Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | The Morning Rant![]() I'm old enough to remember the summer of 1974 pretty vividly. The feeding frenzy in Washington, D.C. was the Watergate hearings leading to the resignation of President Richard M. Nixon on August 9, 1974. What is the current feeding frenzy in Attorney General Pam Bondi — who has been purging the Justice Department of anyone tied to the Jan. 6 prosecutions as well as the prosecutions of President Donald Trump — fired the lawyer personally advising her and the department’s thousands of employees on ethics, Bloomberg reported Sunday. Joseph Tirrell, who began his career in the Navy and spent almost two decades in the federal government, was fired Friday via a brief letter from Bondi, who gave no reason for the termination. The same day, Bondi fired 20 DOJ employees who were involved in prosecuting Trump. She has also recently fired employees related to the prosecutions of the Jan. 6 riots on the Capitol. Tirrell had advised Special Counsel Jack Smith on ethics related to the prosecution of Trump, Bloomberg reported. As I write this Pam Bondi is still the AG. Dan Bongino is still deputy director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. And "Law & Order" Cash Patel is still the Director of the FBI. Nothing will happen to either Bondi, Bongion or Patel. They will "kiss and make up" and somewhere down the road either they will resign or be fired. The NDAs they signed will forbid them from spilling whatever they may know. Some may call me a cynic. But, I'm a realist, nothing will happen to the Diddlers of Epstein Island. Nothing will happen to the Swamp Creatures. Nothing happens to the professional protesters but OMG how dare someone walk through the capitol? It really doesn't matter who the POTUS is anymore. There are at least two sets of laws in this country and there isn't a damn legal thing we can do about it. Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

🚨 JUST IN - MATT GAETZ, who many wanted Trump to name as Attorney General over the past week in place of Pam Bondi: "Pam Bondi is the BEST attorney general Donald Trump has had by a factor of ten thousand." "Pam Bondi is a STAR and has our full admiration and support. To those who don't share my enthusiasm, look at how far we've come." "The Bondi team successfully litigated away the judicial coup of nationwide injunctions. They did that. They won that for us." "They have created the legal infrastructure for highly effective deportations. She's got the cartels self-deporting. She has targeted the criminals and the gang networks." Had the DOJ not gone all in on claiming they were going to drop all the bombs, this would all be a very different conversation. Was that Bondi's decision? Trump's? Someone else's? I don't know, but that's the real root of the kerfuffliness. Someone got out over their skis.

6 I'm far less interested in the Epstein stuff at this point than I am in people's reaction to it.
First, a lot of people need to feel as though they know 'the truth'. See the JFK and RFK killings for examples where theories have no real evidence and persist regardless. It seems to be very hard for many people to admit that they have no information to make a real determination about something. Second, the Epstein stuff has been very revealing about right-wing "influencer" types. Who gives a nuanced take, and who keeps hammering on about it? It's a tell. We are at a point where numerous people refer to "their sources" like they are Natasha Bertrand at CNN. Bongino wasn't at work on Friday and was going to quit if Bondi wasn't fired. Nothing has happened (so far), and yet people don't (rightly) throw the person who told them this stuff under the bus as a result. Finally, a lot of people (including on this blog, unfortunately) like to be miserable. It's a slow news period. Things are mostly going pretty well (especially compared to 6-12 months ago). Instead of enjoying things, people gripe, because it's weirdly pleasant for them. Posted by: the lower depths at July 15, 2025 11:09 AM (+b4rY) 33

Thank goodness Trump is not a cynic because a cynic can never bring about positive change. I get the temptation, and realism seems like a virtue on the surface. It's good to have a healthy skepticism and not give people the benefit of the doubt until trust is earned, but it's also unproductive to throw people under the bus because things didn't happen exactly the way we wanted. But all that righteous indignation feels so good, doesn't it?

