Blue Collar Wages Rise 2% In Just the First Five Months of Trump's Second Term, the Most in 60 Years
Per a Harvard-Harris poll from June 11-12, the country now believes the economy is "strong," 52% to 43%. As soon as Trump took office, the percentage of voters saying the country was on the right track shot up from 26% to 42%. (It has now dropped to 41%, which is probably just statistical noise.) Blue-collar workers have seen real wage growth of almost two percent in the first five months of President Donald Trump's second term, the largest increase for any administration in nearly 60 years. The 1.7% pay bump is in stark contrast to negative growth under Joe Biden, according to new data from the US Department of the Treasury. Since Richard Nixon in 1969, Trump has been the only president to record positive growth for blue-collar workers in his first five months. He also achieved 1.3% in his first term. "We've seen real wages for hourly workers, non-supervisory workers, rise almost 2% in the first five months. ... No president has done that before." Falling inflation has driven the significant improvement in blue-collar wages, lifting workers' take-home pay and living standards. Bessent says wage growth is also fueled by the president's "emphasis on manufacturing" and commitment to remove illegal migrants from the workforce. The Daily Mail ran an article about these kids at a Catholic high school in Pittsburgh. The school offered a welding program and towards the end of their training, they had job offers up to 70K. A few offers were at a nuke plant.
Naturally in the comments came "But that's not a living waaaaage!" Liberals believe that the world is static and eternally unchanging. It never occurs to them that those kids will earn more as they progress. And 18 years old with 70K? You can live off that rather well.

There was a significant recession for the first time since Carter that lasted over a year, exacerbated by the First Gulf War. Manufacturing jobs went south, inflation and unemployment rose, leading to falling "real" wages. Our first mortgage back then was a fixed rate of around 10.5%.
Then Bush really slit his own throat when he raised taxes after promising not to do so.

Well I can be generous and say maybe that wasnt the primary objective but it was an acceptable outcome of pushing deep state foreign policy by using our market as a carrot to get foreign governments to do what our deep state wanted. This country does not have an employment problem. It has a wage problem.
YES. It's a cause of maga angst & of voters drifting away from Democrats who do not address it much. Wealth and income disparity is a major cause of societal problems in the US and is historically unsustainable. Democrats have a golden opportunity to make inroads by addressing it and dealing with it, so that it gets ameliorated peacefully.
Jobs stable, but turnover is down and fed layoffs are delayed due to "deferred resignations" hitting in Sept. Job openings are down, but job exits are down. People aren't leaving jobs to look for better ones.
Housing starts and permits are down some. Single family homes are a bit glutted, but apartments are harder to find.
The economy has been surprisingly resilient, even to economists, but seems to be fraying a bit now.

Just Google the average wages in NYC for every job you mentioned. Youll find that for example the average welder of all ages makes about $53k in NYC. Sanitation workers are a bit lower. Office cleaners usually make the minimum wage of $16 an hour etc.

I don't think it's that. People are realizing skilled trades pay quite well, well enough to raise a family and have a nice life. And the BS about "everyone needs to go to college" is finally being exposed for the lie it actually is.

True trade schools are generally short and focus just on the trade. That's by design. They want to keep costs low and get the kid into the workforce asap. Especially with union jobs, seniority is very important. Getting into the workforce at 19 is an advantage over getting in at 21.

Anyone’s that’s taken basic biology knows that changing genders is cosmetic at best, malpractice otherwise. I’d blame social contagion but how many people can be autistic. None of it makes sense to me. There’re too many really critically important issues to address and we’re leaning into mental illness. Civilization is in trouble and we seem to be glamorizing being on the spectrum as if it’s a worthwhile goal.

The HS my chirruns graduated from has a culinary arts graduation track. They have a full industrial kitchen classroom and, IIRC, did placement at local restaurants for practical experience.

I'm talking about a HS Trade school where the core classes are elected trades . The school would have some electives in addition . Also sports and other normal HS activities.

Civics and literature/grammar are two year courses, chemistry is one year, biology is one year, history is two year, math, algebra, geometry, can all be completed in four years of 1/2 day courses leaving the other have day for a trade. Reading comprehension and math will also be incorporated into the trade classes.
