Update: CBS Lies About the Settlement
CBS continues insisting it will never apologize.
But it has agreed to a key demand Trump made: that they will always release a full transcript of every interview with a presidential candidate. I wish they could have gotten them to agree to release the full video of an interview, and extended this to all interviews. But this will limit CBS's ability to butcher interviews to either boost or slander their presidential candidate interview subjects.Paramount will settle President Trump's lawsuit over a "60 Minutes" interview with Kamala Harris for $16 million, the company announced late Tuesday. CBS News' parent company worked with a mediator to resolve the lawsuit. Under the agreement, $16 million will be allocated to Mr. Trump's future presidential library and the plaintiffs' fees and costs. Neither Mr. Trump nor his co-plantiff, Texas Rep. Ronny Jackson, will be directly paid as part of the settlement. The settlement did not include an apology. Paramount also agreed that "60 Minutes" will release transcripts of interviews with presidential candidates in the future, "subject to redactions as required for legal or national security concerns," the statement said.This report is from the guilty party themselves, CBS. The lawsuit was filed in Amarillo, Texas, a portion of a federal district court where the sole judge is a 2019 Trump appointee, and it was based on a state consumer protection law that is intended to prevent advertisers from misleading the public about a product being sold. I don't think it has to be as binary as costing the election. If one business were to libel another when competing for a contract there'd still seem to be grounds for a lawsuit even if they lost.

I heard last night that the requirement to release full transcripts is called the Trump rule inside of CBS/ Paramount. That is delicious and a reminder of what can happen when the basic principles of fair journalism are perverted into being an advocate for a political party. $16 million was a bargain settlement for CBS/Paramount for doing their part to rig a presidential election.

CBS' big mistake was not admitting the Harris interview had been edited. IIRC they never claimed they did until bits leaked out. Then they fought releasing the transcripts. Then they fought releasing the unedited video.
I might be wrong, but if you say up front that a video has been edited for (insert reason here) you've, kinda' - sorta' shielded yourself from this sort of shit.

I have no particular reason to not think Weinstein is guilty. But I get where some of the skepticism comes from. It goes both ways in Hollywood: there are powerful people abusing others, but there are plenty of people willing to put out for career advancement too. Some people just view sex that transactionally. There were plenty of women associated with Weinstein who had nothing whatsoever to say, fair or foul, about the man. A lot of people (not altogether unreasonably) infer they fall on the transactionally minded side of the ledger.

Usually takes months if not years.

This is as legitimate and honest just as two of the families are very angry and wanted him to go to trial and get the death penalty. As lawyers said last night, spending life in prison is very different than living on death row facing endless appeals that could go on for years.
A good question asked last night was why does Idaho have the death penalty if they are not going to use it for the 'worse of the worse'. A lot of anger leveled at the DA's office.

Allred looks good on paper, but he just lost a Senate race to Ted Cruz by a 53% to 45% margin, and there's no reason to believe he'd get any more than that on another go round. In fact if it's Paxton, he is likely to be more popular with Texas voters than Cruz is.

Canned foods have a long shelf life but due to societal changes, more people are looking for fresh, flash frozen, and prepackaged meals. Fewer people cooking nowadays and many of those that do dislike the esthetics, taste, etc. of canned goods compared with fresh. Campbell Soup is having similar problems.

Harvey did the crime beyond a reasonable doubt (and probably others) to two juries and the judge and will spend most of the rest of his life behind bars.

I think Allred's announcement is great, because I think it probably keeps Beato out of the race. Allred looks good on paper, but he just lost a Senate race to Ted Cruz by a 53% to 45% margin, and there's no reason to believe he'd get any more than that on another go round.
