Syria's Jolani is a professional Jihad terrorist. Syria needs to heal and return to normalcy. After that, the Islam will arise again there. It's just a question of time.

Think of how Trump 1 hoped to tame Kim Jong Un. Un took advantage of it for as long as it lasted. It was never real.

86 Oh, that's right -- it's the Juneteenth holiday. Bank's closed and some other businesses. I got my Eddie Bauer shoulder briefcase back from the shop, and they did a fine job, but I've spotted a new point that needs to be repaired -- not small, as when you carry it by the handle instead of using the strap, whatever load you put in the bag will stress this point. I dunno if they'll be open today. I can call.

Now I understand why Tucker Carlson has been spamming his page with little snippets of his interview with Ted Cruz since yesterday.

I watched the full interview. Ted Cruz absolutely demolished Tucker. In every possible way.

Tucker, like the disingenuous hack that he is, sent out these selectively edited clips in a failed attempt to preemptively establish a narrative.

It didn't work.

It's that slimy yellowish stuff you get all over your fingers when trying to get the tiny flake of edible meat out of the boiled crawfish carcass. If it sounds unappetizing, it's because it is. I hate the very idea of eating outdoors in this climate, and of getting your hands filthy doing it. It's like doing an oil change while eating. Personally I think crawfish boils are merely a socially-sanctioned way for adults to play with their food.

My cultural heritage includes a table, silverware, and indoor air conditioning.

94 There's a little rubrik (not the right word, whatever) that I use to keep heads and tails on the right sides of the coin in this whole mess.

Israel clearly has said they don't want to mess with anyone else, and have clearly demonstrated their overwhelming ability to mess with anyone else, meaning they are sincere.

Iran has clearly said that they want to mess with everyone else, and have clearly demonstrated for decades their annoying ability to use proxies to mess with everyone else, meaning they are sincere.

It's also clearly been demonstrated that in terms of a straight up shooting match, Iran is a gaggle of ignorant, unprepared fools who have always cared more about terrorism than warfare and national defense.

Most other things getting bellyached about just wind up being noise and distractions.

Second WRT the flight of 747s between China and LuxembourgIran. It would not surprise me one bit to find out China is assisting the Iranians by providing missiles and other weapons. Iran is Chinas almost sole source provider for oil.

The second to sixth blocks of Bourbon are already closed to vehicles in the afternoon and evening, I think. Probably what they are touting is closing it to cars and trucks 24/7. Which would play hell with deliveries to the bars and other businesses there.

Royal Street, one block toward the river, is already pedestrian only, but the antique stores and other businesses along there are doing all right. I guess they allow delivery vehicles in and out at certain hours.

China's oil refining capacity is about 15M/day. By comparison, the US capacity is about 18M/day. However, China's refineries are old and badly in need of repairs and modernization and their straining under current consumption rates. I don't think Iran refines a significant amount of their oil (I think the manage about 3-4M/day) and it's heavily laden with sulfur.

153 China's oil refining capacity is about 15M/day. By comparison, the US capacity is about 18M/day. However, China's refineries are old and badly in need of repairs and modernization and their straining under current consumption rates.

Pretty sure the same is true for the US refineries. Is it not the case that we're neither building new refineries - because of government and activist (BIRM) obstacles nor are we upgrading them because of asinine government rules that require you to upgrade everything if you upgrade anything?

155 Stray thought:

Maybe the plan is to get the conversation to be all about Fordow and can they/can't they, giving narrative distraction from the systematic dismantling of everything else around it the old fashioned way.

If the regime collapses, then Fordow is just an expensive hole in the ground without so much as dropping a firecracker on it.

It's a strategic end-run, basically.

I had a pleasant moment yesterday that harkened back to better days. Three youngsters were running a roadside lemonade stand in the 90 degree heat. Had a homemade sign, the cooler of ice, the pitcher, the whole shebang.

Of course I stopped and bought a cup, along with three other folks, all of whom made genuine displays of being thankful for the kids' pluck and drive. It was charming and heartwarming at the same time.

It’s the one where he asks Cruz what the population of Iran is.

Tucker doing his little girl giggle after “You don’t know anything about a country you want to bomb?” (paraphrasing) made him look really silly.

He used to pull that giggle out on his Fox show on some lefty saying something stupid.

It didn’t work as well on Cruz with a topic this serious, and made Tucker look like a pedantic little twerp,

Everybody who’s kept up with the news on Iran for 45 years knows why.

Playing obtuse and pretending you are dumb about the situation because you want to feign “keeping up” with all the lies about about why Iran is dangerous is a snarky, leftist, journalist move which Tucker used to be against.

I'm sorry, but this is like watching @tedcruz get interviewed by @amiKozak - the comedian who imitates @TuckerCarlson. Senator Cruz makes the point that all nations spy on one another, that this is a simple fact of life, and Tucker behaves as if he just woke up like an innocent fairy sleeping on the petals of a blooming rose. "I don't understand why we can't just use our magic to make reality something else?" But only in Israel for some reason. Listen, decisions about war and peace are hard. Alliances aren't friendships. We owe no one anything except when it's in our own strategic interest. But it's disturbing that silliness like this is taken for serious discussion. It's like watching Margaret Brennan, only on the right.

228 Morning, Horde...How goes it?

In tech news, I switched ISPs yesterday. The new fiberoptic service provides the same service I have now (actually BETTER service in terms of upload) for $20/month cheaper.

Free installation and first month free.

Tucker Carlson when someone says the sky is blue: “What does blue mean? Which sky? What if I’m blind? Is it true at night? I like the sky; am I blue?”
Tucker Carlson when someone says Churchill was to blame for WWII or Russia is a free country: “That’s really interesting.”
