Blue Collar Wages Rise 2% In Just the First Five Months of Trump's Second Term, the Most in 60 Years

Nice:

Blue-collar workers have seen real wage growth of almost two percent in the first five months of President Donald Trump's second term, the largest increase for any administration in nearly 60 years.

The 1.7% pay bump is in stark contrast to negative growth under Joe Biden, according to new data from the US Department of the Treasury.

Since Richard Nixon in 1969, Trump has been the only president to record positive growth for blue-collar workers in his first five months. He also achieved 1.3% in his first term.

Every week, Post columnist Miranda Devine sits down for exclusive and candid conversations with the most influential disruptors in Washington. Subscribe here!

The recovery from a 1.7% decline recorded in Biden's first five months, as inflation outpaced earnings, suggests a shift in economic conditions for this financially stressed segment of the workforce.

"The only other time it's been this high was... during President Trump's first term," Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told me on the latest episode of the "Pod Force One" podcast, out Wednesday.

"We've seen real wages for hourly workers, non-supervisory workers, rise almost 2% in the first five months. ... No president has done that before."

Falling inflation has driven the significant improvement in blue-collar wages, lifting workers' take-home pay and living standards.

Bessent says wage growth is also fueled by the president's "emphasis on manufacturing" and commitment to remove illegal migrants from the workforce.

"Biden opened the border, and it was flooded," said Bessent. "And for working Americans, that's a disaster because it's pressure on their wages."

Per a Harvard-Harris poll from June 11-12, the country now believes the economy is "strong," 52% to 43%.

As soon as Trump took office, the percentage of voters saying the country was on the right track shot up from 26% to 42%. (It has now dropped to 41%, which is probably just statistical noise.)

50 And another part of Trump starting to reduce the number of illegals - the vast majority of them are on welfare.

So sending them home doesn't just increase working class wages, it also reduces welfare expenditures at all levels of government, which in turn reduces inflation - the BidenBux spent on getting illegals (literally) fat and happy are printed at the federal level, and robbing states and local government the ability to spend money on anything else.

There was a significant recession for the first time since Carter that lasted over a year, exacerbated by the First Gulf War. Manufacturing jobs went south, inflation and unemployment rose, leading to falling "real" wages. Our first mortgage back then was a fixed rate of around 10.5%.

Agreed. Well I can be generous and say maybe that wasnt the primary objective but it was an acceptable outcome of pushing deep state foreign policy by using our market as a carrot to get foreign governments to do what our deep state wanted. Which of course mostly involves money and power for the people in the deep state.

This is based on the 50/30/20 budgeting rule, which allocates 50% of income to necessities, 30% to discretionary spending, and 20% to savings or debt. For a family of four, the required income is significantly higher, around $220,563.20.

This country does not have an employment problem. It has a wage problem.

YES. It's a cause of maga angst & of voters drifting away from Democrats who do not address it much. Wealth and income disparity is a major cause of societal problems in the US and is historically unsustainable. Democrats have a golden opportunity to make inroads by addressing it and dealing with it, so that it gets ameliorated peacefully.

Jobs stable, but turnover is down and fed layoffs are delayed due to "deferred resignations" hitting in Sept. Job openings are down, but job exits are down. People aren't leaving jobs to look for better ones.

Housing starts and permits are down some. Single family homes are a bit glutted, but apartments are harder to find.

The economy has been surprisingly resilient, even to economists, but seems to be fraying a bit now.

I particularly like the disdain for weak people claiming to want to end nuclear proliferation but refusing, when push comes to shove, to fight for that belief:
================
Their fundamental belief is, We’ve got to stop a war. And it’s ironic that it’s people who in many cases advocate for the abolition of nuclear weapons—but when push comes to shove, when there’s really a challenge and an opportunity to end nuclear weapons, they fold and go, Oh, we don’t want a war. And so in that sense, they’re not very credible.

The dissent is a mix of legal gobbledygook and Kamala Harris worthy AWFL platitudes.

"Sotomayor read her dissent from the bench.

The court, Sotomayor wrote, "obfuscates a sex classification that is plain on the face of this statute, all to avoid the mere possibility that a different court could strike down SB1, or categorical healthcare bans like it."

Joined in her dissent by Kagan and Jackson, she continued: "The court's willingness to do so here does irrevocable damage to the Equal Protection Clause and invites legislatures to engage in discrimination by hiding blatant sex classifications in plain sight. It also authorizes, without second thought, untold harm to transgender children and the parents and families who love them."

Well, here's what the lower-court judge had said:

U.S. District Judge Eli Richardson put the ban on hold. He concluded that the treatments at the center of the dispute are “safe, effective, and comparable in both risk profile and efficacy to many other forms of pediatric medicine that Tennessee permits.”

297 Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., unintentionally explained why pro-lifers should support President Donald Trump’s “big, beautiful” budget bill. “Under the Republican bill, 200 Planned Parenthood centers would close,” Schumer, the Senate’s top Democrat, said at a pro-abortion press conference on Tuesday. “More than 90% of these closures would be in states where abortion is legal for the voters of the state.”

And MOABs are not for busting bunkers. They don't have sufficient armor for serious penetration.

441 The smaller bunker-busters that the IDF can deliver might still be enough to do the job, depending on how they are deployed. As an example, instead of hammering the same spot, what would be the effect of doing a circle of craters centered over the site? I don't know the engineering but I suspect that alternative methods can work.

Like the Limey dambusters hitting the Ruhr dams. The bombs didn't do the major damage, the weight of water exerting pressure against the bomb-induced weak point was the deciding factor, by design.

iran has no precision rockts, what did you think was going to happen?

Of course they do. Iranian rockets ALWAYS hit the ground.

443 Didn't we use a MOAB over Tora Bora to suck all the oxygen out of the cave system? Would it have the same effect here, even if reduced, if the tunnel and vent openings could be opened up through preparatory bombing?

444 Yeah, but on Star Trek her character was wise and always right and seemed to understand people's problems and she starred in "Sister Act" as a nun and is a black lady so you really should listen to what she has to say.

Depend if the place is hardened against it. If you stopped the vents when detecting high temps for pressures the oxygen would still be there. Of course, the ways in might be destroyed.

447 I'm not well versed on military capabilities. Coulld one of you keyboard warriors help me out with this question? How many bunkers would a bunker buster bust if a bunker buster could bust bunkers?

If it wanted to, it would!

448 I would like to see some ignorant dick without math become a master machinist. Machine work is all math and also much additional knowledge. And programming a CNC machine would be well beyond the capability of lame brain leftards.

Look, if you have dirt on your clothes and do something useful in a day, it isn't real math. Elites know this, but nothing about being a machinist.

449 The dissenting geniuses say 1) you can't discriminate against adolescents and 2) you can't tell men they can't take female hormones and vice versa because it's discrimination on the basis of sex.

I think adolescents ought to rise up and demand the right to eat unlimited ice cream and attend school for 3 minutes a day.

Saying we can't discriminate against adolescents is nonsense. We do it all the time and for good reason.
Drinking laws? Requiring a guardian? Driving age laws?

You should be expelled from the courts for bald faced lying on a judgement.

The wisest and kindest sole ruler has the problems of gaining knowledge of what to do and making the underlings actually do what he or she orders.
