Fourth of July Cafe

760B Washington Crossing the Delaware - Emanuel Leutze 1851- American Wing New York Metropolitan Museum of Art.jpg
Washington Crossing the Delaware (of course)
Emanuel Leutze, 1851

Dachshund pool party.

A baby and a dog are manning the lemonade stand.
She rescued a paralyzed dog from the shelter -- where it was about to be euthanized, because no one wanted to take a chance on it -- and then a miracle happened.

Orphaned baby ducks are put into a duck pond. How long will it take for another duck to adopt them?

Rescue dogs are very grateful.

Owl and parakeet become friends.

Funny Amazon review for a Medusa head.

Elephant asks for treats.

The important thing is that he tried.

Lion and tiger BATTLE over who gets to be the little spoon.

Olga Korbut's perfect (well, 9. parallel bars performance at the 1972 Olympics. The "dead loop" maneuver which was later banned for safety reasons is when she comes to a dead stop on the high bar and then stands on it.

A desperate intervention for JackStraw.

So now that I look at this more closely, this seems to be an Italian team, but just pretend that green is blue. Pavrati is singing Nessun Dorma, which is one of Trump's favorites. He plays it at all of his events. So this is almost a Fourth of July display.

I think you are missing my point. The T-38 never saw combat, its fighter derivative the F-5 did.

But after the gas guzzling F-4s which also had the nimbleness of an elephant, the 1970s saw the Thunderbirds transition to far more fuel efficient and nimble T-38 until the received F-16s.

Once the genie was out of the bottle the USA had no choice but to forge ahead with nuclear development and research. But there is per se nothing to stop anyone else from doing the same. As we have seen. The Soviets were never our allies, while we had a common enemy it was a fairy tale of epic stupidity wrapped in folly. If anything in some ways the international socialists made the national socialists look like amateurs. That’s what the fight was about, “Socialism in one country” was a big no-no. Choosing sides was idiotic. Nuke ‘em till they glow, and shoot the survivors. Woukd have saved much strife and grief around the world.

Larry Page used it quite often, and when people said "there was a gillion of them," would ask "But was there a google?"

When Google emerged as a company, I thought it a curious coincidence until I saw that Larry was a co-founder.

==================

That sucks, but glad you have at least a small space that is cool. About 5 years ago my A/C died (was blowing hot air) so I called and someone came out and diagnosed it as a leak in the evaporator coil. Said it was too old to find a replacement that would fit.

So I did without A/C until this year (which has sucked). I called five places to come out and give me a quote for a new system. The 4th guy that came was an old timer and he wasn't even interested in quoting. He started asking me what was wrong and troubleshooting. He couldn't find a leak in the coils and figured it was a slow leak through the valves on the outside unit. He pumped in refrigerant and put on better caps on the valves. Needed a new capacitor too. About a half hour and $130 later I got my A/C back.

I reckon my A/C is about 30ish years old.

257 I built a cat pen off the back of the house. With the coyotes in the hood the wife insists the cat stay indoors. He is less than happy. So I took some old scafolding and some wire fence and went to town. About 3/4 done. He'll have a multi layered outdoor area with about 200 square ft on the ground safe from those vermin.
Hope he likes it.
Happy Independence Day everyone.
If the winds don't die down here there won't be any fireworks.
A fire right now would be devastating. Very dry.
Probably won't stop the idiots here from doing their own shit tjough.

259 234 I think that’s an Osprey that the man threw a fish too. Not a lot of markings visible but the size is right, and they’re usually found around water.

Had a pair of them nesting behind my previous home (the original Casa Sin Problemas...le sigh..)

Anyway, they provided great entertainment, hovering over the open space, the gracefully descending on an unsuspecting lizard or ground squirrel. Even the red tail hawks recognized their badassery, and kept a respectable distance..

Well, it typed a "p" in "type", didn't it? I recommend an exorcism.

261 Lots of big booms in my hood tonight. I don't remember the 4th being this exuberant last year, but I may be wrong.

263 When I first started working at Republic, back in 1977, we were building 12 A-10s a month.

Hence the problem.

We, as a culture, have NEVER won a damn thing with "super weapons". That was the Hail Mary way the Germans tried to win.

We've won with shit like the 105mm ... and enough shells where we could time on target any time we wanted. The Sherman was an abomination that only Leslie McNair could keep alive ... but the rest of the gear was not "top notch" ... yet good enough and plenty of it.

We're going to lose the next one - just because we'll lose the F-35 or whatever else they want to throw out there. We'll run out of numbers. And those margins are stupidly small.

264 In the day while fishing with Pop and my Bros in Barnegat Bay seagulls would follow us on our return trip cutting bait . Rather than just throw used bait overboard we tossed it up to the birds. One 4th of July we mixed in lit fire crackers with the cut bait. Seagulls are smarter than pigeons..

Even for me that's pretty fucking cruel.
