Disney Pixar's Latest Bomb Elio Was Filled With Gay Themes and Messaging Before Executives Ordered Them Excised Plus: Marvel's New "Superheo" is a Black Teen Genius Girlboss and Sociopathic Criminal Who Literally Sells Her Soul to the Devil
BTW, the Hollywood Reporter's spin is that the movie wouldn't have bombed, and would have been a hit, if only the children's cartoon had released still containingall the in-your-face gay propaganda that its gay propaganda "creatives" had stuffed into it.
Because yes, you know that what the American public is clamoring for is "more gay propaganda for our too-young-to-know-what-sex-even-is children. Especially now. Especially when even "nice" normies have had so much of this crap they're now rudely saying ENOUGH.
Inside 'Elio's' "Catastrophic" Path: America Ferrera's Exit, Director Change and Erasure of Queer ThemesCreatives at Pixar who saw the original director's previous cut of 'Elio' tell THR about the movie's challenging production process: "'Elio' just [became] about totally nothing."
If a movie isn't about gay propaganda then it's "totally about nothing."
Got it.
Doesn't that mean the film, as originally made, had nothing in it except for gay propaganda
But no, they're saying that the original movie was nothing but the gay propaganda, so that the removal of that gay propaganda resulted in a film "totally about nothing."
Those who worked at Pixar while its latest film release, Elio, was in production were delighted by footage they saw roughly two years ago.
Oh that's right -- this stinker was in the can for years. Disney executives were probably just delaying because they didn't want to release yet another gay propaganda bomb, but also didn't want the PR headache from their gay "creatives" boohoo whinin' and cryin' to the leftwing media.
Among the moments cited as favorites by those at the animation studio at the time included a sequence in which the titular boy collected trash on the beach and turned it into homemade apparel that included a pink tank top; the movie's team would refer to Elio showing this off to a hermit crab as his "trash-ion show."
Is this Ru Paul for Kidz?
But if you bought a ticket to Elio and don't remember seeing this, it's not just that you chose the wrong time to refill your soda. According to multiple insiders who spoke to The Hollywood Reporter, Elio was initially portrayed as a queer-coded character, reflecting original director Adrian Molina's identity as an openly gay filmmaker. Other sources say that Molina did not intend the film to be a coming out story, as the character is 11. But either way, this characterization gradually faded away throughout the production process as Elio became more masculine following feedback from leadership. Gone were not only such direct examples of his passion for environmentalism and fashion, but also a scene in Elio's bedroom with pictures suggesting a male crush. Hints at the trash fashion remain in the released film, with the boy wearing a cape decorated with discarded cutlery and soda can tabs, although without any explanation for the unusual attire.
Elio's turbulent ride began well before its calamitous nosedive at the box office durin the June 20-22 corridor. Indeed, the summer of 2023 became a fateful one for the animated film about a lonely boy beamed into outer space by an intergalactic organization after being misidentified as the leader of Earth. The writing was first on the wall for the troubled production when the film from Molina, known as the co-director of Pixar's Oscar-winning 2017 hit Coco, conducted an early test screening in Arizona. Although viewers expressed how much they enjoyed the movie, they were also asked how many of them would see it in a theater, and not a single hand was raised, according to a source with knowledge of the event. This sounded alarm bells for studio brass.
It was around this same time that Molina screened his latest cut of the film to Pixar leadership. There are differing accounts of the exact feedback that the director received from Pixar boss Pete Docter when the lights went up, with rumors circulating in some of the studio's circles that Molina was hurt by the conversation. The part that is clear is that Molina exited the project soon after, and much of Elio was reworked under new co-directors Madeline Sharafian and Domee Shi.
Remember when adults of both sexes were expected to act professionally if they were members of a profession? Remember how they used to be expected to take criticism and direction gracefully?
No more. Now it's nothing but hysteria and tantrums at the lack of required Affirmation.
After a yearlong delay, the film arrived in theaters June 22 and bombed with just $20.8 million domestically, the lowest opening frame at the box office in Pixar's history.
"I was deeply saddened and aggrieved by the changes that were made," says former Pixar assistant editor Sarah Ligatich, who provided feedback during Elio production as a member of the company's internal LGBTQ group PixPRIDE. Although she praises Sharafian and Shi as filmmakers, Ligatich notes that a number of creatives working on the film stepped down after the directors shared their first cut of the movie. "The exodus of talent after that cut was really indicative of how unhappy a lot of people were that they had changed and destroyed this beautiful work." Another Pixar source disputes that people stepped down in response to Molina's departure.
Nobody cares about your endless f*cking Teen Goth Girl feelings, you f*cking basket-cases.
The changes to Elio were clear to one former Pixar artist who worked on the film and asked to remain anonymous: "It was pretty clear through the production of the first version of the film that [studio leaders] were constantly sanding down these moments in the film that alluded to Elio's sexuality of being queer."
...
"Suddenly, you remove this big, key piece, which is all about identity, and Elio just becomes about totally nothing," says the former Pixar artist.
...
Media reports have cited its production budget as $150 million, but former Pixar employees tell THR that the film cost far more than that. The artist who worked on the movie was not privy to the specific figure but estimates it was well north of $200 million, given that Molina's version was nearly complete, which she says makes the "catastrophic box office" feel worse....
The Elio production resulted in fraught feelings for those with ties to Pixar who have come to question whether the company intends to prioritize diversity. Docter sparked debate when he noted in a 2024 interview that the studio should make the "most relatable films" possible, which was perceived as advocating for a shift away from underrepresented characters and voices.
