Top Story
- 80% of patients in a recent study were cured within six months - of Type 1 diabetes. (Hartford Courant) (archive site)
The subjects of the study were the subset of diabetes patients who have hypoglycemic unawareness - that is, they also lack the usual warning signs that their glucose levels are dangerously low.
That was not specific for the treatment, but made the treatment more necessary.
Because there is a big downside. The treatment involves using stem cells to recreate the missing pancreatic islet cells that generate insulin, but leave the patient needing lifetime immunosuppressant treatment - which is probably not an improvement over diabetes for most patients who don't also have hypoglycemic unawareness.
But still, it works. It's an option, and if the immune issue can be resolved, it's a cure.

After the funeral Friday, I went to work so Girl F. and Son in law drove Mrs. F. and Boy F. back to the city.
On the way, Girl F. gets a text from her cousin that they want Girl F. to be with them at the burial. So they detour to the cemetery and help with the burial.

The problem there is that Type I Diabetes is genetic. The problem at my place is that they have stuffed the ranks with a lot of 30 YO senior project engineer/principle engineers DEIs and can't offer anyone new a decent salary let alone the lower ranked people who actually perform.
It used to be you need 15-20 years in-grade and had to be good in order to get to that level.
Plus all the capable people are looking elsewhere because there is no upward mobility as a result.
There's a giant plug of useless, shiny new, upper-level engineers that have immobilized things.
So management decides to go after the people that are easiest to get rid of.

I don't know if he said "very" few, but their stock is pretty depleted. They were launching multiple times as many missiles in the first couple of days vs recent days. I don't know how many were fired over the last 24 hours. Maybe not too many.
With the nuclear sites gone, I would think the missiles and missile launch sites would be getting a higher priority now.

He’s become a major hardliner in Russia over the past several years but he has no real power other than what Putin gives him.

I didn't know the nuclear weapon community agreed upon universal interface, mounting, deployment, and maintenance standards.
Delivery gets interesting. When figuring out who to retaliate against and your nation's radiation signature shows up at ground zero do you think the receiving country is going to just shrug their shoulders?

I think it's a given, because of Iran's Islamic and Middle East culture being all honor and revenge oriented,
that they'll try some form of revenger the bombing. Probably, something on the order of the bombing attack on the night club in Germany years ago.
It's stupid because Trump's already warned them that there are plenty of targets still in Iran.
Also, I believe this is the reason he's stopped the Israelis from taking out the Ayatollah and his son. If Ian wants to keep playing this game, well, that chip just went on the table.
So, we'll see if they're smart or just have to get all revengey and shake their little islamic fists and wind up hurting themselves.
