As Predicted, Gavin Newsom and Karen Bass are Refusing to Allow People to Rebuild Their Houses in the Pallisades.
The Plan is to Starve Them Out and Offer Them Pennies on the Dollar for Their Property, to Build Low-Income Apartments.

Gavin Newsom and Karen Bass promised Californians who lost their homes in their engineered firestorm that there would be reduced red-tape to allow reconstruction to begin within weeks.

More than six months later, not a single home has been rebuilt. In fact, not a single construction has even started.

People suspected that Newsom and Bass would not let this crisis go to waste and would seize people's property in order to build apartment buildings for the poor.

That's exactly what they're doing. They're refusing to grant permits to let people rebuild, so that their multimillion-dollar properties become effectively valueless.

Then they're going to offer peanuts to buy these distressed, deliberately-impoverished landowners out.

Right Angle News Network
@Rightanglenews

BREAKING - The California Senate has passed SB 549, granting LA County authority to purchase fire‑destroyed lots for minimal cost and convert them into low‑income housing, directly contradicting Gavin Newsom's previous assurance to homeowners that such government‑driven property conversions wouldn't happen.

Beege Wellborne wrote about this last week.

Adam Carolla predicted this. (Video below the fold).

Beege Wellborne writes: "You knew he was right."

That sick feeling only grew as months passed. The empty words of a nervous-as-a-cat Bass, defensively deflecting Donald Trump's directions to make residents as whole as possible as soon as possible, hang in the air still.

In hard-hit Altadena alone, the rebuilding process six months later is sucking the lives and hope out of people.

And every dime they ever had.

...Addressing the concerns of homeowners at a recent community meeting, Barger told them, "You have lost so much, you shouldn't have to worry about permitting fees getting in the way of rebuilding your home. For most families, these fees may have exceeded $20,000. That's a barrier we cannot allow to stand."

The deferral of fees only applies to people who lived in their own single-family homes before the fire. It does not apply to non-owner-occupied rental properties, multi-family housing units or commercial structures.

The county estimates that if 60% of homeowners in Altadena and elsewhere in unincorporated Palisades rebuild, it would amount to $84 million in building permit fees.

Permitting is only one hurdle. For most, state and local building codes have changed in the decades since many of these homes were originally built, meaning the house has to have changes and extras that insurance covering a like-to-like rebuild does not account for.

"It adds expenses that we didn't expect. Like, solar is required on all new builds, and so is the easement from the property line. It's got to be five feet now and ours was only three," says Toomey, as she stands under a backyard oak tree that survived.

"And insurance doesn't pay for that stuff. That's on us," Silvernail adds.

Soil sampling is now required, and that tacks another $5000-$8000 onto the process.

The very long and tedious process, which is beginning to look as if it's specifically designed to soak as much money out of the homeowner as possible before they give up in disgust and move elsewhere.

There have been only an unconscionable 44 building permits approved in LA County since the fires.

...But the process is still slow. As of midday July 1, 2025, the LA County Permitting Progress Dashboard showed 890 rebuild applications in the Eaton Fire area, but only 44 building permits have been issued, taking an average turnaround of about 10 weeks to get through the process.

And speed matters. A survey of fire victims found that the longer it takes to rebuild, the more likely it is people won't move back.

"So even folks that fully intend to move back today, if this process, either through permitting or financing or insurance, takes more than three years, the percentage of people that want to move back drops to like 50%," Kawahara says.

Those are the single-family homeowners' travails.

Back in February, I wrote about a new Los Angeles ordinance that had come into effect, requiring low-income housing to be erected, replacing apartment buildings that were lost.

What that meant to fire victims who'd lost their rental homes was they might never have a home to return to if the landlord rebuilt their building and they now earned too much to make the qualifications for the low-income threshold.

In effect, LA County would be making them homeless.

Read the whole thing.

Flashback: As LA burned, the Democrat-controlled State Assembly appropriated $25 million to fight Trump.

9 Absolutely the best part of all this will be if Trump manages to get rid of a significant fraction of the illegals so that there aren't any people to live in the apartments they're building on the land which used to be owned by the people who voted for them.

I thought that the governments in CA would bulldoze all regulation to appease a donor base by getting their houses rebuilt as fast as possible.

But...I was very wrong.

