Operation Midnight Hammer is officially in the books. Let's see what else is tucked away in the archives. Some amusing military operation names. Operation Frequent Wind. And more. Operation Frequent Wind was the 1975 evacuation of Americans and Vietnamese citizens from Saigon before it fell. So we’ve established this was a pretty big deal and our side comes up with “Operation Frequent Wind” for a name. Leave it to a bunch of military guys to make a fart joke around one of the most visible missions in history. There are a fair amount of thoughts around: What the hell is the DOJ spending their time doing? The Tuesday ONT is here for you. Here is the link to their press release page. Searchable by date and keyword. Some interesting reading. Life Skills - Rites of Passage: Polishing shoes - dead art? Walk in heels (only those that can define what a woman is). Properly pressing a shirt? Dressing appropriately for any occasion? Change a tire? Apply nail polish? How to tie a tie? Share some life skills - rites of passage in the comments. Had the opportunity to have an incidental learning session with a young man recently on how to properly tie a tie. I prefer the 1/2 Windsor but the military knot and full Windsor have their time and place. My mother actually taught me how to tie a tie. Pretty much every imaginable knot at this link. Never learned how to tie the bow tie - they do make it looks sexy in the movies when a woman ties it on a man. High heels seem like a torture device. I suspect there is value - on those occasions when they must be worn, in knowing how to operate those creatures. Is there a song or something? Heal, toe, short step, short step. Don't take long strides in your heels. As tempting as it can be to strut your stuff, you've got to learn how to walk before you can run. Take small steps by planting your heel firmly on the ground. Roll through the ball of your foot, push off with your toes, and keep your strides controlled and short. Avoid overextending your legs. Focus on maintaining a steady pace and distributing your weight evenly. Take your time to adjust to the height and feel of the heels, gradually increasing your stride length as you gain comfort and support. Not what you expect it to be.
Large U.S. global banks can expect as much as $6 trillion in additional balance sheet capacity and billions in freed up capital under a Federal Reserve plan to relax leverage rules, Wall Street brokerages estimated Thursday. The U.S. Fed unveiled a proposal on Wednesday that would overhaul how much capital large global banks must hold against relatively low-risk assets, as part of a bid to boost participation in U.S. Treasury markets. Here is a deeper dive. The relationship between the Treasury market and leverage ratios, and the ESLR in particular, is intuitive: Since a leverage ratio requires the same amount of capital for every asset with the same nominal value, it incentivizes banks to move away from low-risk assets like Treasuries and toward higher-risk, higher-yielding assets. Risk-weighted capital requirements incentivize banks in the opposite direction-toward lower-risk assets. But when the minimum required leverage ratio is high enough, it can dominate bank decisions on how to allocate capital among asset classes and activities. This effect is likely to be especially pronounced for banks with relatively higher amounts of trading activity-both because Treasuries are the most traded asset in the world and because of their use as collateral in repo transactions. Before the ESLR was adopted in 2013, Federal Reserve officials (including me) discussed internally whether the new requirement of a 5% SLR for G-SIBs might interfere with monetary policy implementation or the smooth functioning of the Treasury market. Given expected levels of Treasury debt and reserves, they did not anticipate a problem. But many, both inside and outside the Fed, recognized that the ESLR might in some future circumstances adversely affect the Treasury market, especially during a period in which hedge funds and other institutions holding Treasuries needed to monetize them to obtain liquidity. Banks approaching their minimum leverage ratio would not be able to take more Treasuries onto their balance sheets. One of those silly songs that has hung in there. Technically, none below are wrong - all will be consumed. However, let's not pretend there isn't a hierarchy of proper "doneness." Prepare for opinions. Loud ones. Friendships may be tested. Some of you will get this wrong - the correct response is somewhere between 1.5 and 2. Scampywife insists that 6 is the correct carbon state of bacon.

I would always tell my wife, "I need to go work on a well" (oil or gas well), when I knew I would have to be out of town for the next few days.