...
In the meantime, the pain of the Elio process still stings for the creatives who saw the movie's trajectory become something of a cautionary tale. "I'd love to ask Pete and the other Disney executives whether or not they thought the rewrite was worth it," says the artist. "Would they have lost this much money if they simply let Adrian tell his story?"
When you're spending over $200 million of other people's money, you don't get to tell "your story," especially if your story is all about niche themes that resonate only with 3% of the audience plus their "allies."
Again: Where did professionalism go? That is a huge topic that people need to discuss. Gone are the days where a professional could be expected to put aside his personal bullshit and dispassionately deliver services to a client. Now it's all about "bringing your whole self to work," and demanding that a mere job provide you with the personal satisfaction and fulfillment that only family, friends, and church can provide.
Unprofessional "professionals" are all bleating, Why doesn't the public trust us any longer?
Well, it's because you exclusively serve yourselves.
Meanwhile, Disney's other bomb factory Marvel has produced what sounds like the most morally repugnant kid's show in history, one in which the supposed "superhero" main character goes on a crime spree of armed theft and extorting millionaires into signing over their companies to the crime ring. In one case, her fellow criminals shoot and murder mere security guards.
Under the law, this makes her guilty of felony murder. When you and a group all go out to commit a crime, each member of the gang is legally responsible for any of the murders which ensue, given that everyone knows that a crime may result in killing people.
But this "superhero," "Riri" Williams, remains absolutely certain in her own entitlement and her unshakable belief that the world owes her fame and wealth and she is justified in committing any crime necessary to achieve these selfish goals.
ThatParkPlace.com on the first half of the six-episode "season:"
There really isn't a way to review Ironheart outside of just calling it what it is: bad.
It's a bad show. It's bad on every level. From the lazy bad cinematography to the lackluster bad graphics, bad wooden performances, and bad writing, Ironheart is the culmination of everything that's gone wrong with Marvel television. It's not just a misfire--it's a final nail.
If Echo was lifeless and Secret Invasion was dull, Ironheart is downright insufferable.
The show feels like the endgame of the M-SHE-U, where every creative decision revolves around identity first, and storytelling last--if at all. There's no subtlety, no nuance, no curiosity about heroism or conflict. Instead, what we get is a self-righteous character surrounded by a parade of unlikable people delivering one smug lecture after another.
...
Riri Williams is not just unrelatable--she's unlikable. She's arrogant, cold, and completely lacking in empathy. She constantly reminds the audience that she doesn't want to be a hero, has no moral obligation to anyone, and is building her suits and AI "because I can."
That's not strength--that's narcissism. Her every action is self-serving, yet the show insists we root for her because of her identity and not her choices. They try to dress it up in a narrative about her dead stepfather but it just rings hollow.
By the end of episode three, Riri commits a stone cold murder.
There's no ambiguity.
She has the ability to save someone--easily--and instead she watches him die and then agonizes over that and the fact that she left a crucial piece of tech behind at a crime scene.
This is our protagonist...
Well, not just the protagonists. Lots of movies have criminal protagonists (but usually those criminal heroes show much more regard for human life than this entitled sociopath does).
She's supposed to be a hero.
And not just a hero, a superhero.
Some thought that Riri Williams might learn from her cold-bloodedly murderous ways and go through some kind of growth and personal redemption in the second half.
Nope!
Riri's criminal "friends" turn on her--and we're supposed to feel bad. But this is just karma on a platter. She lied, manipulated, used people, and now the consequences have arrived. Characters tell her flat-out that she's selfish and wrong, but Riri never truly owns it. She doesn't evolve. She doesn't reflect. She simply powers through with the same arrogant attitude, insisting she's in the right.
Then comes a baffling action sequence where these gang members--who previously took down grown men with ease--get beaten by Riri without her armor. Not only does she magically win, but she scores multiple kill shots... and no one dies or even gets hurt. Slug, one of the thugs, literally survives a vehicle crash that should have turned anyone into pavement paste. But Slug just climbs out without a scratch, shrugs it off, and walks away. Real stakes? Real danger? Forget it.
How can they up the stakes after Riri has already committed a felony crime spree and actually murdered an innocent guard?
Would you believe... Marvel's version of the devil, Mephisto, appears and offers to buy Riri's soul?
And she... accepts Satan's bargain?
And then... the grand finale of this Ironheart finale review. Mephisto appears. Yes, Sacha Baron Cohen makes his long-awaited debut as the literal devil. And what does Riri do? Does she fight him? Does she rise up to battle the ultimate evil and finally become a hero?
Nah.
She sells her soul to him. Seriously.
No big battle. No showdown. Just a straight-up soul trade to bring back her dead best friend, Natalie.
...
And that's how it ends. No resolution. No meaning. No point.
I think there is a point, but not one the "creatives" here would admit to.
So that's how the show ends. It's supposed to be a cliffhanger. It's not, because they'll never make another Ironheart episode. She ends the show as a murderer damned to hell not just by her callous murder but by literally selling her soul to the devil.
Yay, minority and female empowerment...?
This is another piece of "entertainment" that Disney has had in the can for years but has been waiting for the right moment to release it. Like when you hold in a fart in church until they come by with the donations plate and you let it out then to blame it on the altar boy.
I heard someone remark that this show is like what a racist KKK grand cyclops would create to attack black people. It thinks it's "empowering" black youth. How? By telling them to be criminals and to murder people without a second thought?
Oh, and of course the show stars a transgender.

