New York City Chooses the Form of Its Destructor and It's (Check Notes) a Socialist Ex-Rapper (!) Who Supports Global Jihad
Update: One of His "Raps" Praised Five Convicted Terrorist Funders of Hamas

In the city that was struck by Al Qaeda on 9/11, notes David Strom.

Yesterday I wrongly wrote that this was the election. It was a mental typo. This isn't the election, just the Democrat primary, but the winner of the Democrat primary almost always wins the election, unless the Democrat candidate is so terrible that a Republican like Guiliani or an "independent" billionaire like Bloomberg can win.

Are we at that stage? Or does New York City want to go the way of Chicago?

zohransagenda.jpg

His political director is a supporter of... Luigi Mangione. Of course.

Guys -- he's going to solve the Food Desert Crisis (TM) by building state-owned, state-operated nonprofit grocery stores.

So that should make up for the open support of terrorism and political assassinations.

Update: Mamdani the Rapper released a track praising five convicted funders of Hamas.

Adams, incumbent, is still running as an independent. The Republicans have a body in place.

Cuomo has apparently threatened to run as an independent (I guess NY has no sore loser law. I could look it up, but nah).

16 The fact that the Cuomo machine lost here really shows how much NYC has changed in the last 10 years.

Also, none of these people will be able to enact any of their agenda since the city is perpetually broke, and even more perpetually broke now with the "migrant crisis", as Eric Adams was kicked out of the D party for mentioning in public.

you know, i used to live in Portland. I went there last week for a dinner at the fanciest restaurant in town. The building its in is one of the tallest in the city, and considered prime real estate. That building was worth $100 Million, 5 years ago. Its today for sale at $32 Million and I bet you could get it for $20-25 cash offer. This is what happens when you let socialists ruin your city. The vibe in NYC is that nobody knows or cares who the mayor is. Rudy Giuliani is the last mayor anyone cared about -- or actually voted for -- and to a lesser extent Bloomberg. Since then, it's pure machine politics with radical leftwing shitburgers.

Mamdani is a radical nutjob, but he's no further left than Bill Soviet or, to a lesser extent, Adams. And some members of the cursed city council are worse.

I hope this opens the door for a Republican to sneak in a win, but I doubt it. The rich NYers don't care because it doesn't affect them. The poor sell their votes. Nothing changes.

Theoretically a decent amount. In practice -- hard to say. NYC may not be as corrupt as Chicago (debatable), but there are certainly deeply entrenched systems of power going back to the Tammany Hall days.

If he tries to cut the NYPD budget, for example, he'll have a big showdown with the police union. Who will prevail? I don't know. But DeBlasio certainly learned the hard way that he didn't have the power he thought he did during his term. Wasted a lot of money and said a lot of dumb shit, but ultimately wasn't able to enact most of the agenda he said he wanted to enact.

145 There is a museum in NYC just on the history of NYC. It's a great museum, but it's super lefty. They say that the people "took their city back," or something, to hand wave away how NYC went from gritty lawlessness to one of the safest large metropolitans in the world.

162 There are a couple nuances attached to this election. First, Cuomo was convinced he could use the NYC Mayor position to catapult himself into a serious Dem. candidate for president in 2028. This is why he won't slink away and will, most definitely, try the Independent route.

Mamdani has already stated that one of his ultimate goals is to increase the NYC corporate tax from about 7% up to about 12%. This will initiate an escalation to an already present Exodus.

Cuomo, Eric Adams (also likely to run as an independent) and Curtis Sliwa will split the vote to some extent. Additionally, while he should stay quiet, Trump is going to pontificate on Mamdani and solidify the "Orange Man Bad" Democrats. The result is not only a win for Mandami, but a major win.