They don't give enough money to the Democrat Party, it seems, to matter. Probably should fix this by just giving more.

Trump can pick up the phone and call Tulsi Gabbard and tell her to march her Hawaiian ass over to Langley have make the CIA turn over everything they have, then release that.

And I personally would not want to live right next to my neighbors and the busy road behind me. But each of those home owners should be able to rebuild, no doubt at higher costs and insurance.

This is America, dammit!

I really hope the people rise up and fight! Put down your bongs and get this done!

Instead: cheap housing for the poors? That's a great move, seeing as how it was rumored that the homeless isane druggies started the fires!

73 70 Peopl not from California dn't realize that Pacific Palisades was and is one of the prime spots for real estate in the entire nation. It's one of the few places in L.A. that has spectacular ocean views, and also has the best air quality in L:A as well. And even so, it is extremely close to all the "action" (to the extent you'd want to be near the action in L.A. these days), just steps from Santa Monica, West Hollywood,S unset Blvd., most of the movie studios, near the airport, etc. T top it all off, most of the houses there were mansions or near-mansions, built in the 1920s with master craftsmanship. If I could have chosen anywhere in Sothern Caifornia to live, it would have been Pacific Palisades.

But it is exactly all these reasons why the left hates it and wants it destroyed.

The state then seized their one and only fancy hotel where most big functions in the area where held and turned the land over to a politically connected developer that will tear down the hotel and build tenements for "newcomers".

Why was this so outrageous? Was it patriotism? Was it respect for the flag? Did it violate school policy?

No, it was because they were having a multicultural day celebrating various cultures... but not English culture.

Barely, I am experimenting with making Proton based steam machines using all AMD parts. It will enable me to gift people Ryzen 1000 based gaming boxes using renewed 6600-6650xt graphics cards.

300% of a steamdeck's performance at ~ 2/3ds the price. Not portable but fun and able to be sized down to ~ a webster's dictionary sized console probably.

Think about it. You're a kid born in America to two Mexican immigrants.

Your parents are illiterate. Maybe your mom cleans toilets and your dad mows lawns.

You come up in the shitty LAUSD schools where you learn how terrible and racist America is. You go to community college, fail out. Get a job at Subway making sandwiches for $20 an hour. You live with 4 roommates in a 2 bedroom apartment. Rent keeps going up.

How do you feel about those terrible racist rich white people living in the mansions overlooking the ocean? Maybe a bit angry? Resentful?

That's the voter base in CA. They want to force those people in to poverty. They want to build affordable housing in the rich white areas. They want to fuck those people over.

The wifey and I spent the 4th of July Independence Day holiday weekend at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon (my first visit there after a dozen visits to the more built up, popular, and crowded in South Rim

It was fantastic -- and now we're among the last to have experienced and seen the historic old Lodge and Cabins

A lightning-caused wildfire some miles away began our last night there -- and instead of quickly containing and putting it out, the stupid decision was made to let it burn some undergrowth and deadwood (in red flag conditions mind you with 100° temperatures and high winds).

Now all the structures are gone (many built by 1937 after the original Lodge burned down in 192 and many workers are left with no jobs and few possessions remaining.

Hopefully President Trump and his people will cut through any red tape & idiotic regulations & building codes to get it rebuilt as faithfully, soon, and inexpensively as possible.

A cute little chipmunk appeared (they were all over the place, but likely & sadly not anymore) running around, up and down, stopping to pose for pictures ... when suddenly he went for my key fob, gnawing on it trying to get a hold of it and dragging it away!

I managed to shoo him off before he absconded with it down the canyon wall and into a den -- lost forever. We would have been totally screwed ... and possibly forcibly evacuated with someone else -- resulting in my car being a burned-out husk up there now.

---------------

In the 90s, in my town in NJ, they would broadcast the town council meetings late at night on cable (mandated public service programming) and I had insomnia.

They spent hours and hours debating where to put the state court mandated low income housing (Mt. Laurel ruling.) It was hilarious -- they discussed where all neighboring towns were putting it. It was a shit show. Nobody wanted this, but no one had political power to stop it, so towns were finding the shittiest spot - usually on the edge of town - and trying to make it so that all transportation available would dump the poors onto the next town over.

This is when I understood I had to leave NJ.

