Elephants on Parade Cafe

elephantssleeping.jpg

Baby elephant having a bath with his bath toys.

Too cute.

I just linked this, but this friendly baby elephant is worth a repost. This baby elephant is even more rambunctious.

Cat fight #1. Cat fight #2. Who was the most impressive?

Puppy thinks she's a cowboy.

Tree pavilion.

This kitten is learning to pounce and this dog has agreed to help train her.

Cats being absolute ninjas. Note that about two thirds of the way through a cat attempts to climb the exterior wall of a tall building and falls. But he does just get off the ground and run away. Can't have been pleasant, though. Soon after, a cat jumps from a building into a bucket of water on the ground. Crazy.

All aboard the Dog Bus. Except for Kevin.

I don't know if these guys are workers or intruders, but no one informed the cane corso on guard duty.

I think I linked this before, but it's good: Two dogs got to know each other over FaceTime, and then finally had an IRL Moron Meet-Up.

Remember the creepy and trippy part of, what was it, Dumbo maybe, where someone gets drunk and hallucinates a bunch of dancing pink and purple elephants?

Here's the real thing:

When elephants decide you're part of the herd:

17 Elephants are awesome. Smart beasts. Aren't good for hauling (they can't carry much more than a mule, and eat a lot more and are more fragile), but they make *incredible* work gangs. Elephants can build bridges for you. The British Army in SE Asia used them extensively during General Slim's campaign through Burma and Malaya during WWII, primarily as bridge-builders. The elephants assemble the bridge, the trucks roll through. Absolutely incredible.

I once saw a video of an elephant work gang in, I think, Indonesia. They were chained up on break and a worker was teasing one of them with a candy bar, holding it out then snatching it back. Elephant slowly backed up, luring him to within range of the chain, then whipped his ass across the lot with its trunk. Just deserts.

Elephants kick ass. They also have death rituals. Fascinating animals.

Yup. Like all mammals, they love sugar and like some mammals, they love booze.

On a prior note, one of General Slim's elephants broke out of its pen, ran down to a pineapple grove, and gorged itself on so much pineapple that it collapsed. The vet with them had to cut it open to clear out its guts of something like 90+ pineapples.

A testament to how valuable elephants are. They'd have shot a horse and moved on. The elephant got elaborate surgery.

30 T-Rex skulls found are non-bilaterally symmetrical, which is not explained except by saying "maybe taphonomy"
Other extant bird species that have non-bilaterally symmetrical skulls are like owls, who use their hearing to pin-point prey.

I've only been to a game park in South Africa a couple of times but those are some of my best memories. My former SA customer told me he went on a drive in Kenya with some friends and a bull came out of the brush and hit their vehicle broadside and flipped it. One woman ended up with a broken leg and others assorted bumps and bruises.

And yea, I have some great photos including one of a small herd of elephants guarding their baby as we passed by.

53 Ace - RE: the drunk elephants. There is a drink called Amarula, made from the Amarula fruit in South Africa. It's a cream drink - think like Bailey's. On the label is an elephant because after people saw drunk elephants they figured "Hey, what is that shit?" It used to only be available in South America but I think they export it everywhere now. Look for it in the cordials/liquer section of your local store. Serve it over ice.

90 There's a story on GP about a Reverand Aaron Miller out of Connecticut. Project Veritas taped him bragging about how he could help a 12 year old transition without parents knowing. This is a REVERAND at a mainstream denomination. Excerpt below:

Over several months, a Project Veritas journalist and an actor posing as a 12-year-old experiencing gender dysphoria engaged in virtual and in-person meetings with Miller and Ferraiolo to probe how far these transgender activists would go to guide minors toward gender transitions without parental knowledge or consent.

Exclusive video footage shows Miller and Ferraiolo inviting “Justin,” a 12-year-old female, to secret youth groups led by Ferraiolo in Middletown and New Haven, Connecticut, despite knowing her parents oppose the transition. Miller assures secrecy, stating, “…they’ll never know.”

118 But the second week of the war could be even worse. Iran isn’t Iraq or Libya, or even North Korea. While it’s often described as a rogue state, Iran has powerful allies. It’s now part of a global bloc called BRICS, which represents the majority of the world’s landmass, population, economy and military power. Iran has extensive military ties with Russia. It sells the overwhelming majority of its oil exports to China. Iran isn’t alone. An attack on Iran could very easily become a world war. We’d lose.

None of these are far fetched predictions.

I was at our local zoo once looking at the elephants there, including one large older male. There’s a good setup where the only physical barrier between the humans on the viewing platform and the elephants was a steep sided ditch/moat, about 9’ deep and 20’ across. So there were 3 people of an African persuasion, and they were being very loud and laughing loud and even I thought they were extremely annoying, and they kept pointing at this elephant and making noise while the elephant just stared at them while it kind of dug around in that ditch with the tip of its trunk. Suddenly he lifted it up and blasted all 3 of them with a big spray of mud and water! They started screaming and yelling even more, and I swear I could see that elephant laughing.

You can feed her food made for indoor cats that is lower in calories or food for kitties that are a little rounder than they should be, if that is her problem.

It does sound like "People of the Book" however, and Muslims never thought much of the cross. Jesus didn't die on it, they say. The cross is for criminals.

IT was called East Plano Islamic Center (EPIC ) but I think the owners who planned to sell it off found out and stopped the sale. The islamic group found some other location and still use the EPIC name for 'planning'. It's still a scam plan thing so far.

Snowflake was awol for several weeks and lost a bit of weight iirc.

She may be food Insecure, or needs to put on another pound or so. Please keep her inside, for the time being if you can. Brush out her coat. Tell her she is safe and loved. Kitties understand.

It’s sweet you fret about her so.

Hi nurse!

I'm worried because Snowflake has put on over a pound, maybe close to 2 pounds, in less than 2 weeks.

She has only been out twice. Not long. I FINALLY SOLD INDOORS TO THESE...well one of these friends always welcomed here.

She has a lot of toys. But those early morning sessions...lol

Speaking of scams, I ran into nasty one today. I dialed the number for my bank's investment dealership, where I keep my retirement plan. But I misdialed the number (transposed 2 digits). Auto operator picks up, identifies itself as my bank, and immediately goes into a spiel: "if you are over 50, press "1" for a special promotion, if not, press "2"" That sort of shit annoys the fuck out of me, so I pressed "0" to try to get by it. Line goes dead. Tried again, same result. The next time I tried, I got an intercept that said "XYZ's toll-free number has changed. Press "1" to get the new number from Directory Assistance for a small charge of $3.89"

one of two posts!

283 So I dialed what I thought was the right number once more, and got the same spiel about Directory Assistance. Well, I knew that wasn't kosher, so I tried calling Customer Service at my cell provider, thinking some scammer had found a way to intercept calls. Interminable wait. Go online to cell provider. Get a big song and dance to prove my identity. They opened a ticket on it. Not happy.

Go online to my bank's website, get in chat with a security rep. Explain what happened. "What number did you dial?" I gave it to him. "There's your problem. You transposed two digits, and got a scammer site. We know about them, and try to shut them down, but when one gets closed, another pops up. Did you give them any ID or log-in passwords?" Me: "No, was just going to ask some questions." "OK, you are safe, and we have taken note of this breach. Would you like me to put you through to an investment agent directly?" "Sure, thank you!"

When they came here in winter, they were outdoor cats so food flowed freely but both cats were happy to be in around 11pm.

Even outside several hours a day, a very cold winter and their exercise, both cats put on about 50% of their weight.

I get the feeling cat food and behavior may soon be a hobby for a while.

Oh, btw, just send good thoughts my way. EVERYONE is confident.
