Inferno
Sarah Lucas

Why three? Because I had to look at it, and I am a big believer in sharing the pain. This was in the modern art gallery of the Tate Britain, which is an otherwise wonderful museum, filled with great British art. For some unfathomable reason, they feel that this sort of stuff deserves to be seen.

They are wrong.

This is the blurb about it.

In Inferno, two walnuts and a cigar become makeshift genitalia. The warm lightbulb glowing in the bowl suggests a fiery underworld. The toilet is an intimate place and a regular subject for Sarah Lucas. Throughout her work, everyday objects are playfully transformed to expose the mischievous, destructive and vulnerable parts of life. Humour is central to her work, often creating a sense of unease. Lucas says, ‘When humour happens, things get good. Less depressing. It's a kind of magic. Suddenly things make sense.’

Sarah should probably expand her horizons past the bathroom.

Why does the toilet have to be filthy and broken? If she wanted an intimate twig and berries, why not use, say a twig and berries? Something natural and clean. Modern art doesn’t seek to entertain, it seeks to invade and disgust and repel. She thinks this is humorous?

19 Miss Lucas, you know you really need some help. A regular psychiatrist couldn't even help you. You need to come to like Vienna or something. You know what I mean? You need to get involved at the University level. Like where I studied and have all these people looking at you and checking up on you. That's the kind of help you need. Not the once a week for eighty bucks. No. You need a team. A team of psychiatrists working round the clock thinking about you, having conferences, observing you, like the way they did with the Elephant Man. That's what I'm talking about because that's the only way you're going to get better.

Instead you have some brain dead 'artist' given space and approval by an even more brain dead board of directors.

It would be only just if someone took a dump in this 'art'. A way of saying: "You shit on us, we'll return the favor."

Years ago the MFA had a piece in its modern "art" wing that was just a square of canvas, with the upper half painted white and the lower half painted yellow (or vice versa). I looked at my sister and said, what's this one called? Yellow and White? I looked at the tag, and sure enough, it was called Yellow White. Repulsive? No. Violent? No. Stupid AF? Yes.

88 The choice of "male" genitalia here is highly problematic. It underscores the artist's complete surrender to Patriarchial systems of control and oppression. At least the artist could have deigned to balance the choice with a symbol of female genitalia - Georgia O'Keefe weeps -- that would offset the toxic testoteronivitity of the current piece.

On the other hand, gay art patrons might find this stimulating, so I will grant that, given the viewer's perspective, it may not be totally without merit.

To be even more au courant, dare you consider packing them in tomato sauce, or would you decline and opt for mustard sauce instead?

Come to think of it, such a thing would be a fitting remembrance token for him when he passes on.

139 She could have easily hidden most of the wiring underneath the toilet. The power cord could’ve been hidden by building a pedestal, running the wiring through it, and backing it up against the wall.

But since it’s obvious she threw this thing together in about three days that would’ve required too much work, and the laziness of the entire piece calls for more obvious laziness just to keep the theme going.

I’m not a teenage boy anymore, so bathroom humor no longer really appeals to me.

The sad part is this thing has probably got a sky-high price estimate on it when it’s only worth the price of the part she pulled out of a garbage heap and the cost of some led lights and a cigar.

I never really cared about the “Found Art” trend (which is what this installation basically is) but it’s been all the rage in art schools for decades.

1) One of Epstein's closest friends was former Israeli PM Ehud Barak.

2) A key source of Epstein's vast wealth, though mysterious, was from Les Wexner, whose primary life cause is Israel.

3) Ghislaine Maxwell's father - the billionaire Robert Maxwell -- was a Mossad agent who mysteriously died after that was reported. Though Maxwell was British, Israel gave him a state funeral when he died.

4) Epstein got the red carpet treatment when visiting Israel.

5) Epstein bankrolled major investments in Israeli tech.

(Evidence below)

But fine, if Epstein had no ties to Israeli intelligence or any other intel service - which is theoretically possible - why can't Pam Bondi, CIA and FBI say that?

That someone else then spoke a phrase to whomever he was with as he stood back up, and from about the second word, I knew it was Cleese. He was with his wife, the woman who played the maid in "Fawlty Towers." She co-wrote the scripts, if I recall correctly.

255 I had a John Cleese moment in the Tate London once. Bending over to look at the sig on a painting, I sensed a head close by. Someone else examining the signature.

That someone else then spoke a phrase to whomever he was with as he stood back up, and from about the second word, I knew it was Cleese. He was with his wife, the woman who played the maid in "Fawlty Towers." She co-wrote the scripts, if I recall correctly.

John Cleese had a cameo in a Dr. Who episode. The TARDIS materializes in the Louvre, and he and a woman were pretentiously critiquing it as modern art. Then the Doctor ran in, the TARDIS dematerialized, and they were even ore impressed by the "art". Nice little moment of satire there.

264 And there is a number of spy and mole stories that were never resolved.

Simply put, most of what our elite get up to is vile decadence when they are not hoovering up other people's money, buying favors from pols, and seeking to misuse power. "Put not your trust in princes", indeed.

So you get into the rather nasty business as president where US intel agencies pal around with foreign ones to all get around spying on their own politicians. They simply outsource the job to other countries intel. PDT is also dealing with the despicable creatures in the Obama, Clinton, and Biden junta with the power to run amuck creating all kinds of fake and gay shit for their evil power games.