This sort of pessimistic outlook ignores real progress on issues affecting most people. Inflation, peace, reining in government abuse and weaponization (pardon of the Jan 6'ers for example), removing killers and criminals from abroad here illegally, and so on.
I notice the above post specifically ignores massive releases of JFK and RFK documents sought for decades. MLK documents coming Two track justice occurs when enough money and power can hire the lawyers to get away with a lot. If charged, at best, the wealthy are convicted of process crimes , not the underlying offense. Diddy is a perfect example--the jury refused to convict on RICO charges. Michael Jackson paid his accusers off. Bill Cosby only got into trouble when he departed from the reservation for alleged conduct in the 70's in most cases. We can seek to provide justice in our own relationships and do our best if selected for juries to provide it for the accused or litigant, but we are NOT responsible, nor should be, for the wider world of injustice. True justice can only be from the King of Kings, not from the actions of men. Posted by: whig at July 15, 2025 11:16 AM (ctrM5) 67
Trajectory and momentum are the most important things. The left got to where they are by understanding this. They're losing their grip because their idiot nepo baby successors have no idea about anything that happened before they went to kollidge. They think default progressivism is actually a physical constant of the universe and part of their birthright, and not something that was built over generations of careful and relentless cultural degradation.

Sorry but that’s just bullshit. Posted by: Its Go Time Donald at July 15, 2025 11:05 AM (ImXfC) ============ Your mischaracterization is what is bullshit. If the administration story is believable, courts forbid the release of some of the material, some is grand jury testimony and not releasable, some is defamatory and false, and therefore not releasable, some is child porn, and much of the remainder is already released. Now you can choose to believe or not believe what they say. Up to you. And, no question Bondi fumbled the ball here big time with her early grandstanding. She did. The DoJ as a whole is horribly corrupt. Bondi, as well as Patel and Bongino are/were getting fed horseshit from the lower decks. The real issue is that they didn't see this coming, didn't anticipate it. They knew ahead of time this was a problem. Whether they addressed it or not is debatable if for no other reason than the judicial coup underway.
It's entirely possible the info those 3 were provided as part of the "Epstein files" was wholly fictitious. The DoJ and it's sub agencies and bureaus like the FBI are still staffed by the enemy. Why wouldn't they feed their superiors anything and everything that would make the administration look incompetent and corrupt? And I do think MAGA has latched onto the Epstein files as some sort of litmus test. But the basis for it has been deceptively edited to aid and abet the enemy. So my last post on this before I go outside and enjoy an Undercrown Robusto...
People here who have security clearances will understand what I'm going to say here. We quickly get used to not having the full picture on any classified work we're doing. We get a small piece of the whole and operate only within those limits. There are things we don't know, and we don't know WHAT we don't know. That's the entire point. Example - guy with a Secret clearance is ordered to bomb some nondescript apartment building. He looks at the orders and on his own concludes that there's something horrible afoot, the people who live there are witnesses to corruption who need to be quieted, etc. When you get to the TS level, we see that the apartment building housed arms, troops, etc for a Muslim uprising against Warsaw or something. The first guy didn't know what he didn't know. So, is there something else in this case? Was Epstein a sooper international man of mystery? Was he an idiot and a nobody? Both? Something else? Did he write stupid manifestos such that he had to be monitored? No one here knows, and generally no one else outside of a limited few does either. No it's not a matter of "you must agree with Trump on everything". I can think that Bondi and Trump have made tactical blunders in how they've handled this. But I can also not particularly care because strategically it doesn't make a difference.
And I'm tiring of people who somehow KNOW that things are being hidden from them that will shift mountains were they released. I don't know that. YOU don't know that. It could be a bunch of victim affidavits with unverified accusations, as Dershowitz has said. But it's much more satisfying (apparently) to know for certain what the contents of documents are that you haven't seen and can't see, and to go around demanding to see these things that you already somehow know about. Posted by: the lower depths at July 15, 2025 11:25 AM (+b4rY) Yeah, there's a whole mythology around the files which has been accepted as unquestioned fact. Everyone believes, or pretends to believe, that the files are full of video of their favorite bad guys in DC, Hollywood, or Wall Street doing unspeakable things, or have neatly typed invoices with entries like "Bill Gates...a dozen underage sex slaves." I'm assuming non of trumps team had full access to any of this stuff until he became president. We also don't know how much of it was disappeared during the incredible husk's 4 years. On one hand lets say none of it was buried. Is it possible once trumps team got an actual look they were horrified at what they found? Is it some weird lynch pin scenario? What if heads of allied countries are implicated? They tried to get trump for saying pussy. We heard from all the "muh principal" types who would vote in fucking satan over trump just for that alone. The army of darkness is marching. Look at that douchebag that might become mayor of NYC. The enemies are at the gates everywhere waiting, just waiting for the moment voters do the muh principle dance. What happens if this epstein list has the power to topple countries? Or, our own? Problem is we don't know, and it sure as shit wouldn't topple dictatorships, only the mushy west. It could be a frigging pandora's box for all we know. It's not ingratitude or lack of recognition for what Trump has done in 2025. It's knowing that Epstein had real dirt on the people that really run this country (the world?), and he was killed in his jail cell before any testimony and it's been covered up across the political spectrum. So if it's acceptable to the power players to let Trump do whatever he's doing but not acceptable to let Epstein spill, what is the end-game that these billionaire elites are after? Is whatever Trump is doing just a smoke screen (e.g. the pendulum will swing back later?) while they clone themselves, destroy the environment to 'save' it (cloud seeding, etc.), and promote whatever is needed to control the population to both save the world and keep themselves on top? This is why the Epstein situation is so disheartening. It doesn't mean we don't take what we can get from what Trump is doing, but it makes you think it won't matter in the end because Bill Gates et al is still fulfilling his evil ends because he got what he wanted (Epstein dead and Trump... whatever)