After hearing this dozens of times, my 6 y.o. daughter said she wanted to go work on a well, so I actually did "take your daughter to work" day in the oil patch. I had four different sub-contractors on this location with at least five semi-trucks plus numerous pickup trucks - guys running all over the place setting up equipment, hammering on the wellhead, etc. I finally crawl into the logging truck with her and shut the door behind us to be able to speak to the engineer. As soon as it was quiet, she says, "I thought you were going to go work on a well, but you are the only person here NOT working!" The logging engineer fell out of his seat he was laughing so hard. He then told the story at least five more times that day (that I know of). He would still remind me of that observation by my daughter ten years later. I kind of wish I had the video of the mom referring to the clowns at work to show him on my phone at the time! Posted by: Pillage Idiot at July 01, 2025 10:21 PM (HlyYF) 58

"Large U.S. global banks can expect as much as $6 trillion in additional balance sheet capacity and billions in freed up capital under a Federal Reserve plan to relax leverage rules, Wall Street brokerages estimated Thursday."
I don't have a lot of comprehension on this subject, but the smart guys I read think this policy is dangerous, maybe criminal. But that is the plan ... keep ramping up the markets to infinity, mo' money, mo' money. Inflation is maybe "hiding" in markets? idk, but so many have trusted their life savings in those stocks that Always Go Up, But Every Dip. Should stocks really be valued at 40PE, or is that like that tulip bulb mania? Like the housing market crash of 2008, what if stocks don't keep ramping up forever? But how else do we escape our infinite debt debacle? idk ... smart guys think this is dangerous, or maybe criminal. Trump says he will only approve of a next fed chair that will lower rates ... Keep the Easy Money flowing, till it all collapses? or that is my short, not precise, version of the current debt insanity. Posted by: illiniwek at July 01, 2025 10:38 PM (vbXSk) 101
The U.S. Fed unveiled a proposal on Wednesday that would overhaul how much capital large global banks must hold against relatively low-risk assets, as part of a bid to boost participation in U.S. Treasury markets.
The European Central banks are talking about forcing banks and investors into taking Euro central bank bills for investments and backing deposits. Which are about as stable as you can guess The US has several possible futures, one is to issue stablecoions backed by Treasuries, making the main international instrument based on US Treasuries, boosting demand, another is revalue the gold in the gold reserves to a realistic level which will automatically deleverage US Debt quite a bit. That means the dollar will stop being over valued at $42.222 a troy ounce and be overvalued at $3K per troy ounce. 1 Yay, International Joke Day ONT! Also Canada Day. Not sure if that's just coincidence or not. Posted by: Blanco Basura - Z28.310 at July 01, 2025 10:00 PM (lUFok) In honor of the occasion: I don't live too far from the zoo, which I am only telling you because it is actually germaine to the story, which, at its base, is about an escaped gorilla that showed up in the aspen tree in my back yard, and it would stretch credibility a bit too much if there were no zoo in the proximity. So, I woke up one morning, and heard on the radio that Kimbu, the lowland gorilla had somehow escaped from the local zoo. I didn't really think much of it, until I happened to glance out my back window to see a large, fur-covered figure sitting a few branches up in the aspen. Immediately worrying about my property values and only a little bit about how my mortgage effects my bank's leverage ratio, I called the zoo to politely request they retrieve their wandering resident. About fifteen minutes later, a panel truck shows up at my door, and an unexpectedly diminutive fellow chomping on a cigar is knocking on my door. "Is you da guy dat reported a gorilla in your aspen?" "Yes, I am." (See next post) Posted by: tankdemon at July 01, 2025 10:40 PM (zyYVb) Posted by: jim (in Kalifornia) at July 01, 2025 10:41 PM (ynpvh) 107
"I'm Mr. Travers, Certified Animal Recovery Specialist. Can you show me where Kimbu is now?"