Posted by: PaleRider at July 15, 2025 03:33 PM (XatHf)

Yeah, they do fine. And we're rapidly approaching that.

You have the true aristocrat class. They may or may not have real jobs, they have intergenerational wealth and don't really care.

You have the "striving" or upper middle class class. They do the white collar work and hope to someday be in the aristocrat class, but they won't ever be accepted in to that class.

Then you have the "worker class" who exist to do everything the aristocrat class wants done.

That's kind of the way of the world, historically. The US somewhat bucked that trend, but things are equalizing out now.

The aristocrats do not want a strong middle class, that's not only terrifying to them, but also an unnecessary use of resources. The plumber doesn't need three cars and a vacation home at the lake.

I have a good friend who has a sister in Altadena and brother in Pasadena. Both were years-long renters. The brother was eventually able to move back into his home after a couple of months but the sister was not able to. The damage was too extensive. In that situation, two parties are impacted- the owner and the renter. With so many people displaced, places to rent, never mind in their children's school district, were impossible to find. What a nightmare.

2 years (very soon) and barely anything has been rebuilt.

Lahaina was a much more middle class area, with actual families, single family homes, smaller shops, et al- unlike the "resort" parts of Maui.

And the government is making sure that these places will never return with their draconian permitting process.

From the article:

"Maui County officials estimated that relaxing the SMA rule would help 103 commercial and 533 residential structures get permits a full year faster than before."

TWO YEARS AFTER THE FIRE, they are discussing relaxing a rule to make it A YEAR sooner to get through the process.

We plan to return in 2028. I'm guessing they might be building by then, but they won't have recovered.

288 I'm starting to think these man made disaster fires (or most of them) are the "climate change" Greta has been yelling about.

I do not think for one hot second that the Helene NC and TN flooding was "man made." It's happened before, I learned last year, from hurricanes hitting somewhere on the Gulf.

Camp Mystic was built on a flood plain. I would not build on a flood plane if the last flood was 100yrs ago. So I don't think that was "man made."

I don't think the flooding in NYC is "man made." I have read of flooding in subways before, which gives me the willies as sometimes it was bad enough when dry. We did take them, however, in the distant past. The only one that flipped me out was Penn Station once, and the one to the Bronx to see the Botanical Gardens...when you have a moose limb cab driver (from the station) telling you it is "unsafe" you sort of believe him.

I hope this helps turn California RED. I hope this blows up Newscum's future!

The fires in Hawaii and, at least some, in LA were homeless meth head made. Maybe they were paid by someone. Maybe they simply all need to be rounded up and put in asylums. Maybe Bass paid them so she could do this. I will start this rumor!

293 The low-income housing is for the neighborhoods and hills around the coast. A lot of people will lose their houses, but some will eventually be allowed to rebuild in those subdivision type neighborhoods in the Palisades.

But those people whose houses are right on the beach in Malibu are probably screwed.

I watched the video Adam Carolla did a few weeks ago giving a tour around the beach and some of the work that had to be done to rebuild there (a lot of pylons covered in concrete & rebar).

A lot of those houses will probably never get a permit to rebuild due to the environmental wackos wanting the beaches to be clear all the way the to the highway.

If they are allowed to rebuild it's probably going to take five years or more to finish the construction.

People will say "Screw it." and move.
Which is what the city and state wanted anyhow.

302 I don't think the flooding in NYC is "man made." I have read of flooding in subways before, which gives me the willies as sometimes it was bad enough when dry. We did take them, however, in the distant past. The only one that flipped me out was Penn Station once, and the one to the Bronx to see the Botanical Gardens...when you have a moose limb cab driver (from the station) telling you it is "unsafe" you sort of believe him.

Posted by: ChristyBlinkyTheGreat at July 15, 2025 03:59 PM (6PCLE)

It's been heavily raining on and off for days, and the subway system is, after all, underground. And it's 100 years and maintained about as well as you'd expect, so the pumps get overwhelmed / break pretty regularly.

Oh, and in much of the city (less so in Manhattan) sewage and street drains go to the same pipes, so even if the subway system is able to pump the water out, it has nowhere to go during heavy rain storms.

So the subway tunnels flood. Occasionally. And usually only in low spots.

