It's always cool to see an heirloom repurposed. From stitching to a laptop workstation. There are many ways you can make your old singer machine work for you. Below are 10 functional upcycled sewing machine table ideas to consider. Nice pictures of this antique Singer getting a makeover. Any of the Horde have an old Singer (sewing machine)? Or a repurposed one? Don't tell Disco Doof, but we're doing a "This day in music history" without him. Glen Campbell and Tanya Tucker sang the Star-Spangled Banner at the 1980 Republican Convention. It’s no industry secret that Tucker dabbled in some “non-prescriptions” from time to time, and based on this long told tale of her duet with Glen Campbell at the 1980 Republican National Convention, both her and the “Rhinestone Cowboy” singer were on a little something when they sang the “Star Spangled Banner.”Never get tired of this song. Hi All,
Today marked one week since Dad's (Ciampino) passing. We find it hard to believe a week has already gone by. My sister had a cry at work on her break. Her coworkers bought us some food to make sure we eat. We haven't been sleeping or eating much. Our neighbor also called to check on us. He considers us like his kids, so he looks out for us. [Link to Ciampino's fund: https://t.co/NfEjq7HEkV] To make today worse, we had to rush Purrcy to the vet. He was bleeding from his mouth again, but this time his chest, legs and the floor had blood everywhere. He then proceeded to collapse and gasp for air. He's currently on the bathroom floor, still bleeding, but otherwise the vet didn't seem worried. I did make a post about him on the cat fundraiser. [Link to cat fund: https://t.co/iS8XTjbmSR] Huge thanks to those who have donated to both funds. Posted by: Joyenz at July 14, 2025 10:52 PM (sPQoU) 114

I asked him what the deal was and he said finding two MG's that way seemed like a sign. He had one running but it had no floor board. I got a piece of plywood and cut it to shape. Any of the Horde have an old Singer (sewing machine)? Or a repurposed one?
I have a grandmother's, manufactured before the 1920s. It's the sewing machine and table, and also has the bobbins and extra drive belts for the treadle. It can work. Grandmom (from Europe) could sew anything beautifully including draperies and fine coats for adults. My mother inherited it and made my prom gowns, her dress for (1st) my first marriage, etc. She, too, sewed beautifully when she could find the time & a place to layout, pin & cut patterns. (Four kids and a full time job, too.) I had home economics in high school and sewed sleeves backwards into a blouse and dress so that was about it for the sewing class. I have only one cousin on that side of the family who really sews well. She became employed by Singer purely by accident, and rose to executive level with the corporation. One night, a group of five of us got a little inebriated of which I was voted the least so I drove while three others sat on the trunk facing forward w feet behind those front seats. The SD cops weren't amused and pulled me over .....on a hill. I pushed in the clutch, brake slipped and I rolled back into the front of the cop car. They still weren't amused. Ever read horror stories about a homeowners heating oil tank busting and the subsequent hundreds of thousands of dollars they spend for cleanup?
Never tell anyone about an oil leak. You call your hvac plumber and guess what? He MUST report it or insist You report it or else he won't get involved. Posted by: Soothsayer I was shitting bricks when I sold the old house a few years ago. There was an old oil tank in the ground since the 50's, and hadn't been used since the early 70's when they ran gas lines. Well, no way could I sell the house with a tank in the ground, so I had somebody remove the tank. the first thing he did was test the soil around the tank. It came up clean, so we decided to to pull it. the soil here is pretty sandy, so it was well drained soil. The out side of the tank had only surface rust, no rot, as if it was in the ground for only a year, and it was a super thick gauge of steel. I dodged a bullet with that one. The inspector wanted the tank cut in half so he could inspect it. He took a look and slapped the sticker on it, and said yeah no problem here. If there was a soil problem I would have yanked it in darkness. Tank? what tank? lol Posted by: Berserker-Dragonheads Division at July 14, 2025 11:20 PM (snZF9) 155

Family member had a Bugeye Sprite. Was a very small, but fun car.
Posted by: scampydog at July 14, 2025 11:29 PM (41CYW) IIRC, the bugeye Sprite was its own model. When the MGB was introduced, they also brought out the MG Midget, using Sprite mechanicals, and made both Sprite and Midget models nearly identical, on the same platform. Car guys called them the "Spridget". About the only distinction was the nameplate. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at July 14, 2025 11:34 PM (piB20) 176
>>Mid-engine means low polar moment of inertia. Car is easy to maneuver. Downside might be that irregularities in the road, or strong crosswinds, could deflect it off course, making corrections necessary.
Front end was really light. Great road feel under good conditions but you felt it when you got on the highway and tramlining could be an issue. You had to drive that car but boy howdy was it fun. Posted by: JackStraw at July 14, 2025 11:35 PM (viF8m) 177

Years later, I am in St. Louis and looking for a car. I found a 72 MGB. Nice condition, decent price. So I put $200 down to hold it for the bank loan. I have a business trip the next week, so I tell the salesman that I'll call him from the road. I call him at lunch time. He says that there was no problem with the bank wanting to loan on the car but they could not sell the car to me.
I ask why and he is reluctant to tell me why. I finally drag the story out of him. Seems they left the car out on the lot and one of the other salesman gave the keys to a kid, probably a relative, for a test drive. Kid starts it up and starts revving it up and pops the clutch. PING!!! Two rods through the hood and a couple through the block. So, yeah, I really did not want a car that needed a new engine. Because you seem to feel that only your opinions matter. We get bombarded here daily by opinions from "influencers" that turn out to be wrong. And almost none of the people who post them ever stop for one second to look around at how incredibly different the country looks today from what it did 6 months ago or from what they predicted it would look like today after Harris won. She got crushed. The country and for that matter the world looks complety different and it's far past time to stop whining about what hasn't happened yet and start appreciating how far we've come in 6 months. >>>The active confrontation began in Trump’s first term. He arrived in Washington, D.C., expecting to be the boss of the executive branch, probably because that’s what the Constitution says in Article 2, Section 1. He quickly found out otherwise. Everything he wanted to change was declared to be off-limits. So far as he could tell, the whole of the city agreed that the job was entirely ceremonial.
That did not sit well with him. The tradition in the deep state of ignoring the president unless he annoyed them rubbed him wrong. He finally got fed up with the plots, schemes, and attempts to undermine presidential authority – which he saw as like unto a CEO, but no one else agreed – that he decided to run a test. He fired James Comey as head of the FBI. Washington freaked out. https://tinyurl.com/5ttzvpsm Posted by: Braenyard - some Absent Friends are more equal than others _ at July 15, 2025 01:48 AM (Kq8pV) 294