Then the fun begins. I place a socialist Muslim NYC mayor up in the same category as "trans" muscular males beating the ever living hell out of female athletes as a form of distractive entertainment. How bad can it get? How stupid and self-serving will it be? Who's going to ironically take the punch(s) in the gut after assuring the election win? Oh, so much to enjoy. Posted by: polynikes at June 25, 2025 12:24 PM (VofaG)

a) I don't think that's what he's saying -- I think he's saying the only proof we'll have of people fleeing NYC are when rents stop going up (or begin to go down, like in early COVID.) That hasn't happened, although I'd argue that's largely driven by the ungodly number of immigrants who showed up here in the last 4-5 years.

b) I'm not a millionaire, and I live in Manhattan, as do many of my friends. And I don't live in the projects. Lots of normal people live in Manhattan. But yes, it is not exactly cheap, although the suburbs aren't much cheaper. You get more space for slightly less money in the burbs, but then you have to pay for LIRR or Metro North, and your commute can be significantly longer, especially if your office isnt near grand central or penn.

Correct. Plays a huge role in it.

And politics in NYC is very corrupt. I guarantee that many people were paid for the votes either in actual cash or in promises for grants to their "communities" or any other number of ways. And most of these people come from countries with no history of honest voting, if voting exists at all.

This is one of those times when reality really should follow the cheap irony of a Hollywood movie script, like-

Mamdani lets Luigi Mangione out of jail.

Then the next day, Mangione shoots Mamdani in the back and kills him.

Then NYC voters write in Mangione's name on the ballot and wind up electing him mayor.

Total registered voters in NYC: 5 million. 3.3 million are Democrats.

Total votes in yesterday's Democrat primary: just over 1 million.

So, roughly 1/3 turnout.

The 2021 primary had about 800,000 votes, as a point of comparison.

I don't think most people care or pay attention. The rich mostly don't live here full time anyways and they obviously have drivers to take them around, they don't use public transportation.

The poor (American citizens) think it's all fake and gay anyways and they just want to get whatever scraps they can get.

The immigrants are just trying to get some money in their own pocket from the government.

And the middle class / upper middle class are mostly liberal-leaning on paper, but they just roll their eyes at the corruption.

No one runs a real campaign on real ideas. Every ad is "I'm going to make your rent cheaper!" or "I'm going to stop e-bike delivery drivers from driving like maniacs!" or other completely empty promises.

Turnout rates in city elections are typically very low for those reasons.

Could Mamdani's resounding victory auger the Democratic Party becoming a true socialist party?

"Democratic socialism" misuses the term "socialism". It's "New Deal-ism." The New Deal is not and never was socialism. That's a RW characterization.

Cuomo is not the "litmus" test of anything. There are too many candidates in the race, and rank choice voting obscures everything. Rank choice voting is almost as bad as open primaries.

Cuomo was a dumbass candidate for the establishment to back. I begrudgingly ranked Cuomo rather than Mamdani mostly bc I think Mamdani has too many "pie in the sky" campaign promises that he can't possibly keep.

Mamdani is a great communicator. He did the grass roots thing really well. People are sick of the status quo. They like populist candidates with big personalities and promises to shake things up. (It's what's powering MAGA on the right.)

Although I was on a select bus from the upper west side to the upper east side recently, and the transit cops came on and verified that people had paid, so at least they're doing some enforcement in wealthy white neighborhoods (although I dont think they do any in other neighborhoods).

But even in that bus full of people who could definitely afford $2.90 for a bus ride, about 1/3 hadn't paid.

Thus the reason when he was asked "How would YOU solve the homeless problem?" his response was "Is Zyklon B still on the table?"

🧵🧵The Unelected President: Neera Tanden, the NGO Cartel, and the Greatest Conflict of Interest in Modern American Politics

On June 24, 2025, the mask finally slipped.

Testifying before Congress behind closed doors, Neera Tanden, a longtime Democratic operative and former president of the far-left think tank Center for American Progress (CAP) she admitted to running the autopen for President Joe Biden. She didn’t just witness the signature process. She oversaw it. In some cases, she was the one signing the President’s name to executive orders and laws.

This wasn’t a technicality. This was a transfer of power. Joe Biden was not acting as President. Neera Tanden was.

And that’s only half the scandal.

This city is run on 20 somethings with high paying jobs trying to keep their college partying lives doing, poor people doing service jobs, immigrants, and then people in their 30's and 40's who get kind of stuck in the city (or close by suburbs) with their careers.