Three problems with the Epstein thing.
First, as everyone has said, Bondi promising the world and delivering nothing. Second, it's the first right-wing conspiracy theory that's still entirely behind closed doors. Even if "nothing will happen" to Our Betters, we've seen the reality behind the origins of Covid, the vaccine, the voting machines, the Russia files, the autopen pardons, etc etc. Pedogate remains behind closed doors. Third, the nature of the crime. We're used to being ruled by liars and thieves. Slavers and pedophiles is a bridge way too far. Posted by: mikeski at July 15, 2025 11:50 AM (IChGZ) 250

It doesn't mean we don't take what we can get from what Trump is doing, but it makes you think it won't matter in the end because Bill Gates et al is still fulfilling his evil ends because he got what he wanted (Epstein dead and Trump... whatever)

I'm amazed at how people don't realize that in order to charge someone with a crime, you need to have a witness who is willing to testify and participate in the prosecution. So far, the only one of the teenage girls who was willing to have her face plastered all over the newspapers, gossip rags and internet sites was Virginia Guiffre, who named Prince Andrew as her rapist. She sued and won a major settlement from him, got him practically excommunicated from the royal family, who also stripped him of titles, homes, etc. Then she ended up committing suicide. Others who also were on the island, have been mostly quiet except for the few that testified anonymously at Ghislane's trial. The flight logs have been published. The list of names on it, with juveniles redacted is public knowledge. Does that mean every one of them had sex with 16-17 year old girls on the island or in his home in NY? Highly unlikely. Without cooperative witnesses, who many have likely asked to be left alone, what case do you have?

Yeah, there's a whole mythology around the files which has been accepted as unquestioned fact. Everyone believes, or pretends to believe, that the files are full of video of their favorite bad guys in DC, Hollywood, or Wall Street doing unspeakable things, or have neatly typed invoices with entries like "Bill Gates...a dozen underage sex slaves." That's thinking born from TV shows and movies, not reality.
-- It's our version of the "tipping point" delusion of the left. They imagine the the Next Big Scandal about Trump will finally be The Scandal that tips the public against him. We "IF we can just reveal all the evil these people do, everyone will turn against the Democrats!" No. Most won't care. You think the "sterilizing kids is a human right" and the "dildos for daycare" crowd care about diddling kids? FFS. This is politics; there will never be a clean outcome in this fallen world. We're just degenerate gamblers betting our time on outcomes we can't control. This is just another entertainment with high stakes. If it really bothers you that the White Hats aren't winning, you might be better suited for TVLand. Posted by: People's Hippo Voice at July 15, 2025 11:59 AM (g9iKZ) 293

For over a century, the land now occupied by the Watergate complex belonged to the Gas Works of the Washington Gas Light Company, which produced "manufactured gas", a mixture of hydrogen, carbon monoxide, methane, and other flammable and nonflammable gases, for heating, cooking, and lighting throughout Washington, D.C. Gas production ceased at the site in 1947, and the plant was demolished shortly thereafter.

