrs B herself. We were eating diner tonight and she looked at me and said "its amazing how much he was a part of our life". I looked at her and said huh? She said when I first met you I remember you spending hours every day learning the ins and outs of Randy Rhoad's style. You became a metal guitar player because of that first sabbath album you heard at 12 years old. I have heard you play that music on guitar for over 40 years. We have been surrounded by his music in one form or another for basically our whole lives. From albums, to cassette tapes, to CD's. Its always been with us, and many times it was your guide.

In re the Japanese beer bottle: the return of the amphora! Q: Why were amphorae pointy ended? A: not all of them were! Some were flat bottomed, most were pointy. The flat bottomed ones were for use in the home while the pointy ones were meant to be transported. Apparently, laying them on their sides with some straw packing or the like made them easier to ship with out breaking. Flat bottomed amphorae would break, often as not, if you tried to ship them full on their flat bottoms!

Hi, Scampydog!
This one is for cat people. My cat Chloe is a 14-year-old Manhattanite who's spent her entire life in apartments. But since I moved to this 1904 Appalachian farmhouse, she's been hearing the call of the wild, trying to get out the door at every opportunity. About four months ago, I thought, 'whatthehell, let her out to enjoy the outdoors for a bit,' and saw she was afraid of cars, and would stick comically close to the circumference of the house foundation. Thursday night, I let her out for an excursion--then forgot to let her in again. Friday I panicked, thinking she'd been eaten by a neighborhood dog, or was injured and shivering in a culvert somewhere. I put the word out to all and sundry, and Sunday I wept. Well, when I got back from church, the old devil was out by the garage, and trotted right up when I called her name, looking fit and very pleased with herself! As cool as Dirty Harry. Little rat had herself a nice 4-day vacation! And of course, she wants to go out again. Cats are only half-domesticated. Posted by: Beverly at July 22, 2025 10:52 PM (Epeb0) 169

In Star Trek TOS, the episode where Kirk is “split” is one of the weaker ones IMHO. It’s “The Enemy Within” which is the 5th episode of the first season. Basically Kirk is split into his “good” and “bad” selves. But the good side is indecisive while the bad side is impulsive. Since Kirk must make command decisions as Captain of the ship, he must be reunited to solve the demands of the plot, and he is.

I can think of one hugger I do not like one bit. The former husband of one of my SIL's. He would hang out at huge college parties with all of us. Once he got super drunk and told me he loved me more than my boyfriend. I sort of melted backwards into the crowd and pretended that I did not hear him.
It gets worse. Being a friend of my fiance's he was in our wedding, and then started dating his sister, and later marrying/divorcing. I still pretended that the deal never happened and honestly hoped he was so drunk he did not remember. I did tell my bf/husband and we still laugh about it in private. Before his divorce, when I would arrive from out of town to visit the in-laws with my husband and family, he ALWAYS hugged me way too hard and for too long. To the point I'd almost push him away yuck. Now that my MIL is dead I do hope he never hugs me ever again. He still ogles me weirdly at his daughter's weddings, and one hideous Thanksgiving two years ago. So, therefore, I agree with the blue eyed man above. I'm not up to speed on the physics of souls. Any reason it wouldn't just follow the transporter beam to stay with its body?
Posted by: mikeski That's the bug, y'see. Souls aren't physical. Think about this. You could transmit an apple or an animal with no such problem. In fact, like the food replicators, you could transmit an endless number of copies of the apple or the animal. Or a human, each one a new person! Clones, really. (The phrase comes to mind, let God sort it out.) Proof is that episode of TNG where they made a copy of Riker. There may be problems with long-term pattern storage, though. In TNG, when Scotty was reconstituted after decades stuck in the transporter, he came out all fat and old. Posted by: mindful webworker - wall, bless mah soul! at July 22, 2025 11:12 PM (RviYc) 210

Posted by: mindful webworker Also the solution to the bug. If souls aren't physical, they don't have to obey the laws of physics. They're not bound by concepts like "location" and "the speed of light." Beam me up, and my soul might get there first. Or maybe it was always there. who knows. And if you copy me, maybe my soul splits in half, forming two whole souls, because souls don't have to be mathematically correct, either. Or maybe God makes a new soul for one of me. I've known plenty of liberals into Star Trek. Its post-scarcity utopian nonsense resonates with them. The prime directive's cultural relativism also seems to strike a chord with them.

One of the best episodes of Star Trek most folks know as "City on the Edge of Forever" is the one where Kirk & Spock have to go back in time to keep McCoy from changing history.
You know, of course Kirk wants to stick it in the woman who would have changed history if McCoy hadn't saved her life. Thing is, in reality Edith Keeler didn't have to die. The premise was that she became the leader of a huge peace movement that kept America out of WW II. Nazi Germany won the war, and that just fucked everything up. Well, it was a great story but the American Peace Movement of the 30's was heavily Communist, and they did a massive 180 on June 22 1941 when Nazi Germany broke the Non-Aggression Pact and invaded the Soviet Union. Personally, I think Babylon 5 smoked them all. Not so much the last season, but definitely the first 4. Really good character interactions, great characters in general. Pretty good story too. Probably the most realistic really. No pie in the sky star trek bullshit. Mankind will get fancy toys and still suck. The original Star Trek plays out with a very Kennedy America outlook, or far right wing extremist Christian-o-fascist as the modern left would call it.
Even TNG though would be right wing hate speech now. No trannies! A white captain who was probably not molesting an AI version of Wesley in the Holochamber! A mostly straight first officer...with a beard of the literal type! And a Whoopi Guinan who doesn't even have one on set abortion. Posted by: 18-1 at July 23, 2025 12:22 AM (t0Rmr) 284

Loved Babylon 5's five-year story arc and character development but have to admit that Farscape had the best overall story line throughout. Babylon 5 was also the first to use computer-generated images (CGI) for their special effects and it was pretty rinky-tink so took a little getting used to. And Farscape suffered from the usual problem with foreign-produced stuff: their sets and costumes were crudely done and crappy. Star Trek (the original series) keeps a special place in my heart as I got to see it as originally aired, except the third season when they switched it over to 10 PM on Friday nights and my parents made us all go to bed at 9 PM despite a lot of pleading and whining. Didn't get to see those episodes until the show went into syndication. I am an original Star Trek fan, not a damn "trekkie"!

This might be something
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent @SecScottBessent Jul 21 Today in a CNBC interview, I called for a review of the Federal Reserve. It is my belief that the central bank should conduct an exhaustive internal review of its non-monetary policy operations. Significant mission creep and institutional growth have taken the Fed into areas that potentially jeopardize the independence of its core monetary policy mission. As I have said many times, the Fed’s conduct of monetary policy “is a jewel box” that should be walled off to preserve its independence. This independence is a cornerstone of continued U.S. economic growth and stability. However, this autonomy is threatened by persistent mandate creep into areas beyond its core mission, provoking justifiable criticism that unnecessarily casts a cloud over the Fed’s valuable independence on monetary policy. Posted by: Berserker-Dragonheads Division at July 23, 2025 12:14 AM (snZF9) B5 was good, but the human characters mostly ranged from bland to terrible. Most of the political allegories were ham-handed as well. One of Star Trek's better qualities was when it tried to explore gray areas of moral dilemmas. B5 had a bad habit of making Sheridan the moral paragon while his antagonists were frequently one-dimensional cartoon villains. Garibaldi was pretty much the only human character with some depth to him. Londo and G'Kar carried the show, especially in the later seasons. Posted by: Sjg at July 23, 2025 02:26 AM (aqZN1) 326
