124 So the woman has red hair...likely not that common in Venice with its connections in Italy, the Adriatic, Greece, and the Middle East

Akshually...

Ancient Romans achieved blond hair through a variety of methods, including using natural lightening agents and even applying gold dust for a shimmering effect. Blond hair was seen as a symbol of youth and beauty, so both men and women sought ways to lighten their hair.
Here's a more detailed look at the techniques:
Natural Lightening:

Ash and Sun:
A mixture of goat fat and ashes, or ashes from burnt wood, nuts, or plants, was applied to the hair and then exposed to the sun to lighten the hair.

Vinegar and Lemon Juice:
A concoction of vinegar and lemon juice was also used as a lightening agent.
Saffron:
This spice was used to create golden hues, and wealthy Romans might even sprinkle gold dust into their hair for a shimmering effect.
Other Natural Ingredients:
Crushed yellow flower petals, pollen, or even berries were sometimes used

139 Had to look this one up. Meissonier usually has realistic, detailed paintings. The figures here are in that vein. But when you embiggen it the background and foreground parts, which looked true to life, are much looser reminding me of Monet. Interesting when that happens. I've been at galleries looking at a painting that from a distance looks almost like a photograph but as you get closer the brush work is revealed. It doesn't diminish my enjoyment, it adds to my admiration for the artist's talent and technique.

Artist: Jean-Louis-Ernest Meissonier.
Date: 1879.

Style: Realistic and detailed, reminiscent of 17th and 18th-century Dutch and Flemish genre painting.
Subject: Two well-to-do Venetians on a staircase observing something below.
Artist's Background: Meissonier was a highly successful French artist, renowned for his meticulous attention to detail and historical accuracy in his paintings.

And that’s the scary part for everyone. Because if you can pinpoint a motive you can feel safe thinking well he did it for x reason. If we look for x we can prevent this again. But there’s no x reason most of the time. It’s random and can’t be prevented.

To be fair, having watched MANY an episode with my young (at the time) children, it's actually a pretty good show, and not full of woke indoctrination, which is refreshing. There's even a great episode called "The Cutie Map - Part 1" which introduces a new character running a "utopian" village where all are equal, all the citizens give up their special marks and abilities, and they're miserable. A communist village portrayed as evil, and ultimately they're liberated lol.

There’s a scene in a science fiction story where a time travel cop comes to deport some illegal time aliens from our present day (the cop is from the future, too). Jefferson was bored as VP and did it as a means to pass the time away. He was never a really good legislator. He could write flashy works of brilliance but was never a plodder required to be an excellent legislator.

Adams, who was technically far better as a lawmaker than executive (see his ghostwritten Mass Constitution as an example), but as first VP was too concerned with trying to run the chamber with senators that did not want him to do so.

The whole concern of Adam's in the Senate regarding what Adams thought the title of the VP should be there is hysterically funny.

278 This is a beautiful composition, not just in line, but in use of colors. The diagonal of the staircase points inwards to the principals in counter-action to where they're looking. The red rug (red being the most "interesting" color) also points up to them and both figures are bracketed by more red on the walls behind them. Blues on the walls also pick up the blue hose the man's wearing, which would otherwise rivet our attention as being a singular color. The man's black velvet hat is also strategic, once again pulling our eye deep into the picture plane and straight to where the action is happening -- the principal's faces. Me like!

The reality is there are a ton of people like him out there. Could be your neighbor. People who are fucked up in the head and will one day wake up and think I want to go kill a bunch of people. No reason, no motive other that he had that thought.

And that’s the scary part for everyone. Because if you can pinpoint a motive you can feel safe thinking well he did it for x reason. If we look for x we can prevent this again. But there’s no x reason most of the time. It’s random and can’t be prevented.

332 An Iran-linked cyberattack group that hacked President Trump's 2024 campaign is threatening to release another trove of emails it has stolen from his associates, including White House chief of staff Susie Wiles and Roger Stone.

Watch old British TV series for a 30 minute to 1 hour show. Back and sometimes legs/arms, starts hurting after that. So I rarely have the focus necessary on watching the movie. Like a shark, I have to keep moving periodically in order to keep from stiffening up.

No such problem getting up reading something as you don't miss key moments. Although I rarely read any fiction nowadays.

The essence of modern French cooking came from France’s attempts to conquer northern Italy in the first half of the 1500s. The French didn’t stay in Italy, but they did bring back a lot of recipes. And northern Italians are really Germans, you can say Frenchmen learned how to cook from Germans!

Crohns apparently is similar to autoimmune conditions so I can see where a drug could cause stiffening of the ligaments and surround muscular tissues.

FWIW, certain antibiotics do it like K-Flex (mild usually) and Levaquin (much worse so now 'black' labeled ) so you have the risk of tearing and straining ligaments well after use of them.

In fact, what if we just said "Nah" and then asserted that there won't be any continuing resolutions either. Let's just stop funding anything other than what the law makes clear continue on without any votes.

Modern life is turning this joke on its head, as the British police are now fascist, the Italian administrators are doing a passable job these days (and Meloni is an adept politician), and British restaurants are in some cases truly excellent. We just spent a little time in London over two recent trips and we loved the places we ate.

The Swiss are still the Swiss, and the Germans might be becoming German again.

You want expensive? Hire someone who professionally makes costumes for the S.F. opera to make you a bespoke outfit circa 1750. (Even after designing it myself and getting the material, it was still some coin.) If (when?) I drop a couple inches, I could still fit into it. 19th c. men's isn't so expensive compared to today; just a little more fabric though tying cravats all fancy-like is a pain (and there were no clip-ons).

People under 30
How to get or stay on a parent’s plan
If a parent’s health insurance plan covers dependents, you usually can be added to their plan and stay on it until you turn 26.

Further, some state laws.
While the ACA sets the federal standard at age 26, some states have extended dependent coverage beyond this age. For instance, Pennsylvania allows children to stay on their parents' plan until age 30 if they are unmarried, have no dependents, and are residents or full-time students. Florida also allows coverage until age 30 under certain conditions, including student status.

Most of the negotiations are an inside game among the GOP right now in Congress and Trump and depend on dynamics that are simply not reported very well by our media. Budget bills are where the Price is Right for senators and representatives to sell their votes come in and that is simply something nauseating about the whole budgetary process. However, this is endemic to every single legislative system that is 'democratic' but less problematic in a first past the post parliamentary system due to the powers of the PM and Cabinet.