Jen,
exactly. Without witnesses there is only circumstantial. A name being on a some list is useless. What crime did they commit? Who wrote "The List"? The List is a huge McGuffin, and it's most probably been compromised and you have no way of proving otherwise. I'm pretty sure it is useless in Court and some people are trying to clue you in to this but sadly you will never be satisfied because the fact is that "Nothing Will Happen" is the bottom line. Posted by: ... ====== Zimmerman case was a bit more complicated. Bondi picked Corey as special prosecutor which frankly the local prosecutor had no problem with. So you are essentially conflating Bondi picking Corey (who delegated to the trial attorneys) as special prosecutor as railroading Zimmerman. In a similar case in GA, Gov. Kemp's AG used a special prosecutor from the Atlanta area to go after the three dudes in the jogging Arberry case because the local DA refused to prosecute. Those guys got convicted and are serving what is probably life sentences for them. High profile cases get special prosecutors including the fake hate crime actor in Chicago--Jesse Smollett or some such. I am certainly not aware of statements, etc. made by Bondi that indicated favorability to Zimmerman or to the Martin family so please point those out to me if you have them and I will revise my opinion accordingly. Let me add to my already jaded view: I went to a suburban public high school in the 80s. There were a number of girls in high school who were "good to go" / "DTF." Legitimately, it was mostly locker room talk but there were always few who did "take a year off" from school. This aspect of the culture does not seem to have changed much in the intervening years, though there are more dudes trying to be chicks than there were in 1986.
The fact that the avengers must face is that these Epstein girls, whatever the actual events, were not held against their will and were likely compensated for their activities. Posted by: Big Fat Meanie at July 15, 2025 12:09 PM (qwx/I) 334
I don't care.
It's obvious that you can't release lists of people who might not have done anything wrong and ultimately the Epstein thing is not going to make any material difference to the lives of Americans or the stability of World. They shouldn't have overpromised, that was stupid. Perhaps a public inquiry would patch that hole. Unfortunately, those people who won't be satisfied that there is no smoking gun and nobody is going to prison just need to suck it up. A lot of people don't necessarily want a legal conviction, they want a destroyed reputation.
And I understand that. If you're a shitbird, I want to know you're a shitbird. Posted by: Washington Nearsider --- Well said and that is where innocent people get trampled in the rush for judgment. This is especially true as Barr, Wray, Garland, etc. are not trustworthy custodians of any evidence and the FBI botched the case purposefully (same thing in Las Vegas with the killer sniper case) by failing to gather evidence promptly (videotapes, documents, etc. were apparently not gathered after Epstein's arrest) for days after (Epstein Island) or 24 hours or so in NYC case. Dunno about NM ranch. The ancient Greek philosophers valued justice but they also recognized that an excessive zeal for justice can lead to bad things happening as the cause becomes bigger than the process for justice. Epstein probably was an 'asset' of intel agencies giving information to those agencies for decades. Like Whitey Bulger. But unlike Bulger and the FBI, the CIA cannot legally work inside the country--so they would either have a partner agency MI-6 for example, act as conduit. Good morning, MH. I trust you feel better after that well constructed rant. No sarcasm intended nor implied in reference to it. My rejoinder is to take a brief look at our history, and you'll find numerous instances where we met with and prevailed over issues that were even more serious than the current mess, with an unbroken success record. This , when the dust settles, will be no different. We succeed because we are governed by a political system unique in history. This has given rise to an extraordinary population whose heritage has been one in which succeeding generations have continued the struggle of their predecessors to ensure that our Republic endures. It's never been, nor will be a simple, easy task--more a tough slog to ultimate victory. I believe in that fact and my country with unshakeable faith. 3/23/2012 “(Corey) is one of the toughest prosecutors in the country. (...) She will work closely with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Justice Department,” Bondi, a Republican, told Newsmax.TV in the exclusive interview. “They are going to leave no stone unturned in this investigation. When you have a young man who was shot and killed walking home, we have to have all these questions answered. The citizens deserve to have the questions answered as well as, and especially, Trayvon’s family.” -------- At that point in time no one attached to any part of reality believed Trayvon was killed while simply "walking home". In the grand scheme of things, Epstein is a very big deal. If Israel and or the CIA is blackmailing our elected officials, Right Now, that is, well, important. For Israel, its a causus belli. For the CIA, its justification for the rope.
Trump is lying for some reason. Maybe a good one. Probably at least a half decent reason. I will continue to trust Trump, but the Epstein Files are never, ever going to go away.
