Eurogliders are a band formed in 1980 in Perth, Western Australia, which included Grace Knight on vocals, Bernie Lynch on guitar and vocals, and Amanda Vincent on keyboards. In 1984, Eurogliders released an Australian top ten album, This Island, which spawned their No. 2 hit single, "Heaven". Wikipedia

Grace Knight, the lead singer for Perth's Eurogliders (inkblot self-loathing?) went on to have a solo jazz career as Australia's diva. Some years later she reunited with the band and they are now on tour. And if you can't make it to Australia to see them, here's a sample of her singing a jazz standard.

Odd dream this morning. I was in a hotel, cleaning up old paperwork of my own from my computer field days -- notes and printouts of code I had absolutely no memory of doing (even in the dream). Also at the hotel was a convention of Get Smart fans, and I fell into conversation with them and offered my own commentary on the series and why it worked. I woke up about the time I was opining on why GS worked as a comedy and other comic shows Don Adams did, or shows/movies with a similar situation, did not.

Sipping coffee I am, and planning to go for a last workout, very mild, before my surgery tomorrow. I'll keep the afternoon nap short and make bedtime tonight a little later, so, with luck, I can sleep tonight instead of laying there picturing all sorts of horrors.
Can't eat or drink after midnight tonight, of course. That's gonna be a strain first thing tomorrow. I'll keep a little cold coffee in the fridge so I can have a few swallows Monday afternoon; that will head off the coffee withdrawal symptoms. Get Smart *worked* because it did not try to graft bumbling comedy onto a relatively realistic TV world. It set up its own loony little universe, with barely-competent villains with disordered grandiose plots, and then let Max and 99 deal with it all. Adams' later series The Partners, from what I recall, had him and his fellow cop as comic loose cannons within a police department that could have come from Dragnet. That just did not work.
Trivia bit: The fellow who wrote the GS theme song, Irving Szathmary? He was Bill Dana's brother (Dana's real name was Szathmary). Dana and Don Adams had worked together on The Bill Dana Show a few years back, where Dana played his Jose Jimenez character and Adams was a goofy hotel detective. I'd like to see some of those episodes. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at July 13, 2025 06:29 AM (omVj0) 38

I think the new C64, if positioned correctly, can be a great learning computer for kids, and there are a fair number of people who like retro gaming, so if they can create a dev kit that lets people easily build 8-bit games and especially cartridge based 8-bit games that would be awesome.

I don't know if the prairie dog village still exists, but in the summer of 1979 there was one such village on I-80 somewhere in Nevada. I was on summer leave with a fellow cadet and I had a new car, so we drove from NY to his father's home in San Francisco. I had to return to West Point in a couple of weeks to be cadre for the incoming class of 1983.
It was a pretty big prairie dog infestation; maybe there were several such villages along the interstate. Be that as it may, small animals and roads result in roadkill. We noticed that some prairie dogs were attempting to pull the dead off the traffic lanes and thought that was perhaps the mates of the dead trying to save their mate (thinking they might still be alive). I'm not entirely heartless and attempted to miss the little bastards after we saw that, since I was the one driving in that stretch. (continues...) More to the point, it was built against the wishes of the citizens, who only caved in after being held hostage by the rancid Pat Bowlen, who had a temper tantrum and threatened to move the team if he didn't get his shiny thing. The cadet I was with looked more closely at such attempts and commented that they weren't pulling mates off the road but were pulling food off the road; they were cannibal little bastards. After we figured that out, I tried to run over any prairie dog I saw. Unfortunately, we at the tail end of that group of prairie dog villages. So he shows me the sights in SF back in the day; pier 39, the Coast Guard unit he served with before he went to USMA, etc. We found a store that sold bumper stickers; one such bumper sticker said "Caution: I speed up to run over small animals." I bought it and put it on my car, along with my NY state plates and my USMA parking bumper sticker which has the Pallas Athena image on it. You were one of the people that wanted an update on my 3-day off road trip. Day-1, i took a very low speed fall mid stream in a water crossing. Basically slipped on slimy moss in about 8" of clear flowing water. Front wheel caught a diagonal rut and followed it. Broke the left mirror. I was going through it with both feet down like trainin wheel for stability, but when the front wheel followed the rut in the rock, the bike fell on my leg, wrenched the coon dog shit out of my knee. Quads are swollen, sore, and can barely hold my weight when standing. I decided the prudent th___ to do was cut the trip short and come home, skipp___ the planned days 2 and 3. If it had been just the mirror and not my knee too, i would still be out ther finishing day 3. Can't lift the bike if i dropped it again. 1979. 55 MPH speed limit. It's in the afternoon and I realize that I am near the prairie dog village complex. The sun's behind me but there other cars (not many) in front of me. Hah! Speed up to 65, pass everyone who promptly follow me at a distance so the cops pull my ass over instead of theirs. *I'm* looking ahead for prairie dogs, who can't really see me due to the glare of the setting sun. I see a prairie dog ahead, line the car up (lanes be damned), and try to run the little bastard over. Rinse and repeat. I get some and miss others, but anyone following me knows I'm trying to run them over. After a while, I see that I'm out of the prairie dog village complex. Drop the speed back to 55, sit in the right lane, and watch those who followed me pass by. I'm there with my crew cut (have to look vicious for the new cadets, after all), dog tags hanging out (still wear them, btw) and wave to those who stare at the madman. //end Posted by: Richard Cranium at July 13, 2025 08:34 AM (oyXgq) 127

I have been to Dodge City, but not as a tourist. It seems interesting, but not enough for a separate trip. Lucas, with the Garden of Eden art, and the local art stores was of more interest to me. I had a good friend that was a Republican Congressman's staffer. He was set up by the Deep State, and railroaded by the State of Kansas. He spent time in the jail at Dodge City. We went to the Court House during his sentencing, and gave a positive character statement. I learned to distrust the entire justice system from that episode.