I showed the gentleman where the gorilla had gotten itself, and he he assured me things were all under control. He went back to the panel van, grabbed a ladder, a net, and brought out the biggest, most ferocious looking mastiff I had ever laid eyes on. He also had a shotgun. "Sir," he explained to me, "Here is what is about to happen- I am going to climate the Lauder, and start shaking the branch Kimbu is sitting on. Kimbu will lose balance and fall to the ground. When thst happens, ol' Squeeky there is going to immediately bite his genitals, rendering him incapacitated until I am able to get the netting around him and subdue him." "Seems a bit Rube Goldberg to me, but your Certified. I only have one question; what's the shotgun for" "I want you to keep that shotgun ready," he said. "If something goes wrong and I'm the one who falls out of the tree, you need to shoot that gol-darned dog." Posted by: tankdemon at July 01, 2025 10:41 PM (zyYVb) 108

Bobby Bonilla. In 1991 I did Rotisserie League baseball for the first time. I joined an established league. I was hopeless at bidding for players. I got Bobby Bonilla, who no one else really wanted. He had a terrific season at the plate. I also got Dennis Martinez, Expos starting pitcher, cheap. Had a career low ERA, career best number of shutouts including a perfect game. I ended up with several other players and pitchers who unexpectedly did above their career averages. My pitching staff was best in our league. I finished third in a 10 team league, and in the money. Everyone hated me.

In light of RFKs interview with Tucker, it's time for the right to have their come to Jesus moment on vaccines and autism.
Yes, crazy leftists were loud about vaccines, and so you instinctively pushed it away as nutbaggery. But the curtain is being pulled back and the pernicious individuals that f*cked with American health are being revealed. If the right is, indeed, the party of rational thinkers that are open to diversity of thought, it's important to embrace this information and adjust your views in light of new information. Given the obvious failure and openly criminal behavior of the CoVID vaxx, as mentioned by ace in his post on its effect on fertility, it's time to begin to revisit the orthodoxy of vaccines in general and open your minds to the possibility you were likely lied to about their deleterious effects. Vegetarianism is popular within Seventh-day Adventism because we value personal health and believe that a vegetarian diet is a good way to care for our bodies, maintain wellness, and honor God (1 Corinthians 6:20; 10:31; Romans 12:1-2). A pleasant evening to all.
Bacon: 2, maybe 2 1/2. Life skill: driving a manual transmission (thanks for the reminder, pikkumatti!) with my first car (a Honda Civic) after getting my driver's license at 16. My very patient dad rode with me, having me practice on a quiet country road with a steep grade. I learned pretty fast after that first day of embarrassing fits and starts and kills and miscellany. Earlier life skill: babysitting for the first time with no adult around. Girl I'd never met was 5 and blind. She had a seizure while in my care -- had not had one since about age 1.5, and the parents hadn't thought to mention that. No 911 in those days, so I called my mom, just up the road. The seizure was over by the time she arrived. Mom or I, can't remember now, then called the restaurant where the girl's parents had gone out to eat. (No cell phones, either, in those days.) Whew. Gawd, I hate that Chrlie Rich song. I worked the summer of '74, out of high school, at a fancy steak house/supper club. I was a busboy with my little jacket and bow tie and all. Anyway, they had a house band. I heard that song at least once a set (3 or 4 times), every night I worked.