This is another one of those Chesteron fences.

Now that we not only have openly gay film directors but celebrate them the truth comes out that of course a gay director will sexualize a children's movie...because that's what a gay director does.

Ironheart is not bad because its woke or has a fruity drag queen. Its not even bad because it is racist as hell against white people.
Its bad because its so horribly written and directed. The main character is utterly without any redeeming or likable qualities. She literally does nothing heroic in the entire show, and does every single thing simply to enrich and benefit herself. She is a literal criminal using her special abilities to steal and extort. She leaves a man to die on purpose. She watches multiple security guards horribly wounded and killed and cares nothing. She literally sells her soul LITERALLY (as in signs a contract) to marvel's version of the devil.
Its not impossible that the writers intended for her to realize her plight and have a redemption arc in the second season of the show but... there won't be another season, that is not how you write a show (the entire season she's evil, not just mistaken, confused, mislead but DELIBERATELY EVIL), and there's no arc here. Its a flat downward ramp to worse and worse.
46But this 'superhero,' 'Riri' Williams, remains absolutely certain in her own entitlement and her unshakable belief that the world owes her fame and wealth and she is justified in committing any crime necessary to achieve these selfish goals.

Honestly, it sounds like they have made her the next Thanos...I might watch it if I knew they had relegated her to that supervillain role. Selling her soul to the devil sounds like exactly where she will belong, and what a supervillain would do so he/she could stay on top of their villainy for just that much longer...since they have no faith and no desire to ever repent...
If they really embraced that - "she's an evil b&tch and this was her path to true and utter villainy/depravery" - that's kinda interesting tv, the way that the Joker movie was (and no, I haven't watched Joker 2 where they tried to erase that)...

Riri Williams, Ironheart, constantly bitches about how she's being held down and needs money. But she's been handed everything her entire life and upheld and promoted and praised by literally everyone. Tony Stark personally gave her (not MIT, for some reason) a grant to work on tech and she spent the whole time grifting to make money.
She invents several items just out of the blue casually that would be worth hundreds of billions of dollars like a holographic fully aware AI and a force field generator, and doesn't try to sell or market them or present them to any company. She is irrational, contradictory, and the plot makes no sense.
The entire storyline is about this dude who is fixated with getting people to sign contracts, leading a criminal group of odd looking non white folx to extort the rich, forcing them to sign a contract to put them all on the payroll. Putting aside how this would not stand a millisecond in court (coercion negates any contract), how are they gonna pay our criminals WITHOUT HAVING ALL THEIR BANKING AND PERSONAL INFORMATION?

