Technology in medicine is fantastic these days but I’m here to tell you the replacement parts are not as good as the originals. My eye is healing very well but still one more week with no exercise. Usually Saturday morning I’d be out doing my weekend “long run” (10 miles or so). Eye surgeon said take it easy one more week so I’m stir crazy. I feel very thankful though… usually anyone with an artificial knee is told “don’t run!!” But I’ve been running with it for a few years now and it’s fine… not as good as the original equipment though! Does anybody have recurring dreams that are the same in overall theme while differing in certain derails?
Mine involves finding myself at a large hospital, maybe a major medical center, maybe a large military hospital. I have been assigned to work there and am reporting for my first day of work. I then spend the entire dream wandering the place trying to find where I am supposed to report, up and down elevators, out behind the dumpsters, different floors etc.. This morning I was at Ft. Bragg (or maybe Ft. Hood) wearing BDUs and trying to find the ER, where I was scheduled to do a month-long rotation. Odd little detail, the charts were color coded to identify over-utilizers of the ER. They were only allowed four weekend visits per quarter. Other times it has been Children's Hospital, or Charity Hospital in New Orleans, or Fitzsimons Army Med Center. Sometimes just Generic General Hoospital. Posted by: muldoon at July 12, 2025 08:11 AM (poXs5) --- My grandfather, who was skilled in carpentry and wood carving, always emphasized this. Use the right tool, and if it's a blade, keep it sharp. Not only will it cut easier, you will be more careful around a very sharp knife than a dull one. He also emphasized cutting away rather than towards yourself, but for certain fine movements, it was inevitable, and so he made special equipment. One that i remember well is taking several thumbs out of leather gloves and layering protective tape on it, so he could cut towards his thumb without hurting himself. I thought it was silly - just a leather thumb - but it worked. Posted by: Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. Lloyd at July 12, 2025 08:40 AM (ZOv7s) 74

I don't have recuring theme dreams as such, but most dreams generally are anxiety inducing - but ultimately about minor troubles that somehow take on a larger meaning during the dream.
When I wake and think about them, I will realize the situation was unimportant or not dangerous at all but still, caused me to be worried. I mean, how bad is a dream where one is picking up spilled nuts, bolts, nails, washers, screws and cotter pins and you keep dropping the just picked up item? Worrying about worrying worries me. ----------- That is really eerie. I have had that dream so many times. The oddest part is, it's never just a replay of the same dream. The setting is always different. It's the THEME that is exactly the same every time. The scenario must key into something deeply embedded in my limbic system. Posted by: Cicero (@cicero43) at July 12, 2025 08:53 AM (dDmld) 95

------------- I have two recurring dreams; I'm either in a building or a city, trying to return to, "a starting point" or the exit. Keep going in weird circles and eventually wake up. In the other one, I'm driving, usually on a highway and there's a hill I go up and over and the car leaves the ground and goes flying. The most fully read AOS thread. Prayers sent for everyone above as well as those suffering silently.
I want to thank all of you for your thoughts and prayers for me. The house officially became mine June 30th ending 6 months of uncertainty since Mom passed. I took a week off and Monday my friend took me to a Christian trailer park to his trailer. It was my first time out of the house overnight in 9.9 years. It was very nice there. My friend would leave the trailer unlocked even with his laptop there. I'm stronger. I've been watching a lot of videos about surrendering to God and prayer. And this morning I watched a great video about processing emotions differently. I choose to laugh at all my past traumas to rewire my brain. Even the last 6 months when I lost so much. I selfishly forgive my brother for myself. I'll never talk to him or his family again since I know what kind of people they are, but I forgive them. Thank you all. Posted by: muldoon at July 12, 2025 08:40 AM I have had two different themed recurring dreams for years now. First theme is of being back in either high school (graduated 1994) or college ('99) and finding out that I am late for an exam. Or finding out I have an exam, but for some reason did not go to class in the weeks leading up to the exam, so I have no idea what is on it. Another where I need to get to class, but I don't know where the class is and I can't find my class schedule. Another where it is 3 weeks into the semester and I find out I have a class I didn't know about and I am embarrassed thinking about walking into class for the first time during week 3. Second themed recurring dream/nightmare is numerous, various ways of my Jeep being stolen. Have had this numerous times over the past few years. Where I walk out of my childhood home or my current home or out of a store into a parking lot and I realize that I can't find my Jeep, because it's been stolen. Personal Growth and Empowerment: It can indicate a sense of newfound confidence, competence, and the ability to rise above challenges. Spiritual Growth: Some interpretations suggest flying dreams reflect a connection to higher consciousness or a spiritual journey. Control and Perspective: Feeling weightless and in control of your flight can signify a sense of mastery over your life and the ability to view situations from a different vantage point. Last week was the Feast Day of the Chinese Martyrs (it has various other names).
You've probably heard of the Boxer Rebellion and the siege of the Legation Quarter in Peking (made into a movie starring Charleton Heston), but did you know that the Northern Cathedral in Peking was also placed under siege by the boxers. Bishop Alfonse Favier offered sanctuary to more than 3,500 Chinese Christians and sent an appeal to the Legation Quarter for aid. In response 43 French and Italian sailors volunteered to help defend the cathedral - which actually held out for 57 days before being relieved. In one instance, a Boxer charge was stopped dead in its tracks by two volleys from the sailors, who killed 43 Boxers instantly out of 58 shots fired. Posted by: Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. Another recurring themed dream I have is where my brain tells me I cannot wake up until I figure out a problem I am trying to solve in my dream.
First time I had it was about 10 years ago and it was a design issue that I was struggling with at work. I was working on it in my dream and I was certain that if I didn't figure it out, I couldn't wake up. Something finally clicked and I realized, wait, I don't need to solve this to wake up, I can just wake up and... I woke up. Other dreams like that where I felt stuck in the dream unless I completed something and thankfully found a way to wake up even though I was unable to complete the task in the dream. I have a recurring dream about showing up for something completely unprepared. For years I was a student showing up for an exam--decades after I'd actually BEEN a student. Then it was finally showing up to teach a class for which I was unprepared. (I taught for 24 years but have been retired for quite some time.)
I have a similar line of dreams where I am trying to get somewhere familiar but the streets, or terrain, or whatever keep changing, keeping me lost and frustrated. Posted by: Art Rondelet of Malmsey at July 12, 2025 09:38 AM (FEVMW) 159
Went for a walk by the local canal . I saw sliders ( the turtles, not the burgers or sandwiches of some sort) some purple plant that looked like clover but isn't , some star shaped white flower the size of a thumbnail and with a yellow center and some tiny insect smaller than the top of a nail and which was bright blue. Now I am sitting outside a store while the guys are shopping for sporting goods inside and there are some lillies with read outside and yellow inside. I am thankful to God that I can see these lovely things.