Old-school skills I have:
Making a bed with "hospital corners" that Granny learned as a candy-striper (not "stripper," ya morons!). Making columns on a manual typewriter (and I still type about 80 words a minute without mistakes!) Dialing a rotary phone Sewing a seam, replacing a button, and darning socks (although even the "wool" socks have polyester in them, which shred easily) I used to be able to run in high heels. I can tell you right now, you don't put your weight on the heel and roll forward on the ball of your foot like a low heel. You would die. Instead, you're almost stomping your foot and doing a quick rocking motion from heel to ball. I was an amateur compared to my great-aunt. As a teen, she wore narrow heels nicknamed "carpet punchers" in the 1920s. Even in her old age, she walked around in heels and crossed her legs in a very elegant way. Ties: Unless you are wearing an abomination like a wide knit tie, a full Windsor is the ONLY knot. Half-Windsor and four-in-hand knots look, and are, lopsided. The only time I wear a bow tie is with a tux, and, being a traditionalist, I tie it by hand... 4 or 5 times to get it right. Those pre-tied things look bad, and besides, at 1 in the morning, you can untie it and look as cool as Sammy Davis, Jr. At least in my own head. >> What I cannot recall is if there is a Year 0 BC or AD. Was it 1 BC then 1 AD?
In the standard AD/BC convention, there is no Year 0. This is problem for the math (leap year arithmetic, and converting to Julian dates and such). The standard astronomical date convention is thus to make the 1BC be the year zero, and use negative year numbers. Thus a BC year is - (BC - 1). The Julian vs Gregorian transition is also a bit of a mess. Standard there is to use the actual adoption of the Gregorian back in Oct 1582. Julian calendar dates before, Gregorian after, so there are 10 days that don't exist. That makes a bit of mess in the arithmetic. The transition period from when the Gregorian was first adopted until most all the countries were using it (looking at you, England!) is always going to be a mess. Great Britain didn't adopt the Gregorian (and didn't call it that, just the "New Style" calendar, because Catholic) until 1752. And then, it jumped 11 days. There was a lot of fussing about "stealing 11 days!". Before then, in the "Old Style", the new year didn't begin until Mar. 25th, "Lady Day". So they went to the Gregorian and then changed New Years day to the now standard Jan 1. Thus the year 1751 has only about 9 months. I hear there are some big trucks with automatic transmissions now. Where's the fun in that. Driving one you learn to slip/shift. The only time you need the clutch is to start or stop. Good thing too as the synchronizer was the first thing to fail in the trucks I drove, well second after the fuel gauge.

Many of the Founding Father's birth dates were affected by the "New Style" change. George Washington is the most famous (Ben Franklin affected as well). At the time he was born on Feb. 11, 1731. In the Gregorian, that's Feb. 21, 1732. If you born between Jan 1 and March 24, the year start change affected you. It was a matter of preference whether to proleptically change your birth date, or just keep the old one. There were a lot of complaints. I learned to drive in an old VW pickup, the one that was based on the bus. It had a throw on the stick shift like throwing the switches down at the rail-yard. I loved that thing. I have had a number of manual transmission vehicles and I do like them, even the ones with the worn out syncros that made me double-clutch.

Checking in for my quarterly quota quote.
Taught my sons how to tie a Double Windsor (which my dad taught me). When my older son got married, I was thrilled to see the two of them teaching groomsmen (younger son was best man) how to tie their toes. We have a tradition that I began when I got married. The morning of the wedding, I went to a local barber and got a straight razor shave. My older son had the three of us meet at the same barber shop to get one the morning before he got married. Younger son is engaged and hope he continues it. Posted by: ERF at July 01, 2025 11:45 PM (qqD/x) 305

Can I now be called a Dr. also like the pastor’s wife is called pastor? Did I learn everything he learned in medical school by osmosis? Just asking.
Posted by: Deborah Hamilton In my church the preacher explains that women are not to preach to men, but only to children and younger women, and cites 1 Timothy 2:8-15. He also believes the passages citing deaconesses are actually references to the wives of deacons, not deacons themselves. He explains that women are called by God to other duties that are complementary to the roles of men, and are not fulfillable by men. The issue of calling his wife “pastor” does not come up. It helps to have a good sense of humor, and requires you to be humble.
By contrast, commenting at Sarah Hoyt’s site, where I post under another alias, is like drinking from a garden hose: nostalgic, and a little warm. Told this story before, but back in New Jersey, I lived next to a single mom and her kid. One night I was heading out and the kid's staring at a flat tire on his car. He has a tire iron, and he's dejectedly tapping it against the flat. Mom's not around.