Newscums future is a waste for a large number of reasons, so at least we got that going for us. Hoping for any good results of California voting is futile, because the voting system has become so systemically corrupt that the people there no longer are allowed to do any voting, not in any real sense.
Seriously, when the corruption in California voting is explained, any sane person will say "that isn't possible, that can't be legal, can it?" Well yes it is, and it guarantees one party rule.
Democrat Party operative are allowed to collect and fill out tens of thousands of ballots themselves, without the voter ever having seen them. Legal in California.

Yes and no. It's designed to soak money out of the builder, period. In this case, the builder happens to be a homeowner.

Like all artificial barriers, these are in place to ensure that the anointed and connected - whether builder or purchaser - can play. The builder has to know how and who to grease, and to afford the grease. The purchaser has to pay for all the grease at all levels.

All historical analyses are imperfect, and they break down completely in time, but CA reminds me of the French Revolution a bit. The normals assumed it HAD to get better, right? Right?

Like the DEM Party itself, I submit that CA has reached a tipping point now. The governing class keeps getting dragged further & further left. I see nothing to stop that trend, until the arrival of chaos-- a breakdown of all the public amenities & services that normals take for granted.

The fun part is that "Hispanic" is not a distinct racial group, and it gets less and less so each year. It used to be people who spoke Spanish at home, but now it's mainly white people who have a Spanish sounding last name.

Google's AI says 39% white, 41% hispanic, although that seems like splitting hairs.

When you get 20" of rain or more in one day, on already saturated ground, all that water has to go somewhere. In the case of the NC Mountains it went down. In the case of sandy soil in FL it rises and then flows naturally.

NC had a cold front with 4" of rain. It then met Helene with up to 30" of rain and the water had no where to go. Similar story of a lotta rain in Texas in a day or so.

I have experienced 22" of rain in a day. It is unreal, even without flooding. Imagine a fire hose on your roof type rain...seriously.

But I have read the recent rain in Texas was man made. I don't think so! In NM they have arroyos. Mostly dry until a lotta rain. Same with slot canyons in national parks. People read the signs and get caught anyway.

They've done models on this -- starting with canoes / primitive wooden boats on islands and see how many would hit land on other islands based on wind and currents.

It was astronomically low. Like almost none. And some islands that would never be hit by any boat regardless of where it launched from due to the way the winds and currents work in the Pacific. And yet people were living there when the Europeans showed up.

I think it's basically because once every few generations a large group within the island get tired of the man and his B.S., and the system hassling them, jump in their boats with friends & family and sail east until the see birds and hit land.

416 I ask ChatGPT, "Why do low-income people never qualify for low-income housing?

Here is what it says:

This is a painful irony that many people face: low-income people often don’t qualify for low-income housing due to a combination of systemic, bureaucratic, and economic barriers. Here are the most common reasons why:

1. Minimum Income Requirements
Many subsidized or income-restricted housing programs still require a minimum income to ensure tenants can afford rent—even if it's reduced.

Why this happens: Property managers need to be sure that rent (even subsidized) will be paid. If someone’s income is too low—even if they qualify by poverty standards—they may be denied for being “too poor.”

2. Extremely Long Waitlists
Demand for low-income housing vastly exceeds supply, especially in major cities.

Result: Many people wait years or even decades for housing assistance (like Section 8 vouchers or public housing).

Some waitlists are closed entirely because they’re overwhelmed.

3. Strict Eligibility Criteria
Eligibility is often based on more than just income:

Credit history: Poor or no credit can disqualify applicants.

Criminal background: Certain charges—even old or minor ones

The thing is what kind of municipal government willingly and permanently destroys the cash cow of property taxes on the hundreds of luxury homes that used to be there?

And the kind of local businesses that spring up to service luxury homes and wealthy people generate more tax income than the handful of McDonalds and Weed stores.

423 500 owners should get together and plan to start rebuilding all on the same week. Then, when LA/Calif goes bonkers to stop them, they should ignore them and slap them with a ready to go Class Action lawsuit or RICO charges.

426 If the CA government wants any of these properties, for whatever specious reason, they should be required to pay the last appraised value plus an adder for inflation. In short, what the owner was paying property tax on. Otherwise, it seems to be a violation of the takings clause, especially since the decrease in value was manufactured by the state.