I don't know that anything with get the poor people or immigrants to move, other than them becoming wealthier.

People in their 20's? Maybe out of control crime, but other than that, I don't think they care about much other than partying until 4 am then getting Ethiopian food delivered to their apartments or whatever.

People in their 30's and 40's? Most companies are pushing return to the office, so it's hard to move too far from the city.

366 NYC and Chicago have almost the exact same growth patterns over the past 4 years.

In fact, they seem to marry each other pretty closely from the the late 80s onward (Chicago saw real number decreases through the 70s that led to oversized increases in the early 80s).

Just an observation.

368 9/11/01 was a turning point in all of our lives. We were raising teen sons at the time, one a freshman in college. It was a turning point for everyone in this country. I suddenly paid attention to the Middle East barbarians. Granted, I did now and then our entire marriage of different attacks and horror from Iran. But this was on our soil, a declaration of war. Etched in our retinas in real time.

Then GWB referred to them as the "religion of peace," which I have never forgiven him for. Allowed open borders and here we are. He once announced he wanted no borders.

How on earth NYC could elect this taqiyya is mind blowing.

I hope? there is a strong, a very strong, GOP alternative for November.

No plans to visit NYC again since our last trip in 2010 or so. But what a great city she was in the early 2000's and many trips there with sons or my husband. I loved it and we always stayed in the Upper West Side, a boutique hotel that was one of the horrors during covid of housing illegals: The Lucerne. Near Zabar's and the Met Museum. Great restaurants, one Italian across the street. At the time Ouest was a quick walk away and served a fantastic martini. Great memories.

Unreal and sad.

If it wasn't so heartbreaking, it would be fun to watch. Fun isn't the right word; there's nothing funny about it, but it will be fascinating to see how, even after being given everything they want, they will still blame everyone else for their failure to thrive.

Guys -- he's going to solve the Food Desert Crisis (TM) by building state-owned, state-operated nonprofit grocery stores.

Standing in line at GUM to find out what they are selling today is making a comeback. 2 hours in line to find out that the line was for non-ration card chargeable turnips.

On the other hand, you can have fun by walking up to a random door on the street and standing in line in the morning. People will jump to get behind you on the off chance that they'll be able to buy something worth keeping. Then after you get about 20 people standing behind you, look at your watch and walk away. Come back later in the afternoon and the line will have grown to about 75 people.

Having been listening to lawyers discuss this on Court TV and the consensus seems to be that the Prosecution overcharged him with RICO. All of the evidence so far doesn't point to RICO and so, unbelievably, he may walk depending on whether the jury has lesser charges to convict him on.

463 Some personal experience:

Rent, Stores, Loans
I live in Co-Op City in the Bronx. It was built under a specific state law providing loans for middle income housing. From the start, it was overtly socialist. Refusing to raise the rent/carrying charges was a major element of directors staying in power. It is the only project under that program that has not paid off its loans.
When it opened, it had corporate owned grocery stores, and even our own generic brand. They did not last 10 years.

Free Buses
Buses are already effectively free in NYC. No driver will stop someone from boarding and sitting for failure to pay a fare. Perversely, making buses officially free might save money on maintenance for the fare boxes.

Minimum Wage
Fast food places are already automating.

General Stuff

Childcare and Newborns
For what children?

Insurance
He expects the NYC unions to trade in for Medicaid. This is the one I would place my hopes on breaking him over.

465 One thing i keep seeing people say is "there should be a law that when NYers flee they can't vote in their new state, because they'll just ruin that state too"

And while i agree, it should be implemented the other way around too.

This guy's votes came mostly from kids from outsider NY who moved there for school or to pursue a Broadway career, and then vote their shitty ideals. The rest of his votes were from rich white kids who are angry at mommy and daddy for only buying them a 1,500 sqft condo instead of a 2,500 sqft, and the few old white ladies who came to nyc in the 60s.

Any local voted for Cuomo.

This guy benefits from low turnout in mayoral elections because these radical brats do vote in nyc. If they actually get people to vote, like they do for president, then Adams will probably win again, though they will probably need Sliwa to drop out so Adams gets those 350k votes.