"You know how to change a tire, Ray?" "Nope" "Well, the tire iron is a good start, but pop the trunk and let's get the rest of the stuff out. You probably noticed the spare in there, grab that too, we'll need it." My understanding from Ray's mom was that dad was in prison and belonged there. Ray was a good kid, but pinning the quiet and awkward needles due to his age and circumstances. He'd be in his 30's by now, I reckon. Like to imagine him driving a tow truck. My Dad, Mom and the rest of the family were out of town visiting relatives. I broke down, pulled the tube and fixed that tire, and made it ready to go. Not to put too fine a point on it, but technically speaking gasoline prices are not higher in California. The gasoline Taxes in California are considerable.
Leftists bitching about gasoline prices is a perennial favorite. They always reserve their invective for the people who drill it out of the ground, refine it, transport it, and dispense it, and clear maybe Ten Cents a gallon, reserving their profitability by selling chips and soda. Not, of course, acknowledging in any way the Assclowns who add $1.75 in various shakedown schemes on top. Posted by: Common Tater at July 02, 2025 12:09 AM (AC6Bk) 355
To me, when it comes to the bacon chart, it depends on what the bacon will be used for, what preparation? Crispy crumbly for a baked potato or in an omlette. A little chewy if it's bacon strips on the side, a rasher. Just firm for a sandwich, not too chewy but not too crumbly, either, a snap but not a shatter. Partially cooked bacon strips get wrapped around shrimp or oysters and onto a grill. The bacon isn't totally crispy but who cares?
That's why we love bacon. It's the versatile food. Oh, yeah, and thick-cut. Posted by: RickZ at July 02, 2025 12:09 AM (gKDq2) 356

It is tempting to proleptically extend the Gregorian calendar indefinitely back in time. Some have advocated doing that for astronomical date purposes. It would eliminate the mess about Julian date conversions, no discrete jump to have to worry about. They didn't do this because, before Oct 15, 1582, nobody was using it, and no historical dates ever used it, so there would be a mess of error and confusion trying to do that. So, if you're tying some historical analysis (was the moon full on the date of some battle, and stuff like that), it would be a mess. That mess of confusion does exist always between 1582 and really, 1920, but maybe practically until the 19th century, no matter what you do. There have been a lot errors, think two events happened on the same date when they did not, or vice versa. And some errors have propagated, because they didn't retain the original date, but just erroneously converted it. Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (w6EFb) at July 02, 2025 12:22 AM (w6EFb) 377
Meanwhile, in Ukraine:
1. The Ukrainians conducted some more drone attacks deep inside Russia. Pretty obvious that they are sneaking into Russia and launching far from the air defense zones at the borders. Hopefully the US military is taking notes and working on defenses for US bases. 2. The Ukrainians also attacked using what might be a homegrown cruise missile. This would be a big deal if there was a safe spot in the country to make them. Expect a missile attack on the factory soon. 3. The Russians continue to advance at multiple locations, forcing the Ukrainians to dash about plugging gaps and struggling to get their people out of cauldrons. I've always wondered about the term "proleptic". I would say "retroactive" would be better for applying a calendar backwards in time. But the "pro", forward sense comes from thinking of a date in the past as "now", and thinking in terms of using a future calendar "now". Why they think that way, I don't know. But note in the astronomical convention they do proleptically/retroactively extend the Julian calendar indefinitely back in time. No one was using an such calendar before 45BC (year -44). But no one even thinks of dates in whatever mish-mash of local calendar systems used before then, so it's proleptic Julian all the way back to the when the earth cooled. Oh. Open question. I am in my family home. Now mine. I'm still sleeping in my childhood twin bed. A tv is here but there are two rooms with large beds. Quiznos was bought by a private equity firm that squeezed every last ounce of profit out of the franchisees. A major class action lawsuit by the franchisees ensued, but something like 90% of the stores were shuttered in the process.