I'm hardly ever in my dreams--I dream stories. Example: a basketball player named Rameses Mallaby is at a some kind of psychiatric facility to deal with his anger issues, where he meets and falls in love with Katerina van der Lynn, a former child prodigy pianist, there for killing her abusive father.

The very worst dream I ever had was that I was in a vicious firefight (but oddly, that part wasn't scary) and we got hit by something big - a mortar or grenade, and I lost both legs. I startled awake, sort of, I was still half asleep, and tried to leap out of bed. I didn't realize it but I was in the top bunk, my legs had become entangled in the sheets and while jumping out, got hung up upside down and was kicking and flopping about.
Mom had heard me and stood in the doorway, afraid to come in. That one took awhile to settle down from. I do wonder though, what came first? Did my legs fall asleep after being twisted up in the sheets and THEN I constructed the dream to comport with the state of my legs? Dunno. Posted by: Tonypete at July 12, 2025 09:48 AM (cYBz/) 171

This may be an older story (June 2023), but I just saw it, and it's hilarious.
After Hamtramck, Michigan, known as the only American city with an all-Muslim city council and mayor, voted to NOT display the Pride flag on city buildings, former Mayor Pro Tem Catrina Stackpoole (a Lefty lesbian) said: "We welcomed you," she told the city council in a public meeting. "We created nonprofits to help feed, clothe, and find housing. We did everything we could to make your transition here easier, and this is how you repay us? By stabbing us in the back?" I saw it on Twitter, and laughed hard because I assumed it was about the downfall of England. Then, I saw it was a Michigan town... I have also had good themed recurring dreams. Granted, they were good at the time I had them. Since they never came true, it's tough to look back at them now with the same good feelings.
But I first had recurring dreams about my first college (and first ever) girlfriend. I had them so many times in the year after we broke up and remembered them so vividly, I decided to write about them to see if I could get them to stop. Dreaming of You (1999): https://bit.ly/3U8bHWN Over the years, I've also had vivid dreams about a potential love or my "dream" girl that I couldn't stop thinking about after waking. It was also so disappointing waking from them. Was like the scene towards the end of "Somewhere in Time" when Christopher Reeve gets sent back in time after seeing the penny from his own time and he's desperately grasping to hang on to the dream. Mornin' Horde, if anybody could lift a prayer for my mother it would be most appreciated. Still recovering from a UTI plus 3 falls within a couple days. No falls since early Tuesday morning. During the day, there is slight improvement in her ability to feed herself or cooperate in transferring from bed to wheelchair to toilet and such. She is also making the occasional smartass remark, which is a good thing.
When she starts sundowning though, she can't get comfortable in any position until she finally conks out. As the day goes on she becomes a dead weight when we have to lift her - clings to whatever she can hold in abject fear. She only weighs about 105-110 but it is HARD to lift/move someone who is frozen in fear. Yesterday evening she was barely speaking. She's eating very little. The one consistent positive is she is drinking a lot of fluids, and we know her kidneys are working. We also got her a hospital bed. If she cannot regain a little more mobility (doesn't have to be able to walk, but to transfer and get around without being lifted every time) and consistently feed herself, she won't be able to stay at assisted living. There are beautiful purple and pink Rose of Sharon plants outside. Posted by: FenelonSpoke I finally freed our five blue varietal Rose of Sharon bushes of the accursed honeysuckle that had been strangling them for the past year. Next week I'm taking on the wild grape (?) that is doing the same thing to our large rhododendron, the only one with white blooms in our yard. Happy Bastille Day you Froggy McFrogs.
Well, that explains the "classical" selection du jour. But MiladyJo and Wiki say Bastille Day is July 14. The French Revolution has always confused me. On Bastille Day they let a bunch of prisoners go, lots of folk lost their heads, and they ended up with Napoleon or a king or something. I just know for sure they did not end up like the American Revolution. Catchy anthem tune, though, if you don't know the lyrics. 😆 Good morning. I need a 2nd cuppa and to peruse the prayer list now. In 4th grade, the French teacher, of Irish descent, walked around the room praising those who wore green, disapproving of those who didn't, and was utterly stunned by the guy who wore a shirt of orange and green.
