Good morning, good people, from the Hotrondacks where sweltering humidity is the name of the game. The weather squeakers are surfacing, and the mewling about the heat is being heard. It is becoming increasingly likely that Intel joins Kodak, Sears, and Xerox in graveyard of once iconic American corporations that failed to adapt. Their years long failure to move on from 14nm set them on the path to where they are today. Missing out on 100% of the mobile CPUs limited Intel's growth opportunities. Apple going with ARM was a crushing loss for Intel as it got Qualcomm and Microsoft focused on moving on from Intel. The next 5 years are looking to be brutal for Intel.

"I am a big believer in the philosophy that the best leaders get the most done with the fewest people. We will embrace this mindset across the company, which will include empowering our top talent to make decisions and take greater ownership of key priorities." Funny story. The Logitech k740 keyboard with my current one been in use since 2019. As I recall, I use the same keyboard for a number of years before the current one. A few years ago Logitech discontinued it and I missed the opportunity to pick up one or maybe even two I'd close out. Since then if you want when you have to get a money damn they want hundreds of dollars for them. Not happening. Since then It's been a challenge to find something I would like when this current one keels over. I'm pretty organized so I have things boxed up in certain ways so they're easy to find and some of them I don't go into very often. Imagine my surprise when I opened up one the other day.looking for something completely unrelated. Imagine my surprise when I found a brand new K740 keyboard, still in the box, sitting there. Apparently I did buy one before they disappeared off the market and completely forgot about it. Dumb ass.

Ann odd dream this morning:
I was working at a university, much like my old job, and putting together a class list my department was offering for summer. Each semester had its unique three-digit code. I put down the code I knew. But when I traipsed over to the registrar's office, I found they had changed the official code system. If I left mine on the old setup, it would have blown up their program (apparently they did not have decent exception-handling). The woman at the office had the nerve to complain that the font on my printout was too small -- even though it did not matter, as I'd submit the data electronically once I fixed my entries. Then I woke up, and was glad not to have to deal with that in real life. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at June 26, 2025 05:14 AM (omVj0) 25

The NetBurst architecture of the P4 was a complete dead end. Their next generation of chips after wound up being based on the Pentium III. This was also around the same time that Intel hugely shit the 64-bit bed with Itanium. The entire world (including Intel) would adopt the rival x86_64 architecture created by their rival AMD. Last night we went to see A Lady Takes a Chance, a 1946 B & W rom-com with John Wayne and Jean Arthur. An unlikelier screen pair could hardly be imagined. It's set in 1938. Nearing-40 Jean takes a bus trip Out West, and meets-cute with a rodeo rider (the Duke, of course -- in fact his character is called that). Phil Silvers plays a tour conductor in his classic glad-handing fashion.
Jean really carries the pic. IMDb says she herself was 42 at the time, seven years older than JW. If that's what 42 can look like, more women should line up to get whatever Jean was using. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at June 26, 2025 05:27 AM (omVj0) 40

The summer temperatures here in Las Cruces have been normal so far. Basically 100° during the day. This week we have been getting monsoon rains where monsoon rains get translated into a quarter inch of rain a day. But hey the clouds are pretty. The real downside is the humidity is a killer. We have some and I'm dying. The real monsoon rains will come in mid-august and when they unload certain villages see homes get filled up with mud.
So for all you people that live with humidity, I stand in solidarity with you now. The struggle continues. Posted by: Alteria Pilgram - My President has convictions. at June 26, 2025 05:30 AM (NXz8h) 42

Posted by: FenelonSpoke at June 26, 2025 *** It was new to me too, Fen. It's a little slow in places despite having dialog from Jo Swerling, an experienced film and Broadway writer. There's another and better one where Wayne plays a romantic lead: Without Reservations, from about the same time, with Claudette Colbert. She plays a bestselling author whose novel is about to be made into a movie, and spots Wayne, a Marine coming back from WWII, as the perfect casting for her hero. He doesn't want to be an actor. So she decides to pursue him and convince him on a train trip heading West, with fun results. A much livelier movie all around. I watched The Train starring Burt Lancaster last night. It holds up perfectly. The black and white photography is spectacular both in terms of the technical dynamic range in the shots, but also in how they're blocked out. They draw heavily from classical composition and they're gorgeous to look at. This is very appropriate since the movie centers around trying to stop the Germans from stealing France's great art. Plus it smashes up some real trains which is the real reason this movie has an enduring appeal. Rating: double plus good smash ups.

Don't that one either and I really enjoy many old movies. I was in a production of a stage comedy - i can't recall the name now because of a lack of sleep about a travelling theatre troupe and the husband and wife spar verbally with each other and the wife mentions, It happened one night" . Posted by: Alteria Pilgram - My President has convictions. at June 26, 2025 05:43 AM (NXz8h) Agreed. I consider it the perfect action movie. One, has unique moral conflict, i.e., art as the impulsion toward sacrifice. Two, all action is practical, real-time, no simulations. Three, director Frankenheimer shot most of these scenes in long, contnuous shots, no cuts -- unheard of today. The penultimate sequence of Lancaster tracking the train, sliding down the hill, setting the explosive with train approaching -- all one shot, no cuts. Masterful. Likewise final scene, Scofield's elitist rage, Lancaster's brute stoicism. Posted by: Ordinary American at June 26, 2025 06:05 AM (wQOIH) Posted by: FenelonSpoke at June 26, 2025 06:08 AM (2GCMq) 61

What must be the molarity of said salty water, you may assume the salt in question is sodium chloride, for you to be able to derive Maxwell's Equations in this scenario? Need it be said?