Quiznos was awesome sammiches and shitty business.
"We are only allowed to use the best ingredients." A proud franchisee told me when I first went in one. I said "where do you get that?" Proudly... "From blah blah company." "Never heard of 'em. When did they corner the '"best ingredients" market?" *confused "what did that asshole just imply" look. I knew it was doomed from that point on. Probably 6 months later came the sporadic closures and decline in the menu. Then gone. They were a draw buisness for an ice cream shop next door too and that closed soon after. I miss both. I at one time toyed with the idea of becoming a franchisee of something and going it on my own. I think the best deal I came across was a Papa Murphys take and bake pizza shop. The initial investment was high but the long term prospects were good. There did pop up one about where I wanted to go and it's off the hook busy. Just reading about the history of the Julian calendar. The Roman priests initially made an error, an "off by one" error in calculating leap years. They added a leap day every 3 years instead of 4.
This was caught sometime after Augustus took over, and he ordered it fixed. There were 3 extra leap days added, and he ordered 12 years to have no leap days to let it catch up. Only problem is, historians aren't sure when this was actually done, but it was no later than 8 AD. So, they can't really be sure of any date before 8 AD using the proleptic Julian. Lurker challenge accepted. I’m going for the chaos gambit. If perchance, anyone actually looks at the following, I will probably be recommended for reversion back to strictly lurking status.
Ace is preposterously, laughably wrong about Oswald - demonstrably not stupid as he quickly picked up Russian and spoke it well enough to initially convince Marina that he was a native speaker. He supposedly committed the American crime of the century, but had no escape plan - couldn’t even drive a car. Before starting out on his great escape by hitching a ride on a bus, a cop found him coolly sipping a soda in the breakroom moments after the attack on the president. During a brief interview with reporters while in custody, the supposed passionate communist kook chose not to expound on the virtues of communism, but rather declared he was patsy. Oswald was shot by an imposter. Just look at the pictures - that’s just not the same guy. Also look at all the people in the room who were in on it and contemplate the ramifications. More lurker-generated chaos:
For heaven’s sake why has nobody called out Simone Biles for her obvious abuse of steroids? She has used so much that her face has been messed up. Compare her face with the faces of female bodybuilders. Steroid abuse might also explain with her flighty actions at the Olympic competitions and her simmering resentment towards the coaches. I read “All the President’s Men” just to find out what Nixon did that was so terrible. The big reveal? He used government money to fund the plumbers’ legal defense. Of course, supporting the plumbers’ legal defense was completely legal and certainly not something so egregious that the President of the United States must resign his office. I am working on the theory that Nixon resigned because he was blackmailed - perhaps because of some connections to the JFK assassination. Insurance. Sounds great, until you actually file a claim. My parents paid for nearly 40 years, average homeowner policy, and then had "smoke damage" (? I don't know all the specifics, but their house did NOT burn down) and whaddaya know?