>>Again: Where did professionalism go? That is a huge topic that people need to discuss.
I think that a lot of this forms in children. In the past, most kids were a small part of a large family. More siblings and also more cousins, etc. They learned that the world is not all about them.
When families got smaller, the kids became the focus and so they started growing up thinking the world was there to serve them. This also explains why many adults see kids as an accoutrement to their lives and many don't even have kids.
That is one problem, but in concert there is the government stepping in and trying to compensate people for God's choices -- everyone is now a "victim" who needs to be treated special instead a small cog in something much greater than themselves and if htey have a disability or bad luck, well that is their problem.
(I am not saying this too clearly, but there is truth in these words.)

Comic books are inherently goofy in a lot of ways, and MCU often has dumb stuff but this is like an infinitely large black hole of stupid that gets logarithmically dumber the deeper you go. Its an onion with unending layers of stupider. Ironheart is absolutely idiotic.
And to make matters worse, everyone is unattractive in the show. Like, deliberately so. Riri was at least cute in the comics even as she was a reprehensible person but this actress is a Waffle House 5. She looks even uglier in the suit, it emphasizes all her worst features making her look 25 years older. Its like they went out of their way to find every possible way to make this thing suck as hard as possible.
No wonder they sat on it for years and tried to slip it out unnoticed.

As far as I can tell from watching Disparu's scathing commentary on the first three episodes of Ironheart, her "plan" is to 1) steal a bunch of money so that she can finish her suit and 2) show the world that she's a better engineer than Tony Stark.
Neither of those two motivations come anywhere near to heroism.
In fact, they are textbook motivations for supervillains. The irony is lost on the creators of this dreck.

One thing you have to realize about Chandler was that he was very tied into then-current language and tropes. It was something that worked very good in the pulps to give more gritty reality to it, and it was also something that Hammett did.
The downside is that the past is a different language today. A lot of what was taken as current then is impenetrable now, without enough understanding of the time.

Iger is running out of runway and Disney's P/E ratio is still too high for a mature infotainment conglomerate beginning to show signs of severe wear at 25 or so. The downside is more likely than upside for Disney until they disaggregate.
Conglomerates always suck in the long run for shareholders and end up have to spin off dying properties sooner or later to slim down. Iger delaying that means that when the divestiture occurs, billions more by stockholders will be lost.

It's not that bad. It's actually a very sweet story of an orphaned boy who's hurt and shutting himself off from people. I read that galactic association of aliens as him finding a community, not a commune, and reconnecting when he makes a friend there.
I smiled at the voiceover from Carl Sagan in one scene. Yeah, he was a liberal squish, but his show was a fond memory of my youth.

Speaking of Buffy, that show was kind of a benchmark for when the entertainment industry went bonkers.
It fit in with the late 90s/early 00s more reserved liberalism but then in season 6 they literally went gay and it was just dumber and dumber after that.

Elio is about a lonely boy who meets aliens. Yawn...
The new Lilo and Stitch live action film is about a lonely girl that meets aliens. Did we need a live action remake of it? No. But the remake is doing gangbusters.
Why? No woke, while being a surprisingly realistic, warts and all look at broken families and a non-stereotypical look at Hawaii. And a super cute and funny alien.
Parents and kids love stories like ET and Lilo and Stitch. Part of that is no one is grooming their kids during those films.

Wow; I saw the trailer for Elio. I wouldn’t go see it because I don’t have young kids, but the trailer didnt look that bad.
As far as “Iron heart” I don’t know who that actress is but she’s unattractive, Sacha Baron Cohen has been a leftist bore for years and if I wanted to see something about someone selling their soul to the devil I’d go see “ Dr. Faustus”.

253 Skyline was not a great SF movie, but the FX were fine and it cost $10-20M to make.
Now with Bidenflation is would be something like 2X that, but there is no reason that making even an SF blockbuster should cost more then $50M.
Posted by: 18-1 at July 02, 2025 04:47 PM (t0Rmr)
It's easy to make a sci-fi film for $10-20M or so when you're using the same FX firm as a big Hollywood production and you charge a big chunk of your FX to the studio film. At least, if you believe Sony's allegations.

"Elio" ranks as one of the lesser Pixars because it doesn't work on many levels like most of their movies, like for example "The Incredibles", where adults can identify with the weary wage slave parents and kids have the youngsters trying to fit in with the normies at school. "Elio" is more oriented to a younger audience.

Right, I pointed this out a while back and was mocked for it, but... while Deadpool and Wolverine was technically released by Disney, they had very little control over what went INTO the movie. Basically they let Ryan Reynolds do his mojo with almost not interference if any.
So while it was a Disney movie? It wasn't a Disney movie. They didn't get their MCU stank all over it.