During the ensuing years after the heyday of Ghislaine and Epstein, we are left with documents of dubious quality, evidence that has gone missing or been tampered with over the years, and a persistent DoJ and IC internal corruption to a degree that no sane person would believe that Wray, Garland, Monaco, federal prosecutors, FBI agents, and our intel agencies with their foreign friends like MI-6 have not poisoned the evidence stream to the extent any cases would be non-prosecutable.

When I attended Sonoma State, all of the bathroom stall walls in the Art Dept. building were wrapped in white butcher paper and folks were encouraged to draw or write on them. After a while, they'd remove the paper, hang it in the halls, and put up fresh. It being the Art dept. the grafitti was somewhat more elevated above the 'Here I sit, broken-hearted' level and typical filthy drawings, but not by much. The practice did keep the stall walls from being scratched up and permanently defaced, so there was that.

278 Read someday, if you haven't, how Whitey Bulger was an informant for the FBI for decades and the FBI and local prosecutors, including a guy named Robert Mueller kept three innocent men in jail for a crime that Whitey and his crew committed.

Then there is the DoJ, Intel Community, and a host of people like AG Ed Meese, Billy Bob Barr, FBI chief Louie Freeh, and so on that were involved in the Inslaw scandal.

There is the astonishing lethal effects that we commonly joke about if you are around the Clintons and their web of corruption.

Then Congress has a secret slush fund to pay off sexual predator victims, they engage in inside trading, sell off their votes and influence to big donors, and use their powers to benefit the club, not the people.

Simply put, it is a really big club of awful people that are embedded in this country's (and most others) ruling class and most of what we see is probably about ten percent of what is going on.

279 But CNN and the rest of the scum are the ones pushing the right to make a big deal out of it; a "conspiracy theory that put Trump in office."

Right wing media has been leading this charge.
---
And what drives the conversation on the right-wing media?
They talk about the same things "everybody" else is talking about.
And if CNNN/MSNBC/et al. are pushing a story, it's going to be a story on right-wing media.

I'm asking, shouldn't we be very, very cautious of being on the same "side" of a story as CNN?
That Trump "didn't deliver" on his promise?
Or, as they put it, giving a "platform" to an issue that only hurts Trump?

282 During the ensuing years after the heyday of Ghislaine and Epstein, we are left with documents of dubious quality, evidence that has gone missing or been tampered with over the years, and a persistent DoJ and IC internal corruption to a degree that no sane person would believe that Wray, Garland, Monaco, federal prosecutors, FBI agents, and our intel agencies with their foreign friends like MI-6 have not poisoned the evidence stream to the extent any cases would be non-prosecutable.

Exactly right.

There will be little to no Earthly justice for a lot of those involved.
That doesn't mean let it go.
But it also doesn't mean kneecap Trump over it.
Capone went to jail over tax evaision.
Destroying the power of the elite is more painful to them than the scandal.

Do you see a different outcome when the defendant has billions and politicians in his pocket?

People never ask themselves about the media (and the conservative media is as poisoned by being owned by oligarchs as well) what is the purpose they are trying to achieve with a story.

Part of it is clicks--sex, alleged coverups, and murders among the elite are always good for clicks.

A second part of it is to drive the conversation of elites and commoners like sheep into corrals.

Some are trying to use Epstein and Co as a bludgeon against Jews and Israel. Some are trying to use it to attack the Trump policies that are showing immediate success in economics, etc. Some are those that get captured by a narrative arc and cannot let it go (the whole Karen Read saga for example). Some hunt for victims they can champion (while conveniently ignoring massive crimes committed by human traffickers from other lands), and some are engaged in a cynical political effort to derail PDT for personal and political reasons.

And James Comey's daughter as one of his prosecutors.

More realistically, I have read as much of the documents released as I could about Epstein/Ghislaine. They are out there from the civil lawsuit filed against Prince Andrew, the original criminal complaint evidence including the investigating cop's report, and so on.

We know a lot about his and Ghislaine's methods in 'recruiting' staff. Some were over 18, some were less than 18 (seem to recall that one was 15) but the girls that gave depositions or testimony focused on their lives more than clients. Giuffre gave the longest deposition naming names, etc. and some of these facts were later found to be distorted or even fabricated. Superlawyer David Boies and his partners scoured up some of the Epstein girls as plaintiffs in various lawsuits which vanished over time as the cases were either dropped or quietly settled.

What we do not know is why.

286 Picture reminded me of an incident i vaguely remember from when i was young - not yet in kindergarten. Parents were not rich (8 kids will do that to you) but mom was a big fan of Better Homes & Garden magazine - so occasionally on a weekend dad would load us all up in the station wagon to visit some open houses - for mom's sake. No real intent to buy - just a free activity mom would love.

Most of us kids would stay in the car (with comics and coloring books to keep us busy) and the parental units would do the tour with one or two of us to stretch their legs. One time I was such a kid and wandered off - saw a toilet and did my business (#2). It was a new build - so the water hadn't been turned on yet. Parents asked where I'd been - I told them. We left quickly before the realtor could know it was us.

Hopefully some 4 year old having to go will see this "exhibit" and make it interactive.

289 There is a British show called Landscape Artist of the Year. Its a competition show where each episode 6 or so painters compete to paint a landscape of a selected location. It is then judged by 4 'experts'. 90% of the time they choose the last one I would choose.
Posted by: polynikes at July 14, 2025 11:00 AM (VofaG)

Its a critics disease. You see a zillion movies and the only ones that get a response are the ones that are crazy or different. If you lose touch with that sense of the normal, you've lost the audience.