Once the "contractor" (who was, evidently, in bed with the adjuster) sucked all the cash out of the job, parents were left with: a barely cleaned-up house & furnishings; valuables missing; shitty carpet that wasn't stretched properly; broken floor joists (from when contractor pried off fireplace brickwork in a huge piece, and refused to admit fault when it crashed down, lowering the floor by 2 inches)... I'll stop there. So, then insurance co. cancelled them & they scrambled to find a new carrier. JACKED RATES-- like they practically had to reimburse for what was paid out, regardless of the many thousands in premiums they had already paid over years and years. I haven’t seen any comments on the East LA accent that the vice-mayor of Cudahy was using when she was calling for the LA gangs to confront the ICE agents. I have lived in the LA area near Cudahy and am familiar with that accent, although it doesn’t sound like a Mexican accent or like that of Cheech Marin’s character. To my ear the accent sounded genuine but is overly emphasized as if she was trying to display her bona fides as a East LA resident that had mingled with cholas. The accent did not give off the vibe of a serious, 40-something politician, but rather that of a preteen girl trying to sound like a cutsie Hispanic East Angelina. Ketanji Brown-Jackson (or whatever her name is). I read some commenters quoting excerpts of her dissent - those in which she used “....wait for it….” and “full stop”. Final installment of lurker-generated chaos (ban me if you like, I'm just a lurker)
I found one of the KBJ quotes: “Simply stated, what it means to have a system of government that is bounded by law is that everyone is constrained by the law, no exceptions. And for that to actually happen, the courts must have the power to order everyone (including the Executive) to follow the law - full stop.” In standard English the word “it” should refer to something that the reader can identify, perhaps an action, a concept or an object. She should have used “bound” not “bounded” as flagged by my word processing program. I think “bounded” is used when writing about kangaroos. Sentences should not start with “And”. The overall sentence structure is not simple and elegant, Instead, the reader has to bear down a bit to get her meaning. Finally, she is arguing for something that pretty much everyone already agrees with. The issue is not whether the courts can order around the president. Rather, the issue is whether the courts can arbitrarily assign de facto class action status to a case before that court. Conclusion: midwit KBJ = SCOTUS. Me = bumbling lurker. Best darkly humorous comments from Greenfield:
You are an ally in the fight for equity, and you are Boston’s Harriet Tubman,” Councilman Brian Worrell (D), the first second generation Jamaican immigrant, claimed. “Thank you for your service.” History does not dwell on the time that Harriet Tubman got a kickback in the bathroom. Posted by: tcn in AK ------ The "it" in question, is the emptying and sale of our Dad's house. Youngest sibling has been guilt-tripping me to keep it, ever since Dad died, saying he 'needs more time' to get his own place so that he can get furniture & stuff that he wants out of there. Fast forward: here we are, years later, and he *still* hasn't a pot or a window. Right now, he and his kid and dog are staying there for "a visit" -- a vacation, you might say, because ain't shit getting moved out or sorted through-- he's simply fucking off for a week, hiding out from his bitchy wife, and not having to pay for a hotel. 1/? Aetna is the worst. They denied every claim at first, until I raised hell with them. Once you threaten them with legal action, they get after it, but you really have to mean it. They should have been put out of business years ago.
State Farm: I had insurance through then for over 30 years. My son, a miscreant, drove my car well over the limit through a stop light and got a hideous ticket for it. They called to cancel my car insurance. I told them to cancel the homeowners as well. Either you insure me or you do not. They still tried to charge me for homeowners and the camper. I told them to piss up a rope. Trying Allstate. We shall see. They all kind of suck. Posted by: tcn in AK at July 02, 2025 03:08 AM (1Gsou) 537

This winter and spring, when weather was cool, was when I planned to really get after it-- call for charity pick-up of furniture. Rent a dumpster. Hire movers for the furniture I want... etc etc. But NOOOO-- hubby blasted into dementia and I tried to care for him at home until I couldn't anymore-- then all the trips to hospital and getting him into nursing home & all the extra dr. appts. I'm ok. Just disappointed in myself, that I didn't push harder and sooner, to get this crap done. Thought I'd give little bro some time to get his shit together. (What's a Big Sister for, right?) But I guess bro has different priorities, which are at odds with what *must* be done. I like bacon between 2 and 3. Crispy and fatty. American bacon has become very popular in France and the U.K. but they cook it like 1 or even less. Traditional British bacon is like shoe leather scraps and their sausages have so much filler they squish. Every other European country does excellent sausage but don’t confuse andouille with andouillette. You’ll have an unpleasant surprise.
The French do wrap their filet mignon in either pork fat or beef fat and it really upgrades the experience. Posted by: Ann ExPat at July 02, 2025 04:34 AM (eZywV) 570