This idiotic talking point has been all over X for the past several hours and it's driving me nuts. First, it's around 4,000 H1B visas, not 7,000. Second, MSFT is laying off sales and advertising people. That's not who they're hiring through H1Bs. They use H1B to get developers and product owners.
It's valid to argue MSFT should be hiring local developers, but juxtaposing 9K sales and advertising layoffs with 4K developer new hires is stupid.

Would they have lost this much money if they simply let Adrian tell his story?
------
Perfectly reasonable question.
It's a Disney movie. If the producer tells the director "look, ya gotta cut the fag shit, you queer," then they've dropped the sucker back from 90 minutes to 15 minutes. That's a lot of film on the cutting room floor, a complete re-write and a million hours of rendering time to recreate your homosexual romp through children's psychosocial development as something only slightly less Satanic.
You're better off just serving up the original infernal product The massive additional capital outlay only regains the nine viewers who don't already know about your Rodent King's not-so-secret gay agenda.
Or, you can just run a much smaller loss by attracting the worst element of American society - the "adult" Disney fan - to sit through your 90 minute, antiseptically corporate celebration of pederasty, so they can experience their only ersatz emotion til the next slop sluices through the trough.

298 Riri Williams is not just unrelatable--she's unlikable.

Disney changes its stories all the time. It's part of the process. In Tangled, Lasseter realized they needed boy appeal, so he made them add Flynn Rider as a character and make it more fun. Everything clicked.
Frozen famously swapped Elsa into a heroine instead of the villain in the 11th hour, and made it about the bond of sisters. Everything clicked, it made a bazillion dollars.
Professionals in animation can handle these changes. They are in a business where that's the job. If you can't pivot when things aren't working and made huge changes, find another business.

In a time when we can’t make a movie in Hollywood about the invasion of illegals into our country, these movies about people who are sort of like us, but really not, “people” who mess the whole country up and live off the real people: it resonates because it talks about the thing, in an exaggerated way, that’s really happening to us, only you’re not supposed to talk about it!

Probably? Disneyland is pretty small, they have a lot less stuff in it.
The reason zombie apocalypse movies resonate is because they are invasion movies!
See the way some of you all feel about superhero stuff? I feel about zombie stuff. Its idiotic and insultingly bad. Zombies are one of the weakest, worst undead, they are ridiculously easy to defeat and avoid. The only way anyone can make them a serious threat is to either make the people incredibly stupid, isolate them in a single building in a graveyard, or change them so that they aren't zombies any longer. Its the dumbest genre in fiction.
But you're right about invasions. We cannot have people invade or its something stupid like the remake of Red Dawn. Can't be the Russians or Chinese, its gotta be like the Albanians, someone who isn't going to sue or has too small a population to care.

I admit that I have an issue with musical numbers that are set as "staged" numbers within the musical itself -- e.g., nightclub numbers, etc. Most musicals seem to include those types of numbers, though.
The best musicals are precisely those that do have people just breaking out in song, and only that -- because they reveal what the characters are thinking, and thus add psychologial depth and advance the plot

For most of them, the 8 is for a 8 show series, about an hour per show. Now for Mauler, his famed Star War sequels review (for one of them) were about 13 hours and his review of the first one likely will never be completed. His panel shows are 10+ and are not really supposed to be done in one sitting.
Everyone assumes people today have no attention span, but the growth of the alt-reviewers shows that people will adjust to you if you are good enough.

Read a few issues of whatever Ironman comic started off IronHeart. Horrifically bad but I'm impressed that the TV show is even worse.

They're all about "sanding down".
Sanding down girls' boobs and boys' penises.

The marvel crapfest reminds me of the show on now about a British hedgefund that they keep promoting all over (yet i still can't care to remember the name)
The lead is a black girl who breaks every rule and does what she wants because she's actually smarter than all those old dudes in the company. But she constantly f's up, and then cries about it or does something that saves her ass but hurts someone who spent the whole show helping her. And it's not doing that to show she has flaws, because she never learns from it and that never plays in to the idea she's ruthless. Then we're supposed to always feel bad for her. And none of this is done ironically or tongue in cheek. It's just shitty writing that they hope they can make up for with having the other female lead be naked half the time.

This Riri was introduced in Black Panther 2 as a super-genius.
However, the writers couldn't get that right.
They tried to demonstrate her genius because of the classes she took at MIT, but they listed differential equations, which a lot of MIT students take in high school.
