Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | The Morning Report — 7/17/25![]() Federal judge James Boasberg advised Chief Justice John Roberts and some two dozen other judges that his D.C. colleagues were “concern[ed] that the Administration would disregard rulings of federal courts leading to a constitutional crisis,” according to a memorandum obtained exclusively by The Federalist. That Judge Boasberg and his fellow D.C. District Court judges would discuss how a named Defendant in numerous pending lawsuits might respond to an adverse ruling is shocking. Equally outrageous is those judges’ clear disregard for the presumption of regularity — a presumption that requires a court to presume public officials properly discharged their official duties "A Constitutional crisis?!" You don't say?! The left chants “No kings!” in the streets—then cheer judges who rule like monarchs, imposing policy from the bench with all the subtlety of a royal decree . . . “Trump must go now!” they chanted, waving signs that likened the president to a dictator and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents to his Gestapo. Their complaint was alleged despotism. But if Democrats really opposed authoritarianism, they wouldn’t be celebrating its emergence in the courts. When U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani brazenly overstepped her authority on July 7 to block Congress from stripping Planned Parenthood’s Medicaid funding through the budget reconciliation bill – a clear usurpation of the legislative branch’s power of the purse – the response from the Left wasn’t outrage but praise. “Good,” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) wrote on X. “Democrats will never stop fighting this backdoor abortion ban from the Republicans.”As an aside, I am pro abortion in this instance — that is by ramming an Alligator Alcatraz alligator up Schumer's rectal orifice and having it navigate all the way up his accursed GI tract to clamp down on his vocal cords, reverse direction and pull them out so they can never vibrate their despicable noises and disturb the peace of the known universe again, But I digress. As CBD and I discussed on the latest episode of the podcast linked here and in the sidebar as well as available on the popular platforms listed below, When a hack-in-black judge on any bench decides to usurp both the authority of the Executive Branch and the Legislative Branch in one fell swoop, well there's your Constitutional Crisis right there. And yet, God bless President Trump, all he can do, or at least is willing to do is to seek redress in the courts, the very institution that metaphorically shot, stabbed, gang-raped and set you on fire in the first place. Of course unless and until the Supreme Court and the Chief Justice are willing to stop this madness, and at the same time Congress will do what it must and impeach these hacks-in-black, defrock and disbar them so that they can never appear in a court of law ever again, unless in an orange jumpsuit and in shackles and leg irons. Of course that there is a tall order given their collective at best personal dislike if not incandescent hatred for Donald Trump and his threat to their power and influence on the nation and society. I do not know the technical or bureaucratic details of how funds move from the treasury to the various institutions of government, but if the President were to put his foot down and override Talwani and prevent a single penny from being transferred to Planned infanticide, I can just see Schumer, Crockett and the rest of the Democrat Party issuing overt calls for people to take Trump out, if not for the US military to do the job. Well, if Butler PA, the 2020 summer of mostly Peaceful race riots and the current wave of insurrection against ICE won't convince you, HOW ABOUT THIS: Car Laden With Weapons Including a Rifle, Rapier, and Bow Discovered at Capitol. On top of an unknown number of Iranians, Afghanis and other mostly peaceful jihadists roaming the countryside. And lastly, a quick shout-out and thank you for your continued support in hitting our tip jar. It truly is appreciated more than you can know. The crisis is now way beyond merely the Constitution. This isn’t a one-time blip. It’s not as if Peacock/Paramount+ made Gunsmoke available for streaming and there was a bump in interest. No, instead, a Western that has not been in production for half a century maintained its popularity for six whole months.
50-year-old ‘Gunsmoke’ Reruns More Popular than Disney’s Star Wars/Marvel Junk --- I think this is true of many, many shows made in the 70s, 80s, and 90s as well. They have a lot more replay value than today's modern junk. No one wants to watch Star Wars: The Acolyte more than once (or at all, really). Insufficient details in the article. The say "bow and arrow" so, if we assume the author understands the difference between an arrow and a quarrel, we may assume that it wasn't a crossbow. We do not know, however, if it was a recurve bow, a longbow, or a compound bow. Pretty sloppy reporting. Posted by: I used to have a different nic at July 17, 2025 07:52 AM (ExV1e) 23

--------- Immigrants can apply for entry to the US in their home countries. Today. The paperwork is routine. They're permitted to remain in the US for years, then either apply for citizenship or renew the paperwork. Renewing typically requires a return to their home country. The processing times vary. 68 Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, CA is one of the great courses in the country, world even. Designed by the great George Thomas it’s hosted many major championships including the US Open 5 times and the PGA Championship twice. But perhaps most famous for OJ Simpson’s round of golf there shortly before he was arrested for murder….
It’s not the kind of place where the members will be comfortable surrounded by low income housing. I once attended the LA Open played there; it’s a beautiful place Posted by: LinusVanPelt The PGA Tour has been going there for decades. I'm sure sleazy deals will be made, and the event will go on. That 'low income housing' will be built out of site so they can maintain some illusion of once was. I kind of hope the PGA Tour just doesn't go back, out of spite. Alas, they'll be there. Re: Medicaid waste and abuse and perverse incentives
*************** A small slice of the problem: Say a patient has a stable, chronic, condition, e.g. a healthy child with a small congenital heart defect. Periodic surveillance/follow-up for such typically includes an echocardiogram, priced at between $2-3,000. Medicaid pays only about 1/3 of the billed amount. The hospital eats the rest. So how do they make it pay? They do more echos by doing them more frequently. How frequently is such a test is needed? Depends who you ask. If you poll 10 cardiologists you would likely get 3 saying "every 6 months", 5 saying"annually", 1 saying '"every 1-2 years" and one outlier saying, "only if and when there are signs of increased symptoms". The standard at most Childrens' Hospitals, with the full backing of the hospital administration, has devolved to "every 6-12 months". And I can guarantee you that the echo will be done at the routine visit before the patient even sees the doctor, regardless of symptoms. KA-CHING!! This contributed to my decision to retire when I did. Posted by: muldoon at July 17, 2025 08:22 AM (poXs5) 98

I don’t know what we’d do without judges like Boasberg & Tawani protecting us from a potential dictatorship that only tries to follow the law as written.
God forbid a duly elected president try to deport illegal aliens, according to the laws already on the books, without the judiciary’s permission. The Dignity Act has no chance of passing. It's the usual amnesty first security last shell game. The supposedly "tough security measures" are filled with loopholes and exemptions. It bars ICE from taking illegals into custody at welfare offices, schools, and 'places of worship' which seems ripe for abuse.
That said, it represents progress in that it no longer demands a "path to citizenship." Even the Bush-Republicans know that dog won't hunt. Sure, citizenship is the next step beyond legalization, but even the immigration maximalists are recognizing limits. Posted by: Victor Tango Kilo at July 17, 2025 08:27 AM (2Hp0j) 112

In regard to Epstein, many are forgetting that there was difficulty in prosecuting him. Why? He didn't blackmail his rich friends he blackmailed the girls. He also made sure that when they went to parties with him that they were given drugs but not by him or Maxwell. Virginia was lured in with a promise of gaining a massage license. The girls were taped in sexual situations and told that they could face prostitution charges. Epsein was a pig who liked sex, money, and being around rich people.

During that cabinet meeting last week when the Epstein case blew up, Pam Bondi said:
“Those 10,000 hours of video were all child porn he downloaded, and we’re not going to release that.” Or something close to that. So many people were convinced the 10,000 hours were videos he’d recorded of his wealthy friends having sex with his harem. Apparently that wasn’t the case at all and he was just a perverted horndog who spent a lot of time looking at child porn. If you take Bondi’s word on that then there’s been a lot of misconceptions that led to the conspiracy theories about what Epstein was actually doing. Anything connected to the Epstein 'files' was erased, wiped, shredded, burned, and encased in concrete, dropped into the Marianas Trench. Assuming there was anything tangible and could be used. Yes, the DoJ mucked this up. They overpromised. There is nothing to release. It's gone. The window to do this was right before and during the arrest of Epstein. That didn't happen and here we are. Sometimes, the bad guys get away with it. A broken, sinful world.

Margo's Federalist piece adds context and details that make the events at the judicial conference far more horrifying than the initial stories I'd read.
Specifically, it can't be emphasized enough the sea change of long-standing policy and rules to assume, only for now, that government is acting in bad faith. Defying literally the entire history of the judiciary in this country that always required the courts to accept the assumption that the government official was acting in good faith. This is not a mere private political difference of opinion, it's a personal animus and bias not just tainting but covering in whole their rulings--not only evident in the orders against him but in the extraneous and improper findings against his motives in those orders--that disqualifies all of them under any reading of the rules of ethics Posted by: People's Hippo Voice at July 17, 2025 09:09 AM (nD6G9) 248

Senate Rescission Vote
The U.S. Senate approved a $9 billion rescission package aimed at cutting foreign aid and public broadcasting funding in a 51-48 vote, largely along party lines, with only two Republicans—Senators Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska—joining Democrats in opposition. The vote took place after a lengthy "vote-a-rama" session that lasted into the early hours of Thursday, July 17, 2025, and the package now heads back to the House for final approval before a Friday deadline. Key details include: The package initially proposed $9.4 billion in cuts, but $400 million in reductions targeting the HIV/AIDS relief program PEPFAR were removed after pushback from several Republican senators. The bill includes approximately $8 billion in cuts to foreign assistance programs, including the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and about $1 billion in reductions for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which supports public radio and television stations like NPR and PBS. Republican Senator Mike Rounds of South Dakota supported the package after the White House agreed to redirect millions to tribal radio stations to prevent service inte Posted by: BruceWayne at July 17, 2025 09:16 AM (MGB5H) Posted by: Bulg at July 17, 2025 09:17 AM (77rzZ) 271

A small slice of the problem:
Say a patient has a stable, chronic, condition, e.g. a healthy child with a small congenital heart defect. Posted by: muldoon at July 17, 2025 08:22 AM (poXs5) == Wrong. They upcharge private insurance. I've been saying for a while now that Trump needs attorney's in these courts before these clown judges that don't fear a judge yelling at them.
Ones that have actually antagonized the judge to yell at them. What I'm seeing is Trump is building that type of legal team. They are scrupulously and precisely complying with the order, technically but not in spirit. Which is driving these clown judges crazy. Soon, very soon, a clown judge is going to scream, red-faced yelling, at the government lawyers. And Trump's lawyers are going to smile and chuckle. These clown judges just can't see that it is their over-the-top antics and rulings that are giving Trump his wins. It is no coincidence that Roberts has sided with Trump on every ruling since that judicial conference ... From above, "Federal judge James Boasberg advised Chief Justice John Roberts and some two dozen other judges that his D.C. colleagues were “concern[ed] that the Administration would disregard rulings of federal courts leading to a constitutional crisis,” according to a memorandum obtained exclusively by The Federalist...." Golly, gee! Anyway, few weeks ago I saw a program on TV about a CIA secret program, MK-ULTRA, reportedly ran from the 1950's through the early 1960's, dealing with mind-control, i.e., "The Manchurian Candidate" like. The program was headed by an American chemist and "spymaster," Sidney Gottlieb, and included LSD dosing. I've been quite ignorant about the old CIA spy program & its ramifications even though MANY articles, books, movies have been done about it, Gottlieb, and also Dr. Frank Olson.
